Nissenberg’s textbook thoroughly explains Spanish grammar well enough to instill good habits via rote memorization and study. The major concern is that it does so little to immerse the student into the Spanish language. Regardless of the fact that there is audio access for the exercises, these exercises and any accompanying examples are only ever one sentence in length, almost always existing outside of any context. We see structure, but only ever in the framing of one sentence, perhaps two, though neither ever challenges the reader much. It’s a fine textbook, but it fails to build much literacy in its not presenting stories, paragraphs, etc. in Spanish to the reader. I would recommend it, certainly more than Madrigal's middling book, but it is limited.
