Emmy Oak is excited to cater a housewarming event for a client and friend from her time as a caterer in Los Angeles. Carrie Cross, an actress from a soap opera, has bought a new vacation home in Wine Country and hires Emmy to furnish food and wine from her family's winery, Oak Valley Vineyards. It goes well with lots of stars and associates in attendance until Emmy finds the body of a recently dismissed star from the show in the corral with Carrie's wild horse. When Detective Grant, Emmy's special friend, tells her it is a murder, not an accident, Emmy and her best friend Ava investigate to find the killer. Carrie's husband Bert looks suspicious but they also discover that Harper, the dead woman, had lots of people who might have had it in for her, both friends and family.
This is such a fun series to read with likable and realistic recurring characters with Ava, Christopher Grant, staff of the winery, and David, friend and bad boy. Oak Valley Winery is a setting that sounds like a great place to live and/or visit. There is always a great murder mystery to solve, using taking place at a catering event.

All Emmy wants to do is keep the family winery afloat but a murder at a client/friend's home has her looking for a murderer. There are plenty of obvious suspects with reasons to commit the crime but she is worried that the friend's husband has the best motive.
You can't help but want Emmy to succeed in business. She works so hard at finding new ways to bring in business but something always gets in the way. She is a likable, fun character and mix that with a hot detective makes for great romantic tension. This is the fifth book in the Wine & Dine series and could easily be read as a stand alone but you'll want to read all five.

Death in Wine Country earns 5+/5 Camera Close-ups...Entertaining Fun!
Gemma Halliday has penned another engaging drama in her Wine and Dine Mystery series set in the middle of one of my own favorite destinations...Sonoma wine country. Fame, whatever degree, is a double-edged sword. Carrie Cross, soap actress, can afford a luxurious second home in wine county, but needs to upgrade security measures to block overzealous fans. Emmy knew Ms. Cross from her L.A. days as a personal chef, and now, Emmy is set to cater Ms. Cross’s housewarming party with more cast members and “network mucky mucks” in attendance. Ava, Emmy’s BFF, is helping, but she’s a bit overwhelmed by the appearance of all the soap stars and accompanying gossip. And there was plenty! One of the guests, who has suffered a “demoralizing” on-screen demise from the show, is not happy or interested in playing nice. The evening of wine and vegan fare goes well, but Emmy overhears uncomfortable conversations, witnesses a few private squabbles, and finds Harper’s body in the corral...death by horse?
I am an eager fan not only of her well-developed mystery with plenty of suspects, realistic motives, enough twists to keep me guessing, and a satisfying conclusion, but for the characters she’s created. Emmy is a creative talent with a very caring nature for her friends, and she’s quite the addition to any investigation, however, she isn’t always forthcoming with law enforcement and is often told to stand down. Ava is also a creative, but with a contrasting over the top personality which often has her doing before thinking. The drama with its greed, women scorned, secrets, a few extra felonies, and lots of personal peril will also have readers treated to winery activities, endearing friendships, and lots of food and wine through bonus recipes offering easy-to-follow directions, Tips! for substitutions, and the best Wine Pairings to make the meal complete: Wine Marinated Stuffed Mushrooms, Seared Wagyu Steak, Prawns, Garlic & Chili Linguini, Blueberry Lemon Bread with Lemon Icing, Irish Coffee, Chicken Piccata, Simple Salmon, and Sherry Potatoes. I love it!

The Wine and Dine Mystery series by Gemma Halliday is an absolute must read !! This is an awesome series to completely get lost in....
Death in Wine Country is the fifth book in this series and if you are caught up and a fan, it is like going home to visit family and friends. Even though there is a murder involved, readers cannot help but get swept away in the area and the people.
In Death in Wine Country main character Emmy Oak's old world and new worlds are colliding. Emmy moved back home to Sonoma from Los Angeles to help run her family vineyard and in this latest book her friend from Los Angeles, actress Carrie Cross and her husband Bert just bought a vacation home in wine country and Emmy is catering their housewarming party which is going to be hosting co-stars of Carrie's from her soap opera show, Carefree Hearts, as well as people involved in the show. Unfortunately when Emmy is getting ready to leave after the party, Carrie's dog gets out and heads right for the barn where Dante the wild horse is. When she chases after the dog, she not only catches the dog but finds a dead body..... Harper, a co-star on the soap opera who just happened to be written off the show recently and who Carrie claimed was like a sister to her.
Emmy knows that she should be focusing on the vineyard but she cannot help but get drawn to the case and want to find out who killed Harper and why. Also she would do anything for her old friend Carrie. And when Detective Grant has his eye on Bert, Carrie's husband, all thoughts of the vineyard are ignored.
Death in Wine Country has a GREAT storyline with a long list of likely suspects....unfortunately the killer will not be on the reader's radar. To which I would highly recommend readers just sit back, relax with a snack and a drink, and enjoy the story....and let Emmy and the detective do what they do best. Oh and on a side note.... Emmy and Detective Grant are finally taking their "relationship" to the next step...or half step. I know this is a cozy mystery and not a romance but readers can enjoy both and we do in this series for sure !!!

This is the fifth entry in the Wine & Dine mystery series. Emmy Oak caters an event for a good friend, who is a famous TV star in the popular Carefree Hearts soap opera. Unfortunately, soap opera becomes real life as one of the soap's stars is murdered. Emmy and her BFF wrestle with the thought of who would want to murder a beloved TV star. As they start uncovering truths, they both realize things are more complicated and has more twists and turns than any soap opera plot.
I absolutely adored this mystery. I've read all the books in this series but this one rises to the top. I love how the author is able to make every character a potential suspect and how the main character was finally able to discover the murderer.
I cannot wait for the next book in this series!

This series is great! I have enjoyed it from the first book. In this book, Emmy's soap opera actress friend, Carrie, and her husband are hosting a party for all of their celebrity friends at their home in wine country. Carrie calls on her long time friend Emmy to cater the event since Emmy catered all of Carrie's parties when they were in Hollywood. As the night winds down and Emmy is packing her gear back into her car, she accidentally lets Carrie's dog out and she follows him right to the stables. Not only does she find him, but she discovers the body of one of the celebrity guests in a stall with a wild horse. As the investigation continues, it seems as if someone is trying to make Carrie's husband guilty for the crime. Emmy, along with her BFF Ava, do their own investigation and find enough characters to create their own soap opera. Some tense and some funny moments ensue as they get to the bottom of this crime. Love this series!

There is just NOTHING to dislike about this book! This well-written story keeps your attention from the very first page until the last word! This fun cozy is part of a series but does just fine as a stand-alone because the characters and plot are so well developed. As always, a dead body surfaces during an event that Emmy is involved in. This time, she has agreed to take a catering job for one of her former clients. Be certain that there is plenty of humor, a blooming romance, and a hunky detective and Emmy just can't seem to stay out of the fray. Twists and turns that keep you guessing, you will love this book! And, if you haven't read the others, you will certainly want to if for no other good reason, because they are so enjoyable! I received an advanced copy from the publisher and this is my unbiased, unsolicited review! I have not read a book written by this author that I haven't LOVED. Go ahead! One-Click Now!

I absolutely love these books. Great characters, well crafted stories, just right mysteries that keep me turning pages, and plenty of laugh out loud moments. Emmy Oak runs her family winery in California's beautiful wine country. She has a fun best friend in Ava, who runs a silver jewelry store and gets herself and Emmy into plenty of shenanigans in wanna be Charlie's Angels style. In this mystery, Emmy's old friend from time spent in LA has moved nearby and Emmy is catering her house warming. A murder on the property during the party gets Emmy involved once again in a murder investigation. Her favorite detective, Grant, is back, and as tempting as ever. Watching those two is really fun, though the romantic in me is ready for them to finally catch a break.
These books can be read stand alone, or in any order, but really you'll want to read them all. They can't come out fast enough for me. Thank you Gemma Halliday for another great read!

This series continues to go downhill. I enjoyed the first couple of books but each has gotten farther and farther down the patch of annoying plots. I had to stop reading a lot to avoid over stressing my eye muscles from all the rolling they were doing. So many things are annoying about this book. The plot, the heroine, the sidekick, the plot (yeah it deserves 2 mentions) are getting so ridiculous it’s becoming hard to read. I hadn’t read a Gemma Halliday book in a while, but I don’t remember them being this bad. I thought I tempered her as an author I enjoyed for cute funny romantic cozies. I'm giving 3 stars because i do like her writing style, but if I was rating based solely on my enjoyment, I'd go with 2 stars. Hopefully the next book will be better, or I'll probably stop reading the series.

One of the best books and my favorite in this delightfully entertaining series with a twisty must-solve mystery that immediately pulled me in and kept me totally involved in all that was happening and not ready to say goodbye when I got to the last page. I love Emmy Oak and her dynamic with the other characters especially her best friend, Ava Barnett, and Detective Grant who may be her boyfriend - they definitely have undeniable chemistry! If you enjoy incredible cozies, don't miss "Death in Wine Country". I can hardly wait to read book six in the Wine and Dine Series by gifted author Gemma Halliday. I received an advance reader copy of this book from the publisher and am voluntarily leaving my review.

There’s another murder in wine country! Emmy Oak has been trying to build up her vineyard and is thrilled to be catering and event for her friend, Carrie who is a famous soap opera star. Unfortunately, as the party is winding down, Emmy finds another soap star dead in the paddock. Since Carrie’s horse is wild, it isn’t apparent that a murder has taken place at first. Emmy’s budding romance with Grant, the local detective unfortunately must take a back seat again. Of course, he wants Emmy to stay out of the investigation for her own safety. This book has a good blend of interesting characters from the rich and famous to the trainer working with the wild horse. I enjoyed this book very much.

The fifth book in Gemma Halliday’s Wine and Dine Series, Death in Wine Country is another hit in my book. My only criticism is that Emmy and Ava need to watch a few 1980’s era slasher movies to learn their lesson regarding “going into the basement after dark”. Otherwise I love their BFF status and the brewing relationship between Emmy and Detective Grant. I didn’t really guess the identity of the killer, which is a plus, and this was a new twist on a murder weapon for me. Overall, it was great.

too many concussions
Emmy has had 1-2 head injuries in every book of this series so far, each time losing consciousness and/or blurred vision. With that much damage, she couldn’t keep thinking straight. Do all these perps only hit on the head? She has plenty of info she should immediately pass on to the police but she doesn’t. She plunges into situations often like previous traps but doesn’t even stop to call for back up or let her detective know. Either she is brain damaged or just plain dumb.

A new Emmy Oak story! Carrie, a famous friend of hers, hosts a housewarming party, with Emmy as caterer, and a woman ends up dead. The woman is a celebrity, too, and all signs seem to point to Carrie's husband as the killer. Emmy also suspects him, but she finds and sees things as the days go on that make her question her initial thoughts.
Emmy will always investigate a case like this, to help her friends (or herself, in some cases) but more often than not she just winds up in trouble.
This was another fun Emmy story, with the usual characters making appearances, and is a great addition to the series.

Seeing stars
I can always count on Emmy and Ava to deliver some fun, snooping adventures and a little danger as bff's in wine country. Plenty of sigh worthy romance is thrown in when Detective Grant shows up and I'm still waiting to see who the dark and moody David has his eye on. This series really has all the ingredients of setting, characters and an interesting murder mystery to chase to make this a very enjoyable cozy series.

Beautiful setting, well written story & great characters. Wine country, a beautiful place for a celebrity to buy a house to get away from it all. Unfortunately murder follows. Emmy's friend Carrie buys a house & asks her to cater the house warming party. All goes well until the end of the evening when Emmy stumbles upon a dead body. Unable to stay out of it she gets involved to help her friend. A great read until the end. I look forward to the next book.

Emmy Oak owns a winery that she's trying to get off the ground by holding wine tasting events and offering the winery for celebrations. Her best friends Carrie and Ava are there for support and at one event, Ava falls for a tv soap star who treats her to flash restaurants. Carrie has a horse that her handler is breaking in as it's too unruly to ride. However one of the guests ends up in the horses pen dead and it seems she was pushed. ..

I haven't read a book in this series in awhile and I was glad to be reunited with vineyard owner Emmy Oak and her friends. This series is well-written and fast-paced and I really like the supporting characters, especially Emmy's best friend Ava and crush Detective Grant. And, unlike some of the other murder/mystery series-- the mystery part was well done!!! Very much enjoyed!!!!

ALL THESE books in this series are good IF YOU READ ONLY ONE. Every one is the identical story. Someone dies in winery she finds out who after wrong person arrested. BORING BORING after fiat book is read. I wont buy more. 5=too many. Adios.

While I thought the mystery was a bit more obvious this time, the story itself was enjoyable. The relationships between the characters have gotten to the point where they seem like old friends and as such, watching how they get along makes the story.

A fun and sometimes hilarious mystery with two friends trying to solve it. Gemma Halliday delivers a well cooked and delicious Wine and Dine Mystery.

I really enjoyed this book, as I have in all the Wine & Dine books.
This book wasn't slow at all and I found myself just wanting to keep reading until the end.

I adore this series. The characters are awesome. I was sure I knew who the killer was but was surprised by the reveal.

I have enjoyed this series. This book is a great addition. I really like the main character. She has come “home” to help save her family’s vineyard. The setting is lovely. The storylines are excellent. If you enjoy a good mystery then you need to read this one.
