THE TREASURE OF ISLAND M! As Verendi’s plans against Krakoa grow, the Marauders find themselves missing something vital. Artist Stefano Caselli (AVENGERS, AMAZING SPIDER-MAN) joins the crew of the craziest X-series of them al!
We didn't address the disappearance -possibly the death- of Kitty Pryde, instead this issue was mostly about Calisto becoming the white knight. We also got the first update about the morlocks, it seems they accepted a deal from Krakoa, to live somewhere in Arizona as retirees, supporters by Krakoan money. And still they can't trust Krakoa for some reason, having lived their lives on self-imposed exile because they are the ugly Mutants. We also got an update about the yellow jacket spying endeavor, I wonder if he will manage to get through Krakoa's defenses. Honestly not much happened this issue, I don't think, just little details for the world building.
E a occuparsene.
It’s was cool seeing Callisto back being as tho I just read about her in that Savage Avengers #0 which reprinted Uncanny X-men 190-191. Her introduction sequence was nice also, especially with Storm. Bishop also had a cool moment. But I’m still on edge wondering what’s up with Kate!!!
Marauders continues to keep me hooked and interested!
- I love how Emma is drawn in this issue especially the first scene with Jumbo Carnation and Callisto – some serious January Jones inspo, yes? Fight me, but I LIKE January Jones as Emma Frost.
- I obviously haven't kept up with the X-books, but does Callisto not always have tentacles for arms? Shame because I kinda like that about her, even though she scares me with the look.
- Rather worried that Bishop is walking himself into a trap.
- I want Bobby to find love. But not with Christian Frost the sneaky traitor.
- I'm sure Lockheed is alive. PLEASE. He HAS to be.
- I'm also *quite* sure Emma is on top of everything. Yes? She's keeping Kate safe and will spring a nasty surprise on Sebastian Shaw when the moment is right, yes? ENJOY TODAY, SEBASTIAN.
Emma Frost recruits her White Knight, Bishop gets word that Kitty never made it to M, and he tells Pyro to go back i Krakoa (Yellowjacket is still in Pyro and surveilling everything). As he goes back to Madripoor, he beats up a few guys and disguises himself as one of the soldiers.
Issue ends with the Quiet Council’s very first stalemate with Kitty absent. The final page is Lockheed being recovered from the ocean by two civis, looking dead
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This was decent enough entry, even a good one, but it left me a little unsatisfied leaving it open regards Kitty.
Calypso seems interesting enough and could be a fun addition and eventually sticking it to Shaw will be worthwhile... Let's see how it develops.
Also, the Verendi folk seem awfully competent compared to the mutants and always seem a step ahead.... Not quite buying them as the really "competent" threat they are presented as.
This one was great. Callisto and Emma's meeting was wonderful. There were a handful of great jokes, and nods to x-history. Bishop was actually cool in it too. I liked it a lot.
A co-worker told me the other day that comic book movies and comics were for kids. I kind of smiled at him and hand-waved his ignorance. People who say that have never read the comic books that I've read. They pretty violent for kids, with a lot of sex actually. (No this one doesn't really have any.)
Callisto has popped up again. I missed Callisto. Now that Kate Pryde is allegedly dead (I say allegedly because no one ever stays dead in these things), we have Callisto to take on her role. Callisto is a tad more dangerous than Kate, in that she doesn't mind humans that much, and doesn't mind killing mutant or humans if the need strikes her. (We at least know that Lockheed has been found, I doubt he's dead -- I can't imagine them killing Lockheed.)
Also, Callisto interactions with Storm and Emma were fun. Emma: We're taking our rightful place above them...Callisto: I don't know, I like humans...Emma: I wasn't talking about humans, I was talking about men. Go Emma.
The art was a little better than in the past. Also there were the clever emails, notes, and other bits intertwined with the art -- such as complaints on a neighborhood board about a group of undesirables (aka mutants) in Scottsdale, Arizona and weird stuff going on. Plus Callisto meeting Masque on the golf course was subversive in of itself.
Duggan is a bit subversive in his writing, so this series is fun and unpredictable. I actually think most of it would jump above a kid's head. So, I'd say more for adults, but that's just me.
Exposition! The plot thickens with the addition of Callisto and the (original) Marauders to the Dawn of X roster. I'll tell you one thing: Lockheed better not be dead!
