Paint #3.5

Doctor's Orders

Rate this book
Cutting, coke, calling Nate.
All three would help the clawing anxiety caused by the upcoming trial of Alex’s father. All three would cause Dr. Cooper to rush home from his life-saving job to deal with his neurotic boyfriend.
Adding watching kink to his list of coping techniques, particularly his secret medical fetish, helps until a little voice in his head persuades Alex to try one of his fantasies.
Who knew that adult stars lie about their innocence and that acting out scenes can have horribly awkward painful consequences?
It can also lead to your dreams coming true.

Emma is the #1 Amazon Bestselling Author of m/m series such as Paint, Incubus, and Lies.

Known as the Queen of MM angst her books include Sci-fi, paranormal, and contemporary romance and always puts her characters through hell before giving them a HEA. She blames her rebellious muse (who looks like Chris from the Paint Series) for the erotic aspects tickling the angst, and the humor cuddling up with the erotic.

When not writing or reading she herds Birman cats and sons; Both groups argue that the other is too large.

We know Alex and Nate from the impressive story Invisible Ink Paint #3. If you’ve read it then you know how fragile Alex is, how he used to deal with anxiety. He is stronger and that requires strength. Strength and help coming from Nate his now lover and former doctor. Nate understands him thoroughly.
Only now, with the approaching trial of Alex’s father, Alex has it bad. He wants to cut, wants to let pain take over his anxiety. Watching porn, to take off his thoughts, he runs into a good and painful-looking kink. He can do that, that will help, he hopes...

When his friend Chris brings him to the hospital for some medical control he can’t believe his eyes.
A table with the finest medical pieces of equipment, a couch and... a Doctor.

A super short, super adorable kinky story. Knowing Alex and Nate their story makes this one quite emotional. Nate is one of the best.
I could read on and on endlessly about these two men.
Detailed to the point, I love that. For a shorty is had all the required colorful ingredients.
Amazingly written, two delicious men, emotions, kinky aspects and unconditional love. Bam! who needs more, it was everything!

When I got this book, I didn’t realize it was part of a series. I didn’t really realize it until it was time to read it. You definitely need to read the others before this one. While this one tells you things, you still are missing the bigger picture of how we get to this point. But I have to say, after reading this little short story, I definitely want to go back and read the rest of the series to see what brought everything about.
There are some triggers. It speaks of cutting, addictions, the abuse he suffered as he was younger. The neglect of his parents and people around him. He’s recovering but it does talk about things. There is an upcoming trial for Alex’s father, for all the violence he inflicted on Alex and stuff. And Alex is falling down in his rabbit hole. He’s not sleeping, not talking and showing the signs of wanting to cut again or go find a fix. His boyfriend, a doctor, Nate, was his doctor at first when he was trying to get him better. Now Nate is trying to help him again, but in Alex’s mind, they can’t cross that doctor/ boyfriend line. It makes things weird. But Alex is getting worse from the stress and Nate needs to do something to get him out of his headspace before he does something dangerous. Between the porn he found Alex watching, and Alex’s friends, they come up with an idea and Nate hope it’s what Alex needs.
Being an addict is a hard enough hole not to climb back in. But add cutting and pain into the mix and you come up with some pretty bad stuff. So I can just imagine what the start of this story was about. Knowing he dealt with the abuse he did and the past he has, I definitely want to be reading it, but I know it’s going to make me sob. Just this little story did. Imagining the hell he went through. What I love about Nate, though, is even though he is a doctor and yes, some of the blame falls on his shoulders from having to work so much and not being where Alex needs him to be, but it’s that Nate is so patient with Alex. Nate knows that he’s going to have to deal with Alex’s demons the rest of their lives. It’s not something that just magically poofs and goes away. But he’s committed regardless, and wants what’s best for Alex. He wants to give Alex the love he so much deserves and continue to show Alex that there is a better life out there for him, if he can just keep it together, one day at a time.
It’s a short story but it packs a punch. It doesn’t hold back on how addicts and stuff deal with stresses of things they’re going through. It shows the good, bad and ugly. I’m happy to have gotten to read this part because I fell in love with Alex right off the bat and I want to see his story. As hard as it may be.

Emma Jaye at her usual finest in this short story

Young artist, Alex, is brooding in his boyfriend’s flat while gorgeous Nate is at work in the local ER as a doctor. On Alex’s horizon is the trial of his father at which Alex will have to testify, and nothing seems to be distracting him which allows his anxiety to soar. With Nate’s help, he’d kicked a cocaine habit and the self-destructive cutting, but he needed an outlet.

Turning to his computer, he finds kink with a medical fetish. Lucky for him, his boyfriend fills out his ideal fantasy. Thinking to try out something he discovered online, he finds himself in pain and embarrassed by the time Nate arrives home from his shift.

Emma Jaye is a master at portraying the angst of her characters while mixing in humour and a healthy dollop of love and caring. She doesn’t shy away from creating varied sex lives and kink, often activities I have never heard of, as was the case in this story. Still, the sex is sexy as are the different men she portrays.

Five stars all the way for Doctor’s Orders, a short read with lots of interest. Highly recommended for fans of m/m romance – if you aren’t already a fan of Emma Jaye, you soon will be.

First I need to say I don’t like medical kink. Not only that, but it is something that would keep me away from a book. Even then, I decided to read this short story because I was intrigued. I wasn’t completely able to enjoy the medical procedures involved in it, but I did loved the story.

What I liked about it was the lovely relationship between Nate and Alex. The story is set after Invisible Ink, Book 3 in the Paint series. I haven’t read any of those books yet, so it works fine as a standalone, even if it does mention some aspect of their life before being together. I fell in love with how perfect they were for each other and it made me want to go and read that series. Alex was an intriguing character and I just can’t wait to get to know him better.

The story have a little bit of everything. It have some angst, funny moments, a very hot scene and above all, a lot of love. Definitely recommend it.

"A Raw, Emotional, Beautiful Read"

I loved this beautiful, sizzling, gripping, seemingly all-too-brief-of-a-story; a story filled with a dusting of the existence of such raw emotional heartache and deprivation, one that elicits such a desperate need for such heavy escapism.  Through multiple forms of attempted survival, an equally heartbreaking kind of connection with peace slowly blossoms into an overall sense of needed tranquility.  As this peace is shakily discovered, the yearning for peace and love slowly develops into an even stronger, beautiful and wonderful young man..a young man who carries with him such a bright and loving soul..  This story was simply amazing..

Even with such a short story, I can say that it took no time at all for me to absolutely love it, as I was pulled right into such a gripping storyline with super fantabulous characters.  I adore the main characters, Alex and Nate and their beautiful, gallantly gorgeous, jig-sawed, strong and loving relationship.  Regardless of a few snippets of British vernaculars and slight confusion, I am equally desperate for more of not only this particular storyline but also of their very own story as well.  I was actually glued to my kindle as the characters stuck together, also like glue, as they were all stunningly a part of such an amazing plot, portrayed perfectly by such a intrinsically beautiful colorful cover..

Despite it's almost abrupt ending, possible triggers, and so many unanswered questions, Doctor's Orders, by Emma Jaye, from it's raw, traumatic and incredibly gut-wrenching hauntings to it's heartwarming and nurturing moments and it's squeeze-worthy men, has already made a comfortable place on my mind, and with their humorous and dedicated friends, Chris and Jase, they all have their own secure spots on my list of Future Reads.  I absolutely loved it..:)

This is a short story following Invisible Ink. This is more of a prelude to what will happen in the next book, or at least I hope it is. That is my opinion anyway. This was a good short story between the last book and the next book and it definitely made me want the next book in this series even more. I fell in love with Alex and Nate in Invisible Ink and having this short story made me love them even more!! Emma Jaye knows how to draw the reader in that is for sure. I have read several of Emma’s past series and I have loved each of them.

Nate knows now that with Alex living with him that he cannot bring in patients to help rehab them so he let Chris talk him into opening a rehabilitation center for both outpatient and in patient care called Baccioni-Cooper trust. So with trying to get this up and running and all of Nate’s other priorities, he has been extremely busy. Nate hates it because he knows that Alex is struggling with the upcoming trial involving his abusive father and Alex is not coping well.

When Nate comes home one night and finds Alex in a manic state, he fears Alex is cutting again. Alex on the other hand knows this is not the case. Instead he is having issues after watching some doctor/patient porn while Nate was at work. Alex decided to get adventurous and try something in particular he seen on the site and now Alex is in a very uncomfortable state that he is embarrassed to share with Nate.

After finding out about what Alex tried after watching the porn site, Nate comes up with his own ideas as to how to take care of Alex’s anxiety. Will what Nate has planned help Alex? Or will Alex refuse to cross that line that he has drawn between Dr Cooper and Nate the man and boyfriend? Is this thing that Nate wants to try actually taking things a step too far?

This was a great short story. It definitely made me want to know more about what is to come with the upcoming trial and how Alex and Nate will deal with the aftermath. I also look forward to more of Chris. He is such a unique individual that each time he is in a scene in the book, you just never know what will happen where Chris is concerned. Emma Jaye has a great series on her hands and I look forward to more as it comes out!!

Medical kink is so hard to find, so when I read this book is about this kink, I started to read it inmediately!
And then I was confused.
Because I loved it, but I knew the story. I knew what I was reading and what was happening next. I couldn't decide if I was having dejavu, or this book is a copy paste to some other what I've read earlier this year... and I was so angry with myself, so I started to spy LOL

So ladies and gentlemen, I did read this book earlier this year! And when? Remember the Come, Play Anthology ? Yeah... this story was, is in that book!

And now I'm half dissapointed and half not... because I LOVED this story, but I wanted to read a new medical kink. Sadly, this wasn't new to me, but I enjoyed it so much for the second time too.

The whole doctor/patient scene was really hot, and I loved their emotions and connections. Alex and Nate are a really good couple, their chemistry is awesome. And I soooo want to read their book, this series is on my TBR forever.

I really liked this novella and highly recommend it if you're into medical kink ;) Cute and hot at the same time.

I didn't realize how much I missed these guys 🥰

Alex is still finding his self - seeking that healthy coping mechanism that will ease the ache while lessening the anxiety

Alex being...well Alex - decides to try what he sees- no permemant harm right? Just what the doctor ordered.
And Why not? They did it and all was well?

Hindsight and all that..
Enter Nate the lover, the caregiver and the port to Alex's storm.

Okay at this point I was maybe shedding a few tears

I love these two they are so perfect for each other.

Chris, after getting a call from Nate, figures out what's up and our little Tigger being the insightful handful he is also finds a solution to the problem.

I want more!

If you haven't read the paint series may I ask WHY???

It has angst, laughter, friendship, love
And the cast?
Probably the most memorable not to mention adorable group of guys I've ever had the pleasure of getting to know

I'm on my tablet just wanted to toss those thoughts out

Alex is struggling...he needs to go to court and testify against his abusive father...but he can't use any of his old mechanisms. He promised his boyfriend Nathan that he wouldn't cut himself anymore or do coke. He instead found comfort in seeing medical fetish porn, which leads him to try new things that his boyfriend is not happy about. Nathan sets up a "medical exam" to help Alex cope. Alex is beyond happy that his doctor boyfriend helps make one of his fetish dreams a reality. You hurt with Alex and just want to give him a hug. But Nathan knows what he needs and is there to help him every step of the way. This story is full of angst, heat, love, understanding.. shows you what true love is, excepting the person you love for who they truly are...demons and all. .

I really enjoyed the story of Nate and Alex!! Alex has had a troubled past and suffering from anxiety over his dad's upcoming trial. Nate is the hot doctor Alex met while being treated at the hospital. Nate stopped being Alex's doctor so they could date and now they live together.
This book shows the struggles a person goes through while suffering from drug addiction and other mental health issues. Alex has a great partner and support system with Nate. This story was amazing in the fact of showing struggles a person goes through in this situation and how wonderful the love from your partner can change your life. Alex also has a medical kink he doesn't show Nate but he may get to live out his fantasy.
This is a short read but filled with so much!! I recommend giving it a read.

4 Stars!

This short story can be perfectly read as a standalone, which is what I did, although it probably would be best if read in order.

I wasn't too sure what to expect, especially when I realized just how short this book was, still, Miss Jaye shared enough Alex and Nate's backstory and their relationship as to not feel lost and it dealt with difficult themes in a sensitive manner. Alex and Nate were great together and I loved that Alex was willing to do whatever it took to help Alex out.

If you're a fan of the series, this is definitely a must-read, and if you are new to this 'verse, this book will leave you wanting to learn more about these great characters.

Aww, I just adore Emma Jaye's Paint series. Doctor's Orders, book 3.5 in the series, is a short, hot read.

This is the story of Alex and Nate. Alex is suffering from major anxiety about his father's upcoming trial. After already getting help from Nate to kick his drug habit and his addiction of cutting, now Alex needs to find a new outlet for his current anxiety.

Their story includes the use of pain for sexual pleasure, especially sounds. It's hot, and oh yeah, hot.

The author does a wonderful job developing everything in this short story, including the men and their sexual desires. I highly enjoyed Doctor's Orders, as well as the rest of this Paint series.

Kinky!

WOW! For a short m/m story this one is sure kinky. It really opened my eyes to the idea of medical fetishes. I really had no idea! This one is definitely interesting and intense.

I loved the characters and the love that they have for each other. They have trust and compassion through the darkness. They are lovable and very relatable.

Fantastic writing with amazing characters in a very kinky and steamy story.

I enjoyed reading this book. Even though this series is new to me, I felt like there was no issue reading this short story as a stand alone; however, the book actually intrigued me that I am also reading book 1 of this series so I can start from the beginning and enjoy some delicious Bacon on this ride lol. The info in the book sparked my interest that I wanted to see the growth of the characters and learn more about their backstory. This book is definitely worth checking out.

Emma Jaye continues to lay down the kink in Doctor's Orders. She exposes Alex's vulnerable side with the upcoming trial while Alex learns a new way of coping. Alex unintentionally shares this new fetish with Nate and a whole lot of fun ensues. This novella was fun to read and picks up right as though we are part of the family again. I highly recommend Doctor's Orders for anyone interested in kink; this is definitely a five star for me!

Alex is having high anxiety issues as he is due to testify in court against his father. He's trying hard to recover from self-harm and drug addictions and finds himself drawn to medical kink porn. Dr.Nate comes home and is willing to explore Alex's fantasy to try and put him at ease before testifying. I wish this went a bit further, having Alex go thru the trial and come out the other side. I long to see Nate wisk Alex away on a vacation and propose.

For the short story ‘Doctor’s orders’ is, the book was:
Hilarious
Dramatic
Educational
And steamy AF!
I absolutely love watching how Alex and Nate fuse together into a solid couple. The trust-building is amazingly done, so the personal growth of the characters. Seeing glimpses of Chris brought additional light to this bonus scene.
Patiently waiting for the next book.

This short story is a m/m romance. I liked this book and really liked Nate. He is beyond kind and caring. He would move the world for Alex if it made Alex happy. Nate is a little older than Alex and is a doctor. Alex is a recovering addict with plenty of demons.

I’m new to Emma Jaye and found this story very sweet and at times quite hot. It was the perfect length to show one couple’s love.

A seriously hot read tempered by love. Alex and Dr. Nate were great together. Nate knowing what Alex needed and giving it to him. Alex making himself vulnerable enough to put his trust in Nate to give him what he needs. A beautiful culmination.

Short story, evidently set between two novels in a series. Not familiar with them, I approached it as a standalone. Lead characters were adequately drawn, setting had enough details to be comfortable with the plot premise. While I was uncomfortable with the self-harm, the final scene nicely addressed it well.

As I am a gatherer of books, I collect books and ebooks from a variety of sources: Goodreads wins, Bookhub, BookFunnel, emails from authors and publishers, and others. I do lose track of their sources. But, as a reader, I feel I should give an honest, unencumbered review for all I read.
