Rate this book
An asteroid storm is coming that will destroy Earth.

A mysterious group within the government led by Colonel Cruikshank knew the storm was coming. They took extreme measures to keep the storm secret while building underground cities to protect the few and the fortunate. Cruikshank’s goal is that after the storm, his survivors will emerge from the protected cities as a more perfect humanity. He will create his utopian society named Arcadia, no matter what it takes.

Rick Munday is a husband, father, and struggling Astrophysicist who needs his grant approved. When Cruikshank learns that Rick’s grant proposal predicts the asteroid storm, he is drugged, kidnapped, and taken to an underground city named New Arcadia. On his quest to escape from the Arcadians and get home to his family, Rick and new friends use their high-tech skills to warn the world of the coming disaster and expose the underground cities. Captain Kobalt, Cruikshank’s enforcer chases Rick and his friends across America leading to a climactic conflict between Rick and Kobalt.

A debut novel with a well-researched, interesting, and terrifyingly plausible story that suffered from lack of editing and over-explanation.

The author should be applauded for bringing together various storylines and characters in a story that did ultimately have me wanting to read to the end to see how it all wrapped up. Unfortunately the novel significantly struggled with editing and over-explanation of the subject matter. Spelling and grammar mistakes were not caught and distracted from the story. Conversation was stilted and unnatural. Explanations of science, military tactics/equipment, and politics were gone over in far too much detail, completely taking away from what should have been fast-paced and exciting scenes, making them tedious and long winded.

I want to highlight that I appreciate and celebrate the amount of work the author clearly put in to making this book accurate. He's obviously passionate for accuracy and you can tell he wants the story well told. I think he would have benefited from a few more revisions and more editing.

This started off promising but fell off as it progressed. I liked the concept of asteroids and meteors instead of emp as the world ending catastrophe, something a little different. I liked the astrophysicist and hackers as the heroes instead of military men. Where it started to fall apart was when the politicians decided to go rogue and build entire underground cities that were never found out until this happened. The political splits and dissension is nothing new ( especially today) but the fact that so many factions were able to do something of this scale without detection is just fantasy. Then when the spa treatments begin it just totally loses it. So I pushed through to see where it was going but started skimming by the halfway point. Good ideas and plausible catastrophe but even for a work of fiction that spouted factual space information it was just too much.

Fantastic!

I loved this book. It kept me on the edge the whole way. I couldn't stop reading. I love books that keep me excited and make me feel like I'm right there experiencing the story with the characters. If the author did this good with his first book I can't wait to read the next one!

I received a free copy via Netgalley in exchange for a honest review.

This is a really good old fashioned Science Fiction / Fact read.

It was fast moving with some really good characters.

It was let down with the ending leaving some parts of the story hanging.

Overall though an enjoyable read.

Great book!

Quite different than some of the others. I've read several emo ones that occur on a plane, a ship and on land.

Surprisingly good book. I found myself rooting for the characters to make it. I’m going to have to look for a sequel if there is one.

The fastest book I've ever read. It kept me interested and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. I think my overall words per minute increased. The content and characters were refreshing. You could feel the tension and emotions as people interacted and people died. The government's deceitfulness and corruption is eerily similar to our current government. Enjoyed the book!
