I accidentally married my new boss. I've always been the 'good girl' in my friend group. But when my bestie dares me to let loose on my last free weekend before I start my dream job, I give in. It's only one night in Vegas. What's the worst that could happen? Here's a hint: Too many vodka tonics. Grinding against a stranger's hot, muscled body. A whispered demand to join him in his hotel room. Multiple you-know-whats. One major hangover... And a ring on my finger the next morning that I don't remember saying yes to. Marrying someone I just met is a huge mistake. But you know what's worse? Flipping him off as I threaten a restraining order... Then discovering he's my new boss.
Terrible story, inconsistent plot, bad editing. Characters are not believable or likeable. Overall a crappy story that follows to an uncompelling conclusion. And I don’t think you can be a billionaire with a set design company. Make it make sense. Ugh.
..man I've read a lot of 2 star books this month. Yikes!
Overnight Wife was unbelievably predictable. It all started with a night in vegas that turned into an overnight marriage. Just to make things more awkward they meet again at work.. where he's her boss and she's slightly pissed. With good reason but eh, these two were too insta for me. Everything was insta this and that ..and it made my eyes hurt.
Even with the romance, things were hot between these two but that's just it. The 'villain' was super easy to spot out and everything else was just predictable in my eyes. Pretty sure a blind person could see everything coming 8 miles away with this one.
I wanted to like it way more than I did but I just ended up being bored with the whole thing. Glad that it's over and I'm ready to move on to more exciting books. Maybe I need a breather from romance.. and maybe I should dive into darker stuff. Halloween/murder/darker stuff.
ARC received by author in exchange for an honest review!
This is a trope I love! Getting married at Vegas! I'm always telling my bf that.
The only thing that kept me from giving it 5 stars was the doubt of Mara. I totally understand it from one side, but on the otherside I'm like just do it already! Maybe I read to much because all the things I would agree too... Sometimes doubtful, but the books make it sounds so good!
From the beginning I felt a weird vibe with Bianca maybe because she was too much of a do gooder.
So much about this book didn’t make sense. How did John become a billionaire by making sets for plays?? The insta love is real in this book. He saw her and loved her. Boom. The story felt really disjointed and I felt like the writing told you what happened rather than showed. I don’t usually right negative reviews but this book had such good ratings and I don’t get it. The story line had potential but it went downhill fast. Sorry. I really hope the next book I read by this author is more developed and plotted out so that it makes more sense.
Loved loved loved this book! Not everything always stays in Vegas, especially if you marry a stranger. John and Mara do just that and then finds out that he is her new boss. Loved them!
Wow...what's NOT wrong with this story!? Seriously the entire thing is just so fake from start to finish. Mara and John meet in Vegas, she gets drunk and married him, and wakes up not wanting to be married, ok fine. But he seemed sober enough and wants this marriage, him the billionaire CEO who just got out of another sham marriage 6 months ago, right!?...and then Mara leaves Vegas (she's from CA) and doesnt even get John's last name or info to annul the marriage, leaves with no way to contact him. And doesnt seem worried at all, she thinks about it once and blows it off. Right...she keeps saying she doesnt want to be married, that it's crazy. That her career is too important, but she just leaves Vegas without trying to ensure she gets John's info. I mean she had no idea who he was, even though he's supposedly in the celebrity gossip spotlight a lot, that is just too unbelievable as how the hell does one get an annulment when they have no idea who their new spouse is or where he lives, he couldve been from anywhere and she might not see him ever again, but that wasnt a concern at all. Next day she goes to work and lo and behold her new husband is her new boss, both are surprised. Ok whatever. She's still wearing a nice ring, but only because she cant get it off her finger, it's so stuck using oil hasnt helped, right... But she's able to easily turn the diamond palm down. Of course. But still cant get it off her finger, uh huh...ok...sure... John still wants to make the marriage work, for what reason I have no idea. He claims hes never met a woman like Mara but how much does he know about her after drunken dancing, tons of alcohol, an Elvis wedding, and lots of sex, seriously!? But he knows he wants to be married to Mara!! What!? Btw Mara still doesnt want to be married...But then she's conflicted because she loves the sex. She waffles repeatedly with wanting to be with him and with wanting the annulment. Oh the Lamborghini car sex....as if the car has enough space to do the things described in that scene! Then John's mother pushed for a baby and upsets Mara because she's so career-focused, she hasn't even thought about marriage and family, and definitely doesn't want a baby now. This almost causes them to break up but somehow she completely changes her mind and wants to be with John for real. Then she realizes she's pregnant and is so excited. Then the near-death. And Mara tells John she loves him. Oh my freaking goodness!! This was just too unreal. There were so many times I was cringing at the storyline and rolling my eyes because there is nothing believable about this story. At times Mara's feelings changed so drastically and abruptly that I felt like I must've missed something, but nope! The writing was just that poorly done. Do yourself a favor and skip this one.
On the eve of starting her new job, Mara goes to Vegas with her best friend for a night of fun. She ends up married to a handsome man named John but she is not interested in trying the marriage out. She doesn't expect to see her groom again and is shocked with the man she married is her new boss John.
John is used to women falling all over him for his money and looks. Mara puts up a fight about her attraction to him but he knows one thing, he wants to give the marriage a try. Now he needs to convince Mara of the fact they belong together.
I thought this was a great book to just put my feet up and get lost in. Had great banter and chemistry. I was entertained throughout.
What happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay in Vegas and Mara & John learned that the hard way. Mara & John are sexy together and I love every minute they are together. John has secrets that come too light and might have Mara running the other way. Great read that I really enjoyed.
I voluntarily reviewed this Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Good story, however, the "villain" was not really a surprise to me. I knew from jump that character had ulterior motives. As always Penny Wilder brings a dirty talking, sexy af alpha male and a strong willed heroine to match him. Heat level was 🔥🔥🔥🔥.
Total fail. Some authors just think to themselves 'I'm going to waste someone's time today' and bam! You have this book...I'm not even going to rate this crap
I skimmed most of the book. It was my first book by this author and I’m not sure I’ll read others. The two main characters had zero chemistry, and no back story. They were two dimensional at best and had a love story that was unconvincing as a whole. I didn’t care for them and I found myself bored two chapters in. It was a short read, and it felt like the author didn’t care about the story. She wrote it for the sake of writing it, and it felt like a ploy. Like she was trying to put out as much of her stories as possible and she didn’t invest deeper into the book. I was sorely disappointed and I hate to see this is what being self- published has come to. Shame. I hope this doesn’t deter people from reading self-published books because I’ve read a ton of good ones through out the year. This just didn’t make the cut.
2.5 Started off strong, waking up married is my jizz but this very quickly fell down an insta-love hole.
When you wake up in Vegas married to a stranger I imagine there's a whole lot of shit to work out, when your husband walks into your new workplace - as the CEO no less - I'm sure it ups the amount of shit you gotta work out further.
Like I said, things were looking promising for set designer Mara and the hottie she married. Turns out the hottie was not only her new billionaire boss (of course he's a billionaire!) but also a scheming asshole who wasn't telling her the whole truth while simultaneously proclaiming his wants, need and then love for her.
It sort of lost its way for me and I ended up skimming to the end.
From reading the synopsis I expected so much more from this story but it just wasn’t there. The story was too fast and too insta love for me. It started off good, wakening up married to your one night stand and immediately regretting it. From the first chapter I expected Mara to be more feisty and there to be more bantering/push and pull between the characters but instead it was more lust induced and within 2 weeks they are sharing I love you’s and Mara is pregnant!
I really enjoyed reading this book. The content and everything about it just drew me in from the very beginning. John and Mara's story really hit all the high notes for me and I couldn't get enough once I started reading it . Yet again Penny Wylder has wrote an excellent book that you really need to buy/ borrow straight away. Its got a little bit of everything that you could possibly want from a book and I absolutely loved it.
Sweet. Sizzling. Fast and Easy Read. Married in Vegas Romance. Great Main Characters. John & Mara will have you rooting for their drunken hookup to marriage in Vegas romance with the feels, heat and twists that take place in this exciting story. The plot, characters, and romance are what made this one great read.
Another great read from Penny Wylder. I loved both and the development of the story and the characters. Marriage first then came love. But don’t take my word for it get your copy on KU today and find out where these two end up. A fun quick read perfect for a lazy afternoon.
I know this is supposed to be a hate to love contemporary but jeeeeez.
*spoilers*
To go from one douche to another, and then turn to putty when she tries to stand her ground. It’s a little luck luster. I wasn’t as drawn in to the characters and the story line as I would have wanted. I finished it for the shear fact of finishing it.
This book was pretty good, the story line was great and the characters had flaws and learned how to work together to fix them. I got weird vibes from John at first but they went away as the book went on. Overall a pretty good book
In a Penny Wylder way, this story is both hot and exciting. The Vegas marriage to finding out that you married your boss. Intimate moments are gonna make you sweat...but i'm so happy Mara and John found love in the end.
