All it takes is one FEARLESS man... As the sheriff of Sycamore Flats, Hen Randolph has seen just about everything this lawless land has to offer. Quick in the saddle and quicker on the draw, he's cultivated a reputation for being a ruthless sharpshooter—and an unapologetic loner. Hen's had more than his fair share of complications and is happiest keeping his distance from the world. The trouble is, sometimes the world refuses to keep its distance from him. Laurel Blackthorne knows what dark and dangerous men are capable of, and she'll be damned if she lets another near her or her son again. But the sheriff seems different—an honest man despite his prickly exterior—and perhaps her only hope of saving herself from a dark past that refuses to let go. When danger comes calling, can she find it in herself to trust a man who always shoots true? And can this independent loner be convinced that he's ready for something truly worth fighting for? 4 Estrellitas.
The writing started out a little rough and the introduction of the main characters could have been smoother, but it was not long before I was dragged into the story and the characters began to pop off the page.
This story is perfect for those who don't like the love at first sight deals. Here the love develops ever so slowly and sweetly with solid reasons for the H & h's attraction physically and emotionally to each other.
The pace was steady, and the conflict was continual which made it a page turner. I am also glad to say that I didn't feel a great deal of frustration, angst or severe negative emotion during any of it. It was a nice easy read.
I really liked all the characters and am curious about the secondary ones (the hero's brothers) and will seriously consider back tracking to read their stories at some point.
Like the H & h.. both slowly evolved and became likeable to me as they became likable to each other. If that makes sense. Both had serious issues from their past to contend with which made them both cold and hard in the beginning, but gradually they softened to me as a reader and to each other. Very well done IMHO.
I truly loved the hero. He was such an honorable man who didn't care about what others thought of him and was never discouraged by the heroine's inital distancing of herself.
The heroine was strong, independant and hard working. Like the hero, she kept to herself, She avoided the townsfolk, hiding away in her little canyon homestead with her son, until Hen (the hero) comes into her life.
I lowered 1.5 stars for some small reasons. One is the climax "gunfight" where no one gets shot (well one does, but you'll see what I mean). This goes with the whole theme of anti killing which is good in theory, but come on.. it's a historical western...you got to have guns and fighting. I do admit that the author pulled it off rather well considering, and made valid points, but I guess I felt a little more shooting and blood would have made it a little more fun and exciting.
I also felt the antagonists (the Blackthorns) motives lost focus. At first they were trying to kidnap Adam.. The heroine's son, because he is one of them and they wanted him with their family to "make him a man." Then Adam sort of fell to the back and then they just wanted revenge on the town and the sherrif for humiliating them. The Blackthorns had so many opportunities to do more damage then they did that would have heighted the intensity of the conflict, but the author chose not to go that way. It was okay for me, I didn't mind it.. I was personally in the mood for something more laid back anyway.
Lastly.. It doesn't usually bother me when there are editing issues, but... man oh man this book is rampant with things like wrong verb tenses, wrong words, etc.. But judging by the year of publication, it appears to be a conversion problem rather than a bad editor. To me it was only a minor irritation but enough for me t lower a fraction of a star.
Overall I found it an enjoyable read and I would recommend this book to others as well as look into reading more by this author

Hero-virgin - 1st time with heroine and no others after her. (really inexperienced. I think not even kissed another before heroine) Heroine-Widow. Married 1 week before husband died. No others after him except hero Cheating-No OW-no Cursing-nothing more then hell or damn Violence-very mild Insta love-No Rape-No Sex- 2 times - mild but not clean HEA/ILY-Yes Marriage-Yes
I loved this book. It mirrors one of my favorite movies, Support Your Local Sheriff (everyone should watch this). I also love the complexity of each characters’ emotions. When it comes to something as complicated as love, the perfect romance doesn’t exist. I thought that Greenwood portrayed this very well. I also love the trope of a strong-willed man with a gentle center - so that definitely didn’t hurt either.
Laurel is my favorite in this series. As a matter of fact, ever since reading Iris for the first over 10 years ago, I knew I would just love Hen's story—and I was right. I was in love with him after the first chapter...which was truly amazing since I never feel that strongly about the hero in a story. Even the heroine, Laurel, was not too bad. She was strong and had some definite issues but she wasn't too pushy about them. Her child was charming but a little tortured himself, which didn't detract from his overall charm. I give this book a 4.9 but marked a 5 'cause that's close enough. :D
For some reason, I found this one to be a bit dry and hard to finish. I was excited that Hen was a virgin hero, and I liked him and Laurel and her son, Cody. But it just wasn't that enthralling to me. I didn't feel that much chemistry between Hen and Laurel to be honest. Even though Iris and Monty drove me crazy, I thought their book was more interesting, although they aren't anywhere near as nice as Hen and Laurel were.
I love reading books about damaged abused heroines who come out on top and LG has a plethora of them but for the life of me, i can not like any one of them. Too stubborn(all in series so far), too set in their ways(Iris) too prejudicial even. Rose so far has been the best and I couldn’t give that book more than. 3.5 stars. And i still don’t get why the brothers are so dead set against George. In every book they treat him like he’s as bad as their dad and i didn’t read any of that at all. And the ending was lame. You had all the brothers there and it was lame. This was my first series with this author and though she has some good characters, plot and everything in between, i don’t think I’m much a fan of her writing overall. I’ve been skimming since the second book and only read parts that contains the brothers. I will stop here for now in this series. Maybe if I’m curious or REALLY bored, I’ll finish one day. Which is kinda sad because i really do want to see what happens to all the brothers in the end. I just don’t want to take the road there.
Hen Randolph was a man that was hard to read. He didn't seem to have any emotions. Empty eyes. He'd had to kill when he was fourteen to save his twin's life. Now, he took a job as a sheriff in Arizona Territory to help them with rustlers. He didn't expect to meet the woman who would change his life.
Laurel Blackthorne was an outcast in Sycamore Flats. No one believed she'd been married and that her six-year-old son, Adam, wasn't illegitimate. So, she stayed in her small home in the canyon and did their laundry. Staying out of everyone's way. Until the new sheriff came and helped her. She hated gunslingers, but this man had a soft side to him.
I'm enjoying this series. I like how the author brings the other brothers in to help each other when one of them is in danger, even though they fight like cats and dogs...there is love and caring there. **Sexual content
Meh I couldn't really stand Ren. He acted like his opinion was gold and kept telling Laurel what she believed was stupid. The only thing I liked about him was that he was a virgin and he grew to understand himself. I usually just felt bad for Laurel, and I felt offended for her. Usually I have to be in the mood to read a book with young kids, but once I start they are adorable and add to the story. This is one story where I couldn't stand the kid. Her six year old just got on my nerves and was there to add a whole bunch of drama. The thing I didn't like was the writing of inner dialogue. There is sooo much inner talking and somehow they run back around from being furious to finding reasons to actually like the other. There was more fighting between these to then romance.
I really enjoy Leigh Greenwood’s writing, but sometimes it leans too heavily into realism for my taste. I appreciated that the brothers weren’t perfect—they were flawed and damaged in different ways, which made them more human. However, I struggled to feel the deep love and bond between them. Even their interactions with each other's children came across as rough and emotionally distant, lacking the warmth I was hoping for.
Most of the couples were just okay for me. Aside from George and Rose, none of the pairings left a lasting impression. That said, I did appreciate that each couple faced their own challenges and earned their happily-ever-after. It was also satisfying to revisit the previous brothers and see how their lives have progressed and how their families are growing.
I really loved this book. Laurel felt relatable as a character. Hen is very admirable for being a virgin before being with Laurel as well as brave for taking on the whole Blackthorn clan for Laurel. I thought it was hilarious when Zac was the one in a dress. Before that I wasn't all that fond of Zac.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
It's a nice blend between town conflict, morals, shoot em up cowboy, and romance tucked neatly between two covers. It was a fluffy read that helped cleanse the palette. I like the authors writing style where the story flowed at a good pace, the variations in sentence structure and that keeps the reader guessing to the end.

I enjoyed this book to no end! I was propelled forward through every page needing to know if the hero and heroine could make it through each and every hoop and overcome their differences and their own reservations and end up together. I'm so glad that I picked this book up and read it even after realizing that it was the fourth in a series that I hadn't started. I'd love to read the rest of them now. I like the Randolph family and have begun to guess and hope which girls may end up with which brothers. I was entertained, humored and touched all while reading this book and that is the true test of a good book.
This was a very, very entertaining, emotional, and at times a very funny book. I enjoyed it a lot. Laurel was just the right person for Hen. He was just the right person for him. I liked him because he was not afraid to show her his emotions.
My favorite in this series thus far. Held my attention better than the previous books. Enjoyed Hen's metamorphosis throughout the progression of the book.
Liked this one from start to end, Laurel is a real woman with moxie and guts. Hen is a man's man that still manages to break the mold and their unconventional family makes for a unique read.
