יפים כמו שהיינו הוא הרומן השלישי של רון לשם. ספריו הקודמים: רב־המכר מגילת זכויות הירח (2009) ואם יש גן עדן (2005) ספר הפולחן עטור השבחים והפרסים שראה אור בלמעלה מעשרים מדינות. כתסריטאי היה שותף ליצירות: אופוריה, ימים נוראים, תא גורדין, בופור.

torn between 3 and 3.5 stars.
When piece-of-life meets a military novel and some scifi...
Nice, thought provoking and touching at times, but with a main charecter I had trouble identifying with and a bit too long for my taste. I actually felt that I read some sections twice.

The writer, who brought us "אם יש גן עדן" which became a cult novel, keeps himself close to home with a lot of testosterone, blood and "bromance", now blending with self exploration and philosophical search for a life meaning. Give it a shot if you like coming of age stories, or the writer other works.

Like other books by this author, The book has 2 plot lines - the present - A trip in Bolivia with a mummified body, and the past - his childhood in Gush Katif on the shores of what is now Gaza and his military service and the way they are intertwined with each other. unlike other books, this book touches the sci-fi area with a system that is related to memories. The book brings the subject up for discussion and provides a platform for another protagonist - the memory, our memory, the protagonist's memory. As the protagonist says - the memory of the event isn't the event itself but the way we remembered it the last time we pulled it, everytime we touch a memory we touch it with unclean hands, changing it a little bit more.

I've had a feeling that his book If There's Paradise was well written but only good because of the certain situation so when i've started reading this book i've had high doubts that he'll be able to write another good book. This time, unfortunately i've been right- a book about nothing that is trying to be deep with mediocre writing and no substance whatsoever
