Sugar Free 3 is a revolutionary new plan based on the latest research and science. It's not a diet. It's not a detox. It's not a cleanse. It's a three-week program to reset your entire approach to food and eating. You'll discover why added sugars, artificial sweeteners, and refined carbs are bad, the sneaky places they are hiding and a simple step-by-step plan to eliminate them and help crush your cravings without calorie counting, cutting food groups, or eating tiny portions.

As the former editor-in-chief of Women's Health and Cosmopolitan, Michele Promaulayko has spent the last decade at the forefront of the newest research about how sugar and artificial sweeteners affect your mind and body and she developed Sugar Free 3 to help people rein it in.

I wasted my time and money. Redundant and far too simplistic. I felt as if I were reading factual blurbs that had been spliced together from morning entertainment shows that feature a ‘get healthy’ segment.

I don't usually read self help books. I find them annoying. If I want to change something in my life, I just change it. I don't feel I need someone else's plan or recipe on how to make a change. I made an exception here, though, and read this book to get me started on something I did not feel I could ever do, namely, give up sugar. Over the years, I have developed the habit of eating something sweet often throughout the day. It was so easy to do this. At one place I worked, they had shelves filled with baskets of little candy bars, free for the taking, and the idea was, hey, we have a very stressful job so these little sugar bursts will keep up our energy and stamina for the difficult tasks we do. And I did not just take one at a time! I routinely grabbed three. The actual result of this practice was a bit of energy followed by a restless need for more sugar. There are so many examples of habits I had developed like this. I did have a lot of stress in my jobs and had trouble sleeping at night and trouble staying awake during the day. I knew some of my colleagues had given up sugar altogether. I could not even imagine doing that. Sugar was my motivator and my little reward, a punctuation mark at the end of each task before beginning another. So I read this book. I won't say I agree with or have adopted everything it says, but I did challenge myself to eat nothing with added sugar for three weeks. The first week was tough. I counted the days. Would I ever get to twenty-one? It seemed impossible. But after the first week, it got easier. And by the second week, I had developed the attitude that sweet things were not food. They just weren't food to me anymore so why put them in my mouth? That's really an amazing mind set shift for me. I have not noticed a huge weight loss. I have not noticed a difference in my complexion. But I have a kind of sustained level of energy that goes along with the normal cycles of mealtimes that I did not have before. As I was eating sweet things all day, I can't really say I ever felt hungry, but I did have a false sense of craving that wasn't really hunger. Now, when it's about time for lunch, I can just tell by the way my body feels and what I want to eat is something that's healthy and good for me. I know this may sound so "Pollyanna" to say but fruit really tastes almost overwhelmingly sweet to me now. And though the three week challenge is over, I really don't see the need to go back to my old habits. I'm not sure if this book will make this kind of change in your life. I think you have to be ready to make that change first and if you are, this book can be helpful to you.
