Sometimes remembering is hard to do! But in this lyrical tale, Ellie Holcomb celebrates creation’s reminders of God’s love, which surrounds us from sunrise to sunset, even on our most forgetful of days.
Adorable! Such sweet truths about God paired with whimsical artwork of animals and children. The 18mo old that I take care of asked me to read it over and over after we brought the book home from the library.
I love this book! And so does my son. I have never read a little kids book that covers as deep, theological/emotional concepts as this book. I like to think that if I read it to my son enough, he will commit it to memory and recall it as he grows older and realize the truths hidden within these sing-song pages, and learn from or be helped by those truths. Besides that, I am blown away by the aesthetic of the book. The poem's flow is easy and yet beautiful to the ear. The pictures are creative and whimsical. And they are absolutely stunning; I never tire from looking at the artwork. There is so much going on in them and the colors are gorgeous. I am so grateful that someone gave this book to me for my baby shower.
In rhyming text this book challenges kids to notice the ways that the world around them can remind them of God's love for them in so many ways.
Beautifully stated, lyrical text presents solid Biblical principles and reminders of God's promises in a way little ones can easily grasp. And they are the types of things you hope and pray will sink deep, down into their hearts to make them stronger teens and adults down the road who know these things are true. The illustrations in this are utterly enchanting, featuring little kids playing with animals both wild and domestic in landscapes that just beg for you to try and step into the pages. Highly recommended to Christian families, churches, and schools. This would make a fantastic bedtime read.
Guys. Is this a kid’s book? Yes. Did I still order it online? Yes. Does it really deserve five stars? Yes!
After ordering this and her other book for myself, I watched Ellie and her daughter on a Facebook live read and sing this book. It is absolutely simple and beautiful. If you have kids (or even if you’re like me and you don’t 😂), get this book. And, while you’re at it, listen to Ellis’s music. She has songs for this book and her other one. Worth a listen.
A nice calming read after my three year old skipped nap time and was a little loopy. The artwork led to many questions, but the pictures were pretty to look at.
I have to admit I was hesitant to buy this book. I really thought it would be way too sappy, as so many Christian kids' books are. But I was thoroughly enchanted, as was my 2 year-old grandson. This book is a beautiful reminder of the goodness of God, which I expected. But I didn't expect it to be so kid- friendly. The illustrations are so enticing, imagining scenes every child would dream of participating in. There are a variety of landscapes, animals, and children, and each page has multiple things to count, notice, and find. And best of all, although there are no Bible verses quoted, you can guess which passages the author was thinking of as she chose the truths she wanted to convey. I can see how each page would be a springboard to a larger discussion of a spiritual truth, and I'm sure that was the author's intention. For this reason, it has the potential to grow with a child, where a young toddler would just enjoy looking at all there is to see on each spread. But as the simple text is read over and over, it would gradually sink in and lead to bigger thoughts and conversations. I also like the basic premise, that God is prevalent in all of creation. In looking for children's nature books, so many of them do not point to God.
My only criticism is that in some spots the flow of the wording was very slightly awkward, but I loved the book so much, I still gave it 5 stars.
Don't Forget to Remember by Ellie Holcomb is such an adorable book! It is oversized, perfect for reading to the little one in your life. It's pages are thick, like a board book so it is sturdy and very well made.
The story line is about how every aspect of creation speaks to us of how much God loves us and will never forget us. The words are simple, yet beautiful. I like the rhythm and cadence of the words and so will the children you read it to.
The illustrator, Kayla Harren, has created gorgeous artwork on each and every page. The book is chock full of fun, colorful scenes, ranging from a meadow to a jungle to the ocean. There are both children and animals on each page. Children of every nationality and animals of every kind. There are many, many things to point out and talk about all throughout the book.
The only minus I would give this book is that there are no children with any sort of different ability. I would have loved to see a child with crutches or a wheelchair, a child with glasses or hearing aids, or a child with Down's Syndrome. Other than that, Don't Forget to Remember is a charming book and I would highly recommend it to parents or grandparents.
In a rhyming narrative, all of creation reminds the young reader that God’s love always surrounds them and that God will never forget them. As the rhyme spins out its heartfelt story, children romp at the beach, feel the warm sun, catch snowflakes, wander through fields of flowers, find the rainbow peeking through the raindrops, sail the ocean, and soar in a hot air balloon. At every step, the children interact with animals or nature or see the wonderful fullness of creation.
With lovely full-color, double-page illustrations, this board book is a delight for both the eyes and the ears. Its gentle, affirmative message guarantees that this book will become a beloved favorite for parents and children to read together.
This story has such lyrical text and beautifully gorgeous illustrations 🥰 I love the message of the story so much. It just seems especially important in a world that seems to want to give God less credit and see Him as not important. To have the reminder to not forget how great and powerful He and His love is. That all of creation points to Him. That is such an important truth to know. That we are loved by Him. That we were made to worship Him. So much of these truths are packed into this great children’s board book. I think it may be my favorite board book as I’m not usually a huge fan of them.
I love Ellie Holcomb's music, especially her children's songs. This board book accompanies her song by the same title and is such an important reminder for children and adults. The illustrations are beautiful and include images of God's creation with stunning landscapes and fun animals.
Scripture shows us the tragedy of forgetting God and the blessing and wonder when we don't forget to remember Him. This faithful book reinforces those reminders. God is good, God is always with us, and we are dearly loved.
My friend shared this with me at her house and I kept thinking about it. The following week she used this in a talk in church and the words and meaning captured my attention again. So I ordered myself a copy because I don't want to forget to remember that all things testify of God's love for each one of us. I want to share this with my family over and over again.
The illustrations are beautiful and imaginative and richly colored. Playful and profound enough to engage and delight any child or adult who has a spark of hope still gleaming inside.
I AM NOT A CHILDREN'S BOOK CRITIC BY TRADE BUT I HAVE HUNDREDS OF BOOKS FOR CHILDREN IN MY POSSESSION AND HAVE READ MANY TO MY SONS AND NOW MY GRANDDAUGHTERS OVER THE YEARS. THIS IS A BEAUTIFULLY ILLUSTRATED BOOK WITH A GREAT MESSAGE. LOTS OF COLOR, DIFFERENT TYPES OF ANIMALS AND CHILDREN ILLUSTRATED THROUGHOUT WITH A SIMPLE BUT POSITIVE SPIRITUAL MESSAGE OF GOD, GOD WILL NEVER FORGET YOU. I WILL BE LOOKING OUT FOR THE AUTHOR'S OTHER BOOKS TO READ TO MY BABY GIRLS. THIS IS A WINNER FOR SURE!
A really sweet book about how creation reveals God's love for you. The illustrations are fantastic -- aesthetically pleasing with loads of animals and flowers and things for kids to notice. The author is Christian (not Catholic) and the book has a very Franciscan feel. My main complaint is that the writing isn't great. It's meant to rhyme, but the rhyming, rhythm, and in some places the grammar aren't great, so you have to figure out how the syllables fit together.
Looking for a baby book for a toddler in boardbook format wth scads of animals and children of all shapes and sizes with God's promises on every page from beach sceen to watering hole and in every season. This is your book. The illustrations are enchanting, the verse poetic and pages sturdy and glossy. I can just see grandparents reading with grandchildren and sharing the wonders of God with this new title. Check your public library shelves for this new treasure.
Words can’t express my love for Ellie Holcomb’s two children’s book (this being her newest). The text is lyrical and powerful, while the illustrations are some of my favorite EVER. Elliot loves them both. Ellie also has children’s albums with music that corresponds to the books, which is so fun to listen to in the morning with him
(5☆ Would recommend & would read again) This is one of the cutest books I've read in a while. The pages are beautiful!! The artist did an amazing job. The storyline is cute, simple, & to the point; but it is also such a needed message for little hearts. The use of rhyme is well done & is engaging for kiddos.
This kid book is powerful and rings with great truth about God and the world that He has created. The illustrations are beautiful and very well done. I was encouraged by the message shared in this book greatly.
"On glad days and sad days, God's near and He knows. He can use any storm, To make good things grow."
"Don't Forget to Remember" reminds the reader of God's love and presence. Themes in this book are connection, reassurance, and inspiration. I would not read this book to a class as it has to deal with religion but if I did it would be to kindergarteners. Also, because it is about religion and God I would not keep it in my library.
I don’t have children (yet, God-willing), but I love finding new children’s books and adding them to a collection that I’d like to have to build a bookshelf in the future.
This book is so so beautiful. The artwork and the words and so eye-catching and grabbing. I would’ve loved a book like this when I was younger.
A lovely poem about God’s love with stunning illustrations! The words are conversational but allude to scriptural truths and imagery, and each page is a feast of gorgeous colors and adorable animals.
Rhyming text and enchanting illustrations lead us through creation, looking at the details in nature and using them as signposts to remember the many ways that God loves and is faithful to his children. Beautifully done.
