Since I turned thirty, all I can think about is having a baby. Someone of my own I can love. Someone who won’t break my heart. But I don’t want another relationship ever again. I thought about going to a clinic. But I like the idea of knowing the identity of the father of my child, even if we’re not an item. So I pick Marc. Or Fitz, as everyone else calls him. He’s tall, handsome, healthy – apart from his injured back – hardworking, kind, and loyal. I’d be happy if my child were to grow up like him. So I ask him if he’d agree to be a sperm donor for me. To my disappointment, he says no. He does say he’ll be happy to get me pregnant the old-fashioned way. According to him, extended foreplay increases the man’s productivity. I think he just wants to get me into bed, but I’m willing to give it a try. Do I go ahead with it? There aren’t any drawbacks to having a quick fling, surely?

5 Star Review of My Wounded Billionaire (The Billionaire Kings #5) by Serenity Woods
Having read the previous books in the series, I was excited for Poppy King and Marc "Fitz" Fitzgerald’s story.
With her biological clock ticking Poppy decides the time is right to have a baby, someone who she can love and be loved by unconditionally.
Poppy is not your usual heroine, like her father and brother she is on the autism spectrum and finds social situations difficult and hard to express herself properly. I love that Serenity Woods is not afraid to give us non typical characters, she writes about people who you could know and it is her “honesty “ with the characters and their flaws that really add another layer to her stories.
Having been badly hurt by her ex boyfriend, she has no intention of getting involved in a relationship again. When she decides that she wants the donor to be someone she knows, she asks Marc, a fellow co worker at the Ark if he would be interested in helping her achieve her goal.
Marc, having been attracted to Poppy struggles with the decision but eventually agrees as long as they do it the “old fashioned” way.
After a great deal of miss communication and doubts, Poppy and Marc finally connect. My Wounded Billionaire is a sweet, romantic and at times spicy story that will bring a smile to your face and have you cheering for Poppy and Marc to get the happily ever after they both deserve. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
How wonderful that My Wounded Billionaire gives us more Kings!
Much like her brother and father, Poppy King, isn't a typical character you see in romance, especially as a woman. She isn't good with social cues and has been called some rotten things due to quieter nature, so it's no wonder she's decided to forgo future romantic relationships. But Poppy does want kids and wants to know the father's identity. Friend and colleague, Marc "Fitz" Fitzgerald, is the person she'd most like to help her achieve this dream.
Marc's had a thing for Poppy since she started working at the Ark, and her rejection to his only request for a date has him champing at the bit for a chance with her. He's interested in more than a fling, genuinely liking her as a person. He convinces Poppy to conceive the traditional way, having done a lot of research into the "old school" benefits vs. a doctor's office. Poppy stands firm on no romantic relationship and warns Marc not to think she'll change her mind, but agrees to his conditions. Will a work trip to Hawke's Bay give them the time for Marc to convince Poppy he's the one for her? It might get tricky when it's also the place where Marc's ex-fiancee broke off their relationship.
Marc and Poppy are both likable characters. Marc may be more selfless than the average guy, but really cares about the people in his life. Occasionally, I felt like he was edging close to martyr territory, especially in regards to his family. Poppy has often felt like she doesn't fit in wherever she is and has taken steps to protect herself. I was a little confused by her assumption that a child will never break her heart. To that extent, I felt like Poppy was only focused on the things that had hurt her in the past, which felt like she was setting herself up for hurt in a different way. All that being said, these are two people who have had some hard relationships. They both have so many people who care about them, but just needed to learn they could open themselves up to someone else.
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book.
The Billionaire Kings series books are so full of heart and romance, and My Wounded Billionaire is a great new edition to the series. The setting for the series is an animal rescue center in New Zealand called The Ark, and the theme of animal rescue gives a wonderful backdrop for the romantic stories. Poppy is in charge of the petting zoo part of The Ark where she teaches children to take care of and respect animals. She has had a series of dismal relationships and a poor experience with intimacy. It doesn't help that she has problems with communications and reading emotions that runs in her family. She decides that she would rather have a baby out of wedlock and skip the relationship part. When she approaches Fitz, the estate manager at The Ark, as a potential paid sperm donor, he prefers the "old fashioned" way to get pregnant, and a potential chance to get closer to Poppy. What follows is a steamy story with Fitz's efforts to show Poppy that sex can be good for women (WOW), lots of ghosts of past relationships, and Fitz's old Army injuries joining them in their pursuit of a baby. As usual, Serenity is not afraid to tackle real issues in her stories, that give them depth, feeling and tension. I love all her books and this series wins on every level!
My Wounded Billionaire by Serenity Woods The Billionaire Kings #5
What fun this book was! Both Poppy and Fitz have been hurt by previous partners and though Fitz is interested in Poppy she is NOT interested in a relationship now...or ever. Poppy does want a child of her own, though, and believes Fitz will be the perfect specimen to provide the sperm she needs to create the child in question. When his idea of “the old fashioned way” rather than IVF is suggested he has a long list of reasons why it is a better idea than a clinic would be.
The discussions Poppy and Fitz have are absolutely wonderful! Poppy is never sure if what Marc, the name she calls Fitz, are true or a false sense of his own abilities in the bedroom. The two are quiet but both realize that sharing and conversation will make things less awkward...or something.
Their time in Hawke’s Bay was so much fun to watch like a fly on the wall. I have to say that I loved this couple and was thrilled by how it all worked out for the two of them by the end of the story. Still have a smile on my face now thinking about some of the encounters they had :)
Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.
This is the 5th book in the Billionnaire Kings series which follows the children & family of The Wise Men, the founding brothers of the We Three Kings foundation. I would recommend reading this series in the correct order as the lives of all the Kings are intertwined and mentioned throughout the various books. This story is about the relationship between Charlie & Ophelia's daughter Poppy and Marc/Fitz.
Marc or Fitz to his friends has loved Poppy since he first met her, however Poppy has been hurt before by a relationship going bad and can't get over the cruel things he said so doesn't want another.
Poppy finds it difficult to express her feelings and emotions as like her dad Charlie, and brother Albie, she is highly intelligent but on the autism spectrum. She doesn't read people well and needs to be told in no uncertain terms what people want to say as she can't read between the lines.
Poppy has therefore retreated into herself and decided that she will never have another relationship, but she desperately wants to be a mum. Rather than go to a sperm bank, she decides to ask Marc if he would father her child, unbeknown to his feelings for her.
Although Marc is shocked at her request, he is attracted to her and has been since they first met, so he decides to use the situation to his advantage. Marc tells Poppy that he will father her child but not via a sperm donation. He wants to get her pregnant the traditional way.
Marc is not rich like Poppy, so could use the money that she offers for his services but he also hopes to change her mind about relationships.
Can Poppy change her mind and want Marc to be in her future as well as the father of her child?
This is a lovely story which alongside the gentle romance, will make you smile and laugh at times, Poppy and Marc confide in each other about their past relationships and learn to trust again despite their difficulties in communicating.
Teachers could assign this book as supplementary reading material! Do they still separate boys and girls for sex ed classes.
I love Marc's guided meditation through coupling and Poppy's quick learning of the techniques. The setting of the majority of the book is less focused on the Ark in the Bay of Islands.
The little scene with Mel reminds me about a sighting of my ex a couple of generations ago. I abruptly quit seeing him right at winter break. I never offered him any explanation. I just knew the trail had ended, and I didn't contact him again. I saw him 5 or so years later in the grocery parking lot. He was driving a minivan with three car seats in the backseat. The last time I had seen him, he came out and told me that he was going to medical school after undergrad and he wouldn't be getting married for many years. I woke up from my daydream knowing that he was not The One for me. The young man was married within a year of my giving him the gate and he and his wife had three stairstep daughters right away. He was a nice guy, but that kind of forever was never in our relationship.
My Wounded Billionaire is the fifth book in this series, set at an animal rescue center in New Zealand called The Ark. The animal rescue theme provides a delightful backdrop for the romantic stories that unfold. Poppy oversees the petting zoo at The Ark, where she teaches children how to care for and respect animals. After a series of disappointing relationships and struggles with intimacy, she decides she would rather have a child out of wedlock and forgo the relationship aspect entirely. However, her difficulties with communication and reading emotions, which run in her family, complicate her plans.
When she approaches Fitz, the estate manager at The Ark, about becoming a paid sperm donor, he prefers the "old-fashioned" route to conception, seeing it as an opportunity to get closer to Poppy. What follows is a steamy tale of Fitz's efforts to show Poppy that sex can be enjoyable for women, along with the haunting memories of their past relationships and Fitz's old Army injuries as they navigate their journey toward parenthood.
Marc (Fitz) has always found Poppy attractive and whilst he has attempted to let his feelings know. Poppy hasn't quite grasped his intentions, missing the cues in his words and expressions due to her high-functioning autism. However, during the cyclone four months ago he visited her in the petting zoo at The Ark and asked her making sure that there was no mistaking his intentions. She turned him down, still not ready for a relationship after her last one ended badly.
Whilst Poppy may have given up on love, there is something she isn't willing to give up on - her desire to have a baby. Asking Marc to be her sperm donor and offers to pay him. Much to his annoyance, although after realising she didn't mean it in the way that he thought he decides to counter offer. He'll be her sperm donor if they do it the traditional way - hoping that Poppy will change her mind about being in a relationship with him.
Can this arrangement work between them? What happens when they get to know each other? And how do they deal with issues along the way?
A nice story between a woman who thinks she is broken and a man still harboring bitterness from a broken relationship. Poppy knows she is "on the spectrum", so she believes that any mistakes in a relationship are her fault for misunderstanding. She doesn't realize that the man who did all the damage was not an ideal by any means. Fitz has survived with walls around his heart because of his injury in the service which his fiancee could not live with. When Poppy conceives an idea and asks Fitz to help her, he takes it a step further. The family and friends are there to cheer them on and both get what they realize they really want.
I keep saying "This is my favorite from the series" but I give up: I can't pick a favorite. This series keeps getting better and better.
Fitz and Poppy are one of the cutest couples I've ever read in my life. I loved how he was able to melt her walls little by little through the book without being pushy or making her feel ridiculous. The love and understanding for each other melted my heart. I love this gang so much!
This was a good story. Charlie’s daughter, Poppy, was 30 years old and decided she wanted to have a baby, someone to love her. She .Ike’s Marc and they worked together at the Ark. Marc really liked Poppy and tried asking her out, but she recently had a break up with a former man. Poppy told Marc about her wanting a baby and asked him to be a sperm donor for her. This gets really interesting, you will want to read this one.
Last week Poppy refused to go on a date with him. She doesn't want a relationship. Now she wants him to father a baby for her. What is he going to do? After thinking it over he agrees but he wants to do it the natural way. Hopefully by then he can win her over. Another hot wonderful story.
Poppy and Marc are a great pair. Both have horrible dating experiences, and are not looking for anything serious, or at least they weren't. Poppy has a proposal that Marc has a counter proposal for. Things get very interesting. A great read! Check it out
I’m working my way through this series and enjoying each story along the way. The Wounded Billionaire focuses on a heroine who’s on the autism spectrum and a hero (work colleague) who’s been smitten from their first meeting. It’s a treat!
Another great instalment from Ms Woods. This story had a lot of emotion and it made me sad for Fritz and Poppy. Lots of drama in this book. Can’t wait for the next book
Ahh these books are so great! And they’re really making me fall in love with the landscape of New Zealand (and maybe imagining a cantankerous rugby player or two 😂). I’m glad Poppy got her HEA !
Not sure quite how she does it, but when I read one of Serenity’s books I am immediately transported into the story, you could shout at me and I wouldn’t hear you! This story is no exception! Poppy, who is a highly intelligent and very rich woman, is on the autism spectrum. She finds it hard to express her feelings because she is concerned that she will do or say the wrong thing. She had been in a totally disastrous relationship with a married man, who left his wife for her but treated her very badly. When they parted he said some very cruel things to her, and she was devastated. She has retreated into her shell, and decided that she will never have another relationship, the heartbreak just isn’t worth it. But ... her biological clock is ticking, she is thirty and wants a child, whom she will be able to love unconditionally. She gets on well with her colleague at the Ark, Marc, or Fitz as everyone else calls him, and decides to ask him to be her sperm donor.
Marc is quite shocked at her suggestion. He has been attracted to her since they met, but he is aware of her broken relationship and has kept his distance, giving her time to recover. He refuses to be a sperm donor, unless they make a baby in the traditional way. He does a lot of research and comes up with all sorts of reasons to support his view, and eventually Poppy agrees, but she is going to pay him, and she is absolutely not going to have a relationship with him. Marc does not want to take any money, he is uncomfortable with that, but he has personal reasons why he needs money, he is not rich like Poppy. He hopes to be able to change her mind about the relationship.
He has to go to Hawke’s Bay on business for a week, they are building a new Ark there, and he is overseeing the work. While he is going to be away it will be Poppy’s most fertile time, so they make arrangements for her to go with him, she can provide her expertise for the petting farm, where children are taught how to treat the animals. Marc finds them a gorgeous, and unusual, place to stay. While they are there they relax with each other and confide in each other, something unusual for both of them. Towards the end of the really romantic week Marc gets a phone call which really upsets him, and he has to rush to Hamilton to deal with a family matter. Poppy does not see him during this time although they do talk on the phone, and text each other. She is a bit sad that he hasn’t asked her to help, and assumes their relationship is over, even though she has changed her mind, she would like Marc to be a fixture in her life.
Everything seems to have gone wrong, and when they meet up again at a reception she thinks he is avoiding her; she quietly leaves, and rushes home. Her father Charlie sees her leave and follows her. His wise words help her sort out what she really wants, and find things out she thought were impossible. Marc is not far behind Charlie, and they soon sort out their issues, and the happy ever after soon follows.
This is a gentle and romantic story, very sexy in parts. It makes you smile, even laugh in places, and it is very touching when they open up to each other about their previous disastrous relationships, neither of them have had someone in their lives with whom they can confide. It is a lovely edition to the series, and I very much hope there are still a few more to come! Well worth reading. It can be read as a stand-alone, but reading the others in the series adds to the pleasure, as you then know the other characters.
A worthy addition to a heartfelt and steamy series
Serenity Woods has written another wonderful, lovable couple. They are so good together. I love how they talk and really get to know one another in between the smoking hot love scenes. Yes, the story setup is a little crazy, but I love it. The warm characters and the beautiful New Zealand setting make it a joy to read. These two good, wounded people are so sweet together.
Poppy’s family have tons of money, but they all act like regular people who work at their own charitable animal rescue, veterinary, and petting zoo facility. She had been burned by her previous relationship where the guy said cruel things and did not show her love. Poppy is on the high-functioning end of the autism spectrum, like her father. She has trouble reading people’s expressions and body language. Poppy is a sweet, thoughtful person. She has only had a few losers for boyfriends in her life, and she thinks that it is impossible that any man could give his woman an orgasm every time they have sex. Well, Marc intends to prove her wrong after she suddenly asks him to donate sperm.
Marc has been wanting to date Poppy since he first met her over a year ago when she came to work at her family’s business. Marc is a good, regular guy who is the property manager at the animal rescue facility. (He is the brother of the heroine of the first book in the series.) Marc previously had been seriously injured in a plane crash in the army, and his back bothers him a bit. He convinces Poppy to get pregnant the old-fashioned way while he tries to get Poppy interested in having a relationship with him.
Like the rest of this “Billionaire Kings” series, it is written in present tense, first perspective that alternates between the two primary characters. I like this choice; the writing flows and feels natural. The multiple love scenes are beautifully intimate and still hot as a suana. This author is extremely good at writing love scenes. You could read this series out of order, but you get more out of it by reading in order. So far, I think that this is my second favorite in this series after Book #4, “My Lonely Billionaire”. I recommend this book to everyone who loves steamy contemporary romance with nice characters.
I received a free advanced reading copy from the author, and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.
Poppy King wants a baby to love but she doesn’t want a relationship. She is planning on visiting a fertility clinic to be impregnated. But she makes the accident of telling Marc Fitzpatrick aka Fritz her plans. Although she does want Marc to be her baby’s father.
Marc Fitzpatrick has always felt something for Poppy King but due to a variety of reasons, he has held back. The biggest reason is that he understands she is on the autism spectrum and struggles with understanding people and reading social clues. But to him, this isn’t an issue. He knows he has to approach a relationship with her differently.
When Marc hears Poppy wish to have a baby, he takes the chance and makes her the offer that he will be willing to help her. But the caveat is that he wants to do it the old fashioned way and he is willing to keep “practicing” until she is finally pregnant. Poppy is very hesitant to take Marc up on his offer. In all of her relationships to date, she has never enjoyed having sex with her partner. This she thinks is a direct correlation to being on the spectrum.
Marc needs to go to Hawkins Bay to check up on the new Ark location and decides to ask Poppy to come along with him. And to turn it into a week long vacation. Poppy is hesitant but she finally agrees to go with Marc. With only one week to show Poppy how wonderful they can be together and to help her fulfill her mission, Marc pulls out all of the stops to make things work.
Marc has been waiting for Poppy for what seems like forever. Can they make this last forever?
Ms. Woods is a fantastic character writer and it shows in all of her books. But in this one, she has outdone herself.
I did receive a copy of this book in advance from the author in exchange for a fair and unbiased review.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I needed the pick-me-up after taking a break from a translating job that's giving me headaches at the moment - Poppy and Fitz were just so ... huggable! Is that even a word? I made it into a word now.
They're both wounded (Poppy by her stupid ex who would honestly deserve a King posse coming after him, and Fitz by an actual accident, and his ex that ... is really not that great, which was something a little new; in previous series by Serenity Woods, the ex-partners were usually pretty okay too, just not the right fit, but in the Billionaire Kings, the author explores some other options as well, and not all relationships end on a good note either!). They're both looking for something more. It's up to Fitz to convince Poppy that the 'something more' is him - and I like the old-fashioned way he chose to go about it (and yes, solving her 'I want to get pregnant' too).
Interestingly enough, despite the fact Poppy is placed on the spectrum just like her brother Albie and her dad, Charlie, she doesn't really strike me as such, whereas both Albie and Charlie do. High-functioning, of course, but Poppy just seems so much more well-adjusted ... maybe because she doesn't say what's on her mind but thinks about it first? I don't know, it was kind of interesting to read!
This was a quick, enjoyable, steamy read (lighthouse, anyone? It's like an episode of Sims 4 but I LOVED it!).
And cameos from Charlie King are always appreciated. I feel like he's the only one who can get away with saying 'mascara explosion' into a sobbing woman's face hahah!
Another great book in the Billionaire series! This one was about Poppy and Fitz. We have met both of these characters before (Poppy is the sister of Albie from book three and Fitz is the brother of Izzy from book one) and I've been looking forward to their story since we first saw the hints of flirtation between them during the storm a few books ago.
This book featured one of my all-time favourite tropes which I wish was more common in the romance world. Poppy is over relationships but wants a baby, so asks Fitz to be the sperm donor. Fitz has had a crush on Poppy for forever so he says yes, under one condition - they do it the traditional way.
As I said, I love this trope and as always with Serenity Woods books, the characters had amazing chemistry. I love the shorter length of Serenity Woods books because they're just long enough to get a satisfying story but you can also read them in just one or two sittings (as I often do).
I do feel that slightly more could have been made of the sperm donor plot. I was kind of hoping that we would get to see Poppy's pregnancy play out as her and Fitz got closer, but instead the entire book just focused on one week that they spend together, at the end of which she hopes to be pregnant. It was still obviously a great read, but I don't think the trope was used to its full potential. Not quite as good as the previous book in my opinion, but still a fun read!
