Not even the darkest night can extinguish the radiance of two loving hearts coming together.

Life is a daily celebration for Adrian Pontimore, the hottest new event planner for the Manhattan elite. His days are a high-priced whirlwind of cocktail parties, weddings, conventions, tea parties, housewarmings, and baby showers. Everything is simply amazing for the owner of Quintessentially Adrian Event Designs. Until the dark and hate-filled side of life rears its ugly head, tearing apart the delicate happy bubble that Adrian has constructed around himself.

If not for the bravery of one of New York’s finest, Adrian’s days fussing over décor and bridal parties might have come to an abrupt end. There’s something about a man in uniform, but there is something extra special about Officer Galen Ellison. Not only did he save Adrian’s life, he’s slowly winning his heart. It’s going to take time, patience, and good humor to help Adrian overcome the fears that haunt the shadows now, but those are qualities that the handsome, affable beat cop seems to have an abundance of.

Full review tomorrow when I'm at the laptop.

Righty, this one was a tad more angsty than the others in the series and involves an incident which could be a potential trigger so do be aware.

However, I couldn't have been happier with how VL handled this whole relationship. I adored Adrian, with his fussy ways and his extravagant clothing and out there personality. NYPD park cop Gallen was just the perfect calm and settled soul to work his magic on the events planner.

There was plenty of time given to Adrian's need to recover from what happened and nothing was rushed or glossed over, especially considering this is a novella length book.

The serious side is nicely balanced by some humour and Brian Gilles biting wit as he helps Adrian get over his move to Brooklyn 😁

I'm really looking forward to the next book in the series, which will be Caiden's fabulous chef and all-round housekeeper Luis.

#ARC kindly received from the author in return for an honest and unbiased review

3.5 stars rounded up...full review to follow soonish.

I've been looking forward to this one...

"Reserved" is the fourth book in Ms. Locey's series 'Tales of Bryant' and while I've been looking forward to it for a while now because it's Adrian's story and I've come to really like this character and bizarrely enough even though I didn't feel like I loved this book quite as much as the previous ones. I think I actually like Adrian as much or maybe even a little bit more than I did before reading it.

We've met Adrian in previous stories he's an up and coming event planner. He planned Isamu and Brian's wedding among other events. He's larger than life. Adrian is flamboyant and he's living his own truth. There's just so much about him that I adore...like his hats. Ok, I know this may seem strange but I love hats unfortunately because I come from a family with larger than average head sizes, wearing hats for me is simply cost prohibitive. So, when I encounter a character in a book who can indulge in something that for me isn't a practical reality because at the heart of things I am a boringly practical person, I live vicariously through them...therefore, Adrian + hats = happy me.

Adrian is in many ways a larger than life character but he's also very genuine and endearing. He's a successful event planner and needless to say he's got a very busy career that allows little time for a 'personal life'. So, the fact that he meets the man who makes his heart go pitter, patter while he's working really comes as no surprise. That said man is also a police officer was maybe not surprising but definitely interesting.

Galen Ellison is one of New York's finest. He's out, proud and the perfect match for Adrian. He's strong, confident, handsome and not only was he not bothered or intimidated by Adrian's over the top, flamboyant ways, but, it was very much a part of what attracted Galen to him in the first place.

For me 'Reserved' felt like a bit of a modern day fairy tale and for the most part I really enjoyed it. I loved getting to see more of Adrian, I adored that Galen loved Adrian for who and how he was never trying to change him...simply treasuring Adrian in all his awesomeness.

While it's always fun to meet new characters such as Galen or Tracy, Adrian's new assistant, it's having little moments here and there with characters from previous stories that's always one of my favorite things.

I've pondered this story for a couple of days now and for the life of me, I haven't been able to figure out what it was that caused it not to work quite as well as the previous stories for me, but I do know that I still really like Adrian and while a bit more angst laden than some of the previous stories, I did enjoy it and I definitely liked the pairing of Adrian and Galen...so, I'm going with it was simply my state of mind when I read it.

I sincerely feel that if I were to re-read this, say in a couple of months or whenever, I can very easily imagine that my rating would be different than the 3.5 stars that I've given it here, but for now it is what it is and truthfully 3.5 stars is by no means a bad thing and when the next story is out for this series I'll be there with my grabby little hands ready to jump in and find out what's happening and to whom.

He has the best job he could wish. His own company Quintessentially Adrian Event Designs.
A sparkling man with an attitude as large as his company name. Flair and flirty, high maintenance and I found him extremely delightful. I giggled and snorted at his air towards the world and especially toward officer Galen Ellison.

After faced the horrible darkness of life, Adrian’s confidence crumbled to tiny pieces. His shining blue knight takes him in to recover. A long and painful road, but with his head up fiercely Adrian recovers and with finding his strength again he finds something even more precious... Galen’s beautiful heart and unconditional love!

Most pages were made of sparkle, glitter and light tap dances. It was more than delightful.

So much fun to see the world through Adrian’s eyes. What a sparkling personality!
Even in his lowest moments, he is still duke status worthy. Adrian being completely worshipped by Galen was the best to experience. The man loved every detail of Adrian and to be true, so did I.
An absolutely adorable story with the most colorful character ever. Except for the dark part, every page was sparkling with glitter.
An awesomely written story beautifully paced. A journey where every exceptional detail was highly lovable.

V.L. Locey has released the latest chapter in the Tales of Bryant series, featuring the impossibly elegant and quirky Adrian Pontimore—the very same man who staged Brian and Isamu’s wedding in Bryant Park. I simply adore Adrian, as he no doubt knew and assumed I would. Those who follow this series of wonderful novellas will remember him as the flighty wedding planner with the backbone of steel mentioned in previous stories. Hidden beneath the bold and seemingly nonchalant exterior he portrays to his clientele actually lurks some real trauma that Adrian has dealt with in his past. Bullying, beatings, and verbal abuse have all shaped the man Adrian is today, but he has put all of it behind him and, much like his name change, the past no longer rules his life—until it repeats itself and brings back all the terror and paralyzing fears that have hidden in the recesses of his psyche for so long.

Adrian Pontimore, the event planner extraordinaire of the Tales of Bryant series, gets his own story here after meeting Officer Galen Ellison in a Brooklyn park while working. It's like a lightning bolt for both of them, but Adrian wonders if it could be too good to be true? An unfortunate incident throws them together again, and Adrian needs to figure out if this is his happily-ever-after, with help from Brian and Isamu, Caiden and Devon, Luis, Tracy, and Tavi the Pomeranian... humor abounds, this is a fun read that brings you to an enjoyable and familiar place... you'll enjoy every moment you spend there, just like a buttery brioche and coffee in Bryant Park.

In her second novella from the A Tales of Bryant series, Reserved, V.L. Locey turns a stereotype into a living, breathing man. And what a man party planner Adrian Pontimore is, all svelte 6 foot 7 inches of him.

We first meet him in lemon culottes pants and at close of the book, he’s wearing a silver cape, this man who knows all the milliners in Manhattan and has a pomeranian named “Captain Octavious Crumpet,” Tavi for short.

Adrian quickly informs readers he “tended to flitter about on the verge of an anxious apoplexy.” And we learn he “tended to be a bit of a nervous Nelly when alone at night in strange places. Being beaten up on a monthly basis as a child does that to you.” Adrian grew up as “the queer boy everyone in Bala Cynwyd hated more than crab grass.” Don’t you love how Locey’s words draw us to Adrian?

When he is the victim of a hate crime, Adrian is rescued by Galen, the very police officer he’d flirted with earlier. Adrian and Galen are quickly enthralled. It helps that Galen stays by Adrian’s side in the hospital. After his release, when Adrian finds he is too terrified to walk Tavi without a panic attack, Galen offers to host him in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Adrian, who is a snob about every borough other than Manhattan, finds himself brought to reality by his circumstances.

Locey paints Adrian’s paradoxes to perfection. This man can be absolutely smug, describing Galen’s reaction to him. “The poor man could not rein in his admiration of my leggy self.” And he can be completely insecure, telling Galen, “‘You don’t want to look on this ugly, anxious gangly man who can’t even walk his dog without dissolving into tears.’” But don’t many of us suffer from arrogant insecurity?

Yes, the two men are certainly in love. But is it real, or a short-term response to the terrible circumstances Adrian has survived? You’ll smile all the way through until you learn the answer.

Without giving away plot details, my favorite element of ‘Reserved’ is that it vindicates a long-held belief. When we’re scared to commit, it’s often because we wonder if we are strong enough to love, to accept our own flaws – as seen through another’s eyes. What will it take for Adrian to feel he deserves Galen’s steady appreciation of his anxious flightiness?

In addition to Reserved’s other virtues, prepare to have your mouth water at dishes served at Adrian’s elegant events. This standalone sufficiently captivated all my senses, until I forget all our coronavirus woes. Oh Adrian, I do wish I could meet you. My great thanks, V.L. Locey.

Trigger warning: hate crime, mugging, severe beating, homophobia
I absolutely love Adrian. He has this pizzazz about him that just makes you love him so much. He is a queen, high maintenance and has no problem telling you that. But it’s part of his charm. I was so waiting for him to have a good story. I was very surprised at who he ended up with, because at first I was picturing someone else, but the way this book turned out with everyone, ended up being perfect.
Adrian is known for his flair. He’s also known for his parties, thanks to Brian and Isamu. He’s busy as ever and loving life. And at a park where planning an event, he meets the man of his dreams, and all in a uniform as well. Police officer Galen has charmed the pants off Adrian. Well Adrian wants his pants off, but he’s trying to behave. But one night after the event he did, everyone went home and he was finishing cleaning up, when something bad happens to him. And now, he’s lost his spark. He’s terrified and has panic attacks at the slightest thing. And it’s going to take the love of friends, patience, love and understanding from his new beau and a boost of confidence from Adrian himself, to get his spark back and put his life back together.
I hate when bad things happen to good people. I don’t care if it’s a sexuality thing, a race thing or whatever. It’s just wrong. Adrian never hurt anybody. He was just a flair and high maintenance, but he was fun, charming and always with a smile on his face. He overcame great things to get to where he is now and for someone to try to dim his light just broke my heart. But what I love is that Galen is perfect for Adrian in so many ways. He doesn’t mind the flair or the high maintenance. In fact, he loves it. It just adds to everything that is part of Adrien’s heart and soul. He’s also perfect, because not only does he save Adrian, but he’s determined to help bring that spark back into Adrian’s life. He’s just one to want to jump into the sack, he generally just wants to woo the man. To show him love and affection and be all that Adrian will let him be for him. And it’s just a perfect pairing. When you read, you will see why.
I love this series. I’ve loved each and every story in this series. And it’s hard to pick any one as a favorite because they are all so good. I’m just happy to see that these guys are getting who’s perfect for them after all the crap they’ve had to endure.

Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.
This is billed as novella #2 in the tales of Bryant series, but I would call it book 4, really. You don't NEED to have read the other books, but it might give you an opinion of Adrian before you read this one.
And you will need that opinion, trust me! I had Adrian all worked out, I really did, and he surprises me here. There's quite a bit more to Adrian than he portrays in the other books, and I loved him here, while not so much in the others.
Galen, Adrian's rescuer, is the sweetest man I've come across in my reading in such a long time. And I DESPERATELY, desperately needed him to have a say here, and he doesn't. And I know I said that in the reviews for the other books, but HERE was where I needed the second person's point of view the most!
Galen is smitten, right from meeting Adrian in the park, and I wanted to know WHY, I NEEDED to know WHY, and I don't get to hear from Galen and I am mighty, mighty not a happie bunnie about that!
I loved that Adrian, while having immediate and intense attraction to Galen, puts a hold on doing anything about that. He wants to enjoy himself with Galen, and then things happen *spoilers, so not saying* and then Adrian can't do anything about his attraction to Galen. But what that does is, makes Adrian concentrate on his FEELINGS, rather than the need to scratch an itch. And again, I needed to hear from Galen at this point!
You feel for Adrian, in the aftermath of what happens, you really do. His recovery is portrayed in a sensitive way, but some readers might have triggers. If you want to know, please ask the author, or me, and I will tell you, but since it's spoilers, I'm not saying here.
Because of what happens, the physical relationship between Galen and Adrian comes late in the book, and I LOVED being made to wait for the main event, I really did!
Ah, sod it! I wrote 4 stars at the top of the page with a view to say only 4 cos Galen doesn't get a say. But NOW? I think Galen having a say would have been the icing on the cake, but I really REALLY loved this instalment at Bryant park, I think this would be my favourite of the four, so . . .
5 full and shiny stars!

Delightfully delicious, with a touch of angst.

I've really been looking forward to reading Adrian Pontimore's story. He's an event planner who has appeared several of the Tales of Bryant books and I just knew I'd love whatever V.L. Locey wrote for him. I wasn't wrong. 😊

Adrian is unapologetically femme. His manner of speaking, the clothes he favors and his mannerisms all remind me of a character from an era long ago. V.L. Locey has written the perfect story for him and lets us see deeper into his personality. This story had me chuckling to myself over and over until I got to the awful part that I knew, from the blurb, was coming.

Adrian becomes the victim of a horrible mugging turned hate crime, and that was so hard to read about. Fortunately, a wonderful man in blue comes to his rescue while his partner chases the bad guys. Officer Galen Ellison was smitten the first time he encountered Adrian in Prospect Park and he's horrified to see him so broken from a mugging.

I loved everything about this book. The witty writing and repartee between Adrian and the other characters was delightful to read. And, while the mugging and its aftermath was difficult to read, it was necessary for the story being told.

I almost forgot to mention Adrian's little black Pomeranian, Captain Octavius Crumpet (aka Tavi), who does a great job of stealing scenes in this book.

Tales of Bryant has been a great series to read and I'm really looking forward to the next book.

A copy of this book was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

3.5 Stars!

Life is going fantastically for Adrian. His event planning business is booming and he couldn't be happier. When a chance meeting in a park with Officer Galen Ellison turns into the potential for something more, Adrian is flying even higher. Unfortunately, an attack by robbers and subsequent rescue by Officer Galen and his partner leaves Adrian struggling physically and mentally to recover.

I will admit this one was a struggle for me. I suspect it's a case of it's just me, and not the book. I wanted to read the other books in this series, but ran out of time and I think I would have enjoyed having the insights into Adrian's friends at a minimum before jumping into this one. That said, I liked Galen and his gentleness with Adrian; it's clear that he is smitten with Adrian from the start. I love how he accepts all of Adrian, too; it would be wonderful if we all had partners like that. Adrian is quite the character. I loved that he was unafraid to be himself, that kind of courage is sometimes so hard to come by. However, I really had a hard time connecting with how Adrian talked, the wording he used just kept catching me off guard and it threw me off, unfortunately. That said, I was happy to see these two fall in love.

I suspect that anyone who has read the other books in this series will enjoy this one immensely, and I plan to go back and read them as soon as I can.

VL Locey's Reserved, the fourth book in the Tales of Bryant series, is positively charming.

Adrien is hysterical, full of sass, sparkle, and attitude. The reader can't help but to fall in love with him immediately. I love the way he talks, dresses, and his brash attitude. The fact that he takes a liking to Galen, a cop who's his complete opposite only adds to the fun.

These two opposites find not only attraction, but also love, as Adrien heals from an attack. And oh the emotions involved. Not only is his body broken, but also his spirit. The result is a slow, touching journey towards healing.

The writing is stellar, with two intriguing characters and a wonderful storyline. Once again, the author manages to capture some of the atmosphere of NYC, including the different parts of the city. If you're familiar with the city, this series that revolves around the iconic Bryant Park is sure to warm your heart.

Reserved is a story with an interracial couple, a brutal attack, and horrific homophobia slurs. It's a tough read at a few parts, but it's a wonderful story. VL Locey once again impresses me with the depth of her characters and the surprises she throws our way. If you've been reading this series, you will be thrilled to see this new side of the charismatic Adrien.

For Adrian there is no more perfect a man than Galen. From their first meeting the sparks flew!
Then when Adrian is attacked in the park , Galen becomes his hero in blue.
The author wove such a beautiful story for them. In previous books you see a bit of Adrian's queen shine through but in this one, we see all the flying , gorgeous colors and I for one was enchanted by Adrian.
Galen knew what he wanted, was strong in his decision and let Adrian come to his own decision regarding them. I LOVED the patience, understanding, teasing and loving that Galen bestowed on Adrian. They understood each other and the author gave us, the reader , a beautiful story to giggle over, be upset over, a couple too root on and the desire to smack a few people around. Galen's mom is a gem on her own. The easy acceptance of Adrian was so heartwarming to read. Oops! I don't mean to give anything away but it's hard not too. Therefore, I will end this review now. I will let the reader find out for themselves.
I received an Advanced Readers Copy for my honest review.

Adrian is very flamboyant, loves to be fashionable, and his event planning company is growing by leaps and bounds. While planning a wedding in the park, he meets police officer Galen. They hit it off. Then tragedy strikes, Adrian is beaten and robbed following an event, officer Galen and his partner find him, chase the bad guys and get help for Adrian.

During his long recovery time, they get to know each other quite well, Adrian has always moved too fast and ends up with a broken heart but maybe this time it will be magic. Galen helps him move forward and start to get over his fears since the assault, his friends rally around to help, and love blossoms between the two.

I enjoyed the overall story and seeing some of the couples from earlier books in the series. One of the sweetest characters, Captain Octavius Crumpet, Tavi for short, Adrian’s little spoiled little doggie, adorable!

Oh Adrian....how I had already loved Adrian in the earlier stories. Once he had a whole book to himself, he proved himself to be even more high maintenance than anticipated. His eccentricities are boundless; his fashion sense extravagant. Galen doesn’t just accept this about Adrian....he seems to be beguiled by it. This leads to many sweet swoony moments. Like Galen, I’m captivated by the poetic way Adrian makes the English language sing.

The crime that stole Adrian’s sparkle was hard to read (trigger alert) but his supported fragility in the wake was heart rending. His friends offer patience and love and his pup Tavi (whose full name is perfect) is enchanting.

Galen has such a calm presence, a steadying influence perfect for the emotional whirlwind that is Adrian.

As usual, Locey delivers a finely crafted, well-developed satisfying entry into the Bryant Park series. I cannot wait for the next entry in the series.

I enjoyed this story, but didn't love it. Unfortunately, I had a little trouble connecting to the MCs. In particular, I felt like we didn't really get to know Galen enough, and even though it was written from Adrian's POV, there could have been a bit more of a focus on developing Galen's character. He came across as more of a token character that was predominantly there to fill the role of Adrian's love interest. I think it was because of this that their relationship didn't feel quite organic to me, and as a result, I struggled to become really invested in them. That being said, I did love Adrian's quirkiness, sassiness, and flamboyance. He was a lot of fun and had me laughing out loud on several occasions (even if I didn't always agree with his opinions).

3.5 rounded up to 4 stars. A short, cute (except for violent attack in the beginning) opposites attract romance. Our first MC is a New York caterer, delightfully quirky and effeminate (beautifully written by author Locey). Our other MC is the police officer that came to his rescue after a horrible attack in a Brooklyn park. Our caterer is a tall white queen, our policeman is a shorter black dedicated cop but this story made those differences totally irrelevant (probably shouldn't even mention it).

Our caterer was physically and emotionally injured by the attack. Our policeman was understanding, noble and lovely in helping him regain his life and find happiness. A wonderful little read.

Reserved is a wonderful addition to the Tales of Bryant series. I fell in love with Adrian, in all his glory! His quirky, sassy personality will win anyone over. It certainly won Galen's heart.
While this tale certainly has a bit more angst in it than the others, it is beautifully written and will capture your emotions. I defy anyone to not fall in love with Captain Octavius Crumpet, Tavi for short, Adrian’s little spoiled little doggie! He stole the show!!!!! I can't wait for more tales in the series!

This one was cute.. Adrian is a tall glass of dynamite.. He never really worried about living life as a gay man in NYC but when he gets attacked his world is turned upside down. He is terrified of being alone.. .His knight in shining armor is police officer Galen.. Galen not only comes to his rescue with the crime, he gives him security. When Galen insists he stays with him until he is recovered will Adrian leave when he is? I mean after all Galen lives in Brooklyn ..LOL

"MY BLUE ANGEL"

I thought Officer Galen was a gentleman and perfect for Adrian. I like how Adrian talked and his vivacious personality.

I did think there would be more time on Adrian’s part to heal after his attack. I felt like he recovered quite quickly even with the help of his “BLUE ANGEL”. It didn’t stop my enjoyment of the story though, and I’m glad the two men found each other.

I've been looking forward to Adrian's story, but was disappointed because I felt the dialogue was forced and I couldn't connect with his character. Maybe it was because I couldn't visualize what Adrian looked like as I was reading the story? I'm not exactly sure, but sadly this one wasn't for me. The intimacy between Adrian and Galen was tender and romantic though, so I'll give this story another try down the road.

Well, To say Adrian Pontimore is a unique character is to say nothing at all. The author did a great job of creating a diva and telling the story with a flourish worthy his Duke-like mannerisms.
The story itself is not overly complicated, but wholesome and entertaining. Not devoid of drama, but served with great words and a very Adrian-like flair!

What can you say, Adrian? He's flamboyant, funny, smart, a great entrepreneur, sweet and his freedom to be himself was taken from him after he was mugged. Galen is a cop who he met previously and came to his rescue that night. Their story is sweet, romantic, and like a fairytale. I truly enjoyed all the characters, especially Luis and Adrian's pom.

Storyline was good, however, dialog for main character was simply not believable even as a flaming queen. There is over the top and then there is "over the top" and the authors dialog for the main character was so over the top it wasn't even in this universe and rather than making the character charming just made them ridiculous for no good reason.

Adrian was such a unique character that his presence kind of overshadowed poor Galen. This book felt like a reimagined fairy tale with a damsel in distress who found her protective prince. Really cute.
