For historical fiction readers, homeschool parents, reluctant readers, action & adventure readers--my novel Night of the Cossack is for you.

I started writing poetry at the age of 14. My hope was they would be used as lryics by rock and roll singers such as Elvis Presley, Paul Anka and others, but this never happened. I continued to write, but not seriously until I was nearly 30. I wrote nonfiction most of my adult life with articles being published in a denominational magazine and business publications. I self-published a book, Behind the Scenes of the Bus Ministry, in 1974. In 2009, Barbour Publishing Co published a devotional journal, The Great Adventure, which I co-authored with fourteen other writers. In April, 2011, by historical novel, Night of the Cossack, was published by Bound by Faith Publishers.
Tom Blubaugh was raised in a small town in southeast Kansas. He began writing poetry at age fourteen, but has written nonfiction most of his adult life. Tom has been a self-employed entrepreneur since 1973, self-published his first book, Behind the Scenes of the Bus Ministry, in 1974, and wrote articles for various magazines from 1975 through 1995. Bound by Faith Publishers published his first novel, Night of the Cossack, in April, 2011. Tom has been a public speaker for over forty years, and is currently a Literary Strategist working one-on-one with authors and writers in all aspects of the publishing arena, social media, brand building, and book marketing. In Thoughts for Deep Thinkers and Curious Space Travelers: Living Lessons God Taught Me, Blubaugh draws from his experiences with an alcoholic parent, sexual abuse as a child, business failure, homelessness, depression, and counseling others, to offer advice and suggestions on how to have a blessed life and please God. He says that life’s lessons are hard to acquire because mostly we learn through the school of Hard Knocks, especially if we are a bit stubborn. Tom is no exception, but he did learn, and in this book he shares some of the most important living lessons that God ever taught him with his readers. As with any work written by fallible human beings, some people from different religious backgrounds may not always necessarily agree with all the theological implications underlying what is written. However, putting such differences aside, there is a lot of practical information to be found within its pages. I find it difficult to categorize the book. It is biographical, in that it is based on Blumbaugh’s life, but it isn’t strictly a biography. I guess that I would call it a series of essays that cover a number of topics, from awe over God's creation to living honestly with God to great ways to save money and other useful living wisdom. It certainly lives up to its title, “Thoughts for Deep Thinkers.”
I greatly enjoyed reading Tom Blubaugh’s experiences and his insightfulness into life with a relationship with God. There was much I could relate to and food for thought as well. Tom’s sometimes very unique way of explaining things was very interesting. This is a feel good book and no matter where you’re at in your walk with God, this book will teach you and uplift you.
Having read and thoroughly enjoyed Tom Blubaugh's 'Night of the Cossack', I was expecting good things from this one, and I wasn't disappointed. It is, however, a far cry from the historical fiction (based on a true story) of the previous book. It's a collection of thoughts, experiences, and indeed, advice for the the reader.
It's a very spiritual book as you would expect from a devout Christian. Blubaugh's life has been full of trauma and strife, but ultimately, joy from the certainty of his faith. The book gives a an insight into the workings of a deep thinking, spiritual man who has a message that we all need to hear. You don't have to agree with him, but I definitely recommend giving his views some thought. The story of how he coped with his experiences may well help those going through the same things today.
I have to say that when I turned the last page I let out a thoughtful sigh. I don't agree with everything he says - some of my interpretation of Scripture is very different - but he made me examine my beliefs. He made me step back and justify them to myself. Why do I believe what I believe? Are they my beliefs or have I adopted them from somebody else?
All in all this is a fabulous journey into the heart and mind of a genuine Christian who has a story that's there for even a hardened atheist to hear. Highly recommended.
