One Bone at a Time: Tales of an Adventurous Animal Chiropractor, chronicles veterinarian Dr. Alison Seely’s journey from marine biologist to animal chiropractor. With humorous and often self-effacing candour, Dr. Seely describes the remarkable and often surprising results of adjusting her four-legged patients. Interwoven between the animal tales are anecdotes of how she, and her chiropractor husband Kevin, juggled busy practices while raising three children, along with horses and dogs, on their beautiful acreage in the Ottawa Valley. Despite her busy life, she manages to still find time to express her passion for fitness and adventure, completing ten Ironman triathlons, fifteen marathons, and a series of unique and gruelling Canadian winter competitions. When a series of freak accidents derail her ability to practise and play, she rallies through self-directed rehab and regular adjustments from the ever-supportive Kevin, and is ultimately able to return to the profession she loves, and compete in triathlons once again.
Full disclosure... I bought this book to support Alison who has always been an inspiration. And the book certainly didn’t disappoint. Completely captivating and motivating! Tears, laughs, suspense... it has it all!
A rollicking read about the adventures of an athletic Canadian animal chiropractor. I loved this book. Seely is unapologetically smart and lives her life with a strength, grit, self assuredness and confidence that champions a "can do" fearlessness. She takes up space, lives life large and out loud. She is a role model for all women, especially our Gen Z's.
As a voracious reader and hater of the way women are so often portrayed in books and on Netflix as weak, trivial, romantic and vulnerable, One Bone at a Time is a refreshing call to all women to live life with exuberance, bravery and vitality. IMHO this book would make an awesome Limited Series with Rosamund Pike playing Alison Seely :) Read it.
