The way of Jesus for the renewal of the city is our church's mission statement at Church of the City New York. In this book, the second in our Foundations Series, Senior Pastor Jon Tyson and Teaching Pastor Suzy Silk unpack the Biblical framework for our belief that the way of Jesus empowers people everywhere to join God in bringing renewal to our workplaces, families, and neighborhoods. Each chapter contains an "action" section to help you process and apply what you have just read to your daily life as you learn to walk with Jesus in increasing levels of intimacy. As you read this book, we encourage you to do this with others. Join a book club, a community group, or a few friends over coffee each week and discuss the questions in the Group Guide at the back of the book. Our prayer is that this book will equip you and people everywhere to seek His face and to cry out for renewal and Spirit-empowered revival in our communities, in our time.
Jon Tyson is a pastor and church planter in New York City. Originally from Adelaide, Australia, Jon moved to the United States over two decades ago with a passion to seek and cultivate renewal in the Western Church. He is the author of Sacred Roots, A Creative Minority, and The Burden Is Light. He serves as the lead pastor of Church of the City New York.
Excellent resource for teaching practices and highlighting implications of the gospel beyond substitutionary atonement (Spiritual, Social, and Cultural Renewal).
Great book on some pretty basic aspects of what it means to follow Christ in today’s culture. This book was written by two pastors who have an obvious love for scriptures and their congregation.. as these pages are essentially an exploration of Churches vision statement. It’s so good!
The Church of the City of New York unpacks their philosophy of ministry in this book. This is the second book as the first book unpacked their church core values. Reading through this book brought to light why this church has been able to make such an impact for Christ in NYC. This book is worth going through as a church staff, especially as many churches think through ministry strategy during and post Covid-19.
Read this over the semester with my discipler! I’d say it’s maybe a 3.5… lots of good really good nuggets and takeaways but not my favorite thing I’ve ever read either!
