Dave and Pam Richter continue their race against time and the plague sweeping through their home state. They’ve watched enough horror movies to know it won’t take long before its tendrils reach past the imaginary borders, infecting the rest of the country, and possibly the world.
Despite their efforts, they continue to face one delay after another in their struggle to lead their family to safety. Their destination lays 2,500 miles away and will set their backs to the Pacific Ocean. But they’re discovering the virus turning the population into flesh eating monsters, isn’t the only threat they’re facing.
The military troops sent to contain the outbreak, led by Major Carolyn Brooks, are unprepared for the new, pack-like instincts, cooking in the brains of the infected. Now the government may be forced to initiate drastic measures in an effort to burn away all traces of the virusite from the face of the earth, before it’s too late.
R.K. Gleason was born in Grand Island, Nebraska in 196-something. He grew up, and spent most of his adult life living in Seattle. In late 1999, he met the love of his life, left his home in Seattle and moved to Ohio. Currently, R.K. lives in Columbus, Ohio with his best friend, and gorgeous wife, Petra. They have four children, currently two grandchildren, and ABSOLTELY no pets.
While R.K. grew up with a naturally vivid imagination, although his friends might argue some of it was self-induced, he seldom put his thoughts to paper. At the age of forty-eight, after the inspiration came to him in a dream, he began his first novel. On that day, The Truth Death and The Michele Shepard Series came to life.
You have no idea how bad I want to drop the F bomb while writing this review. RK seems to really bring it out in me, haha! This story is what happens when the situation goes from UPPERCASE to PROPER. This is super intense from beginning to end and it wasn’t until the end that I could finally take a deep breathe.
Dave and Pam are still working on getting the family together and back on the road but they are in the thick of it when the mail woman tries to eat Dave! Gah! Soooooo intense! But a little spoiler, Dave makes it and the mailwoman doesn’t….Ha!
Major Brooks has her troops on the ground and going into the area to “contain” the virus. Little do they know the zombies are evolving a bit and have laid a trap. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the zombies are here and getting smarter!
This is a series of novellas so it’s a quick and fast read. I have read several of RK’s books and have been surprised by something in each book whether it’s something off color or off the wall, things that made me stop and try and figure out what the hell it is that I am reading. It’s part of what I love about this series. These are sarcastic people in a blended family that aren’t afraid of speaking their mind. At this point in the review you should stop reading what I have to say and go read the f’n book!
This is the second book in this brilliant series. Told from alternating points of view. On one side is the government desperately trying to carry out damage control by whatever means necessary. On the other side Dave and Pam are desperately trying to survive. They manage to reach Pam's parents house but there is a surprise waiting and quite a bit of gore. Their gang grows as more family members arrive at the house and plans are made to travel west to reach their daughter. I love these characters and their interactions. It's a fast paced story full of horror, action and humour. I can imagine this is exactly how my family would be if faced with a zombie apocalypse.
Dave and Pam are the best husband and wife ever. I love them and their kids. They are so down to earth and relatable, I just love it.
Proper takes place immediately after Uppercase. Each word draws you in. RK did a wonderful job painting a picture with his words. I was able to imagine myself being right there. Truly amazing. I can't wait to start Mean.
The Zombies are getting smarter.... the military haven't a clue ... the world is up for grabs.... Dave, Pam and family are trying like hell to survive.... Can't wait for the next one!
