Oh my goodness, what a wild ride! I think this was the book that not only kept me on the edge of the chair, but also going Yes! No! OMG! Are you for real???? NOOOOO! YESYESYES! I'm Going To Have a Heart Attack!
Seriously, this was a roller coaster ride. The final in the series, everyone is fighting for their lives, the zombies are at their feet, and things keep happening to the cure, the vaccines, the groups trying to deliver/retrieve/bring back - it's just non-stop. A I even got a lump in the throat at the end with one particular scene.
Awesome finish for an awesome series.

An average ending for a story that began as exceptional. I was hoping for a more powerful close.

I loved the beginning of this storyline with the first four to five books being outstanding and then the storyline became a bit redundant and over the top (if possible for a story of this type). I really enjoyed the action and the military influence in the earlier books but the later books seemed to lack the same crisp writing and meaningful military detail and storyline engagement. Some of the characters went way off the deep end toward the closing of the story (especially Fick). What happened to exceptional characters like Dugan and Maximum Bob? Maybe some writer's fatigue set in as this was a long story. Overall, this was an enjoyable story that maybe could have ended much stronger at about seven to eight books. Thank you.

Now that I'm done crying....

Wow, that was a rollercoaster! And, imagine how happy I was to find the author loves Linkin Park and Jay-Z as much as I do 😊 The "Ficksisms" need to have their own book....hint, hint. I still want to have all of his babies, too bad he's not real.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for the blood, sweat, and tears you expended over this crazy ride called ARISEN!

BAD TO THE BONE TILL THE END IT IS......

Hello, this story, actually more like an epic journey, was absolutely amazing from the first to the last. I really hate to see the characters go as I feel like I've been following them for years. Never could I have imagined the depth and breadth of this masterpiece. Damn good stuff. Thanks.

Phenomenal! Of Course.......

The very best, #1 military zombie apocalypse series in the genre.

I can’t keep up with reading every old and new book and all the series in the genre, but over the past five years, I’ve sure been trying my best in devouring 3-5 books per week. More if I sleep even less. But my family prefers to see me during SOME daylight hours.....

That said - as you all know, as EVERYONE knows, this series is an absolute winner in every way. From the characters and masterful storytelling to the deep, well-researched knowledge on every subject touched upon. The emotional journey is rich- highs and lows and everything in between, including wake people up next to you humor. The scene setting puts you smack in the middle of the non-stop action. In the case of this book, the mud, rain, darkness, palpable death and dying all around you, smell of it all (wet earth, blood, sweat, fear, adrenaline, cordite, endless zombie horde), and the close-up and and distant sounds of the never ending battle.

This part of the larger story/this book is especially full of reunions, loss, incredible heroism, hard choices made through the lens of duty, and the ultimate cost of such choices. The positives, and the more difficult to shoulder. The personal emotions that go along with all of the aforementioned.

What I really appreciate is this far along into the tale is that the zombies still remain in the forefront. I mean, it IS a “zombie” story after all, yes? Not only this but they are still fresh (well, not exactly “fresh” ;) and interesting. They, themselves, are a character. I suppose the zombies and runners would be one character, and the Foxtrots another. Regardless, many, many authors cannot seem to manage this. They start off great, but by the 3rd or even the best ones -5th book, they can’t seem to be creative enough to keep the zombies up front any longer, while still maintaining a fast-paced, creative and interesting story. What always happens is .... the poor zombies .... fade into the background. Nothing changes with the plot to make them less of a threat, mind you. Simply, suddenly, by book #whatever, there are only bare mentions of “zombies continually banging on the walls” and maybe one or two unexciting zombie interactions the whole book.

Allllll that said. Not here. And never within the Arise series. It’s a breath of fresh air. It’s thrilling, exciting, masterful, and surprising right up until the very last paragraphs. In every way, including the characters, the zombies.

I’d like to add that I am honestly shocked, completely blown away, by a few turn of events in this story. Never saw them coming. One, I’d like to reach in and rewrite if I could. I still cannot seem to shake it. I bet it will always stick with me, my literary self.

Special nod to the Gurkhas! Da*n, I LOVE these guys!!! So much I actually researched them. Their presence within this story — well, it absolutely made it.

The sun is rising here as it is in London (whether it’s been won or lost, not for me to say ;). I hear there’s still more to read in this story? That this really isn’t the end? I’ve got to go research that now! As Handon, Fick, Pred, Juice, Henno, Ali, Homer, Sarah, Park, Wes, Jamison, Noise, Oleg, Charlotte, Kate, Baxter, Em, Amire, Josie, Elliot, Aiden, Luke, Martin, Judy, and on and on (I’m forgetting everyone!!) are part of my family too now. I can never quite seem to get this crew out of the back of my mind....

Thank you, Michael Fuchs.
You’re truly a genius within your craft. You make so very many people happy!!

Finally, the end of this runaway freight train of a series!

A few of my thoughts on the entire series, not just this book.

Thoroughly enjoyable story with plenty of well-written, frantic action scenes, tragedy, gore, horror, thriller aspects and also acts of humanity.

Also being a South African, it was great to see some important action taking place down on our coast and the operation even being called "Biltong"!

I really don't have too many gripes with this series except the below:

- The writing can be too military infused with plenty of in-depth (and accurate) descriptions of military equipment, considering probably 90% of scenes where a character even picks up a gun - it is described quite in-depth. This, as well the constant praise (at least a few times a chapter) of Special Operators, can become monotonous and annoying. To me, this gripe is by no means meant to detract from the work that military units undertake - merely that quite a bucket load of words are used to describe Operators. I do know that Mr Fuchs is a massive fan and supporter of Operators, so we'll give him that.

- By far my personal greatest issue with this book is the constant usage of the name "Jesus Christ" in vain. In many forms His name is used loosely, or with utterly crude and blasphemous words in between (especially from Gunny Fick). Personally, this is utterly reprehensible and unacceptable. Whatever the author's beliefs are - he has no right to blaspheme this way - considering he doesn't do it using other deities or names.

- This is more of an annoyance but it's noticeable early on that whatever can go wrong, does go wrong even when the odds are quite high of such a situation not occurring. I take it this is down just to add more drama (sometimes more than necessary) and to make the Operators/combatants out to be further above the average person than they already are. Coupled with some downright atrocious command decisions that one would not logically expect from seasoned military veterans of the highest tiers. These points in the story actually bring the characters down to earth, and not in a good manner.

At the end of the day, it was a fairly satisfying ending albeit one that wasn't surprising in the least.

Simon Park finally produced the long-awaited antidote. He initially produced enough to immunize the remaining members of Team Alpha and the Royal Marines. Aliyev, the Russian Cossack scientist who claims he can create a virus to kill the zombies, was culturing the cells needed to produce said virus, but it was an agonizingly slow process. The problem was how to deploy it, not enough material for an aerosol method, and no one was going to inject individual zombies. The innovative method they came up with was paintball guns! There were problems with this method as well. Park, Aliyev, and The Team plotted and schemed to come up with a workable, and more importantly, a successful plan to inoculate the zombies and spread the killer virus. Throughout the story, the zombie hoard continued to assault Cent-Comm. No matter how many they killed, by whatever method, the dead kept coming. The killer virus appeared to work on the shamblers but the fastest runners, the Foxtrots were different, they needed something else. There must be a way to get this done. There had to be a way to save mankind and The Team would find the way. The concluding chapters are a thrilling and inspiring battle to the death. Ammo exhausted, knives, bayonets, swords, and hand-to-hand fighting ensued. Would they still be able to do what must be done? This is such a great series, if not the best in the genre, at least in the top three.

Good, but how Handen is just gonna move on after losing someone who meant so much to him was kind of jarring. And it did get to be a bit annoying how perfect Allie was at everything. But great series, sorry to see it end, but some people did state correctly that it shouldve been like 3 books shorter.

Also one more nitpick: I have almost no idea what 80% of the operators look like. Melchiorri of the Tide series also does this- I dont know if its an oversight or just not wanting to describe people, but yeah I didnt even know Allie was of African origin or black til halfway through the book. It doesnt matter, but it helps envision the characters and world build a bit.

This series started out as an interesting story, mixed with interesting details and character development and then unravelled into the "I like big guns" version of DUMB WAYS TO DIE

I had to skip huge chunks by the end of this as I am just not that engaged in paragraph after paragraph of overly sensationalised physical activity by big dude.... really big dude... just in case you didn't read it the first 26 times its written again... big dude....followed by epic disaster after epic disaster..... book after book......

Great read but slightly disappointed

Really good read and action was fantastic but felt a bit let down by ending in that it was all the fighting and then a bit meh! What happend to the world after, how did civilisation rebuild, was the whole country really gone. Any survivors in other parts of Britain, how quickly did the cure spread? Wonderful characterizations though which in the end kept me reading through endless battle scenes.

O. M. G.! What can I say.. When I started this series, I wasn't sure I was going to last the whole way, and some of my previous reviews are critical of this. I didn't like the fact that only one or two days happened in the book, and it was what felt like padded extra writing that didn't need to be there..

I was wrong! I've held off reading Books 13 and 14, because I knew this was the end of the series, and the books leading up to these two have been getting better and better with each book. I read the two one after the other, and even after Book 13, I thought, can this get better? or will I end up hating the ending? Well, I can tell you now, it sure as hell DID get better! The action is furious, every time something goes right, something else goes horribly wrong, but through it all, I always expected the main characters to live, and survive..

Until, suddenly, just like that, they didn't.. One of the many main characters, apart from Alpha team, gets killed, defending another of the main characters, and I suddenly got worried that maybe even Alpha might not survive. And it's a testament to the author that he made me feel this way, because I WAS so invested in the characters, and their survival.

Centcom is under siege, from the zombies. Alpha team must somehow, find a way to not only keep them at bay, but also to find the equipment they need to deliver the cure to humanity, and the disease to kill the zombies to them. Bolstered by Ghurkas, Royal Marines, USOC operators, and another couple of groups of soldiers, the defence looks like it may still get overrun, but Simon and Oleg work out that the Foxtrot zombies can be weaponised to infect the other zombies, and it all comes down to 60 rounds of zombie-infecting ammo, fired by a Para sharpshooter that doesn't want the responsibility, but has an epiphany as he watches Alpha defend him from the zombies as they finally overrun the survivors for what might be the last time.

In the end, the zombies are beaten, destroyed by the anti-zombie plague developed by Oleg, and the ragged group of survivors watch the sun rise on not just the morning of a new day, but a new age in the history of humanity.

It has been a long trip. I've read all 14 of the Awaken books, plus two side books. I have to say I have enjoyed them all. This has been a very imaginative series, starring with the cause of the Zombie apocalypse, the hargeisa virus, designed by a Kazakh scientist for a terrorist group. The scientist is introduced around book 10. In the meantime, we are introduced to Alpha team, USOC, elite RMP outfits, tankers, airmen, biologists, Spetnatz crazies, and the tunnellers, a group who survived a barricaded Channel.

But I digress. The world has fallen, humanity routed, Britain now literally an island fortress. There is one nuclear aircraft carrier left, and a Central Command in London. All they have to do is defend Britain from the encroaching hordes, rescue a scientist in overrun Chicago, retrieve a crucial piece of equipment In Duesseldorf, obtain a patient zero zombie in Somalia, defend yourself from the last Russian attack ship and said Spetnatz, and fend off both a radical Christian insurgent group attempting to take over the carrier after they ground it and the resultant 10millin zombies now headed for it.

THIS book is the endgame, England and London are overrun, and the last stand is at CentComm while several elite groups are racing against time to get the equipment and drugs necessary to formulate a virus and a zombie plague.

Got it? Really like the authors style, good thing, this is an 800+ page book. The settings a plausible, we'll as plausible as a ZA gets (anyone really think this sis going to happen?) and the characters are great. I loved Predator and Juice, massive SpecOps guys with a human side, master gunners sergeant Fick, pilot "Hurricane" Haley Wells, and most of all Aly, the sharpshooter/part ninja who showcased her sheer badassery. They all have backstories and human sides, and your like and get attached to them.

And they die. Fuchs is not afraid to off characters to advance the plot, and in 14 books a lot do. Because there seems to be one rule in the ZA. No matter what, if something can go wrong, it.will.go.wrong.......

I've heard this particular book as "the best ending to a series I've ever read." I'm not sure I agree with that. I've read a lot of books, a lot of series, and while I think this is excellent, it's not the best I've ever read.

But it's all subjective. I base my opinions on my emotional reaction to the story. There are characters in this one that died and I'd rather other characters had died. There's a lot that happens in this plot that seems pointless - and yet if it were real life, it would probably happen in much the same way. Whatever can go wrong usually does. Regardless, it makes for good fiction.

This is certainly one of the most suspenseful series I've ever read. Fuchs has you on the edge of your seat, holding your breath, inwardly declaring "no no no no no no!" over and over again. There is no trusting that our heroes will be ok because nobody's safe. This author isn't afraid to kill off the characters he's brought us to love.

I wish there had been more closure on a couple of fronts - let's just say on the sea and in the far east. But I'm sure Fuchs was thinking that there can be a lot that happens in this world, so doing a spin-off series that covers events happening during the British siege and after has a lot of potential.

So overall, I'm really glad I read this series and in particular this book. It was long, but I would have been happy if it had been longer. I'm sad to leave this broken, horrible world because I'm sad to leave these characters. I highly recommend you come to love them too.

And none of this would be the same if not for narrator RC Bray. There's no way I could have picked up the actual print book and kept going for 13 books, especially this last one. Bray makes it come alive, playing out like a movie in my head. These days when I look for a new book, I generally look at narrators first. RC Bray is at the top of my list.

I can't believe how long it took me to read this book. On the one hand, I sorely wanted to know how it ends. On the other hand, I never wanted to finish!

Lots of action, somewhat repetitive, and even though I thought I would skim, I didn't. Very engrossing. And a very fitting end to the series, though I must say the last few pages of the book did seem quite rushed.

One of my favorite things about this series is that it is the only one in the ZA genre that does not focus on men subjugating women. At some point, you can expect that but when you are fighting friggin millions of zombies, there are other things on your mind. Everyone has to do their job and play to their strengths. And I think this is why the series works. You have a lot of BAMF, male and female, with almost superhero like powers, but let's face it: they'll probably be the ones who have the best chance to survive, right?

Fick was hilarious as usual. Ali got on my nerves a few times (maybe there are no obligatory rape scenes, but all male writers seem to think women hate other strong women or other women in a man's world for some reason - as a female in the engineering world, I can assure you this is not the case, at least not all the time, and is usually quite the opposite. I was going to go on a rant about her, but she ended up ok). I was glad to see the reappearance of characters who haven't been on scene in a while. The deaths that occurred were somewhat fitting.

Now, I have to start back at the beginning because with so many characters and locations, it was sometimes hard to keep up and you had to just go with it. Now, I'd like to see them all grow.

R LAST BOOK IN ONE AMAZING SERIES, THAT EVEN KNOWING IT WAS THE END, I HOPED IT WOULD STILL GO ON.

With the rest of what's left of humanity on the line, Dr. Park and Aliyev the Kazakh are doing all they can to do try to save the last of the human race, but even with patient zero in their midst, it's not as easy as they thought it would be, as every minute that passes is that much closer to human extinction. With everyone all together in this last place for them on Earth, lives are thrown together and for some even reunited, while others will just almost make it, then not even to the end. The last book in this one amazing series grabs you from the get go and even as you get closer to the final page, you find yourself wishing for just one more book in the series, as your hoping just a little longer. At least, that was me, coming to the end of this one and praying Michael Stephen Fuchs will have a surprise at the end, like maybe with just one more book in the series to be written. But from the looks of it, that doesn't seem to be so. This one series had me from the beginning all the way with Book #1 and it never stopped through each and every book. This is one series I will definitely plan on reading again in the future and one I'm more than happy recommending to anyone who asks what good series is out there available to read, one with some awesome characters and many, many walking dead. I loved this series from the get go and am terribly sad 😢😭 that this is the end, but what a way for this to end.

Ridiculous, over the top, idiotic and crazy but somehow completely addictive and totally enjoyable. As I was reading this and as more and more stupid coincidences, ironic accidents or last minute saviours kept happening I was thinking "just enjoy it, stop overthinking" but I couldnt turn off my brain arguing that it was just ridiculous.
If there was a way to turn your intelligence level or rational thinking down then set it to about 50% as you would enjoy this book and the whole series so much more but even if you can't you will enjoy it.
There werent any twists at all, this is 1 straight line ride from start to finish, all of the heroes are totally heroic with no dark sides to their character, all of the villains are completely evil and whos motives for wanting to stop the people fighting the zombie apocalypse are never explained. I'm sure the author has heard of Checkhov's gun as if anything is mentioned in this series no matter how incidental then it will play a pivotal role in the story.
Really I'm giving the series 5 stars not this particular book as although it was good it is also overlong, at times very repetitive, quite predictable and seems 2 dimensional.
The end of the book and the series is complete with everything wrapped up nicely and without loose ends. I dont want to be too harsh on this book and the series though as I did really enjoy it and loved most of the action sequences, the author really knows his military equipment and reminds me of a more exciting Tom Clancy writing about a zombie apocalypse.

Perfect!

I loved it. Every story line ended, some sadly, but the theme of love conquering evil was there at the end. Each character fought not for themselves but for the lives of those who fought beside them. I loved that Eli filled with doubt and anger was the one to fire the shots to save humanity. The action was non-stop, so I can imagine this was an exhausting book to write, but it was the perfect ending. I have loved this series since the beginning! Loved reading about all the characters, but especially Alpha team. Seeing Handon, Homer, Ali, Juice, and Predator, along with Fick save the world was amazing. All the characters became heroes and fought to save humanity. I was happy to finally see Wesley meet his family, and Ali let go of her past to embrace her love of Homer. There is sacrifice, but such a strong sense of humans who care about humanity all becoming heroes in this book that made the victory perfect! One of the best series in this genre! Thank you for sharing your talented writing with us!

We finally reach the end of the 'Arisen' road with 'End Game'. First thing you need to know – this is not a series of even vaguely stand alone novels, it is one huge Norse saga of the zombie apocalypse. Given the breadth of the subject, and the huge cast of characters it is remarkably well handled. Individuals are still individuals and keeping track of who's who is surprisingly easy, which is a testament to the author.
However, as you'd expect this isn't a reflective character piece, it's fast paced and gets faster and more frenetic the further you go into the books, but I think it is worth your time when you feel like an action book with a heart and, to be fair, inspite of the militaristic and action genre of the story it does engage the emotions much better than you would expect. The end solution is arguably a little contrived, but the author has been setting it up so it shouldn't be criticised too much.
It shouldn't need saying, but don't start this series in the middle, you will get lost very quickly.

The absolutely smashmouth ending the series deserves!

For six years I've lived in this ZA universe and book 14 ENDGAME did not disappoint. Michael's writing allowed me to care about the characters. As it looked each time that it was the end for said character I would become sad at their passing only to become joyous when they were impossibly saved. Even those who did fall I rooted for a way for them to rise again. I've never been so invested in fictional lives as I have in the ARISEN series.

I was able to visualize through each character's eyes what they were seeing. I was able to shoot every weapon, wield every sword, battle axe, baseball bat, and pneumatic punch due to Michael's writing. I felt my muscles coil when sheer strength was used. I felt the vibrations of the MA DEUCE make my hands and forearms go numb. I blinked when a foxtrot's saliva flew in my face.

It doesn't get any better than this folks. And Hope never dies.

So satisfying!

So far I've read the series twice, leading up to the last three books. I own some and read others on Kindle Unlimited, but I'm buying the whole set for myself to read all over again. This is not only one of the best military-focused zombie Apocalypse stories, but is also a fantastic motivational guide to living life like you mean it. I have fallen in love with the characters, and find myself thinking of them at random moments. I can't decide on a favorite, but even the bad guys are awesome. And, the humor is so good. My hubbie just shakes his head every time I bust out laughing, and asks what Fick or Predator said this time. The writing is excellent, engrossing and addictive. Thanks to these operators, Adapt and Overcome is my daily affirmation, applicable to every situation. Thank you so much, Michael, for dedicating yourself to making this series perfect! You deserve a vacation ☺

The final push to save humanity may be the last gasp of life falling forever.

But with Pred and Juice, Fick, Handon, Ali and Charlotte, the fight was never over. There were more infected than ever, but that just meant more opportunities. Park and Aliyev work themselves and their crew tirelessly preparing the cure to save the world, hoping desperately that they could complete their work before it was too late.

From Stronghold Britain to American cites, to Afghanistan and Somalia, to Moscow and London, through 14 books, Arisen has caught the imagination of it's readers. Following the operators through injury, healing and death, they never gave up. All the frayed relationships, all the determination to persevere, all the death and worse, all came to a brilliant conclusion!

I've found this marvelous series to be immensely entertaining and have no qualms about recommending it to you. I know you will love it as much as I have.

The end of a wild, exhausting ride

The last book in the recent series, felt like it was never going to end. This is not a bad thing, the action was continual and makes you feel worn as the soldiers themselves. This was the ride taken over several books. The operators went through so many different battles, so many different confrontations, so many losses of friends, family, and teammates. But in the end, each decided, individually, that they had something worth living for. What that seems to be his love. Little bit corny ending in that regard, but still a good story overall and one I would recommend. I think I want to re-read from the beginning without breaks so the characters stay fresh when I start each book. Fuchs is a great writer, whose other series’ I will read ASAP!

Hands Down THE Best ZA Series I’ve Ever Read!!

I’m 99% sure that I rated all 14 books with 5 stars. It really is that good. Not everyone survives until the end but given that the subject matter of the series is a potential extinction event it shouldn’t surprise anyone that not everyone survives.
I can’t emphasise enough how much it means to have those truly British scenes in the series. Pretty much anyone over the age of 40 in the UK knows who the Gurkhas are, and what they’re capable of. I’d hope that a lot of those under 40 know about them too.

There are so many people out there in the front line jobs who deserve our respect because they’ve earned it. May the ZA forever be a fantasy story, and if you want the best look no further.

This was the best one of them all. It put you through the wringer. Seriously. My husband had a good laugh over me out of nowhere exclaiming quite loudly “oh you fu**ing idiot,” tossing the kindle on the sofa and leaving the room in a snit. Of course I was back a few minutes later diving in again, but that’s what this book does to you. You’ll encounter a myriad of emotions - frustration, anger, angst, sadness, dismay, happiness, relief... Only for it to take another sharp twist into another sea of emotions.

Definitely a must read... but don’t skip the rest of the series. You’ll miss quite a bit if you haven’t read that first.

I don’t think that anything which I say about this book and the series as a whole, is adequate.

“Endgame” is “wow”, astounding, exciting, horrifying, breathtaking, beautiful, sad.....there is so much I could say. I had put off reading this instalment for a long time~not because I dislike the series~because I didn’t want the reach the conclusion, I didn’t want to see much loved characters die.

However, I couldn’t delay it any longer. Michael Fuchs does not disappoint. This was a brilliant end to an epic series. I was reading the end on my journey to work and I shed a few quiet tears.

I laughed so much at the things that Fick said.

This is in my top 5 Zombie Apocalypse series.
