A hot tub can be a great place to decompress—provided your tub toy isn't a Glock 9-millimeter. When Death Diva Jane discovers that Stu Ruskin has taken decompression a little too far, everyone assumes his sudden demise was self-inflicted. The result of a guilty conscience perhaps? After all, no one who knew Stu would describe him as a Boy Scout.

Jane begins to suspect murder when disturbing revelations come to light, involving a blood feud, secret recipes, and a (haunted?) bed-and-breakfast inn with a dark history going back to Colonial times.

As if a hot-tub homicide weren’t enough to deal with, Jane is more than a little conflicted about yummy bad boy Martin McAuliffe. All she really knows about the sexy bartender is that he has a mysterious past and is a darn good kisser. But hey, Sexy Beast approves of him, and when has Jane’s neurotic canine sidekick ever steered her wrong?

Pamela Burford comes from a funny family. You may take that any way you want. She was raised in a household that valued laughter above all, so of course the first thing she looked for in a husband was a sense of humor. Is it any wonder their grown kids are into stand-up comedy and improv? Oh, and here's another fun family fact: Pamela's identical twin sister, Patricia Ryan, aka P.B. Ryan, is also a published novelist. Patricia is the Good Twin, and yeah, Pamela knows what that makes her. But hey, Evil Twins have more fun.

It should come as no surprise that everything Pamela writes is infused with her own quirky brand of humor, from her feel-good contemporary romance and romantic suspense novels to her popular Jane Delaney mystery series, featuring snarky “Death Diva” Jane, her canine sidekick Sexy Beast, and a fun love triangle. Pamela's own beloved poodle, Murray, wants you to know that any similarities between himself and neurotic, high-strung Sexy Beast are purely coincidental.

Pamela is the proud founder and past president of Long Island Romance Writers. Her books have won awards and sold millions of copies, but what excites her most is hearing from readers. So swing by her website and say hi. And while you're there, don't forget to sign up for her newsletter. Not only will you learn about new releases and other fun stuff, but you'll receive a free ebook as her special thank-you.

I've loved the Jane Delaney mysteries since I first read Undertaking Irene over five years ago. With each new instalment, I've quickly devoured each one and Simmering Stu was no exception. The previous book, Preserving PeachesPreserving Peaches, ended with something that I'd been hoping for for a while. Simmering Stu picks up from where that book left off, which is exactly what I had been hoping for.
Jane yet again stumbles across a dead body, I have to say, I think that I'd start to avoid Jane if I happened to live nearby, for fear that she'd find another body or that I might become one myself. Jane, of course, starts to investigate the murder. I didn't manage to get there before her this time, but it was an enjoyable read all the same and I did my best to guess where things were going. Ultimately, I was happy with the conclusion, which is all that really matters in these things.
There are a few things I love about this series, one is the murder mystery element, another the humour and almost my favourite bit, the relationship between Jane and Martin. This book had more on that and I'm happy to say that Jane does seem to be following the route that I was hoping for. I can't wait to read the next book and see how things develop.
I love this series. Jane is a great character and her supporting cast (not forgetting dog Sexy Beast) are brilliant too. I hope that we don't have to wait for too long to get our hands on book 7.

I love this series. It’s got great characters and doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s the perfect summer beach read, which is exactly how I got to enjoy it today.

Simmering Stu follows the usual format of Jane coming across a dead body and unable to keep herself from meddling in the investigation only to nearly get herself killed when she discovers the murderer. Much like the others in the series, it’s pretty clear from early on that only two or three people are truly suspects. But Pamela Burford throws just enough twists to have you second guessing until the end.

Of course, the real reason to follow a series like this is to watch our main character develop and grow in her personal relationships. Not to mention get caught up with the goofy supporting characters that make up Jane’s community. This installment did a great job with both. Jane and Martin pick up almost immediately following the very end of the last book, Preserving Peaches. But Jane is second guessing the relationship. Honestly, I kinda wanted her to make “the padre” work a little harder. He’s been hot and cold and super secretive this whole series. While we finally get his explanation, I kinda felt it was pretty lame. I wonder if Burford is leaving the door open for more to come out in a later book. Please let there be more books! This had enough of a HFN ending for our main character, that the author could technically get away with ending the series here. But, there’s also so much more that could happen in this series. No doubt, those of us that have read all of them have lots of questions. Is Dom really giving up? Will Jane ever have a baby (her deepest desire?) Will Victor return to the US and try to rekindle? All of these things could be big hurdles for Jane and Martin to overcome. . . especially the baby, since Martin has been there, done that, and, as far as we know, doesn’t know how important it is to Jane. But Dom has promised her a complete willingness to try for a baby if they get back together.

A few new characters were introduced this time. I was happy for this, it breathed a little new life into the series, even if it meant a little less of some other characters.

It’s been a bit of a wait for this next installment in Pamela Burford’s Jane Delaney series, but it was worth every minute! This one has all the humor, quirky characters, and keeps-you-guessing plot twists that are the hallmark of the Death Diva books, and for me (spoiler alert!) a satisfying answer to the question of who Jane will end up choosing from her triangle of suitors. I just wish I had the willpower to read slower and make it last longer instead of gobbling it up in a single day. I already can’t wait for the next one!

Heartbreak and Hot tubs.

It's another exciting adventure of the Death Diva. A body in the B and B's hot tub leads Jane into a 350 year old family feud. The feud being over the recipe of an alcoholic punch from the 1660's.

Simmering Stu

Very interesting plot! Why use a silencer if your going to kill yourself? Be careful of hot tubs. Keep reading to the very end. Drinks for everyone!

Simmering Stu

Another great adventure of the Death Diva Jane Delaney. This one covers a rivalry of two families and stealing of recipes. A descendant of one is found murdered and Jane is caught up once again in putting all the pieces of the puzzle together. The reader will enjoy this one as well as the others.

Imagine being found, shot to death and seated in a heated jacuzzi! As the title of the book suggests, simmering.
I do so enjoy these books by Pamela Burford. Pure escapism I know, but the always leave me with a smile on my face.
