This is a charming, fun rhyming story about a boy finding a mouse in his room when it is cold outside. It is well-written and all about the quality of compassion. It would make a great present for someone. Highly recommend!
This is a very sweet story about a little boy who finds a mouse under this bed. It's very cold outside, so he befriends the little mouse. Then, he decides to build a mouse-sized house for his little house in his bedroom. It teaches kindness to little children, with fun rhyming.
The rhythms were adorable in this book. I downloaded the ebook and read it to my 4 year old nephew and he immediately fell in love. He wanted me to keep reading it, but after the third time in a row my voice couldn’t take anymore. So this will be shelved until tomorrow when I’m sure he’ll ask her it again.
What a cute little story. It explains perfectly why mice come in our houses when it is cold outside. I loved the solution that this little boy came up with to solve the cold mouse issue. Colorful and a good match for the storyline. This was a free download from the author. It did not affect my freely given review.
My son loved this book and specifically picked out the book based on the name. The rhyming and the story definitely contributed to I the engagement I believe. Overall it was a very cute story and age appropriate
There is no place for a mouse in the house, the mother says. But the boy had made friends with the mouse and offered it a place to stay! This cute story has made me think of everything we have not allowed our children to do. I hope this story educates the adults too! Interesting rhyming book too!
A fun way for younger children to learn important life lessons
A fun story with rhyming text and beautiful illustrations, (you can see photos on my Amazon UK review and on my blog, when it posts) which introduces children to the concept and importance of friendship, kindness, and generosity, even to something that’s different … in this case a cute little mouse!
This is rated for ages 3 — 8, and I agree with that. A good book for parents/caregivers to read to younger children, and for older kids to read themselves.
Some lines I loved …
‘But then I realized the sound was quite small. It just didn’t sound like a monster at all. So I summoned my courage and turned on the light. I took a deep breath and prepared for a fright.’

It's an entertaining, fun, and nice story. Shows empathy and kindness towards animals. It's great for a bedtime story. Young kids or kids at heart will enjoy.
Nicely written book about a mouse that hides under a boy‘s bed to get out of the cold and ends up staying indefinite. Nice rhyme, cute pictures, and adorable story.
4.5 stars for this cute rhyming book Pick it up soon and give it a look The story is simple, a story of kindness It starts with a scare and ends with a friendship
As I was lying in bed 1 night, I heard something under my bed. Could it be a monster? I go on the floor & pulled back the bedspread but there wasn’t any monster under my bed. It was a little wet shivering mouse who had come out of the rain. The young boy named him Oscar. What did the boy’s father & mother have to say? And then there is Mr. Whiskers (cat). What will become of Oscar?
I do not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing free books from publishers & authors. Therefore, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one.
A very awesome book cover, great hand drawn colored pictures & proper font & writing style. A very well written children’s (elementary age) rhyming family adventure (story book). It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters, settings, etc. to keep track of. This could also make another great children’s family adventure movie, an animated cartoon, or better yet a mini TV series. A very easy rating of 5 stars.

A House for A Mouse is a cute children's book about a young boy that finds a small mouse under his bed on a cold winter night. They make friends and after he talks to his parents they make A House for a Mouse, Oscar from a dollhouse. It rhymes, has appealing illustrations that my grandchildren liked. They asked to have the story reread, so I know they liked it.
When a young boy hears a strange noise under his bed, he wonders what monster might be lurking there. So, gathering his courage, he peeks under the bed and finds a tiny mouse named Oscar.
The mouse tells him he has no home, no family, and he came into the boy’s room to escape the wind and the rain. He’d been staying in the shed, but it was bitterly cold there.
The boy decides he is not afraid of the mouse and invites him to stay.
But what will happen to the little mouse when the boy’s mother and father find out about him? And what about Mr. Whiskers?

Written in rhyme, the young reader, ages three through eight, preschool through third grade. Delightful illustrations are bright and sure to capture the imagination of the young reader,
Just as the young boy in the story had empathy for the small mouse, young children reading this heartwarming tale will see how kindness and compassion can make a difference.
At bedtime a young boy hears a squeak from under the bed and thinks a monster is under his bed. He gathers his courage to peek and finds a mouse, Oscar. Oscar explains that it is cold and wet outside and he was looking for a dry warm place to stay. The boy thinks and makes a bed for Oscar. Next morning they wake and go down to the kitchen and make breakfast when his father comes into the room to find out what the noise is and finds a mouse. Will he let it stay or throw Oscar out?
I enjoyed this story. It is cute and imaginative. It is told in the first person point-of-view. I liked how the boy thinks things through. I also liked the role reversal between the parents as to who was scared and who was the mighty mouse hunter. The boy thinks outside the box to find a solution to Oscar's problem. The illustrations are adorable and colorful. This is perfect for your 2-6 year old.
I loved 'House for a Mouse.' It teaches children kindness, and how to be practical about it. Good strategy. The rhymes make for rollicking reading. The pictures are colourful and nicely drawn with a good story. Oscar is a cute little mouse and so is his human.
I didn't find errors that jarred the flow of reading. Everything struck me as quite professionally done. This book would probably appeal to all children under 10.
I see a colouring book offered at the end. I haven't tried the link yet but I plan to. Looking out for new releases by Lisette Starr!
A young boy, fearful of the sound of a monster under his bed, discovers a cold, wet, frightened mouse instead. Befriending the mouse, caring for it and defending it against his parents' desire to be rid of it, this story models compassion and kindness to young readers with their parents.
A few typos or a missing word distracted me in the initial reading. The brightly colored illustrations were a delight to the eye. I did not however purchase this book for our granddaughter who already begs to bring rolly-pollies, earth worms, fireflies, butterflies and all manner of other invertebrates to her bedroom at night.
Some grammatical errors, and a bit long for the intended audience- but a very cute book with a good rhyme schem e. However, as cute as the mouse is, I sorry about reading this to my daughter because occasionally we get mice in our house and have to get rid of them because letting them stay is unhygienic- and I worry my kid would be confused because the mouse is a friend in the story. I wish they had made him a house in the garden and explained that mice are cute, but they belong outside.
- This book is about a boy who thinks there was monsters under his bed but turns out to be a mouse. All the mouse wants is to have a warm and cozy place away from the storm.
-This book was great picture books as you read the book, the sentences are not long for students. Also, the pictures make a great connection with the sentences. It has great rhyming words for our little ones in elementary.
-This book can be used in an area like thinking place about helpers other in need. They can also learn about friendship, generosity, and kindness.
An adorable book. Teaches kindness and compassion.
A house for a mouse is an adorable book. My grandson loves this book. He asks me to read it at least once a week. It flows quite smoothly when u read it no tongue twisters like some have. Just download and read it then u will know what I mean. Children of all ages will love this book. It teaches them kindness and compassion. Something I think all children should learn when there young .
The story moral is great but I would prefer to tell it through another animal!
The story moral is great but I would prefer to tell it through another animal which is possible to stay with kids. Also, The story may be used to teach kids who got afraid of mice (may got it from to the parents fears) how such small creature is also having good motives to be in the house so no need to have phobia from them.
I love children’s books and how they can release the imagination! This one I got on Kindle‘s first reads for the month.
This is a very sweet story about a mouse who wants to live in the house. The sentences all rhyme and the story flows really smoothly. It was enjoyable just to read with the sentence cadence. The illustrations are delightful. I like how the story ended!
I got this story for the kids, then read it to myself for a quick bedtime story! I found it amusing and also a little lesson about consideration for animals - my family would've caught the mouse - snap! - in a trap! But the hero persuaded his folks to let the mouse stay in from the cold with quite a creative solution!
We decided on this book for bedtime tonight. It was my granddaughter’s turn to read and tell me what she thought. The pages were bright and colourful. They was plenty to talk about on each page and the mouse was cute. Emily (my granddaughter is 9 years old) said “if she was a mouse, she would love to live in this house instead of a cage.” A lovely book to read with or to young children.
Me and my daughter have enjoying reading your book. The illustrations were great. As animal lover,we like how the family have put away their fear and accept the mouse in their house. It shows kindness, acceptance of differences and living together have brought a happy ending
A small mouse is out in the cold, so he finds his way into a house. In a boy's bedroom he is discovered. He tells his sad story to the boy who agrees to let him stay. His parents aren't for the idea, but the boy convinces them to let him stay as long as he has a safe place to stay away from the cat.
