I have mix feeling towards Miss Christy's books. Abstract Love is beautiful. Purple Orchid is not. Engulfing Emma is just... plain. The moral story is good. Everything happens for a reason. Heck I live by this motto.
Somehow the plot of the story is trying to push a lot into the story. And every twist/ conflict is solved too easy without too much drama. And Emma... wow, she is very very confusing character. She has so many fears that I am confuse. I have a feeling she just creating these fears in her head so she can get attention from Brett. Brett on the other hand, now he is fine. I like his kindness. He is also a loving father to his son. I personally thinks he can have better woman than Emma.
Overall I credit this book to its moral message and Brett. The rest just don't work for me.
I was really unimpressed with Emma. Her hang ups were ridiculous and unfair. The reasons behind them kinda made sense but she made life so much difficult for everyone because of her thoughtless choices.
Overall, while I was really disappointed by this book (Evie was the saving grace!) I’m still a fan of this author and look forward to her next book
“Fear is no reason to forgo happiness.” Words to live by, but are easier said than done. Emma has been through a lot and has to overcome it. She thinks she doesn’t need another hero in her life, but Brett wants to be the one to change that. Brett and Emma are kindred spirits in my opinion. Samantha brings all the feels in this sweet and spicy conclusion to The Men on Fire series.
Engulfing Emma is the final book in Samantha Christy’s Men on Fire series. Lt. Brett Cash is a single dad who puts everything into his job as a fireman and his son. Until one fateful day when he meets Emma Lockhart and sparks fly from there. But Emma doesn’t want a hero. She wants “safe.” She doesn’t want to put her daughter through what she went through. But can she deny the connection, the chemistry, and damn all that dirty talk.
Get ready for all the hotness, drama, push n pull, a great storyline and a perfect ending.
Ok, so Samantha Christy has become one of my favorite authors since I randomly stumbled upon the 'The Perfect Game' Series on Kindle Unlimited. I have read every series she has released and I am totally not ashamed to admit it. There are so many things I like about her writing. At the very top has to be how all the series intertwine to a certain extent without you having to actually go back and read them in order to understand. The characters are brought into the story from previous books/series so it keeps them alive. It just makes me so happy to see them again even if they have little to no part in the book.
Anyways, back to this story. At about 42% I was absolutely positive that this book has to be my favorite book Samantha Christy has ever written. It was written soo well. The characters are a little different then people would like, but in my opinion that's what makes this story so great. They are dealing with their own shit in their own way. There is no rule that us as people have to follow. If every book has a strong and stable female and male character then I would have stopped reading after my second book. The characters in this book.. all her books actually.. are sooooo well thought out it's amazing. Its so easy to fall in love them regardless of their unlikable qualities. All romance novels are pretty much predictable so why not go for the ones that are so greatly written?
"But the last thing I want or need is another hero in my life."
Emma Lockhart is a child of a 9/11 hero. He was a firefighter who dedicated his life to helping others. She has major issues that she refuses to deal with or even see as issues. She is a single mother to 11-year old Evelyn or as she goes by:Evie. On the last day of school she gets stuck in a tough situation that is easily the worse day of her life and meets the lovely Brett Cash.
“Cash is most definitely hot for teacher,” Cameron says.
Brett Cash is oddly enough also a child of a 9/11 hero. His mother was a nurse who worked close to the towers and ran inside to help. He is a father to a two year old and recently divorced. He is almost too good to be true. He is a true alpha, but isn't afraid to get in his feels when things don't go how he wants.
“Can I give you a piece of advice?” she asks. I try not to laugh at this twelve-year-old girl trying to impart her wisdom to me. “Sure.”
Evelyn Lockheart aka Evie is an absolute sweetheart and the winner in this book! I loved her sass and just all around personality.
Sex scenes were amazong and boy they were not lacking at all in this book. The only thing I wish they had more of was time together as a family or maybe a little more scenes with Leo and Emma. Maybe even have Leo there in that final chapter and be part of that very important moment.. it was kinda like him and Bonnie were forgotten.
I honestly didn't think I was going to like the 'Men on Fire' Series as much as I did.. I am so excited to see whats next I didn't possibly think Samantha Christy could continue beyond this book and intertwine another series, but boy was I wrong. Can't wait to see what happens with Bria.
I was going to give this a terrible rating then I thought to myself, if an author can invoke me enough to despise a character as much as I did Emma, then it deserves a better rating.
The entire story I could not stand Emma's character and felt Brett deserved so much better. Emma only allowed sex with Brett but no dating but then she goes out on dates (many) with other men. When she sees Brett's ex kissing him though it wasn't what she thought after he explains it to her, she gets mad at him and is jealous but it's ok for her to kiss many men
Ummm... pot meet kettle...same friggin color. Man I hated her character so much. She was so rude to him all the time...it was almost abusive to me. He continues to allow her to use him like a door mat. He has no self worth due to his treatment from his ex and now her. I felt horrible for him.
She accepts a second date with another guy at the same time suggests for Brett to go to Germany with her and her daughter...did I seriously just read that...then she asked why he is mad at her...she can't be this stupid.
The way she treats him is so horrible that I have a hard time finishing this book...ugh...if I read she can't be together with him one more time I think I'm going to pull my hair out...enough already...now its just stupid same old shit different day...could have been more inventive.
I truly understand her history with her father and certainly can emphasize with her as I too was affected by that day. However, I felt it was over the top and caught myself rolling my eyes way too much...I would have rather read Brett's POV than hers. I tended to skip over many of her POV as I was over the repetition.
I would have never given her any other chances...this would be a HEA if Brett was with a better more mature woman than her...terrible ending in my opinion.
Emma is the child of a 9/11 firefighter who died that day. She’s also caught in a hostage situation. To her rescue comes Brett, FDNY and child of mother killed on 9/11, too. Both are single parents and have issues. Brett if recovering from a divorce from a woman who decided after their son was born hat she did not want a child, family, husband, marriage. Emma was pregnant at 15 and abandoned by the father of her child. Now at 27, she has fears and anxiety that affect all her life choices, including not forgiving her father for choosing rescuing people over his family.
So, what’s wrong with this story? ** Spoilers ahead. ** -Emma has serious issues but no therapy is mentioned. Maybe that would have helped with her abandonment/anger issues. -Brett is a bit of a doormat (his own description) for Emma trying to please her. -Most of the story was predictable with few story twists. -People don’t need constant tragedy to make life choices. -Emma was just not a likable character for 95% of the story and Brett was too good to be true.
So, if you like a predictable romance, you’ll love this book.
Wow!!!!...... what a way to finish the Men on Fire Series. This sure is Samantha at her best.
We have met Brett Cash over the last few books, all becoming intrigued with what his story is and will be.....and now we find out.
"Things happen for a reason"
Brett - He's known loss, and is coming off the back of a broken marriage. Leo is the best thing that came out of his marriage. Now Brett is about to face an incident that will impact on his life, like nothing else.
Emma - She's suffer a great loss, which has made sure all her life options remain safe, bar one -Eveyln! but she will never regret that. Until one day she can't control what will change the rest of her life.
Evie - The smartest badass twelve year old there is.
Loved this story from start to finish, we get all the feels, love, anger, trepidation, angst, humour and heartbreak.
Brett: "It's the most intense conversation I've ever had, yet no words are spoken"
I shed tears of sadness and happiness throughout. I wouldn't expect anything less from a Samantha Christy novel
The end of the school year is bittersweet for first grade teacher Emma. She enjoys her summer but always misses her students. But your life can change in an instant when a gunman take Emma and others hostage. When he accidentally shoots one of them, Emma is given the task to stop the bleeding. Lt. Brett Cash, firefighter and paramedic, comes to her aide and not only helps the injured but also saves them from their captor. With high emotions and beautifully written scenes, the connection between Emma and Brett runs deep and it takes overcoming a lot of obstacles for the two to continue their relationship. Throw in side stories about Emma's daughter and the ending of Brett's previous marriage and you have a book that deserves more than 5 stars. This book locked me in from the opening pages and I could not put it down. Samantha Christy once again does not disappoint.
After reading the first two from The Men On Fire series, I couldn’t figure out where Engulfing Emma was going to go except that it would follow Lt Brett Cash’s story. The plot of this one was beyond my expectation and I may have at one point nearly sobbed (I’m not crying- you’re crying!) in public as I was reading during my lunch hour at work yesterday.
How do I tell when a book is good? When I am mad I have to put it away when my lunch hour is up and I don’t grab it during my afternoon break because it’s so good I know that 15 minutes will not be nearly enough time.
This is another Samantha Christy book that I inhaled in a little over 24 hours (and I’m a fairly slow reader) because I couldn’t get enough of Brett, Leo and especially Evie! Loved it!
There is so much story. I could not put this book down.
Samantha Christy writes with so much love. Her characters are so well thought through. Each one have their own unique qualities and you fall in love with everyone of them.
The pain runs deep. You feel the loss and can’t help shed tears. The power of love so strong .... This story comes to life and you live every second, every minute of the devastation, the pain, the loss... then you feel the forgiveness, the dedication and the love. Amazing story Samantha. Take a bow, you deserve it.
wow... just wow. i couldn't put this book down from start to finish. the 9/11 tribute was the icing to the beautiful love story and steamy sex. i love a good book with few to no grammatical errors. just wow. if you want to laugh and cry and every emotion in between, this is definitely the book for it :) thanks for a great book Samantha Christy!
“As far as I can tell, romance is not what Emma is looking for.” But that is exactly what she finds with Brett plus his dirty talk. Sexy encounters with this loving, sweet single father leads Emma to face her fears. This emotional book also superbly honors 9/11 heroes and their families.
Emma is using brett. I dont know if anyone else was annoyed with emma but I was. Brett and emma met at a shooting at her school (during the summer /post store robbery). Everything seemed wonderful. Emma brought the firehouse lots of baked goods, which, of course they appreciated and he started to fall for her more they had bonded through that traumatic situation of she was a hostage, and he was trying to help her and then they were going to know each other outside of that stressful environment it was all going great until she told him she doesn’t date firefighters because her father was a firefighter and he died and yet they kept up their friends with benefits, sort of situation Brett jumps at any chance to help Emma. She takes his help and then immediately pushes him away or kicks him out of her bed. She constantly pushes him away and then when she needs him, he comes running back. She doesn’t like when he’s there and she doesn’t like when he’s away. I liked her daughter and her mother, but she annoyed me And I thought it was sort of because his ex-wife was sort of the same way from what we heard from the other two books manipulating him into getting what she wanted. And now Emma is doing the same thing. She pushes him away doesn’t talk to him for a week and then says you promised to take me to the Empire State building to get over my fear of heights. Let’s go now and he does. My daughter wants to go to Germany. I think you should come with us because you’ll calm me down and you can protect us in Germany. It doesn’t matter that you have a two-year-old son and probably shouldn’t be going to Germany and either leaving him or bringing him with to a foreign state, I need you and I want you now so you should do that. And what does he do? He knows a pilot friend that can do a practice flight to help her get over her fear of flying. I like the writing I like the characters I didn’t like Emma. And I just wish Brett used his brain a little more and realized that she wasn’t good for him. She told him from the start that she didn’t want a relationship and yet she’s using him as her own personal play thing. I kept wanting him to find someone else that treated him better or for her to change how she was treating him and realize not just OK. Yes I want to date and marry a firefighter I want you, but their relationship was only benefiting her, when it convenienced her and he just had such a big heart that he didn’t realize that she wasn’t doing anything besides baking and sex. I did not get the moment I needed. I needed Emma to go to therapy because she was using him and he like to be used and they were driving me crazy it was about halfway through the book when I started severely disliking Emma‘s character, and I wanted Brett to stand up for himself and put distance between them and that never happened
Last of the series..and it’s Brett. In the first two books, we read a bit about Brett and his relationship and the difficulties he is having. Now, he is single and a father to Leo.
Emma is a school teacher and she is packing up for summer break. As she goes to leave the school, a guy runs up with a weapon and pushes them back into the school. He injured one of them and tasks Emma to help the injured. Emma finds a phone and is able to call for help, and it’s Brett that gets on the line. Brett is a fire fighter and helps Emma until they can formulate a plan.
Brett and Emma form a friendship of sorts, but every time Brett ask her out, she turns him down. Emma doesn’t date firefighters. This goes back-and-forth like this many, many times. I did not find her likable at all. She used him throughout the whole book. Even when you think, finally… It still comes crashing down. It was everyone else in the book that kept it entertaining.
Emma has endured a devastating loss which has affected every decision she has made since then. She is a single mother to the daughter she loves dearly but she is cautious about those she lets her into her life. She meets Brett under the most difficult of circumstances however even though she is drawn to him in a way she has never felt before his career might be the one thing they can’t overcome.
Brett is still healing from a painful divorce whose life is focused on his son and his career as a firefighter. Rescuing Emma from a dangerous situation might just be the easiest part of their relationship as the only way they are going to be able to have a future together is if he is able to help her heal from the past.
Brett was patient and understanding as he worked to overcome every obstacle that Emma put between them until she realizes that some people are worth the risk.
I absolutely loved this story - beginning to end! It definitely makes you travel through a spectrum of emotions. I’m so happy this one ends with a HEA.
Another great book of Samantha's...I love the Men on Fire series. I tried not to get annoyed with Emma but I understand her hestination on being with Brett. A great story line!!!
Great way to remember the heroism of 9/11. It is a day that is bittersweet for me as my son turned 11 on that day. He has never liked his birthday since. However, remembering that love and hope can come out of learning that sometimes the darkest of days can foster healing and light.
I cannot imagine what it would be like to be a firefighter or the family of one. I just know I'm grateful for their sacrifices.
Samantha Christy is one of my favorite authors. The third story in this series didn't disappoint. The story is heartbreaking and heartwarming. A piece is history tugs at your heartstrings. Emma and Brett are two people you can't help loving. Loved Evie! 📖💗
I just finished Engulfing Emma and I might be wiping a few tears away! You think you know Brett Cash but you have nooo idea! Emma is a bit wishy washy and not my favorite leading lady, sometimes I just wanted to shake some sense into her, but sometimes what is broken can be mended!❤️
Samantha Christy does it again. Her characters are so well developed and endearing, you can't help but fall in love with them. Brett, a Firefighter is about as swoon-worthy as they come. Emma, a single mother, is real and believable. The story will engage you right away making this almost impossible to put this book down. I stayed up all night to finish it. This book has all the feels you could want along with the required HEA.
Samantha Christy's books introduced me to the Romance Genre and I have never looked back since. I have read all 15 of her books, most of them several times. She writes the most awesome male characters, swoon worthy every one. They are not all rich playboy types, most are regular "Joe's" just working for a living. Her female characters are all regular girls like us, most even read romance novels just like us. The fact that her characters are like us, regular everyday people, makes them that much more believable and real. Her characters get into your heart and become friends. You will find yourself talking about them like they live across the street or something.
You can never go wrong reading any of Samantha Christy's books.
Initially, I couldn't wait to read this one for Cash and Leo. I was looking forward to reading about a wonderful woman for his HEA after all the ridiculousness that was so selfish of Amanda (from book2) . But Emma was another batch of ridiculousness entirely. I agree with so many people that we just don't understand why the author did this (so many contrived plot devices. It was just jam packing as much drama as possible to fill pages?) and that Cash deserved a better character than what we got out of Emma. Even though they did get their HEA, it just felt more empty than I expected to feel. I definitely found myself not very present for most of the story, either rereading because I zoned out and somehow missed something or I was twitching to skip ahead because it was the same thing over and over for Emma until a giant tragedy had to take place further into story before any real story development imo got underway. As always, love the children in the story. They brought some cuteness and warmth to the scenes and that helped me to stay grounded in between exasperating situations in the scenes involving some of the adults.
Samantha Christy’s Men on Fire series continues with a slow burn. Engulfing Emma is a story about Emma, a single mom, who has turned her heart away from love. She is afraid of moving forward after the loss of her father in 9/11. Brett is a NYC firefighter whose main sources of joy are fighting fires and his son. While Bret might be ready to jump in headfirst with Emma, she needs a bit more convincing. Will they be able to find their happily ever after, or will Emma’s fears keep them apart until it is too late?
I am a huge Samantha Christy fan and have loved this series. While I did enjoy this book, I do not think that it fully lived up to the hype of the rest of the books. I understand Emma’s hesitation, but I think that this book took slow burn a little too far. All in all, I think that it would be best for readers to read the other books first so that you can be fully entrenched in this world. With all of that being said, Engulfing Emma is a good read that will keep you one your toes!
Wow!!!!...... what a way to finish the Men on Fire Series. This sure is Samantha at her best.
We have met Brett Cash over the last few books, all becoming intrigued with what his story is and will be.....and now we find out.

FEAR-- it can be crippling and keep you from finding the happiness that you were meant to have .. it can cause you to forgo that happiness. Samantha Christy captures this so eloquently in this 3rd installment of the Men on Fire Series. Emma and Brett 's stories begins when fear threatens to take some of the Joy out of Emma's Life. Although it may seem like she needs a Hero right about now-- that is a last thing she is looking for or wanting. Brett is determined to show her just how great life can be when you are willing to let go of the fear for the happiness. No matter how much being together sets their world on fire as the passion ignites, Brett fears that it may not be enough to bring Emma into his life for the long haul. With a cast of new characters - Evie is quite a hoot-- the return of some old favorite character-- Samantha Christy seems to always weave a story that grabs you from the beginning and takes you on a ride you wont expect. This was another great story!
So in theory this book should have been amazing, but instead I was left so disappointed. Emma had some trauma in her childhood, with loosing her father in 9/11 and while this is a traumatic experience she lets it rule her life, she never had therapy to help her cope and instead allowed it to make her a person that personally I could never even be friends with. To be very honest, I completely disliked her, she had no redeeming qualities and that breaks my heart because I hate being down on woman, even fictional ones. Brett, oh, Brett...so I actually liked him but he was such a push over and a doormat (his own words) to make Emma happy. I did love that he was a little more of a sensitive guy but he needed to have a touch of alpha n him because he wasn't a strong enough lead at all. For me, the only reason this book got 3 stars is because of loved Evie and Leo. This is my honest and unbiased review.
I'm giving it 2 stars, simply because of the dedication to 911. If you wrote Emma as a decent adversary for a hot hunky firefighter, instead of a woe is me, I'm scared of everything, and just uses men for sex, slut, the story would have been WORTH READING, so instead of my usual book read in 1 day, I couldn't keep reading it, I had to put it down dozens of time just to get through it, it took me nearly 3weeks to read a book I would have read in a DAY!!!!!!!!!! And I'm not a quitter, so I pushed through it. What would possess you to Mar a beautiful day with such an unworthy poor excuse for a woman and I use that term loosely!!!!! And hating her father to boot. I will never read anything by you in the future and will pass my feelings on to others, this was a travesty!!!!!!!
