Does your child decide they don't like a food before they've even tried it? Do they say 'Yuk' to foods they used to eat happily? Would they live off chips and ice-cream and never touch a vegetable again if given the chance? Are mealtimes driving you nuts?
It's easy to think that children are naturally just fussy eaters. Yet, without realizing it, we are actually creating many of the problems ourselves with the things we do and say to our children around food. The right thing to do isn't always as obvious or as instinctive as you might think. Common habits like using pudding as a reward for eating the main course, or pestering them to eat their vegetables, actually encourage – not discourage – fussy eating!
This little book tells you how to start again. It won't give you complicated child-friendly recipes or clever ways to sneak vegetables into meals – just easy-to-follow, easy-to-remember rules to help re-programme your child into a happy, healthy, adventurous eater.

This book has helped our family so much! I love how this isn’t another toddler recipe or weaning book, but a straight forward approach to changing your family’s food environment and how to talk about food with your kids. We’ve stopped narrating and jumping up to give alternatives, and it works!
My two year old son only used to eat a handful of foods, and is now much more confident exploring new foods. We have dinner time as a family now altogether. I’m much more relaxed and it’s turned into a nice time together rather than a stressful and period of negotiating (which is impossible with a toddler)!
Would absolutely recommend! Also the length is perfect and not too long 😅.
A very informative and simple book that teaches you to go back to basics. In a nutshell this book is about rules, 30 to be exact. If you obey these 30 rules you will undoubtedly see a change in your toddler's dinner time behaviour. For my full review please click the link below:
This is a great mix of paediatric advice and common sense reminders. The format of Potter’s books make the content easy to grasp and implement with to the point examples, designated boxes for scientific notes and tips. It worked for our family because we needed a reminder on how to parent better and function as a family (although this book is about how to get your children eat a healthy diet).
So glad I have come across this book. Was having a miserable time trying to get my 4 year old to eat. He used to try lots of different things. We have been making so many mistakes it’s gradually given him the idea he calls the shots when it comes to food. Been trying the techniques for the past week and already starting to see gradual improvement, so motivating for me!
Finally a book that provides some useful explanations and practical tips to overcome fussy eating rather than bombarding me with a barrage of instagram-style photos and recipes of perfect healthy little meals that my child won't eat like so many books I've already bought. Concise and to the point. I read this book last week and we are already seeing improvements. Enough said.
I have 2 toddlers. One that eats everything and the other won't touch most things. I've followed the rules. I like the no pressure approach and so far in week 2 all she has chosen to eat is pasta or rice. She eats less variety than even before. I was stupid to think a book would help solve this.
This quick and easy read states simple rules to follow to help with fussy eating. The information provided is mostly common knowledge, but often you need the obvious pointed out to you and to go back to the very basics. Overall it's given me the knowledge of where we are going wrong and how to move forward confidently.
