The Deviant Future #2
Wasteland Treasure
In a Deviant Future, the world has been reshaped. Humanity has been changed. Yet despite it all, one thing does survive—love. A dystopian, action and adventure romance for ADULTS from New York Times, bestselling author, Eve Langlais.
New Earth isn’t a kind or gentle place, so Gunner isn’t entirely surprised when a freak windstorm leaves him blinded in a strange place. At least he's not alone.
Sofia might have been banished but she enjoys the freedom of living by her own wits and rules. When a handsome stranger shows up needing help, she agrees if he'll give her the one thing she's always wanted.
A child.
Before Gunner can make good on his end of the bargain, a calamity sends them fleeing right into danger. The monsters aren’t what defeats them, though. They end up captured, unwilling guests in a strange new city with a self-proclaimed king.
Since a dungeon isn’t Gunner's idea of a forever home, he’s breaking free, and when he does, he’s bringing Sofia with him.
If they survive, will Sofia get the child she wants? Or will they both crave something more?

Wasteland Treasure by Eve Langlais
2nd book in the Deviant Future series. Best read after the first for the back ground world building although this one stands alone for the specific characters and romance.
Post-apocalyptic adult romance. Maybe a touch science fiction or paranormal for the varieties of life and magic that results from the earth catastrophes.
It is a adult romance because the hero and heroine are clearly adults although the sexual tension and content is light and mostLy near the end.
I enjoyed the world building in the first book and it was expanded here. This book leans more towards the magical than the abnormal that mostly occurred in the prior.
The heroine, Sofia, is strong and independent. She has learned how to live and protect herself in the wild with the aid of a pet feline. Cougar maybe? It’s amusing throughout how Sofia and Gunner play off each other. And Gunner is swoon worthy. He quickly figures out to maneuver while being blind and protecting Sofia at the same time. He is able to quickly read a situation and finds Sofia beautiful and irresistible before he can even see her.
It was a fast adventure that was enthralling from beginning to the end.
I can’t wait for the next book.
As usual, if you don’t like a cliffhanger, don’t read the last page in the epilogue. Those last few paragraphs switch over to the next hero and heroine in the series.
I alternated between a paperback copy and audio. The audio was narrated by Heather Costa who did a great job on the alternating voices.

I'm liking this series so far.
Gunner's luck holds out and the twister drops him right into Sofia's hidden valley. He can't see at the moment but that doesn't stop his flirting. A friendship develops with the help of Kitty but trouble soon finds them in their isolated paradise.

April 23, 2020The writing for this series seems just half-assed imo like she came up with great ideas and plots but just rushed through them. The H and h in this book didn't have sex until literally the last hour of the 7 hour long audiobook and it was a rush job, done under the covers as they were both captives and didn't want to be spied on. Ugh. I'm just so disappointed.
The heroine in this book was definitely smarter and easier to like in this book compared to the last. Gunner was just kind of meh, I was looking forward to reading about him but he sort of fell flat in this book. I really hope the next books improve. An equal amount of time and attention should be spent on writing the ending, not just focused on hooking readers with the beginning and middle...

On the whole, a really entertaining story with lots of action set in the future after earth has changed due to a series of natural and man made events. Some people live in domes and are strictly controlled and other live in the wild. There are several lands and the earth is not as we know it. The author has such an imagination! I'm almost finished with an hour to go and I'm thinking the ending is rushing through like a freight train though - as if there was a deadline the author had to reach and she had to finish asap. Everything is happening so quickly and there are suddenly so many characters and monsters I can't keep up. The romance is slow burn and I liked the H/h and I look forward to reading more about this world set in year 370 after 'The Fall'. 4.5 stars.

This was all kinds of fun adventure! Gunnar and Sophia certainly know how to keep things interesting, fast-paced, fun, and logical. It is no wonder they fell hard for each other, there really was no other alternative. So much is covered, banishment, attack, enslavement, finding old friends, and making new ones, and through it all, our pair, and kitty, kept me enthralled, rooting for them, and on the edge of my seat
Loved the narration, it perfectly captured the emotions of our characters, their foes, and the animated beings. The descriptions of the worlds made them come to life and exist in my ears!

I enjoyed this story, but not as much as the first one. The ending seemed rushed. In the last 10% they escaped, went on a boat ride, decided to stay, went to Haven, had sex, and brought all of Haven back to where they were. Whew.

And again she melts my heart with her deviant mind. You can tell this one was written pancer style because just when you think things can’t get any worse for Gunner and Sophia, Eve throws another one at them. Their journey is heartwarming and adventurous all in one package. Don’t let book one’s simple battle of good vs evil lull you into believing this one is the same, because it isn’t.Â
Book two gives us a real view of the new land called earth and what the meteor and chemical wars have done to her. In grand fashion there are monsters a plenty, not all justified by good or evil, but just are. I think right now this is an important concept for people to understand, sometimes bad things aren’t good or evil, they just are BAD!! Eve reminds us of this fact in this one. The world gets much larger and her world building takes off in this fast paced action filled adventure to find safety, courage, and love.
Gunner and Sofia connect first on a sensual and intelligent level before they both actually see one another. Gunner doesn’t have use of his eyes during their first few days together, so the scar Sofia carries isn’t a factor in whether he loves her or not. It takes Sofia much longer to trust Gunner is truly a good man and not after her for her feminine wiles. When she does figure it out though, they make a great team filling in where the other leaves off in ability, knowledge, and wit. This couple reminds me of so many relationships I see today, where one feel inferior of the other and can’t see why their mate loves them so much. We get fixated on looks so much we forget sometimes there are other reasons to love a person.
I’m giving this a 4.5 of 5 and am wondering if she can keep up the pace of the series all the way through…I don’t want to be let down. These first two books are outstanding stories and world building. I can’t wait to see what Haven is thrown next.
Unfortunately there is so much in this book that pertains to desires of Haven from the last book that I can’t tell you much without spoilers. If you don’t want to see them, you should stop reading now. ****SPOILER ALERT***
SPOILERS***I really loved that in Sofia she was shown that she just couldn’t do good with her ability, but she could also do bad…It was up to her to decide and good and bad was based on judgement and situation. Such as saving Gunner but having to almost kill someone was a good and bad thing. All in perspective. I’m still not quite sure what Gunner’s ability is except he is the luckiest son of a B***h I’ve seen in a while. Hopefully we see more of his abilities in the next few novels so we can make it tangible instead of a feeling. Lastly, hang in there because for a while you are going to think it’s an episode of Ben Hur or Gladiator but I promise it is more like GOT but with lots of supernatural powers being thrown around. And a mind reader…I know there is more to that story!! Through it all, Gunner keeps his promise to find a home for HAVEN!!! I can’t wait to see how that plays out over the next several books. They may have to build from ashes, but knowing them, it will be wonderful.

I enjoyed this book more the first book, the female protagonist even though she was still sheltered having been raised in one of the government settlements she wasn’t as helpless as the woman in book 1.
She was an assistant to an apothecary store owner making creams and things for the entitled people in the city. Until one day a woman accused her of a Crime and she was banished into the wastelands where she would have died if it wasn’t for a cat that helped her. She spent 5 years alone with the cat that just kept growing due to something in the environment.
Then she met one of our RATs from book 1 the one with the Luck 🍀 on his side & she heals him. At first she doesn’t know she has healing powers until he tells her all apothecary workers do. They fall in love and have to fight bad guys, they get washed away in a storm, they are taken again a king wants her for her powers to save his child. After running away and the king finding he has spy’s he agrees to let them live outside his city with their RAT friends.

Good book
I enjoyed listening to this book about Gunner and Sophia. Gunner is stranded in this area he’s never been to while injured. Sophia was banished from the Ruby dome 5 yrs ago and has been stranded there since. They eventually work together to defeat the bad guys and fight the elements in their marsh area. It was nice watching them fall in love. Gunner is be capable, a good fighter and protective of Sophia. She is strong to have survived this long and has magical healing powers, even though she’s unaware of it. This book is their adventure through fighting the bad guys and landing in the Eden city. We are introduced to the king there and a lost Haven friend of Gunners. I also enjoyed her large cat, which she named Kitty. She was cool and really does seem to understand what they are saying.
This was a fun book to listen to and I look forward to the next one in the series.

A must read, for sure. So creative and different (in a great way!)
This series is absolutely fantastic. The combination nonstop action, unexpected obstacles, and steamy character interactions, is so entertaining and unpredictable that I basically devoured this story. Sofia is fierce and strong, a survivor against all odds. Gunner is cocky and capable, and just lucky enough to usually get his way. Add in Kitty, and this story was awesome. I can’t get over how creative this series is. The wildly unusual animals, imaginative geography, and clever foliage is a huge testament to this authors ability to weave original, innovative stories.

Oooh Book Two takes us even deeper into the Deviant Future, where things get more and more interesting with every page turn! Sofia is hella-interesting, right off the bat. She has some unique abilities, and she starts off the story being done with people's BS. She'd rather live alone in the wilderness than suck it up for some stuffy jerks. My kind of lady!
Gunner and Sofia figure things out together, like what they'd do for safety, security, and love in this strange wasteland. And Langlais has set up the next story in the series... I can't wait to read more about the new King!

Gunner's Luck
Gunner gets picked up and dropped into a place that is unfamiliar. He meets Sofia and her Kitty. She heals his wounds and he promises her a baby. They come up against Enclave guards, but when they try to leave and go to Haen, they are captured by King Roark. He wants her to heal and wants Gunner to fight.
I was really looking forward to Gunner's story and I wasn't disappointed. I love Gunner and his luck.
Really excited for Titan's story.

I have submitted this review after listening to the audiobook of this title within the series set box. (Audible Membership)
Gunner thought he was a gona when he was hit by the whirling dust cloud and separated from his bike. He woke to a woman chastising her Kitty, for bringing home a stranger, regardless he was very close to death.
so the scene is set, and we have to wonder what adventures this tale will lead these three intriguing characters.

Love eve langlais books, very well written. My problem Sofia starts at strong female 5 yrs alone fight off rapist men, killer plants, wild animals. But not Gunner in the picture she some damsel in the middle of the book yelling, screaming, & cowering behind him. Only to find her in power from the love a Gunner. As I finish all I can say is REALLY.

Gunner is a smart and sly character that has you rooting for him from the beginning. Eve writes a great world that evolves with each book in the series as you learn of different cities and those opposing the rule of the Enclave. The fact that Sofia has to learn that she is indeed special, and hone her ability makes this a great read from start to finish.

Ok but warnings
Gunner and Sofia are ok. They’re not particularly interesting. There are lots of references to sexual assaults and threats of rape. This isn’t something I enjoy in a novel thus 2 stars. Kitty was the most interesting character.

Book 2 of the Deviant Future series and just as good as the first! Full of magical powers, monsters, and of course humans, both good and evil. Plenty of laughter and danger as Gunner and Sophia try to reunite with Haven.

Loved it!
I love a well written dystopian romance. This story kept me on the edge of my seat and I enjoyed the interaction between Sofia and Gunner. Looking forward to the next book.

Oh my goodness, what a wonderful journey this story is! I love the humour that snuck up on me. I love characters that charm so much. The heat and the battle fed gore are always so entertaining. The romance? Perfection!

Look what Kitty found!
Loved the addition of Kitty. A simple name, but it worked. The “hero” had a lot to learn about charming females without using his looks. Our heroine had a lot to learn about trust.
This was a great story, about two people learning to work together. Lots of humor and fun. The environment, as always was another character that was always unexpected.
The characters connected well, and seemed to grow on one another. Neither were helpless, and they both had a mutual respect for the others abilities.
Looking forward to more in this series
