Imagine having to stand in front of Allah SWT and watch the sin being committed in front of you then having to explain it.
Allah SWT mentions in surah Ali Imran, verse 135,
“And those who, when they commit immorality or wrond themselves [by transgression], remember Allah and seek forgiveness for their sins..”

At first, I want to write this simple
yet "moving"
paragraph for this review:
But, I was trying to contained my self
and regain my dignity
and they didn't do its justice towards this book, so I tried to write it as professional as I can :)
In short, this book was kinda like pocket book and that 101 manual about repentance or most of us called as taubah. Despite its shortness, this book was so great. It was well written, There are many reference like hadist and surah, also some sheerah here and there, it was compact yet comprehensive. I love a short yet comprehensive book, especially if that particular book was a non-fiction one.
I kinda feel pressured writing this because there are many things that I want to include here but I love how compassionate his writing is eventhough the topic itself was kinda deep and sensitive because our relationship with Allah was that personal, but then the flow this book hold was great and I didn't feel attacked or preached whatsoever. It was so elegant.
What I love the most about this book was the flow and the sequence it had. Before we get into the term repentance or taubah, we are guided to sync our perspective about how we see in our relationship with Allah and what our goal in this life is. I love the part when Omar Suleiman says to make our relationship with Allah as a personal thing that hold very dear and very special in our heart, not just seeing it as "transactional". This opened my eyes and I feel really grateful to stumble on this book and read that certain part.
There are many other interesting topic that we could get in this book as well. But I feel that after I finished reading this book, I feel anew. Like I was pressing my restart button and start to do what I could do to "mend" and focusing on my own relationship with Allah.
The last thing I want to say is, this book also specifically point out the balance that we must take into account between "don't be scared to ask forgiveness despite how big the sins was" and also "don't take small sin as lightly as you think" So we were reminded again and again with how kind and how compassionate Allah is but in other sides we also couldn't use that to defend all of our sins that we've made.
If you want to read a book about taubah and the relationship that we had with Allah, pick this and I hope you could enjoyed it as much as I do.

Omar Suleiman's content is always concise, clear and comprehensive. That was how I felt while reading this book. The content of this book is spread evenly through short, bite-sized chapters, interwoven with verses of the Quran and hadith and engaging stories of the Prophet and the Sahabah.
Repentance is a subject that will always hover around us, for we are only mere mortals who sin and transgress every single day. Yet what Omar Suleiman emphasises in this book is the practice of leaving our habits behind with constant remembrance of Allah. Of dhikr, of rembering His mercy, of fesring His punishment while praying and hoping for His forgiveness.
I especially liked the chapter on adopting a "game plan", where the reader will learn about the ways to leave a sin, and to commit fully to constantly turn back to repentance even if he falls short. This is definitely a book that I would return to as a resourceful guide.

'Repentance; Our goal is not just to reach a place in which we will not be punished by Allah – that is an example of having a bad assumption of Allah (glorified and exalted is He). Rather, our goal is to get to a place where Allah is actually pleased with us, where we long for our meeting with Allah (glorified and exalted is He), and where we expect the best reward from Him.
'Allah connected taubah to falah (success). Is taubah the process or the outcome? Taubah is the process. What other thing in the world – especially of importance – gives you the outcome based upon the process? What other thing that Allah ( glorified and exalted is He ) guarantees you success in return for you being engaged in a process? Not necessarily for the outcome of the process.'

Repentance: Breaking The Habit Of Sin; a short compact book, yet insightful and delivered -- using an easily understood writing style, and familiar to me since I love to listen to Omar Suleiman's talks -- very useful and realistic methods to dealing with repentance in Muslims' lives. The contents are broken into 23 chapters, that begins with talking about our relationship with Allah s.w.t. before it touches on the main topic about repentance -- on the whats and hows.
And as always besides the best delivery of said topic, it's how the references (Quran, Hadith etc.) used that makes me love every topic being talked about by Imam Omar Suleiman -- they always can deeply resonate within me -- and this book is definitely one of them too. Indeed, will leave you feeling motivated and more lift up upon finishing your reading. No doubt this is one book that will benefit every one of us Muslim readers.

I started reading this book after Ramadan
Where in the month of Ramadan I watched regularly the series of Yaqeen Institutes entitled The Day of Judgment.
This book is really great, reading this book is like listening to Ustadz Omar Suleiman talking on a youtube series.
This book also helped me build a mindset to continue to repent to Allah. Where to repent not only when we sin, but when we feel less close to Allah.
As stated in his book that:
"It comes to repentance and getting close to Allah (glorified and exalted is He). This is an ocean with no coast. Therefore, the one who thinks that they have arrived, has completely distance themselves from Allah"
Then a question arises regarding the title, how do we break the habit of sin?
The tips is to follow up a sin with a good deed and it will wipe it out.
Moreover, Before you committed a sin, fear Allah. After you committed a sin, you are going to need a hope in Allah to propel you towards repentance and not despair.

Best book I've read this year.
This book will make you cry. You will realize how merciful Allah (glorified and exalted is He) is, He is the Forgiver of sins, the Ever-Forgiving.
“Turning back to Allah (glorified and exalted is He) might feel like something that causes us shame, because we have to admit that we are at fault. Many of us have felt disheartened because we messed up, we messed up too many times to count, maybe we messed up in the worst of ways, and this brings us feelings of shame and unworthiness.
Then Allah (glorified and exalted is He) reminds us that He is Al-Ghāfur more than ninety times in the Qur'an. Al-Ghāfur is the One who forgives over and over and over again. No matter how many sins, or even the type of sin you have committed, Allah (glorified and exalted is He) will cover and protect you from them if you seek His forgiveness and do sincere taubah.” - Dr. Jinan Yousef
In this book, ustadz Omar Suleiman describes what is taubah (repentance) means, what is the goal of the taubah, how to build a personal relationship with Allah (glorified and exalted is He), the station of repentance, minor and major sins, how you get rid of your bad habits and do the good deeds instead, how to keep purifying yourself, and many more.

repentance is a relatively short read that i picked up today as i thought it would also be a great start for my #ramadhanreads and some #ramadhanreflections :'-)
ramadhan is an opportunity we have to take and make use of every second of it because we might not live to see the next one. its the month of repentance, forgiving sins, getting closer to Him, strengthening our connection and our iman. it is the month of peace, of clarity, of taqwa, of hope. ✨
even though one's hope of being forgiven in this blessed month is at its peak, this book also reminds us that repentance is not time-fixed. that we can repent at any time, any place as the doors of mercy and repentance will always be open.
i personally love the last 2 chapters ((investigate/game plan)) as it provides probing questions that are useful and it also provides a space for us to reflect and renew our intentions. i have to be honest that there are times where i felt like i could have been more productive or spend more time doing something good and these chapters makes me think of the things i need to stop/cut down in order to do so.
i love how reading this encourages us to keep seeking for His forgiveness & never lose hope. and alhamdulillah, for its officially ramadhan. 🥹 may He ease our hardships & bless us with the chance to repent for our sins and grant us mercy.
with that, have a blessed ramadhan to all my muslim brothers & sisters 💚

Buku ini sangat bagus dan sangat direkomendasikan untk dibaca. Ustad Omar Suleiman mengajak pembaca lebih dalam mengenai Taubat.
Buku ini menggunakan bahasa yang lugas dan tepat sasaran, tidak bertele-tele namun tetap tidak merasa digurui.
Pada dasarnya, Anak Adam tidak ada yang terlepas dari dosa, seperti yang sudah di sampaikan oleh Rasulullah yaitu Setiap anak Adam pasti berbuat salah, dan sebaik-baik orang yang berbuat kesalahan adalah yang bertaubat.
Sehingga dalam hal menjalani kehidupan ini, alangkah baiknya untk terus melakukan taubat sebaik-baiknya.
Terkutip dari halaman 31 “ Imam Al Ghazali mentioned that Taubah is not just condition to entering into Jannah; it also the condition of earning the love of Allah”
Terkait taubat ini kaitannya sangat erat atas hubungan kita dengan Rabb Pencipta Alam semesta, yang mana Allah Maha Agung dan Maha Pengampun, sebesar apapun kesalahan kita maka lebih luas lagi Pengampunannya.
Buku ini menggiring diri agar terus mau berkaca dan mengoreksi diri termasuk di dalamnya dibahas langkah-langkah yang harus dilakukan agar semakin erat hubungan dengan Rabb Yang Maha Pengasih, selain terus bertaubat kita jga harus terus berdoa agar diberikan jalan serta kekuatan untk meninggalkan perbuatan yang kurang baik.
Buku ini menggunakan bahasa yang lugas dan tepat sasaran, tidak bertele-tele namun tetap tidak merasa digurui.

Love love love the way repentance was discussed in this book. So much misconception about sins and barrier and forgiveness and this book does such a phenomenal job of addressing those misconceptions and explaining them in such easy-to-understand language and examples.
For instance, thinking that repenting is merely just asking for forgiveness of sin so that God doesn’t punish you, which is a flawed away of thinking of repentance and God as He is the Most-Merciful. In fact, repenting is about breaking the barrier you built (by committing the sins) to then building a relationship with God. (Trust, the book’s explanation is way better than anything I could state here)
I see myself coming back to this book again and again for reminders and tips and so much more!

Another book that I'm grateful for being able to start reading it during the holy month of Ramadhan. What a blessing it is to be able to learn so much from all the stories put together by the author with interesting insights. The most captivating line from this book has got to be this "Do not shut all the doors between you and Allah". I felt the strong realization that no matter how big of a sin that ones commited, there's no limitation when it comes to His forgiveness and mercy. It is so moving. Love it and highly recommended.

Honestly it wasn't bad it was just all common knowledge in my opinion. Maybe if you're new to Islam it would be beneficial. Also there were so many spelling and grammar errors and I usually don't care about that stuff but there was so much that I couldn't ignore it. I heard his other books are good and he's my favorite Islamic speaker so I would still recommend reading his other books and listening to his khutbahs and lectures.

Completed this book in Mekkah. It has definitely widen my views on the perspective of how to view sins and our efforts towards repentance.

Everything about this book just hits me on the feels. Every advice on how to abandon a sin and still hope for Allah’s mercy is so practical (not theoretical) that you could really think you can do it. Mashā Allah. May Allah bless you Sir Omar Suleiman. I so recommend this book. ❤️

It's an amazing summary on repentance, a highly recommended book to any one looking for a spiritual book on turning back to God.
I'll abstain from giving it a full 5 stars because of the many grammatical mistakes; they annoyed me tremendously.

A book every Muslim should read at least once in a lifetime. It will revive your faith. The book revolves around breaking the cycle of sin and how Allah (SWT) is always there to forgive as long as you seek His mercy. This book changed something in me. definitely 5/5⭐️

What I like about this book is that it provides practical steps to repent, especially the 'why'.
