First half is great...

The second half is way too unfocused, including several 2 page mini chapters extolling the various techniques employed to help quit drinking including the author's advocation of pot and dangerous mind altering chemicals like psilocybin and DDT because howler monkeys taught him to quit drinking...
Yet only a few pages mention important techniques such as meditation and helpful drugs like camprol.
Plus the book is in dire need of an editor, e.g., using the abbreviation AF for alcohol free, but finding the phrase "AF free."
The penultimate chapter also lists a bunch of refuted/sketchy scientific studies to I guess support the conclusion that the universe cares about our goals?
Oh, and the author also finds a way to work in his leftist opinions on border control...no thanks.
It is kind of a shame because I feel like the author could have written a while book documenting the hypocrisy of the LDS (i.e. Mormons) based on his experiences as the only non-LDS kid in town.
2 stars for the first half though.

Take your time with this book! Read the material and actually ponder the prompts. Write that break up letter to Alcohol. Use this book to its full potential and you will come away with a new perspective on sobriety.
Just really well done! Paul presents big, scientific and effective concepts in ways that everyone can access. He provides plenty of titles for further reading too.

Like a hangover in written form. A bit of interesting factual information layered beneath heaps and heaps of mildly amusing alcoholic anecdotes, stretched mercilessly into novel length, and building to an ending that dives deeply into ludicrous pseudo-science. But yes, you should drink less.

Read with an open mind

Paul Churchill has some very unique and, as some may say, "out there" ideas. While I'm not sure I agree with all of them, I enjoyed reading about every single one.

Overall, I found this book fascinating, it opened my mind to multiple possibilities about myself and the world around me. This book covers way more than quitting drinking.

I would recommend this as a tool to an open minded person who wants to quit, or has already quit drinking. This book could be just as beneficial to someone at 500 days of sobriety as it would be to someone who hasn't started yet.

I gave it 4 stars because at times I found it a bit unorganized. It was still enjoyable to read and most of the time easy to follow.

This may be my favorite recovery book thus far. Paul Churchill knows all the right things to say! His lighthearted approach to addiction is so refreshing! I personally believe you have to laugh to prevent yourself from crying. It’s so important not to be too hard on yourself in the process of something as delicate as recovery. Being able to laugh while listening to this book made my heart smile! He gives tangible strategies to eliminate this sh!t called alcohol from your life. But what my favorite thing is (and I’ve yet to see with any other addiction book so far) is that he goes in depth and gives tangible step by step instructions of how to deal with cravings and UNCOMFORTABLE EMOTIONS! This is huge for me because this is what keeps me reaching for the bottle and exiting stage left when sh!t hits the fan. Absolutely loved this book and I’m sad that it’s ended. Thank you Paul. From the bottom of my heart. READ THIS NOW. You will NOT be disappointed!

This book helped me quit alcohol almost 3 yrs ago. I still pick it up from time to time. The author is funny, humble and not afraid to share funny (though regretful) stories from his past. I read a LOT of ‘quit lit’ and this was my favorite because it wasn’t so HEAVY and INTENSE and just made you feel like a normal person who has lots of company. I loved it.

A very interesting book about addiction and the route causes, a lot of which you wouldn’t generally consider so this was a good insight. Would recommend this book for anyone wanting to learn more about addiction and the addictive patterns and how to overcome them.

This book was fabulous. It was full of new info, such as you can quit drinking without AA, and exercises to maintain sobriety. The information was down-to-earth and relatable. I recommend everyone who wants to attain sobriety to read this...., and listen to the author's podcast called Recovery Elevator.

If you’re qutting

This book is great for people in very early sobriety or those considering put down the booze. It’s a good read even if you have a little time under your belt. If you listen to the podcast as you read it you can hear Paul’s voice as you read it. Well done sir!
