“When they leave, they shouldn’t take your happiness with them. If they did, it’s time to get it back.” For those who’ve read Ashes of Her Love, comes the empowering sequel of life after the heartache of an ended relationship. Best-selling author Pierre Alex Jeanty speaks into the lives of the women who are now traveling the road back to themselves after giving their heart to someone whose hands weren’t big enough to hold it. This gripping collection of poetry/prose was created for women who must put old lovers in the past, leave behind the ashes, and to learn how to kindle their own fire. It is inspiration to face the future head-on with the key to their happiness in their own hands, and love staring back at them from the mirror. Sparking Her Own Flame is the fulfillment of lessons learned, and the inner strength to rise again. Ready to fan the fire within?
I stumbled upon this book after a page of it appeared on the internet and I loved the quote so much that I had to know what it was from. I ended up finding it, ordering it, receiving an additional free ebook by this author and immediately loving his writing (despite not being a big poetry person). I loved this and read it one sitting (it's not super long to be fair). I will definitely be finding more of his works to read!
What is a poem... Does it read like any other? Does it grab and pull, placing you in a moment where time has stopped? That is what this little shelf published book does.
This book IS targeting the female demographic, if you couldn't tell by the title of the book. But this book has gender neutral poems, and pomes targeted to a ex-partners who where left be it male or female.
In general this book hits is all for me, it says the things I wish I could put into words and give it a beauty that at the time I didn't see it like that. It has how I felt when I was left, it has how I felt AND why I left, for others -both good and bad. Besides the cover of the book, when I read the title I thought of a Phenoex rising from their flames.
This book is set up in 2 parts. The first part is the pain, the burn, the ashes of what use to be, the pain of lost, the pain of leaving -accepting what you can't change and everything in-between. While the second half is uplifting, encouraging and a motivator for not giving up and being happy much like rebirth!
I feel like the author has meet, knows, or fell in love with a few women who has experienced everything he targets and this is what he would tell them, the good side and the ugly.
I think if a male picked up this book and spent 15-30 min reading this they would see the emotions females go through (and possibly themselves) and get words to help uplift themselves. Go random Facebook buy!
I love Jeanty's poetry. It isn't your usual poetry with all the rhyme and meter and form, but it's beautiful all the same and a great encouragement to women. The work has some stellar messages. I've read Her and Her II as well as Apologies That Never Came and The Ashes of Her Love. These came at times when I desperately needed encouragement, strengthening, and a reminder that loving the wrong person and walking away didn't make me broken and useless but strong and brave. I'd recommend it to any woman who has been through the hell of an abusive (emotional, mental, or physical) relationship and walked away. Jeanty's work is a reminder that, though healing may take time, you can heal and you can become stronger than the woman that the last guy tried his best to destroy.
I bought this and the first one in a bundle together and wanted to give it a chance since I payed for it, but I honestly hated it as much as the first one. I have pretty much the same thoughts as before, so i’ll just copy and paste that review below.
If I could give this book zero stars I would. I liked probably 5 of the poems in total and that’s being generous. The poems are very bland and repetitive, AND not at all original or unique. Also, quite simplistic in it’s generalization of gender roles and feelings. To summarize... man=evil w/ a penis and woman=good w/ a uterus. Look, now you don’t have to even read it! Yeah... I can’t NOT recommend this enough.
This small book of poetry was published in 2019. The poems are a series of works describing a woman who has left a relationship in the voice of that woman. I couldn't tell if it was a true circumstance or an imagined one. "There is no condemnation in leaving a love story that no longer has love in it." page 12. The poet, Pierre-Alex Jeanty, is a Haitian-American. He started writing poetry after the death of a childhood friend. He now lives and writes in south Florida. He also has a small publishing company there.
I love Jeanty’s books. I have read volume one and two of HER already and throughly enjoyed those. His poems really hit home and are inspiring. Especially this book for females particularly and the HER books. It feels like he’s talking to you specifically and it feels personal. I highly recommend reading this book of poems along with Jeanty’s other books.
Until I saw this author's posts, I'd never bought anything off a facebook ad. I went with Sparking Her Own Flame and Ashes of Her Love. It was worth every penny - he's a fantastic poet. Next month I'm going to snag the Him and Her books. I'll eventually get the whole set. He's right up there with Rupi Kaur for me.
It was so good! So empowering. It is truly something beautiful when a man can write such touching poetry about a woman and get it right. Its all about honoring the women in your life and seeing what they have been through and how strong they really are. For fans of Amanda Lovelace and Atticus
I really enjoyed reading this. The words to uplift yourself are amazing. I bought her books after a bad divorce and reading them now shows me how much I’ve grown from that dark place as a stronger person. Love love🙌🏼🩷
I’m at a different stage in my life now, but I still like to read poems about finding oneself after a breakup, love, heartache, etc. My favorite poems in this book were on pages: 41, 42, 45, 47, 53, and 63.
If your heart is in recovery after the loss of a relationship, this is the book for you. There is no cure for a broken heart, but these poems will help you realize your self-worth again.
This was pretty good, a lot of the poems struck me. I am definitely an avid poetry lover though so this likely would be more like 2-3 stars for someone who doesn’t love poetry.
I am enjoying the work of this author who writes about male/female relationships. This is the 2nd book I've read from him and will likely read the others.
This like Ashes of Her Love, is a small volume of poems, which talk to pain and recovery from love gone bad. Irresistable. And female-centric. Easy to read and touching.
