She thinks life — and love — have passed her by. He can fix everyone's love life except his own. Until a freak snowstorm gives them a chance ...
Sensible Aunt Doris. That's what Doris Lebowitz's family thinks of her. And she really can't argue. At age 62, she's resigned to being the level-headed one in her sprawling, boisterous family. A state of permanent spinsterhood suits her just fine.
Until Joey Hu waltzes into her life, with his warm golden eyes and too-hot-to-handle body ... but she has no idea how much of a silver fox he really is. All she knows is, she's not about to throw away the sensible habits of a lifetime on a moment's infatuation, no matter how sexy.
As a nine-tailed fox shifter, Joey has a special talent for helping troubled lovers. But his gifts can't bring him a mate of his own, and at his age, he's starting to wonder if there's no true love for him. And then Joey and his fox catch sight of Doris, and discover that love knows no age limits.
Now all he has to do is convince Doris that she's as much of a catch as Joey already knows she is. Snowed in with Doris's enormous nosy family, finding time to be alone together is as hard as resisting a third helping of Granny Z's pastries. But maybe a whole houseful of eager matchmakers can help them learn that you're never too old for a happily ever after.
A romance with a heaping helping of comedy, a dash of danger, a silver-haired heroine, and a literal silver fox!
Zoe Chant loves writing paranormal romance. Over a cup of tea (or something stronger) she whips up sexy tales of hunky heroes and adventurous heroines to tantalize and satisfy her readers. Sizzling hot romance, no cliffhangers!
While series should ideally be read in order, all of Zoe’s books are standalones and can be read in any order. This includes books within series.
Zoe’s you’re amazing, I’ve not picked up a book by you that hasn’t pulled me in completely and left me wanting more when I reach the end. Really looking forward to the rest of this series.
I liked how laid back this instalment is. After the first one I thought we will get more on Cang. I love the chinese mythology and magical creatures woven into the plot. Also liked Doris and her chaotic family.
Witty, with a touch of Spice, love story for the ages!
It is sad to say that in today's society love and romance after age 50 seems to be considered a fairytale. While it is true that life goals and expectations change (hopefully for the better) as we age, I can assure you the need for romance and caring does not end. Which is why I am delighted to see a trend in my favorite genre, Paranormal Romance, towards stories designed to appeal to women of a "certain age". Zoe Chant has done a magnificent job of combining fantasy, romance and adventure for a more mature audience in her Silver Shifter series.
Silver Fox is book two in Zoe's Silver Shifters series and it may be my favorite of the series mainly because of the witty and gregarious male protagonist Joey Hu. Joey is first introduced as a support character in book one of the series, Silver Dragon. He is a funny and formidable partner to the Silver Dragon. But in book two, he becomes the star and Zoe Chant does a magnificent job in evolving Joey into a multi- layered character. Like his friend the Silver Dragon, he is a mythical shifter, a nine-tailed fox. Zoe Chant captures the witty fox-like characteristics beautifully. I fell madly in love with this delightfully charming spirit. I also love the irony that Joey's talent for helping troubled lovers does not help him with his courtship of his fated mate, Doris.
Doris also comes into her own in this story. In book one she is somewhat of a doormat to her over the top quirky family. A good friend to her fellow writer group members, she still takes a back seat to flamboyant Godiva, the leader of the four friends. She is a caregiver, resigned to a life of spinsterhood. But as the story of Joey and her evolves, the reader realizes that there is a bit of the dreamer and believer in magic lurking in Doris personality. The way Zoe Chant slowly reveals this emerging quality is masterful and adds to the suspense of the novel almost as much, as the background quest the two lovers find themselves embroiled in. I also appreciated the skill, sensitivity and yes, humor Ms. Chant used in describing the lovemaking between the two lovers. Making accommodations for aging joints and changing body images in no way detracted from the spicy heat typical in a Zoe Chant shifter romance. Again, it demonstrated Zoe Chant's incredible talent as a romance writer.
Book two continues the adventure started in Silver Dragon and the evil Long Cang, grows even more villainous as time progresses. The suspense grows as Joey discovers he is stronger with his human mate as a partner. Doris ,too, discovers her own strength and cleverness as evil threatens the one she loves.
I highly recommend you read Silver Fox if you love paranormal romance, especially if you are looking for magic and romance beyond your 40-50s. If you haven't read Silver Dragon, I would suggest you start there. While Silver Fox could be read as a stand alone, many of the characters and action is carried over from Silver Dragon.
It's odd. I liked Joey more as a male protagonist than Mikhail, and I loved all the yiddishkeit that permeated Doris's life, but I just didn't enjoy this instalment quite as much I enjoyed Silver Dragon.
Maybe it's because I just found Doris too difficult to identify with as female lead - it felt like there was very little to her life beyond her identity as a spinster. Yes, she volunteered with her synagogue - and was allegedly a teacher - but that all seemed to happen off-camera, other than the chaperoning evening that gave her time to spend with Joey. At least with Bird, we had her art and writing (although I guess Doris had the cookbook she wanted to create as well - but that seemed to be a case of 'oh, I might as well do this because I'm not doing anything else', rather than anything she felt particularly driven to do)
And for all that Joey had a theoretical plot thread of dealing with Cang, it felt like an afterthought that existed purely as an excuse to get him up to the Lebowitz family Purim get-together, rather than anything that was a real driver for him or the story. Not to mention that
So I guess the major issue I had with this one is the one that I sometimes come across with romances where the relationship development is the only thing that feels like a genuine plot thread. Which might well be a plus for some readers.
But despite not enjoying it as much as Silver Dragon, I still did enjoy it, and found myself reading some of the scenes with a dopey smile on my face. It was just the gentle, low-angst read I needed today, and I'm looking forward to moving onto Jen's story in the next book.
Awesome story about a silver fox shifter with nine tails
This story is about a Chinese Silver Fox shifter with nine tails. Chinese mythology is different from the regular mythology say of dragons-- Chinese dragons have no wings like regular Dragons do. Fox shifters do not have mythical Silver Fox with nine tails. I like that these are senior humans and magical shifters. That what makes this series about the silver shifters so unusual and quite delightful.
Joey is a professor at the University plus he is a mystical silver fox with nine tails. He finds his mate whose name is Doris, write cookbooks, and is she is a school teacher. In the mythical realm they have an anime that they have to locate and imprisoned. Will they find love?
The characters have relatable, intriguing, confusing because of their magical nature understanding human, and sexy. The plot is fast paced drama with a bit of whimsy humor. I highly recommend this book and series.
Silver Fox: Silver Shifters book 2 By Zoe Chant Kindle unlimited purchase The Silver Shifters series: Silver Dragon Silver Fox Silver Unicorn Joey is not just a regular fox shifter, no he's a rare nine-tailed fox. Doris is a sixty-two-year-old spinster. With a big family like hers, she gets lost. This book was TOO long. I understand that this is a SILVER book but I feel that the ages we're too high for me. Like with Doris when you add-in her family her age doesn't work out her mother and grandmother would be too old. But I did enjoy the book, I feel in love with the characters, even members of Doris' family. Don't miss out on the little look into Xi Yong's life and how he finds his mate during all this drama. I recommend reading this series in order as the characters from book 1 appear in this book as well.
Now, dont get me wrong here... most mate stories have to do with younger couples. But I truly enjoy the fact that the Zoes decided to show that the older generation also has chances at love too! Never discount those older than you... their beauty has deepened through time and experience.
That being said, I'm enjoying this series of "silvers" very much! I dont know how the Zoes do it, but I'm able to get drawn in and be able to relate to the characters in the books. Plus theres also the fact that theres no instant relationships, the couples have to work through their feelings and their own personal mental mazes to reach the reward at the end. I look forward to seeing where this storyline ends up!!
Book two of the series continues the saga of the Silver Shifters their mission and their mates. Now is sensible Doris’ turn to meet the man of her dream, who just happens to be the lovely Nine Tails Fox Shifter Joey. Their meeting is not smooth and perfect but the getting there makes for a great story at the same time that it continues the story as the shifters try to find Cang. This is a quick read with humor, turmoil and love in all different ways within the story and bonus you get Xi’s story with Isidor too.
Wonderfully written. I love this series. Very little sexual content in these stories. There is plenty of drama with a rogue Dragon running around and bound to be some comedy and romance when you're dealing with mythical characters like dragons, foxes with 9 tails running into their mates while chasing down the rogue. Oh, and did I mention their mates are over the age of fifty. I fall into that she bracket, so I guess there's hope for me yet. Love the series.
He's awesome!! He is very timid and patient with her even though she keeps find excuses up he's not going 2 let that thing is future with her. She finally wants 2 understand herself cause of her sadness she realized that it's different with him but doesn't know just how different but it's good that he helps others find love in different places... It's interesting 2 c what happens with his niece and definitely his nephew in a possible future. Lol
Joey Hu, a mythic nine failed Fox shifter meets his mate Doris. She belongs to the Gang of Four who are Bird, Jen, Godiva and Doris. Doris is going with her family to celebrate Purim. Joey is also in the area searching for Long Cang the red Dragon who wants to take the Oracle stone. He has brought his neice & nephew and Xi Yong, a qilin shifter. I loved the vision of Joey's Fox running in circles yipping mate, mate, mate.
Doris thinks of herself as an old spinster. She is 62 and still a virgin. In walks Joey. Joey is a nine tails fox shifter and after one look realizes that she is his mate. Joey is a professor at the college in their home town. Doris is a school teacher. When they both go to a cabin and a blizzard hits, then Joey meets Doris's family. Joey and Doris are so happy together. Love after 60 years old is a dream come true. On to book 3.
Silver Fox (Silver Shifter Book 2) by Zoe Chant. Doris, a spinster, is Joey Hu’s mate. Doris is on holiday with her family at their cabin when she finds Joey Hu stranded in the snow and invites him and his friends to stay with the family. Joey Hu is hunting a rogue dragon who’s hiding in a house above the cabin. Over the few days they are at the cabin Doris decides to give Joey Hu a chance.
I loved the characters, especially Joey Hu. Talk about a silver fox. He is soft spoken, kind, smart, brave, and patient. I want him! He was very patient with his somewhat insecure true mate. He even braved her large and in your face family. The storyline was just a piece of an overarching plot that did not get resolved in this book.
Joey and Doris...I loved their story. I got lost in the story annulled an all nighter reading it. Fated mates and evil dragons plus crazy family dynamics create a great read. The bonus story was a plus, though I think the characters deserve their own book as well.
I read the first book, Silver Dragon, a few months ago. It was so nice to read a romance with a woman 50+. The Silver Fox, Joey and Doris's story was sweet and funny...a book I recommend for anyone you loves shifters, zany characters, and happy endings...
I read this book immediately after finishing Silver Dragon. I was not ready to leave this world. Joey is a mithic nine tail silver fox who has to win his human mate while locating a rogue shifter. It is a tale of friendship, laughter and love spiced with peril. Now I’m off to read the next book! This world is too wonderful to stop reading about!! I love it!!!
Another romantic adventure, where shifter meets mate late in life and both find unexpected happiness. It was tiresome at first due to the humans insistence upon how unrealistic to expect to find love. Once accepted we find love as the real magic.
Joey finds his mate in 62 year old Doris. Doris is so used to being overlooked that she runs from Joey for about half the book. Doris’ family are quite the characters. Joey is very kind. In this second book, Joey and Mikhail are still chasing Cang. There is a confrontation with Cang near Doris’ family cabin.
I love everything about Doris and Joey! Doris was kind of my fear of how I will be in the future, a virgin at 60 that no one wants as a mate. This story gives me so much hope for myself that there is someone who will like me as I am and that it will never be too late for love.
Loved this original story. An older, mature female virgin and a more seasoned male meet in the winter of their lives, fall in love. Only part wished removed is the useless “drama” of the other dragon. Should have wrapped up with first book. Story would have been great with just the rest. Especially her family drama
So enjoyed this story of elderly love, finally. Zoe Chant always makes her stories interesting for everyone. Joey is on a mission but finds his forever mate, Doris thinks she's to old to find that forever love. Some mystery, family issues and finding each other was such a great read.
I have read many of this author's books and enjoyed them all. But this is one series that gets better with each book. I will be starting book 3 right away. Happy to recommend.
When you are alone in your twilight years it is difficult to think that magic, wonder and love will show up and enrich your life. Zoe Chant is very good at expressing all of it. Thanks!!
Watch out for when your sweet box of protection becomes a cage. Be ready to go for the gold when lightning strikes. Let love renew you. Thank you Zoe. Thank you for Kindle Unlimited, too. Can't wait to get to the next one.
I highly recommend this fantastically imaginative book and the series, especially to readers who are entertained by the supernatural and mature ppl who think life starts at forty. This is an looking uplifting and heartwarming book. Enjoy!
I like the fact that the main characters are mature women, strong in their own right and definitely making their own way in the world. Learning the backstories has been good and adds to the depths of the characters.
Second in the series, and I love this book too! I am older than either of the female protagonists so far, and I really like a good romance with older folks. Just because we are getting older doesn't mean that we can't fall in love. Zoe Chant does a good job getting that message across.
I like Zoe Chant's books. They're predictable and easy to read. However, I can't become interested in geriatric romance. The women in this series are all in their late 50's or early 60's. The heroine of this book is about 63. Just too old to interest me -- and I'm in my late 60's!
