Annie had learned long ago that she could get through just about anything life threw her way. She can even get through being forced from the home she's lived in since she was a child.
She has one more chance to convince the mayor to knock down some other neighborhood for his shopping malls and banks--or she and the three little boys she's in the process of adopting are going to end up homeless.
For shy Annie, the thought of confronting one of the wealthiest men in Finley Creek--one of the handsome, charismatic, larger-than-life Barratts--has her shaking and ready to flee. If the fight weren't so important, Annie would turn and run, avoiding the fire altogether. But Annie can't run this time. She's running out of options. She just has to get through this one meeting--and convince Mayor Turner Barratt to listen to her. Somehow.
Turner Barratt takes one look at Annie Gaines, his last appointment of the day, and can't look away. Innocent, sweet, determined--Annie is one of the strongest, bravest women Turner has ever met. And he feels compelled to help her in any way he can.
Then, the storm hits. The world explodes around them, throwing Annie and Turner into a nightmare neither expects. Long after they're pulled from the rubble, something makes it impossible for him to get her out of his head--even when he should be focused on helping his city recover from the F4 tornado that nearly destroyed Finley Creek.
Now the entire city has to recover, and it's Turner's job to help the citizens do just that. But someone on the city council would rather profit off the disaster than help Finley Creek heal from the storm. And he will stop at nothing to keep Turner from succeeding. Even if it means someone Turner loves will pay the price--someone like Annie.
Calle Jaye is fun, playful, ironic, professional and sophisticated. She’s super-educated in the field of fiction and would spend most of her time walking around in “Book World” (or”eBook World”).
Does she have slight control freak tendencies? Yep. Why else would she chose to self-publish?
In her day job she gets to read romance novels. In her night job she gets to write them!
Her favorite color is bold purple. She likes rock like Kid Rock, Shinedown, and Nickelback. Add in a bit of Anastacia and Adelle, too.
She collects rocks. Watches crime dramas. Abhors Lifetime Movies and Titanic (especially Leo…) and refuses to read or write about sparkly teen vampires.
She’s married to a cop she strongly suspects is a vampire. They’ve made vampire babies, too.
They live in Indiana with their vampire relatives and their vampire dogs.
Annie is a nurse who had to grow up fast due to her difficult childhood. She is now 24 and filing for custody of her 3 foster care boys that she has taken care of for a couple of years. She has a lot on her plate and one more thing added to it. Her home on Bothe Street was about to be demolished in favor of new apartments and stores. She has to fight it, her neighbors are counting on her. However, it means going up against the mayor of Finley Creek who is wealthy and powerful and well why would he listen to little old Annie? She has to try.
Tucker just wants to go home. He has had a long day at the office and he doesn't know why or quite what this meeting is about, it's late. He is immediately captivated by Annie and her big blue eyes and passion for her neighborhood but just when things are wrapping up a tornado hits and they end up trapped in the rubble that was once City Hall.
Tucker wants to help Annie but with the storm and the incredible damage it left behind that isn't much he can do. He can't forget her and as the clean up begins and goods and materials go missing, things heat up for the mayor and Annie is caught in the middle because someone notices the passion they share.
There are many things going on here and well it was full of action and a few twists here and there. Annie is a strong character even if she appears to be vulnerable at times. She is young but she has a maturity about her that makes her seem older, no doubt brought about by her childhood.
We reconnect with favorites from Finley Creek and are left with some mysteries that I hope will be solved in the next book. We are also introduced to some more Barratts and I am hoping they will get stories. There were a few hints as to what the next story could be.
I enjoyed this book and I know that I need to set aside time to read it when I can read it the whole way through without interruptions like my job. I have thoroughly enjoyed these stories and the strong women in them. I hope there is no end in sight.
The next book in the Finley Creek series is here and it’s taken me two days to finish, but I loved it❣️
I love how Calle brings this book across as we obviously read Nikki’s story not that long ago, but the book takes place from the Tornado that hits their town and the recovery thereafter, but comes in from a different perspective which is great and enjoyable as you see events unfolding😍 This story focuses mainly on Annie and the Mayor Turner Barratt and gives us a glimpse into Izzy’s story next❤️
A must read addition to Finley Creek and I’m hoping we get some more stories in the future with Turner’s brothers who are in Finley Creek😇
I purchased this story after reading a sample. It read interesting and exciting. However, once I got, into, the book I realized that you would need to read other stories the author wrote prior to be able to follow it. Too many characters from previous stories move about the book and the author assumes you know the, and the connections, ALOT of characters and their relationships and how they all connect.
This was one of the best books I have read. Calle J. Brookes can really tell a story. I am impressed by the family connections in this little town in Texas. Everybody has their own path - good and bad. I am sorry that the end of this particular saga is coming to a close.
Loved traveling to Finley Creek again. Turner and Annie's novel makes for such a great suspenseful read with lots of action and a wonderful romance. Add in a natural disaster and lots of crossover characters and events it makes the reader feel like they have come home.
There was a lot of back and forth in the book. Sometimes i felt a little too much back story that it could have done without. I do love the action and the endings though!
There is lots of suspense and bad guys in this story. I put it down a few times, because I enough of a bad guy that was the focus at that time in the story. Over all I truly enjoy the story.
The only down side to Cale’s books is that they end and you are stuck waiting for the next one. I loved Annie’s story. Finely Creek has a lot of recovering to do after the storm and more corruption to fight but Calle’s hero’s make you believe that the good guys will eventually win just because they won’t give in.
So much non stop action in this latest adventure from Finley Creek which concentrates on Turner and Annie’s story. It is an extremely well written and entertaining story which I thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend.
