100 Word Horrors Book 4 is another amazing anthology of horror drabbles by Kevin J. Kennedy.

I just cannot get enough of these! These tales are perfect for readers that want to keep them on hand and read one or two every now and again. Of course, you can also cruise right through them all, like I did… I just can’t help myself!

Each tale is so wonderfully written. With each of these collections I’m just amazed at the world these authors can create in just 100 words.

My favorites are the drabbles that start light but then in the very last sentence turn dark.

Per usual with these types of collections, here are my rating breakdowns for each story along with some immediate thoughts/reactions:

Forward
In the quick forward, the author explains that this will be the last in this series for a bit. I totally understand and I’m wicked excited for his other future projects! Of course, if another Drabble collection is out together down the road, I’ll be here for it!

100 Word Horrors: Book 4 is another fantastic collection of horror drabbles brought to you by Kevin Kennedy and the last installment in the 100 Word Horrors series of collections.

If you missed the first three and don’t know what a drabble is, allow me to enlighten you. A drabble is a story of exactly 100 words, not including the title. Basically, it is very precise flash fiction. I was hooked on drabbles after the first edition of 100 Word Horrors. There is something amazing and sinister about an entire horror story being 100 words long.

As with 100 Word Horrors, 100 Word Horrors Part 2, and 100 Word Horrors Book 3, Book 4 is a diverse collection of stories from different horror subgenres. This means that you may not absolutely love every single one, but the book as a whole is a dark treasure of horror drabble indulgence. And I do love to indulge in drabbles.

As I did with Book 3, I will take a moment to mention a few of the drabbles from 100 Word Horrors: Book 4 that stood out to me.

“Swing Low” by Evans Light and “Zombie” by Jackk N. Killington, while nothing alike, are both flowing, sensory shorts of growing horror.

“Lanterns” by Simon Cluett is sick and twisted and fabulous.

“Louie’s Room” by C.M. Saunders is dark and wrenching and horrifying.

“Open Call” by Steve Stred is creative, so creative. It is dark humor at its finest.

“Misadventures of an Aggrieved Recluse” by Eric J. Guignard really spoke to me. Something wicked in me identifies with this story.

“Motivation” by Andrew Lennon makes me wonder what it says about me that it made me laugh out loud.

“Ride Hailing” by ryan Colley is the epitome of modern horror.

I also enjoyed many other drabbles from this excellent collection. Toneye Eyenot and Veronica Smith never disappoint, and Kevin Kennedy has his own fantastic stories herein as well. This collection is an absolute must for flash fiction horror fans.

There are some awesome stories, in this book, but even my least favourite story was still good, I would recommend reading in a bit at a time, so the stories have time to sink in.

One of the things I noticed when reading these anthologies is the placement of the stories. There is such a cohesiveness to the placement - which allows the reading process to flow evenly and with great ease. I’ve mentioned this before in one of my reviews for one of the other editions of this these anthologies, but for some reason this edition seemed to have been given even more attention to the order of the stories. The drabbles were as always brilliant, original and terrifying on many different levels. The array of talent contributing to the collection was once again stellar and included some of the finest Independent Authors out there. This is, as I’ve said of this or any anthology that has various authors, is a wonderful way to get to know authors that you may not have had an opportunity to read previously. It’s also a way to get a look at some work from authors you do know. Original, clever, sinister, eerie, spectral, shadowy, unearthly, incorporeal - just a few adjectives to describe the fantastic collection of stories found within the pages of this tome of masterful drabbles.

The Blurb: 100 Word Horrors: Book 4 brings you over one hundred new drabbles from a wealth of horror authors. Some new, some old, but all great. Each and every one of us hope you have a blast with the final instalment in the series.

Loved it!!!!

I couldn’t wait to get this book. I have read the other three and loved the. With this one I was not disappointed. I am sad that this will be the last one though. I never heard of a drabble until I read volume 1. What I love about how Kevin J Kennedy puts these together, is you get so many sub horror genres in one book. Anything from creatures to plane psycho crazy killing. He states that when he picks these stories that he pics the ones that he enjoys. Well all I have to say is, thank you Mr Kennedy. You have great taste and I will always trust your judgement. So if you are a fan of drabbles or are just in the mood for a quick fun horrific read check it out. Also check out the other three volumes they are equally fantastic.

Kevin J Kennedy has gathered the best drabbles in the world for Book 4. When you only have a couple minutes to read, you can still be horrified. In only 100 words the reader will be terrified and entertained.

Thanks to the author for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I was a bit sad to read the foreword and find out that this is, for now, the last book in the series. I just love to read the 100-word horrors, because you get so many different stories in just one book.

With the 100-word horror stories, I'm always surprised how much worldbuilding can be on just one page. I love the plot twists, and the stories that shock you with the final sentence are definitely my favorites. I'm just drinking all these creative, creepy, gory and scary short stories and as you can see, I rushed through.

Full review can be found at BiteIntoBooks

If you're a horror fan and looking for something fun, creative and creepy to read, I'd recommend one of Kevin J. Kennedy's short story books!

Final drabble.

Mixed emotions about this book. Loved reading it. The quality of stories were just as good as the first in the series. I managed to get involved this time and get a drabble published my first published work. So I am proud of this. Sad that this is the final in the series, I love dropping into these drabbles when out and about or at work. Being transported somewhere different in 100 words, different tales. Scary, deep, sad, happy, a wide range of emotions stirred up from very short stories. As with Friday 13th part 4: Final chapter it wasnt really over and we got 6 more installments and spin offs and remakes. I wait with baited breath for the open submissions to book 5, Drabbles the return.

4.5 stars.

The last in this series, Book 4 was definitely my favourite. I felt like the stories were just consistently engaging and I genuinely loved a large portion of them. Some of these felt like the start of what could be really great novels/novellas. I will cross my fingers that some of these authors expand on these drabbles because they were GOOD.

As always, a few favourites: Extra-Curricular Clone by N.M. Brown (ooh children are creepy), Better of Dead by Zoey Xolton (a sad one), Swing Low by Evans Light (excellent use of a song), Livestock by RJ Meldrum (made me gag a little tbh), The Guest Room by Jack Lothian (subtle House of Leaves vibes), Books-A-Million by David Owain Hughes (this is how I will go one day), The Hunter by Alanna Robertson-Webb (would be great as a longer story!), Bus Home by Russell Smeaton (actually really sad), Diamond Lake Killer by Jack Lothian (another by this author with epic vibes, would be a great movie!) and Ride-Hailling by Ryan Colley (because this is my worst nightmare).

Mostly same ol' same ol' .

Too many zombies and homicidal maniacs, not enough supernatural, cosmic horror. Some mediocre writing. Mostly a collection to just pass the time.
