The Last Thing She Saw...

Rate this book
Fifteen-year-old Noelle’s life is messy. Her dad left when she was little. Her mom would rather be someone’s girlfriend than her mother. And her half-sister pretty much hates her. With so much family drama to deal with, making friends is the last thing on Noelle’s mind. But when she receives a mysterious invitation inviting her to the cemetery at midnight, that all changes… Noelle thought having friends was supposed to make life better but soon finds herself trying to solve a murder instead. And when everyone’s a suspect, it won’t be easy. At least Noelle has a grandma who adores her and a boy in the neighborhood who does too—oh, wait, isn’t he a suspect also? Noelle’s grandma has an unusual gift and Noelle may discover she has a talent of her own.

DNF. I must admit to being intolerant of spelling mistakes (typos, if you’re nice) in the first sentence of a book. Yes, gnarled starts with a g and not a k. I kept reading for a bit, but found the author throwing characters at me without context and the actions being taken by the high school students pretty uncharacteristic of that age group. This one was not for me.

I thought this novel very interesting at the beginning and it certainly had me intrigued. Unfortunately, I felt it waned about two-thirds of the way through and seemed to lose momentum, becoming lost in domestic details.
I don't know how it is in the US, but I'm sure that in the UK, Social Services would be involved if a fifteen-year-old lost her guardian since she would be regarded as a minor. I don't think a child can live alone until they are sixteen and only with adult supervision until they are eighteen. I understood that Noelle was a few months off her sixteeenth birthday, but the lack of involvement in the child welfare system worried me a bit. Perhaps it's different in the US.
Hovever, I did like this story and I am happy to give three stars.

Okay, so I have this issue where I start reading several books at the same time. It's ridiculous and I can't stop. For that reason, it took me far longer than it should have to read The Last Thing She Saw. This is the kind of book that lingers in the brain for a long time, and I was always excited to go back to it. I didn't know who the killer was until Noelle did, and that pleases me. The ending seemed to leave an opening for a sequel, and I very much hope that is the case, because I would like to visit these characters again.

She didn't know but she learned.

This is a year in the life of fifteen year old Noelle. She is shy and naive. Her mom is self-absorbed, so she chooses to live with her grandma. Her grandma has premonitions, which Noelle knows will come true.
A horrific event changes her life drastically. Her grandma thinks Noelle is in danger, so she asks the neighbor boy to walk with her to and from school.
You will love reading this facinating story. The relationships and personalities are so real, you'd almost believe that you know them personally.

Suspenceful

A young girl with cards stacked against her, endures loneliness and heartbreak by her mother and the high school clique group. Her best friend gets murdered and there are so many suspects and few people to trust. Thankfully she has a faithful grandmother and childhood boy friend to support her with the challenges. The murderer is very much a surprise as details to the character are not given to the very end.

OMG

There had better be a follow on this story or I will be awfully angry and disappointed in an author i truly enjoyed reading for the first time. So much drama and mystery and now I hang until I go to the next page . My fingers are crossed and I'm holding my breath. Okay L V make me smile.

Mystery

I loved this teenage mystery. It had hints of Psychic gifts and a strong grandmotherly love.
It was strong on following your gut instincts that I enjoyed. I really want to read more from this author, but don't know if she has written any more books. Loved this one and need more!!!!!

the writing was ok but the story line was annoying and unoriginal. I hate stories about girls playing mean games on each other. At least that part did not last too long in the story. Still, the main character was not intelligent or honest. It took a while before she became more honest with herself and others. The way she uncovered clues towards the end was unbelievable.

Noelle thought having friends was supposed to make life better since her mom only cares about having a boyfriend, so she stays at her wonderful grandmother's house but soon finds herself trying to solve a murder

Great thriller

This story kept you on your toes until the end. Never would have guessed who the killer was. Loved Nolan and Noelle two very different characters. Would definitely recommend this author.

Ok that was an excellent read. Didnt expect that reveal that was a nice one. Sucks that Noelle had so many horrible family experiences. But she was blessed to have some nice people that were there for her.

Couldn’t put this one down. Suspense building with the death of a friend and mystery around who did it keeps one guessing to the end. Family dysfunction, lessons about fitting in, a loving grandmother with super powers , loss, grief, and a budding romance.

hm.

I wanted to love this novel. I did not.
Some parts were totally unrealistic. Part was way more disturbing than it needed to be.

Some good ideas and easy enough to read but felt like it may have been written by a teen. And the ending made the whole thing a bit ridiculous.

A nice quick read. This was a great little thriller, with some mildly paranormal elements.

It did feel very YA at times with teenage angst, but other than that it was enjoyable and easy to overlook, as it wasn't necessarily meant for my age range. Kept you on your toes and was nicely wrapped up at the end, with no torturous cliffhanger, or storylines left unresolved.

Would definitely recommend this read

I'm going to say that this was an OK book. Not one that I cared much for.

To begin with ….. no one would allow a teenage girl to live in a house by herself. The Welfare Dept. would have been right there to get her and place her somewhere until she became of age to be out on her own. They don't let kids live by their selves.
I also knew from the get go, that the police had arrested the wrong person for this girls murder and
I had already guessed who done it.

I am glad that this was a free book, because if I had had to pay for it, I would have been very disappointed.
