As with all anthologies, this one has some pieces that I prefer over others, but there are some powerful essays in here. As a collection focused on South America, this is a feminism often distinct in context and references from what I have read from Anglo and French theorists. I am familiar with some of the authors’ other work, such as Liliana Colanzi and Magela Baudoin, and am excited to check out work from some of the others, particularly Valeria Canelas.
The highlights, for me, were the essays by the three authors I mentioned above as well as Fabiola Morales Franco and Paola R Senseve T. They discuss violence and self-perception, anger and social expectations, building and tearing down. They cover a lot of ground, and don’t pull any punches about the shit they deal with along the way.
I don’t know if any of these are published elsewhere, but some definitely deserve a wider audience. If you’re interested in reading about the female experience in South America, pick this collection up.
