Savage Bay Nightmare

Rate this book
When Lucy Hush’s brother is framed for murder, the race is on to find the real culprit.

Tim Hush is a drifter who prefers the solitude of the vast Australian wilderness to human company. But he falls for an attractive woman he meets by chance when camping on a beach.

Soon, however, he will find himself in custody for her murder.

Knowing that her brother’s mental health is unstable, but equally sure this gentle soul could never harm anyone, investigative journalist Lucy heads to the small coastal town of Savage Bay.

Exonerating her brother will entail piecing together the truth about what happened that one fateful evening when Faith Alison was killed in her home.

Aided by Damon, her dependable boyfriend, Lucy begins to get noticed by the townsfolk. But not all of them will welcome her presence.

Trying to help her brother will put her in danger. Was Lucy right to have such trust in him? And when she does discover the truth, will it be too late to put things right?

SAVAGE BAY NIGHTMARE is the third book by Anna Willett to feature investigative journalist Lucy Hush. It can be enjoyed as a standalone. The other two books, SMALL TOWN NIGHTMARE and COLD VALLEY NIGHTMARE are available on Kindle and in paperback from Amazon.

Lucy Hush and her brother Tim were close. They’d lost their parents at a young age and Lucy took over her brother’s care. Tim was a wanderer who loved his dog Angus and preferred solitude to crowds. He was innocent and naïve in many ways, loved his sister and respected and admired her boyfriend, PI Damon. But it was when he was befriended by Faith while camping on the beach at Savage Bay that Tim’s nightmare began.

With Tim accused of murder, Lucy knew immediately she needed to find the real killer before Tim spent the rest of his life in prison. The evidence was clear – the police had arrested Tim with no thought of looking elsewhere. So it was up to Lucy and Damon. But would they find the evidence they needed? With Lucy in Savage Bay and Damon in Queensland, Lucy knew it was up to her. But the danger she was heading for – but didn’t realise it – was real. What would be the outcome for Lucy and her brother Tim?

Savage Bay Nightmare is the 3rd in the Lucy Hush series by Aussie author Anna Willett and I couldn't put it down! Lucy is an investigative reporter, prone to putting herself in danger. She’s a strong, determined young woman, loyal and kind, always up for finding the answers. Twists and turns mix with malevolence and fear in this gritty crime thriller which I thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend.

I very much struggled to put this down. I recalled enough about the characters from the previous two books that I was about to place them all in my head very quickly, even with the action starting to kick off early. This deliciously allowed me to build up a bunch of assumptions, and then cheerfully tore them all to pieces in front of me during the climax, which was both gripping and delicious. I was glad I wasn't able to work out the antagonist before the reveal, but to me, the resolution was way too short and deserved more. I will have to certainly to have to look for more by this author.

Lucy's brother is on trouble again, having been charged with murder. This series is growing stronger with every story and the characters are terrific. The writer really knows how to ramp up the tension and the action sequences are very well described. Will look out for the next in the series

What a great read

Another great book. This one had me intrigued until the very end. The twist I didn’t see coming. It was interesting to read about locations in my home town of Townsville. I enjoyed the background stories of the villains from retired police officers and family members. It was well thought out and executed. I’m hoping (from the way it ended) that we see more books in this series with Lucy and Damon.

I have enjoyed each and every story in the Lucy Hush series, and this one is brilliant too! I would love to see her again. This was an absolute page-turner. I was captivated from the very first page and couldn't put this book down. I never seen the plot twist at all, Anna Willett is the master in keeping you guessing, and you will not see the ending coming. Thrilling, suspenseful and twists upon twists! I highly recommended this author.

A great detective mystery set in Australia

I really loved the cast of characters, detectives, suspects and the villains too. But, and perhaps this is a function of my advanced years, I did find some difficulty keeping up with these characters. I am slightly familiar with both Australian !ovations And I am a New Zealander so the settings were good for me.

Love this series.

Anna Willett pulls you into a story with exceptional writing. The characters are wonderfully developed and the descriptive writing of each scene is outstanding. Suspenseful from the beginning the story ratchets up to a surprising conclusion. I highly recommend any book by this author.

Good Read

Lucy and Damon come alive in Western Australia on these pages by Anna Willett. Another tight plot which I didn’t unravel for quite some time. Will there be a book #4?

Plot okay but the writing is pedestrian, characters dull. I skimmed quickly over the boring, repetitive parts. Won’t be reading any more books by this author, even if they are only 99 cents kindle specials.

This is a well-crafted story with tension building throughout. Lucy and her lover, Damon, try to exonerate Lucy's brother, who is accused of murder. The evidence is pretty damning but the more Lucy and Damon dig, the more the case looks like an elaborate setup that parallels the case when the dead lady's husbands last wife was murdered. It is a very intricate story with many twists and lots of peaks of terror. Anna Willett is a master at creating horror and tension. There are a few issues at the end, including a personal twist for Lucy and Damon that seems unnecessary and sudden. There are also often instances where the characters have information that is not shared with the reader, which I find frustrating and which prevents the reader from having any chance of solving the puzzle before the end. Nevertheless, the book is a true page turner and will keep you on the edge of your seat. Don’t make any plans once you start this book; you will not want to put it down.

I was thrilled to get hold of the third book in the Lucy Hush series! Another twisty turny thriller with plenty of surprises. Anna Willet knows how to create a creepy atmosphere and then keep you guessing.

Lucy investigates a gruesome murder as Damon tracks down threads of information on the main suspect. It was fun to read about some of my favourite characters as well as getting to know a few new faces.

Really enjoyed it!

Another intense encounter with Lucy Hush whose hapless brother gets himself into another serious scrape. Much of the drive of this exciting book lies in knowing that something bad is going to happen, not knowing what, but thinking with growing dread about all that could transpire. As it turns out, it is an excellent twist.

Anna Willett has excelled herself with this thrilling novel. Right form the first chapter, the author builds suspense which continues throughout the story to the very end. You really will not be able to put this one down. If you like knotty plots and story lines that will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand out - this is the one for you. Highly recommended!

Scary moments and an even scarier villain. All the things that make Willett’s books a must read for me.

This story starts off with a bang and never lets up. Great characters and fabulous settings not to mention a fascinating crime investigation. An unputdownable thriller that doesn’t disappoint!
