Sink your teeth the dark side with these two delicious paranormal romances by USA Today Bestseller Lauren Smith.
The Bite of Winter:
Zoey Blake is about as far down on her luck as she can get. A car crash took her parents, leaving her destitute and on the street. When she’s attacked by another homeless person, her lifeblood drains away as her fading vision is filled with the face of a handsome stranger.
Ian Kennedy, a century old Irish vampire, never could resist rescuing a stray. As a few drops of his blood heals Zoey’s wounds, he realizes she’s a sweet, tempting, flesh-and-blood woman. But there’s one problem. Connor, who made Ian promise decades ago: no more mortal lovers. After another vampire murdered his soulmate, Connor O’Shea swore never to let a mortal woman pay the price for loving him. Until he feels Zoey’s skin and tastes her lips. She makes him want to break that vow.
Zoey finds herself caught in their web of seduction. But as Christmas draws near and her grief deepens, happiness seems far out of reach. And Ian and Connor join forces to prove their love is sacred, special…and forever.
His Little Vixen:
Sadie Harris doesn’t like immortals. After vampires leave her an orphan, she’s raised by her grandmother at the edge of a werewolf pack’s territory. As a fox shifter, she knows the rules about werewolves: Stay clear of the boundaries, never go out after dark during the full moon and take a vacation far, far away when she goes into her shifter mating heat or else she’ll attract literal “big bad wolves.” But when her flight gets cancelled and her mating heat is coming - so are the wolves. The last thing she expects is to get rescued by a tall, dark and gorgeous man…er…vampire. What’s a vixen to do?
Seamus Gallagher might be immortal but his life is full of mortal problems: he’s been framed for the murder of the woman his two best friends loved; he's on a mission to find and kill his sire; and, he has no idea what to do with the feisty red-headed vixen he just rescued from a vicious werewolf pack. He doesn't have time to babysit a skittish shifter who hates vampires, but when he looks at her, Seamus sees trouble. Sexy, sweet, and irresistible trouble. The last thing this vamp needs is to fall in love.

Zoey Blake is about as far down on her luck as she can get. Her parents died in a car crash when the car Zoey was driving skidded off the road, leaving her destitute and on the street. When she’s attacked by another homeless person, her lifeblood drains away as her fading vision is filled with the face of a handsome stranger. Ian Kennedy, a centuries old Irish vampire, never could resist rescuing a stray. As a few drops of his blood heals Zoey’s wounds, he realizes she’s a sweet, tempting, flesh-and-blood woman. But there’s one problem. Connorwho is like a brother to Ian & who made Ian promise decades ago: no more mortal lovers. After another vampire murdered his soulmate Lara, Connor O’Shea swore never to let a mortal woman pay the price for loving him. Until he feels Zoey’s skin and tastes her lips. She makes him want to break that vow. This isn’t my normal genre of book to read but I love the author’s other books. I found I loved this too. I found it more a story of loneliness & of finding love. The vampires are gorgeous & Zoey soon realised that she loved both of them. A short read – I wished it was longer, but a very good introduction to the series.
His Little Vixen 5 Stars
Sadie Harris is a fox shifter & after vampires left her an orphan, she was raised, by her grandmother Sara, at the edge of a werewolf pack’s territory. She knows the rules about werewolves: Stay clear of the boundaries, never go out after dark during the full moon and take a vacation far, far away when she goes into her shifter mating heat or else she’ll attract literal “big bad wolves.” But when her flight gets cancelled and her mating heat is coming - so are the wolves. Whilst fleeing the wolf pack she’s almost run over by a tall, dark and gorgeous guy on a motorbike, he rescues her but it’s her worst nightmare when she discovers he's a vampire. Or is it? Seamus Gallagher might be immortal but his life is full of mortal problems. He has no idea what to do with the feisty red-headed vixen he just rescued from a vicious werewolf pack. He doesn't have time to babysit a skittish shifter who hates vampires, but when he looks at her, Seamus sees trouble. Sexy, sweet, and irresistible trouble. OK I’m not a lover of shifter novels but I love the author’s books & have found that no matter what she writes I love it, mainly because of the story but first & foremost because of the characters. I was drawn in from the start & totally engrossed all the way through. I read it in two sittings. I loved Seamus & Sadie so different but destined to be mated for life. It was good to catch up with Ian, Connor & Zoey too. The twist with Sara also added to the story & I'm now looking forward to Dracen's story I read both of these books when they were originally released separately
I listened to the audiobook and the narrator did a good job.
The Bite of Winter - 3 star listen M/F/M - quick low angst book His Little Vixen: - 3 star M/F - another quick low angst listen These were enjoyable books and I plan to continue with the series once the next book is released.
The Bite of Winter is an introduction of Ian, Connor and Zoey’s erotic, romance series. I certainly did enjoy the heat that this story brought. I really did like Ian and Zoey’s love story. It was sweet and beautiful. It didn’t read as a forced romance. I look forward to reading more about their story. Connor is a bad boy through and through. I found his scenes with Zoey a bit rough and dominating. Perhaps that is what the writer was wanting to project with his character. The writer did share a little of his background story to give the reader some answers to why his character is portrayed that way. I look forward to hearing his own story separately from Ian and Zoey. Zoey, i would like to read more of her character being a strong character. Give her some toughness. That’s the kind of woman I picture for Ian. To me she read as a week, to reliant on strangers that she just met. I’m glad she’s a lover for Ian, but I feel that her character can bring more. Make her a bad a*s.
Vixen, by Lauren Smith was amazing to read. I was excited to see that Sadie, the leading lady is a strong character for Seamus. It was a perfect fit. Seamus himself, is such a strong character in this book. First let me say that Lauren Smith’s fantasy paranormal romance writing is the stuff of an awesome writer. Clearly Lauren can show her readers her talent as a writer, by being able to transition between genres, and still captivate her audience with great writing. I was very surprised that I loved the love story between Seamus and Sadie. The plot that joins these two together is very realistic for this type of fantasy writing. I’m so glad that Sadie didn’t come off as some young adult, whose a naive character. I got my fill of action, drama, steamy bed scenes and romance from this book. I would have like to read more bedroom scenes, with more details. Maybe we will read more in future books. I was so drawn into the background story of Seamus. Boy that was heart cringing. Inserting the story of him and his sister and their survival, made me enjoy reading the story even more. I’m excited to read the next release. Again, with Zoey’s character, she comes off as a bit flaky at times. Its as though her character was the youngest one in the group who couldn’t connect with the seriousness of the drama that was happening around them. Ian, I feel that he needs a strong woman, just like Seamus has. I also see Ian as a leader, just like Seamus. Conner is still up in the air for me. Maybe, in future books Zoey will come into her own. Do not think that I didn’t enjoy this book. I very much recommend this book. I’m excited to read about Dracen’s story and where he came from. From the epilogue, he has some issues that he must deal with. Until next time my fellow readers...read on! I voluntary reviewed this ARC after receiving a free gifted copy.
This is the first two books in the Love Bites series. I do have to say they were quick and easy to read but did go a little past normal on the romance level.
