Sons of Anarchy meets Grease

Danika is a sophomore in college. She’s super organized and knows what she wants. She even has a five and ten-year life plan.
Dani's goal of keeping her nose in her textbooks and getting impeccable grades has served her well. Made her parents proud. Kept her on a path toward the white-picket fence and clean-cut husband she always dreamt she wanted. The life her parents wanted for her more than anything.

Until she sees Max pull up to campus on his bike.

Max is the president of the Red Thorns, the toughest motorcycle crew in Ann Arbor.
He took over during a time of turbulence and has restored balance and the closest thing to peace men like him can achieve. He’s a steady and fierce leader who leaves no room for error and commands the respect of his men.
Everything is running smoothly for him and his crew until they take a new job and find themselves back in the kind of hot water Max has been working hard for three years to avoid.

When a girl enters the picture, things are made infinitely more complicated.

Suddenly, Max has more to worry about - and protect - than he thought he did. There’s danger on the horizon, and there’s nowhere to go but forward.

God the h’s friend was so damn irritating.

The H and h just met, and the h’s friend is already convincing the h to lose her virginity to the bad boy. Are you serious ? And why does she keep on bringing that subject? And then constantly forcing her to attend a party. She even stops the h from reading books so that they can get ready for a party AGAIN. Hello...the h just woke from a hangover from last party and the slut friend is already forcing her to get ready for tonight party. Are you serious?
It’s girl like these that I absolutely hate.

The H is a whore. He is in lust with the h. But that doesn’t stop him from waking up sandwiched between two girls.
Yuck. I hate such books.
Please authors there are still girls like me who loves a devoted guy who has eyes only for his girl.
And such dirty disgusting books should stay the hell out of my way.

Overall Opinion: I’ve heard of this author and I’ve had some of her books marked to read. But this is the first book I’ve read from her. Two issues as to why I rated it a TWO STARS.
One, some scenes were too detailed. For instance, the author went into detail of how the h and her best friend set up their Roku to their TV including saying the password and everything. That really wasn’t necessary. I didn’t need a PSA on how to set up my Roku.
Two, If you are expecting an MC (motorcycle club) book, don’t expect too much. The premise of the book is about a girl who falls for a MC guy, but because the MC world building in this book is underdeveloped, I couldn’t get into it. It is more like a group of guys who ride bikes more than a motorcycle club. There are barely any scenes of the H acting as a club president or doing club activities with his crew. The H’s backstory and that of the club was lacking and left me with too many questions that I couldn’t enjoy the story. Questions such as:
1.Why did the H’s father leave/got kicked out of the MC that the father founded?
2.After he was kicked out, how did he become super rich?
3. Why did the MC still work for the H’s father - because isn’t that embarrassing. They were to be feared in all of Ann Arbor, but they were still relying on the guy they kicked out for money.
4. The H said they made Ann Arbor safer than when his father was president, but they still worked for his father and he made them do shady things, so how does that work?
5. Towards the end of the book, H’s cousin and father tell him to stay away from h because she is a distraction. But for the majority of the book, he and the h are not together. H does everything he was supposed to do for the club and his father, so how was the h distracting the H?
6. After a job, the H gets a flesh wound. He goes to the dorm to look for a med student to help him. What kind of established MC have no doctors that they have paid under the table or something?

BUT, I need to praise her for using an half Asian character. It’s rare to read romance books with interracial main characters.

Recommend Reading: Go for it. Don’t expect to fall in love with the characters.

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is a story of the h, Danika (Dani) Young, and the H, Max Ryddle. The names are a cute take on Grease - Danny Zuko and Rydell High. Dani is a half Asian American college sophomore at the University of Michigan. Her father is a successful pharmacist and her mother a successful interior designer. She is basically from a perfect family; her parents love each other and they love her and they give her whatever she wants or needs, though she isn't spoiled. Her parents are somewhat strict. They wanted her to be in medical school, but she decided to change her degree to Human Resources. They tell her that her priorities in college are to study and graduate. Definitely no boys. She is moving to her new dorm with her best friend, Hannah, when she meets Max. Him and his bike crew are hanging around the campus dorm. Their eyes meet and they feel something. It doesn’t state it as a connection or that it’s love, but they feel an attraction. Max is the president of the Red Thorns motorcycle gang in Ann Arbor. The Red Thorns are supposedly this scary, shady biker club. It used to be shadier when Max’s father was the president, but he says it’s less shadier with him at the helm. His older brother, John, was the president after his father, but he had an accident where he can no longer ride a motorcycle so that is why Max is now president. Max’s backstory is slowly revealed. Since it ends with a cliffhanger, there are a lot of Max’s backstory we still need to understand. Hopefully we get it in the second book. While Max is not in college, his cousin, Benji, is and his dorm is in the same building as Dani’s. Benji wants to join the MC, but Max wants more for him, yet Max and his crew keep showing up on campus, which is why Dani and Max keep meeting. Max tries to stay away from Dani because he thinks he is too dark for her and he doesn’t want to pull her into his dangerous world. Dani, in the meantime, tries to deny her feelings for him to no avail as she keeps thinking about him. Benji constantly harasses her. At first, it was pretty innocent. He teases her for being a “goody-two shoes”. But eventually, he starts to be physical - by grabbing her arm and telling her to stop distracting Max. Max comes to her rescue. Eventually, they can’t stay away from each other and start to go on dates. After they finally have sex (she loses her virginity to him), he takes her back to her dorm where he is attacked. They drive off somewhere to safety and that is where the book ends. I think Benji and his father are the people behind the attack.

Book Cover: 3 out of 5. I like the font and dark colors as it matches the book theme. But the h in the book was half Asian and had no tattoos, so it was off theme in that regards.

Point Of View (POV): It went back and forth each chapter between h, Dani and H, Max.

Overall Pace of Story: The beginning was slow, but it increased once the h and H started getting together.

Instalove: Somewhat - they caught each other's eyes and felt something.

Age: Not sure - both in their early 20s? The h, Dani, was a college sophomore.

H (Hero) rating: 1 out of 5. Max was not swoon-worthy. He has a really, terrible father. Max hates him, but does nothing to get out of the situation he and his club has with his father, who still controls him and the club because he provides them with jobs and paychecks. Why?!?! He does play the “woe is me” card a little. I think he is tired of the MC life, but doesn’t know how to get out or if he even wants to/can leave. He cares for his brother (John), his cousin (Benji), and his club and is willing to risk his life for them. But why did he and his crew keep hanging out in the dorm campus? He didn’t even go to college and he wanted his cousin to not join the club. Why didn’t he hang out in his club instead?

Book Boyfriend Material/OTT Alpha: I would not consider him a book boyfriend material. There was nothing swoon-worthy. More like a beta.

h (heroine) rating: 4 out of 5. Dani has a good head on her shoulder. Her best friend (Hannah), Benji, Max, and his club makes fun of her for being basically a nerd and having a loving, stable family, but she sticks to her gun. It was tiring when her best friend kept trying to make her lose her virginity, but I am glad Dani chewed her out by saying “When I’m ready, it’ll happen. But it won’t happen until I’m ready.”.....“I won’t let you dictate who I have sex with and when.” (stand up and slow clap from me.) I can tell she is really sheltered and she wants to let down her hair a little, which is why she is so attracted to Max, but why then get your degree in Human Resources? She honestly deserves someone better.

Angst/Sadness level: No angst or sadness.

Push/Pull: Push from H, Max. He didn’t want to pull her into his dark world. Somewhat pull from both.

Heat level: I didn’t really feel the connection between the two. They were both on each other’s minds constantly, but they were able to stay away from one another. I feel like if one of them permanently moved away, they would forget each other after 6 months.

Descriptive sex: Yes, between h and H.

OW (Other Woman)/OM (Other Man) drama: No ow/om drama.

Sex scene with OW or OM: Ok, soooo this is another reason why I didn’t like the H, Max. After they meet and they are both in each other’s minds, Max attends a dorm party where he sees the h, Dani. He is wrapped around two college girls and they talk. He laughs at Dani and asks if she is jealous. The next scene, he wakes up with both girls wrapped around him. I assumed he had sex with both girls. Yeah, Max and Dani weren't officially together yet, but their connection was already made. For him to so easily sleep with others, UGH. UGH!

Birth Control/Condoms: No mention of birth control. No condom with h (which is gross since he is a manwhore).

Cheating: Depends on how you perceive cheating. H and h are not together yet, but he slept with college girls.

Love Triangle: No.

Separation: They stayed away from each other before they started to date.

Virgin/Celibate/Manwhore: h is a virgin and H is a manwhore.

Possible Pet Peeves/Triggers: H sleeps with two college girls after he meets h.

Closure: Ends in a cliffhanger.

Safety: 2 out of 5 for the safety gang. H sleeps with two college girls after he meets h and there are some scenes where details of his past manwhorishness are told to the h.

Sublime!

Holy Guacamole!!! I need the next book! What a wonderful story filled with twists and turns and love and bullying and sex .
Over the last year or so the “bully” high school/ college genre has been inundated with books. At first I really enjoyed reading them however it didn’t take long for me to grow bored. I found the majority of them to be very similar to one another , and juvenile in nature.
With all that in the back of my mind I still wanted to give this one a chance after reading the synopsis. I am extremely thankful I did!
I don’t know how Hart does it but she has written something so original, I wasn’t prepared for the onslaught of feelings I would have! The storyline and characters have such an adult feel. I was completely able to understand the different characters motivations and the love story between Max and Dani gave me all the feels!
If you’re a fan of bad boys with good girls or you like a bit of suspense in your romance, I can’t recommend this book enough! This is not your typical high school/college “bully “ romance, NO !!! This is something more , something beyond that and it’s sublime!

I had to DNF

I somehow expected more than this bad attempt at "suspenseful NA" read, cause it was in fact a let down in atmosphere, in characterization, in dialogue...practically in everything that matter...

at times it was almost funny, but not in a "ha-ha" kind of way...

example:

the h "stands up" for herself to the supposed bully by saying smth like this:
"Who do you think you are...blah, blah, who gives you the right to call me names...blah, blah..."

and those mentioned "names" that the said bully is calling the h, are...*drum rolls please*
Daddy's girl and Bambie

i mean, if this book is for the pre-teens (ages 11-14) than sure...
but I am not digging this whole "edgy" stuff, here...I mean, are you for real?!

so, with all due respect, i ain't even gonna rate this one...

5 stars for Red Thorns by Rebel Hart. This is book 1 in the Red Thorns Crew Series. Holy crap this cliffhanger. Wow Max and Dani, I do not even know where to start. So, this is a bully MC romance, but not in the typical sense. It is not the hero who is the bully. Max is the bad boy Red Thorns president, and Dani is an innocent good girl. These two are total opposites but they are drawn to each other. They have chemistry that jumps off the page at you. Dani is starting to come into her own, learn who she wants to be. “That’s what makes a girl a woman, Confidence. Knowing herself, being unafraid to take what she knows and make it her own.” I do not want to spoil anything, so I’ll stop here. This book was an amazing read and I am looking forward to the rest of the series. Starting book 2 now, I need to find out what happens to Max and Dani.

College romance with a bad boy hero. Danika is the definition of a good girl, innocent, daddy's girl. She is in college, moving into her dorm, when she encounters Max. Max is around the college, obviously in some kind of gang/group. He and his buddies rides around on their motorcycles and they don't sell cookies door to door. The do more questionable things on the side.

Max sees her and feels all kinds of everything with her. He's trouble for her and he knows it. He doesn't want someone that perfect to be tainted by him. He is in charge of his group and responsibility is big on him. His father though, created that group, and treats him terribly. This story was interesting. It is a cliffhanger. I enjoyed it but I did notice some unneccessary details, but overall I'd like to see what happens with their story.

🤩🤩🤩

I must admit, I struggle with MC guys. Yes, they’re the bad boys of our dreams, but they treat women like a commodity to be bought, sold and traded. But I also must say, there’s something about Max that’s completely wonderful. He doesn’t have that quality—you know the one, where he’s a complete dick and he’s totally wrong for you and will probably wreck your life but you wanna sleep with him anyway? No? Just me? Ok then. Max is an enigma in a world where everything is black and white. But then, so is Dani. She is a rare rose in a garden of weeds. Untouched by the craptastic garbage surrounding her. Pure and untarnished. They absolutely compliment each other. The ultimate Romeo and Juliet. So that’s the question. Can they make it out alive? Together?

At this point, dear friends, if it says “by Rebel Hart” on the cover, read it. That’s a mark of a guaranteed amazing book!!

Well this is the first book that I have read from Rebel Hart and I can honestly say that I am a fan for life. This book had me after the first chapter. The instant attraction between Max and Dani is there. Oh my, it is a slow build and when everything starts happening it gets so good. This series is going to be amazing. I love MC series and this is different than others out there. There is a lot of action and twist going and will keep you on the edge of the seat. I cannot wait to read the next book.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is the first book in the Red Thorns Crew series, and the story of Max, and Danika. Max is your typical bad boy, and Danika is the good girl, trying to spread her wings, and when she meets Max, they have immediate attraction. Max, and Danika are definitely opposites attract, but when they have great chemistry, and i was intrigued by their story. This book was intense, twisted, action-packed, suspenseful, dramatic, steamy, and emotional. I can't wait to read the next book.

Rebel Hart does it again with another incredible, gripping and fast paced story of romance and bullying. I loved how this is sons of anachy meets grease type of style. I loved the characters of Dani and Max, they are both so different but are totally drawn together. Bring on book two

Really enjoyed this unsuspecting story, I originally thought it would be a typical storyline but I was thrown many curveball to lead me off the path and into destruction. A story of self finding and the struggles that are found on the way.

Red Thorns : The book that was cooked medium rare.

You're probably wondering what I mean with the book being cooked medium rare and trust that I have a simple explanation, that much like a medium-rare steak, the chances of it giving you bacteria you don't want is high.

All in all, this book was, for lack of better term absolutely physically painful. I cringed so many times throughout, I think my back is about to crack permanently. There are so many things that I just want to point out in this book, so I warn for spoilers I guess.

1) Hannah, the heroine's best friend, is an absolutely horrible friend. Every time she opened her mouth, I wanted her to go jump off a bridge in like Chelmsford, UK, or something. Nothing she said made remotely any type of sense, and most of the time she was just talking about how Danika, the heroine, needed to get out more and sleep around... WHICH IS SOMETHING DANIKA WAS AGAINST.

Also, she's kind of the typical best friend, which is annoying. The one who's very two-dimensional and is only here to ship and then disappears halfway through the book because she's not important anymore. In fact, she's Danika's roommate, and on the night Danika succumbs to Max's big dick energy, she's so unimportant, that Danika doesn't even call her to let her know that she won't be at the dorm with her and that she wasn't going to come back. Clearly, her role as the best friend had been done because the main character managed to get laid.

2) I hated how they pegged Max to be a bad boy when he was a CRIMINAL. There are no six ways to actually put it. Maxwell is a CRIMINAL. Not a bad boy a CRIMINAL, and not a very good one at that. In all conplete honesty, if they were going to make him a criminal, a gang leader (we're not going to talk touch upon the fact that that was the most idiotic shit of 2020) as a matter of fact, they should've made him more of that and anything else. When I see this, it's always like a great opportunity to delve into how the gang works, the different power dynamics, the good, the bad, the dirty and all the delicious nitty-gritty stuff. BUT NO. REBEL HART DECIDED THAT THAT WASN'T IMPORTANT.

A good example of delving into the gang world and still writing an amazing love story was Walk the Edge by Katie McGarry, where Razor, the main character, wasn't even the gang leader, but we knew the ins and outs of the gang, how they operated what they did and everything in between. It wasn't all gunfights and shut-the-hell-ups.

But back to my point, this criminal, threat to society was painted as nothing but a bad boy, and of course, I understand that the main character is a naive piece-of-shit, but still. Wearing leather and smoking doesn't make someone a bad boy. Frankly, smoking gives them Chronic Bronchitis and Emphysema, but like fine. And wearing leather in summer makes someone a douchebag trying to hard to act like he's from Grease. But seriously, I hate the whole thing about how he can get better and whatnot, and how he wants to be nice to her when he almost died TWICE. What the shit?

3) I hated the one sex scene in this book. It was so cringy and weird and disgusting. It could've been cut out completely, but no, we got the sexy-times that we definitely didn't need. MOST BOOKS DON'T NEED SEX SCENES and this was one of them. During the scene, like she squirted and whatnot, and for like seven lines I thought she really was peeing, and that the dude liked to be doused in her pee. It was all sorts of disturbing and I had to put the book down, recompose myself and bravely soldier on.

4) The ending is absolute trash. It opens up on the last bit which is where book 2 picks up from, but it's probably the worst cliffhanger in all eternity. It doesn't even make you want to read the second book, because to be honest, whoever beat up Max gave him what he deserved, but whatever, we don't talk about that. Max got severely wounded by goons, who were clearly sent by Benji because like it was very obvious that it was fucking Benji, and obviously he survives because Danika finds him and whatnot, and it ends and they're driving off to go get him some help. And no, I know what you're thinking, there's no car chase, Danika doesn't have to lose some goons, even though she doesn't have the brain capacity to do that.

Seriously, the ending of the book is more boring than the entirety of this book.

All in all, I think now you understand what I meant.

this book was cooked medium fucking rare

I am disappointed. Reading the synopsis, it promised a good story that will pique your curiosity but once you read the first few chapters, you want to throw the book or e-reader. I’ve had enough of the basic typical heroine who is goody two shoes, clumsy, innocent, virgin, has inferiority complex who suddenly falls for a bad boy and is now doing unimaginable things. Danika is the most annoying character I’ve read this month. She’s nothing compared to other heroines I’ve read (Celaena of The Throne of Glass or Henley Bronx of Haven Falls or Skylah Daniels of Ugly Girl Aston Creek High and even Tatum Brandt of Bully will just laugh at her)

The only way this book somehow made it to 2 stars is because of Max’s POV. I don’t like Max but I guess I appreciate that we get to see Max’s world and what he thinks.

But don’t let me stop you from reading this. If you’re a fan of good-girl-falls-for-bad-boy stories then this is perfect for you.

I want the heroine to be feisty and not succumb to the hero’s wishes and needs easily. It’s just me so don’t let me stop you. Enjoy ♡︎

Danika Young - half Korean half American, is a sophomore college student who gets ready to move away from her folks to live at the dorm near the campus. She’s the typical boring heroine - goody-good shoes, virgin, falls for a bad boy, ditched studies to explore the world of the bad boy, very dramatic, clumsy, innocent, and just dumb.

Hannah - Danika’s BFF and roommate who only knows when and where the party’s at, pressures Dani to give away her vcard to random strangers because for her that’s how spending college years should be. The idiot BFF.

Maxwell Ryddle - The bad boy. The typical pompous jackass. A chain-smoker, wears leather even if it’s freaking sunny, rides his bike and keeps revving the engine to scare off students, who doesn't go to school but can always be seen loitering in the campus which is super weird, a player who tosses and discards ladies just because he’s the boss or so he says, the president of his gang or crew formed by his father. I would’ve liked Max but the author clearly tried her best to make us love Max... but I just can’t.

Ashton Ryddle - The owner of the crew. Father of Maxwell and John, who does nothing but scare his sons. What an asshole dad he is. Asks Maxwell to complete a job (a job to escort his business partner but goes shady and results in crossfire) and yet didn’t pay Maxwell and his minions just because the business partner doesn’t want to pay. What kind of business partner doesn’t complete the end of the bargain?

John Ryddle - Former president of the crew, got crippled because of a job that was given by his cruel father. Older brother of Maxwell. I can say John is a great brother to Maxwell, but when it comes to his father he seems to forget he has his own will.

Benji - Cousin of Maxwell and John. A prude college boy who always wanted to be in the crew. The guy you dont want to be with because of his jealousy and killer instincts.

Lord where to start, this book is incredible, Rebel always pulls me in with her stories. This is a slow burner so please keep that in mind when purchasing and reviewing this book.

I loved the Story between Danika and her best Friend Hannah, there relationship is exactly the way young college girls are with their best friends pushing and pulling them in and out of their comfort zones.
Max – president of the Red Thorns MC
Danika – young college girl – who just wants to study and get good grades.
Danika and Max meet early in the book with Danika becoming the flustered young girl when a hot biker decides to put her in his line of sight. The relationship between these two is sweet and takes a while for the fire to ignite but you can feel it coming off the pages of the book before the relationship starts to burn like a wild fire. Dani as the typical good girl tries to fight her attraction to Max but when her eyes land on him it’s like all logic and common sense goes out the window.
Dani’s parents (dad mainly) are overprotective, of Dani being away at college but she needed to find her own person. which Dani is unsure of, she isn’t sure if she is the perfect daddy’s girl or if she is mummy’s little rebel (see what I did there 😉.) With the help of Max and Hannah, Dani can start to find herself and who she really is. This story is about a girl finding herself in a way she never imagined.
Max doesn’t care for the women he is intimate with, but Danika brings out that side of him, he never cares for anything but his crew and the jobs he has to complete, but now he has something to worry about. It’s too late for him to hide his feelings because the most dangerous person he knows, now knows about his feelings for Danika, can he keep her safe from the danger?
The story ends on a cliff hanger but boy does that cliff hanger leave you wanting more and more. I need me some Max in my life, he brings nothing but danger and hotness. These are the types of books I love to read, the ones that pay attention to details and keep you sucked in wanting more and more until before you know it, it’s 5AM and you have to shower and get ready for work

Red Thorns is the first book in a planned trilogy about a motorcycle club of the same name. Specifically, we meet Max, the MC's president, and Dani, the innocent college girl.

Summary:
Danika had a life plan. Certain goals and achievements she needed to obtain to have the life she always wanted. She needed to keep her head down, nose in her books and then she'd have everything she ever dreamt of, including the clean-cut husband. She starts her sophomore year with confidence in her plans, until she sees him. Max is big, rough, and dangerous. He has to be, to be the president of the toughest MC in Ann Arbor, the Red Thorns. All Danika's plans fade in the face of the electric connection she and Max share. Max has led his crew to a time of peace. Or at least as peaceful as they can manage. He doesn't need an innocent muddling his head. Especially when a routine job morphs into something much messier, and with ties to their violent past. Danger is coming for them and Danika may just be caught in the middle.

I was intrigued by this book after reading the blurb and learning it contained three of my favorite sub-genres: college-age, bully, and MC. I enjoyed Red Thorns and think it's a good start to the trilogy, but I also have some mixed feelings about it. Dani, our heroine, is a Sandra Dee level goody. This didn't really bother me as she was obviously sheltered in her childhood, and held to high expectations. I did feel this information was unnecessarily reiterated when the majority of her actions and thoughts fairly screamed it for her. It's understandable and even expected that she'd be finding herself at this time in her life, but sometimes it felt like I was reading two separate people. I loved seeing the confident, intelligent, and sassy woman come out in her, but the changes in her personality could be abrupt, and I felt she was maybe too naive for being a sophomore with freedom from her parents and Hannah as a best friend. Max, our hero, is a strong alpha male type with some mystery to keep you reading to get more. For the most part, I liked him. He was intelligent and protective. I am a little confused about the MC and his role as president, though. The balance of power is skewed with orders seemingly coming from someone else. I was also confused and maybe a bit disappointed that Max didn't do more after the club was cheated out of their money. As a couple, Max and Dani are complete opposites, but I liked this about them. I like the idea of the good girl shaking the bad boy up, and complicating his life in all the best ways. There was one instance that I hated reading about Max's actions, but I hope that was the only time it happens and a way to make his fall seem that much more exciting. Overall, this was a good read. I would have liked a bit more meat when it came to the MC, but there are still two more books to get that. The storyline is a good one. I do like a good bully story, but I'm not sure I'd personally categorize this book as a bully romance. There is bullying, but not by the hero to the heroine. The hero can be a bit of a jerk, though. Sadly, the supporting cast weren't any of my favorites. I didn't feel the connection between them and the MCs. They were talked about as if they were super close, but that didn't translate in the actions for me. That said, I was and still am most interested in the MCs and learning more about them. I'm really looking forward to seeing where Max and Dani go from here. At times, my heart would race with adrenaline for what was happening or about to happen next. I will definitely read on for that feeling, and because I've become invested and have to know if they get their HEA. ♡

3.5⭐️

Red Thorns is a combined college and MC dark romance. Dani (Danika) is a sophomore in college and meets Max, the president of the Red Thorns MC. Dani is a good girl that totally isn’t Max’s type but he just can’t help but want her. Dani knows that Max is bad for her and will probably end up hurting her but she can’t stop thinking about him. But is she strong enough to survive in his world?

I kept going back and forth with the rating on this book. There were definitely aspects that I loved but then other aspects that annoyed me. Though I do think this is one of Rebel Hart’s stronger books.

First off, I really liked the concept of the book. The serious student, good girl who is finally becoming her own person and living her life thanks to the bad boy who has a soft spot for her. I liked The angst of the book, which kept me reading. And I really liked Max’s character, the strong and sexy alpha male.

While I overall liked Dani, I had some issues with her. She seemed to have two different personalities. One was this strong, smart, sassy female and the other was this super shy, super naive, little girl. It wouldn’t have bothered me if they blended a little more but I felt like I couldn’t get a read on who she was. This is her second year in college, with a party girl/ sexually open best friend, living 10 hours away from her parents and she still has no concept of how the real world works or even a single friend besides Hanna? And her best friend had no idea that she’s still a virgin? Some things about her just didn’t add up to me.

There were a few other issues that bothered me, like timing issues, the fact that Max is the Pres but the club is still basically controlled by someone else and Max does nothing to stand up for the club when they are stiffed, and that Hanna and Dani’s friendship didn’t seem to have much substance after their first day back together.

Overall I did like this more than some of her other books and will be reading the rest of the series. Note: The book ends on a cliffhanger.

DNF

And I'll explain why. I haven't written a review in a while as I've been in a major book fest, jumping from one book straight into another. Then this came along. The blurb looked interesting and whilst MC clubs aren't normally my thing, I've read a couple recently that were so well written that I decided to give this a try...I cant do it. 1st turnoff was the MFC jumping into her dads arms and calling him daddy, it felt so immature and I just couldnt relate- even casting my mind back to that age, it just doesnt fit. The next thing- this is her second year of college right? So why on earth is her mum acting like it's the 1st time shes ever left home? It was super cringy and didnt fit with a second year college student. Next thing, the MMC- who forces themselves into someone's life like that? Insisting on taking the bag, pushing his way into her room? Also, hated the line about people being intimidated by his height (or something) ir the cigarette smell on his leather?!? When has that ever been an actual intimidation??

Then, I hated the way the best friend kept trying to force the issue of her losing her virginity. Also, doesnt fit with the fact they are meant to be best friends- this never came up the 1st year?? Oh, are friends only meant to try to force you to do something like that the second year *SMH*.

I think I got to the point where she was setting up the tv with the longest descriptive portion *sigh*, surely this could've been cut out by simply saying "ten minutes later and I had everything up and running ".

Not putting myself through anymore

>Book Review – Red Thorns
>I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 1st in the Red Thorns Crew series and ends in a cliffhanger. Dani is the good girl in college. She is rooming with her BFF she met her freshman year. She notices a motorcycle gang hanging around her dorm. Max is the MC prez and his cousin, Benji is living in Dani’s dorm. The MC seems to be hardcore. They work for Max’s dad and all carry weapons. They have a clubhouse, so why do they hang around a college dorm so much? That action doesn’t seem to fit an MC.
>Max and Dani are total opposites and really attract. Max is surprised by how easy Dani accepts all things MC. Max had a typical MC upbringing, including multitudes of women, so a few scenes showing Dani’s jealousy would have been cool to see. I did like to see how hard it is for Dani to pay attention to classes while in this new relationship. That seems pretty realistic.
>This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving this book 4 stars. I would like to see how Max cleaned up the MC, while still working for his abusive father.

Having read Rebel's books from her very first I can honestly say this is her best book yet. The flow of the writing was smoother and the anticipation if what is to come left me waiting for more.

In this book we meet the "good girl" Danika and the "bad boy" Max. This is the very definition of opposites attract. In her sophomore year of college we see Dani start to spread her wings after lots of encouragement from her best friend/roommate Hannah and Max. I live the interaction between Dani and Hannah along with Dani and Max.

The reason for the 4 stars is that it seems Danika can only focus on school/Hannah or Max. As a reader we miss out on what her school life is like when she really gets tired up in Max. There are some pieces that get looked over after something is mentioned. Example: telling Max she school the next afternoon, but then the next day occurs with no talk about classes.

I didn't have some theories about where this series is going so I can't wait to read the next one!

Sons of Anarchy and grease dont do this justice

Dani is your average girl next door who is in her second year of college. She has self confidence issues, is a people pleaser and deals with anxiety. She stumbles into a hot motorcycle guy and sparks fly. She ends meeting his jerk cousin who makes Dani's life hell. She can't get the hot MC out of her head. Max can't stop thinking about her either. Things get interesting between the 2 of them fast. Max is an MC president and Dani is the smart good girl college student. This book was so good to read and kept me on my toes. I am a huge Sons of Anarchy fan and just keep picturing that in my head while reading this book. It was so worth it.

3.5/5 Rating
The author, Rebel Hart, is new to me. I’m not quite sure what to make of the story. I tried to get into. My feelings on the characters as well as the plot swung from curious to pretty bored. I’m sad to say more bored than curious. Danika was a little bit Miss goody two shoes for me. I understood the need to study and not disobey your parents. But it was a constant thing. Max’s characters was slightly better than Danika. Only slightly… I didn’t really care for the crazy relationship that he had with his cousin, Benji. Ugh… the cousin was a creep. I’m not sure if I want to read the next book. For right now, I’m leaving it alone and moving on to another book.

Wow what a story this got it out to be with its twists and turns bullying and oh you guessed it plenty of hotness. When I pick up a book by this author I know it's going to be a great read and Rebel proves it once again with this one. I love everything about it from the beginning to the end I couldn't put it down. Max and Dani will have you feeling all types of things in the whole story line is amazing as well. The ending made me want the next book that much more well actually the whole story does. I can't wait to see what happens next in the story Rebel truly does an amazing job with this one.

I have been guiltily reading bully romances for awhile now- guilily I say because I am way pass my college days. Red Thorn makes me remember those heady coed days - quite fondly 😉

I was simply captivated with this sexy book and caught up in the story and the heat that is Dani and Max. They are a classic case of opposites attract but when they come together boy do things heat up! I loved their sizzling chemistry and connection. This didn't feel like the typical bully romance. Both the characters and story was so much more!

I can't wait for book 2 because Red Thorns gave me chills and their multiplying 😉

Research

The story is okay... but authenticity to setting is lacking...the author might not have said that this college campus is supposed to be University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mi... but clearly it is... so research your location... I was irritated by chapter 2 when these people drove 10 hours from West Bloomfield to Ann Arbor... that is impossible... that is an 45 min drive... an hour tops... just research subject matter and settings a little better... I understand poetic license, but be mindful of people who have been to those places or live in those places may read your work... it's off puttine

Max is a bit of a complex character he’s in an MC but he’s not too over the top Alpha towards Dani which was a nice change.
Dani is sweet but with an enduring innocence I liked that about her.
The side characters are funny! I lol a few times.
There’s suspense and mystery and a cliffhanger but don’t worry the next 2 books will be out in March and April so very soon!! I’m definitely curious to where Dani and Max’s story goes and if they make it out together.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Oh , how disappointed I’m .
I was really looking forward to reading this one since the blurb was really appealing but the story was really slow and I don’t mean slow burn it was just slow to the boarder of boring .
It is a real shame because Hart could have taken so much advantage of the storyline.

The heroine , Dani is this naive , overprotected girl that is now living in a dorm with her best friend . With zero self esteem and no personality it is very hard as a reader to make any type of connection with her .
Regarding the hero , Max , he is even less interesting and the fact that there was zero sparks between the characters , I never really connected with the story.

I found this difficult to get into. But persevering paid off as i started to really enjoy it from around 30% ish mark...

It picked up its pace and then sucked me in there on out, it flew by and i finished it really quickly. I can honestlt say now I'm excited for the next one.

I liked the characters. There was enough tension and angst..... i like the rough gang side of it as well. some of those background characters sound interesting and i hope rebel brings them into the next one a little more.

Overall i enjoyed this read and will definitely be waiting for book 2.

There was nothing particularly wrong with this book. It had the usual scenarios.
Studious young girl raised by Hugh achieving patents falls for the bad biker guy.
All the usual social plots parties, dorms etc, etc
He, in to dubious dealings with unscrupulous father.
I just couldn’t find anything new about it.
Everything felt like it read it before in other books.
It was kind of bad boy, good girl romance by numbers. In fact so parts I found myself so disinterested, I just skimmed the storyline.
Two stars.
