my main goal in life is to read every novel written by v.e. schwab, so when i heard that her first middle-grade trilogy is getting published again, i obviously had to pick it up. i'm definitely not the target audience at 19, but i still enjoy these types of stories occasionally, and basically i started reading this with the intention of reading one or two chapters, and then i found myself halfway through the first book.
basically the three books follow aria, a new guardian angel who has to help three girls in order to gain her wings. she doesn't know much about where she comes from or what happens afterwards, she just knows what she has to do and of course has some pretty cool abilities. i wasn't sure about how this would play out, but schwab came through once again and delivered three amazing and memorable books that i wish i had as a kid. i think there is a lot in these, that could help children and make them feel seen.
★ new beginnings -4.5*
this story focuses on gabby torres. she is 12, and her brother got sick, so they had to move to a completely new place, and she has to start a new school. she wants to make new friends who wouldn't befriend her "out of pity", or look at her different because of this, so she keeps her life a secret.
this was an amazing start to the series. it showed a difficult situation and that just because your problems aren't necessarily "as serious", they are still valid, and you are allowed to feel these things. it's a very bittersweet story that i absolutely loved. and the brother-sister relationship was really cute.
★ second chances -4*
the main character of the second installment is caroline, who goes to an all girls prep school, where she is constantly bullied by the local 12 year old mean girls, whose leader is her next-door neighbor best friend turned enemy.
honestly it was wild to see these twelve year olds targeting someone so early and pretty much making nearly everyone at their school fear them. and the other kids just followed them like sheep. i mean, i'm sure this happens a lot, because children can be cruel, i just personally have never seen it so early, and it was sad to read about the petty things they did, yet caroline still wanted to belong to their group again.
i think it was a realistic portrayal of what they go through even if it's a bit irrational, kids be kids. and i was glad to see that lily wasn't just reduced to the mean queen bee, but she had depth and problems too that explained why she did these things, yet her behavior wasn't completely excused by the end. i liked this book too, but i wasn't a fan of caroline in general, rip.
★ last wishes -4*
this book follows mikayla, who is a dancer and won multiple trophies, and basically all her time is consumed by dancing and very strict rules, and the need to be perfect. her parents are also having financial trouble, so her main goal is to get into a prestigious dance academy.
last wishes perfectly explored the perfectionism that some children experience and the bad things it can lead to. there is a lot of pressure on the main character and she has a lot of doubts about what she should do. i was also happy to see what happened to the other two girls and the way aria's story concluded was well done too.
overall this trilogy is a prime example of good middle-grade, and i think it could help a lot of kids who feel alone or lost, or deal with similar problems, so i hope it'll reach a lot of people eventually. and obviously schwab's writing is splendid, as usual.

I think Marco's being sick, is a loud problem. So loud it makes every other problem seem quiet. And because they're quiet, you think they're less important.

I enjoyed these books way more than I expected to. I am most definitely not the target audience but the heart of all of these really touched me. There are some truly insightful lines in this book and I'm so glad I read them.

I was actually a little nervous about this series. Victoria Schwab is one of my favorite (if not my favorite) authors and I was so excited when her early stuff was rereleased but I found The Near Witch to be just okay and I was afraid this would be a generic middle grade/kids book that wouldn’t have her normal flare to it and that would just be okay. I wasn’t expecting much honestly.
But I actually really loved this series? Schwab’s writing is, as always, beautiful without being overly complicated. It flows very well. Her characters are incredible and the stories very meaningful. I was expecting stories about pre-teen drama that I wouldn’t be able to relate to but that was not the case. These stories hit hard and I think everybody regardless of age can relate to at least one of these stories. Not to mention Aria’s wisdom is relevant to everybody. Aria is wonderfully done in that yes she is very wise but she’s also still a twelve year old girl. She’s filled with wonder and excitement and it’s a reminder to not take the world for granted and fall numb to the beauty around you. She didn’t feel overly preachy or too mature for her age. And the other girls were also wonderful characters who I felt very drawn to and were routing for.
Absolutely incredible and I highly recommend regardless of how old you are.

I received this book from the publisher in return for an honest review.
It is no secret that V. E. Schwab is my favourite author, so I was buzzing to read this trilogy, even if I am not the target audience. I havr to say that I was a little bit nervous about that but once again, V. E. Schwab did not let me down.
The stories are so beautifully written. The stories focus on some serious topics that are relevant for teenagers as well as adults. I love Aria so much and she develops a lot through the books. I loved that even though she is only twelve, she has a lot of wisdom to share and she appreciates the simple things so much. It really reminds you to open your eyes more and enjoy what's around you.

Everyday Angel is a collection of three middle grade novels about an angel doing good deeds to earn her wings.
My favourite was definitely the first story. Aria appeared to help Gabby, whose brother was hospitalised. As someone who has grown up with similar experiences, this story definitely hit a sensitive spot for me. It got me all teary eyed and it had such a sweet way to show that the people who are left to watch their family member struggle, need to be noticed too.
The second story dealt with Caroline, who was being bullied by her former friend Lilly. Once again, Schwab managed to write a story that I feel will connect with a lot of people. And I really liked the resolution to the bullying problem.
The final story in the book was about Mikaela who was losing her passion for dance, something she had worked her whole life to do. Her family were also dealing with money problems. It was another great insight into real life issues that young people struggle with and Aria, the angel, definitely handled both this and the above challenges with grace, charm and a bit of wit.
I feel like these three stories all showed off different experiences that young readers may have faced themselves, or they may know of someone who have been in the same situation. By the end of the stories, Aria had truly done everything in her power to earn her wings. If you want a trilogy of beautiful and magical stories to read with a middle grader, I’d definitely recommend these.

To my mind, Victoria Schwab can do no wrong when it comes to her books, be they YA or non-YA. I started this Wednesday night and read maybe 5 pages and finished it Thursday. I'm glad I bought the 3-in-1, because I like having everything all wrapped at the end of a book once in a while.
It's for middle-schoolers as it's about 12-year-olds, but even at my advanced age I can still remember back to grade school (as we called it when I was in school).
I loved Aria, Gabby, Caroline, and Mikayla. I think it's a lovely feelgood book to read in the middle of a pandemic or whenever.

Such a lovely story! I was a crying mess in the first novel, but the other two were very heartwarming and relatable. Evene if being a middle grade book it reached corners of our hearts that sometimes we forget exists.

This is a self-help book for teens in a way and I would have loved to have read this in my teens!! The story is such fun and the lessons learned are very valuable (and weirdly enough not that common in teenage self-help books... Even though they’re pretty important!)

This is three books in one, so it’s on the thicker side of middle grade books. I was pleasantly surprised with this!
Victoria can write middle grade, light fantasy. I think I expected this to be intense world building and maybe a bit slower. I was very wrong.
You get right into it, it has magic and friendships and life lessons and struggles and you feel for each of the characters that Aria is helping as she works on getting her wings as a guardian angel.

I’m obviously not the target audience for this series, but I decided to read it anyway because I’m trying to read everything Victoria Schwab has written. I still really enjoyed this series though, and I think it would be especially great for the target audience of 12-year-old girls.
Aria is a guardian angel, and she has to earn her wings by helping three different girls through tough moments in their lives.
Each book is a standalone story following a different girl with a different problem. In the first installment, Aria helps Gabby deal with her brother’s sickness. In the second book, Aria helps Caroline deal with bullies at school. And in the last novel, Aria helps Mikayla learn to balance her happiness with her passion for dance.
Each book discusses friendship and family and the importance of helping others and being a kind person. These books are very wholesome and fun, and I know I would have absolutely loved them as a young girl.

This book is obviously for a very young reader and I would have liked for it to exist when I was a 12-year-old teenager but it's nice to read it even in my more advanced age... 😆
Schwab is a great story-teller. The stories were sweet and heart-warming, with loads of timeless wisdom and adorable characters! 😊

V.E. Schwab étant l'une de mes autrices préférées, j'ai pour but de lire tous ses romans édités.
Cette semaine, j'ai donc lu "Everyday Angel" qui regroupe une saga de trois romans : "New Beginnings", "Second Chances" et "Last Wishes". V.E. Schwab nous offre, encore une fois, des histoires remplies de bienveillance où l'amitié, la famille et l'entraide prédominent. Bien que ces livres soient écrits pour un public jeunesse, les thèmes abordés peuvent toucher n'importe qui, peu importe l'âge.
« To becoming a who. And that doesn't mean life is always going to be good or easy. It just means you're going to be a part of it. »
New Beginnings : Pour obtenir ses ailes et devenir un vrai ange gardien, Aria doit aider trois jeunes filles. La première, Gabby, voit sa vie chamboulée lorsque son frère tombe gravement malade. Aria doit l'aider à accepter sa nouvelle vie.
Le deuil et la maladie sont au cœur de cette histoire. Elle m'a particulièrement touchée ayant vécu une histoire similaire à celle de Gabby.
« It felt so nice to have someone on her side. It made her feel less like a speck of space dust and more like a planet. »
Second Chances : Dans le deuxième livre, Aria aide Caroline à affronter les filles qui la harcèlent à l'école, dont son ancienne meilleure amie Lily.
Même si je me suis moins senti concernée par cette histoire, j'ai eu de la peine pour Caroline et j'ai aimé que la "Miss populaire", Lily, ne soit pas juste une peste, qu'elle ait plus de profondeur. Bien qu'aucun de ses actes ne soient pardonnable on comprend comment elle en est arrivée là.

Last Wishes : Enfin, dans la troisième histoire, Aria vient en aide à Mikayla, une jeune championne de danse qui a de plus en plus de mal à supporter la pression.
Mikayla fait de son mieux pour rendre fiers ses parents quitte à mettre de côté sa vie de collégienne pour se consacrer totalement à la danse. J'ai aimé son parcours pour trouver ce qu'elle veut vraiment.
Les dernières pages de cette histoire nous permettent de découvrir ce que sont devenues les anciennes protégées d'Aria, Gabby et Caroline.
Perso Préféré : Aria, l'ange gardien que toutes les jeunes filles rêveraient d'avoir. Bienveillante, pleine de douceur et d'une grande sagesse, Aria a beau avoir des pouvoirs super cool, elle reste une jeune fille de 12 ans qui découvre le monde pour la première fois. J'ai aimé sa façon de s'extasier pour les choses les plus simples. Elle nous rappelle de prendre le temps de regarder autour de nous et d'être reconnaissant. C'est un vrai rayon de soleil !

Es un libro para adolescentes, y es sumamente tierno.
Me gustó mucho la amistad de forman Aria y Gabby, ambas son personajes adorables. Y me gustó el crecimiento que tuvo Gabby a traves del libro. Por más que todo en su vida se viera afectado por la enfermedad de su hermano, pudo lograr encontrar el equilibro y hacer cosas solo para ella misma, dejar de ser perseguida por esa nube que la atormentaba.

En esta parte Aria conoce a Caroline, una chica que sufre de bullying y a Lily, la que lo genera. Es una linda historia sobre dos mejores amigas que se separan, y como de a poco van encontrando su camino gracias a Aria. Trata sobre el hacerse responsable de los errores cometidos y el poder del cambio.
Se trata el tema de las presiones sociales y del bullying en si mismo.
Me gustó, pero me parece que Caroline no tiene mucha personalidad y que esté constantemente obsesionada con su amistad con Lily no es algo sano, pero toma buenas decisiones al final.

En ésta ultima parte vemos como Aria intenta ganarse sus alas ayudando a Mikayla, una chica muy cerrada y metódica. De a poco Mikayla comienza a explorar otras opciones en su vida y a ser una persona más feliz cuando prioriza su bienestar antes que otras presiones innecesarias.
Los temas que se tocan son la posicion economica, las decisiones que uno toma y luego quiere cambiar, el poder comunicar y normalizar ciertos temas sin miedo al qué dirán.
Me gustó mucho la parte de normalizar, de expresar ciertas cosas que no son malas, pero uno a veces tiene miedo de decirlas por pensar en el otro.
Aria, más allá de que sea la protagonista, me transmitió mucho amor y dulzura en todos los libros. Es un personaje muy puro y genuinamente quiere ayudar a todo el mundo.
Es un libro para adolescentes, y es sumamente tierno.

Love this three stories. And love that Aria the Guardian Angel help them to find the voice out their feelings.
Gabby
She wants to be seen but because her mom was always busy with caring for her brother who was sick in the hospital, she felt that her mother didn't care for her. She loves her brother very much and they always do things together but somehow without him she doesn't know who she is and she also wanted the affection of her mother too. And Aria help her to find her voice and also met some amazing friends along the way.
Caroline
Being bullied is not easy especially the queen bee of the school make everyone make you and an outcast and that bully happens to be your own best friend. Struggling to fit in and want to be popular it's every student dream but Aria help her to realised what is good being a popular girl when you are being mean to others however the thing is that the queen bee which used to be her best friend under her demeanour is also struggling from her own mother's expectations. Can't spoil much you should read it.
Mikayla
Struggling to be the top dancer. She lose her passion of it because it is weighing down but because her father lost his job she felt like it was her duty to continue on because her parents had been paying for her dance classes ever since she started dancing at the age of 5 and her dance teacher was fond of her and also drilling her to be a winner and does not allow failure. She is not happy and at times wanting to quit and Aria appeared in her life to help her to realised that they are fun things to do then just dancing.

This new binding of Everyday Angel is the original three books together in one. They are three unique stories with three different girls in three different places. What ties them all together is Aria, their guardian angel. Aria has to earn her wings and has to find the three twelve year old girls who need her help.
The years encompassing middle school are not easy for any girl. Even the ones who look and act like they have it all together still carry the turmoil of growing up and finding themselves inside. Some hide it better than others, some put up good fronts, some take it out on others, some shy away from everyone and everything, and some just want to go back to the simplicity of the years before.
Schwab does a beautiful job touching on all the different types of girls you’ll find in a room full of seventh graders and showing young readers that deep down, they’re probably not all that different from the girl sitting next to them. Not really. The need for acceptance and approval is so strong at this age and that drives so much of what girls that age do. The characters in Everyday Angel are no exception.
As an adult, especially one with a 13 year old daughter who just finished seventh grade, it was a pleasure watching these characters discover who they want to be. I can easily see why these stories were a book fair favorite and I would gladly hand it out to any middle school girl I could, starting with my own, to remind them that they’re not alone and that there’s a path through whatever they’re feeling.

I am not the target audience for this book.
And while I realize this, my commitment to reading all of V.E. Schwab's works had me pick it up anyway.
At first, I wasn't sure I liked it. It's an abrupt shift in tone from what I'm used to reading from Schwab, and with it being released so much earlier in her career, I initially had the feeling that maybe instead of writing the book she wanted to write, she wrote what she thought young girls wanted to read, or worse - what a higher-up told her to write. I also wondered if maybe I was just being too critical in my comparison as Everyday Angel is its own entity and deserves to be read for its own sake...
But little by little, it grew on me. And my 12-year-old self really dug Aria Blue.
And then my adult self really started to dig Aria Blue.
And then I read book 3 and felt SEEN for the first time in any of my reading of Schwab's works.
And I started to realize my initial aversion was a Me issue, not a book issue.
And I realized that many of us would feel seen in any of those stories.
And I realized somehow Aria Blue manages to "help" the reader too.
And that helped me understand and appreciate the REAL magic of this book.
And THAT... is actually 100% on brand for V.E. Schwab.

I'm a great fan of Victoria (V.E.) Schwab's Instagram. Since I'm a first-time middle-grade fiction author I try to emulate her posts. Before reading Everyday Angel I read V.E. Schwab's Tunnel of Bones that I took out from the library. That book was a fun sci-fi middle-grade book. Everyday Angel was so much fun to read too. It's three books in one. I read the first one, New Beginnings, in one sitting---which is unusual for me. I like to read, savor, read, savor... But Gabby's story was so well-done that I stayed until I finished it. Guardian angel Aria is a character I wanted to be around and that's why I looked forward to the next two stories with her. Schwab came up with a creative way to tie the three books together. Each story has an important theme for kids today. I enjoyed Caroline's story in Second Chances and Mikayla's story in Last Wishes, but my favorite remained Gabby's journey in New Beginnings.

Sooo, plot: we follow Aria, an 12-years-old angel who is sent to our world to earn her wings cuz angels have to do that always.
In the fisrt one she meets Gabby, a latina child who's struggling cuz her brother has cancer and her mom doesn't pay her any attention. As a result of that, Gabby refrains of doing anything cuz she feels her problems aren't as important. But no, they do are.
In the second we follow Caroline, a girl victim of bullying. The cherry on top is that her bully is her ex bff. Aria's gotta help the both of them.
The last one is about Mikayla, an extraordinary dancer who's really good, but as her parents have financial issues, she only sees the competitions' money and doesn't enjoy dancing anymore. So Aria helps her to embrace her passions again.

Book 1: Gabby feels the way many children often feel when big things are happening around them. Not seen, pushed to the side. I've felt my fair share of that sometimes as I grew up. While this book is not intended for me to read, sometimes its nice to go back to those younger feelings.
Book 2: It is always hard to stick up for yourself as you are growing into a well rounded person, even more so when it is your friends or former friends who are doing the picking.
And not everyone grows up for the better, a hard lesson to learn and one that we have to learn quite young. I wish I had been strong enough to do a few things differently when I was their age.
Book 3: The hidden pressures even as a kid that can be felt regarding your family and status. How hard it is for those who have a more unfortunate set in life.
Book 2: It is always hard to stick up for yourself as you are growing into a well rounded person, even more so when it is your friends or former friends who are doing the picking.

I have now officially read every published Victoria Scwab book and once again, she did not disappoint me. This was great! Young me would have loved this (and probably, severely needed this). I think each novel within the collection perfectly encapsulates the pressures that young girls feel (be it trying to shine on their own, facing their bullies or eliminating the pressure to be perfect). Schwab creates such touching characters with wonderful stories - her talent! Although I am a 27 year old woman and not a 12 year old girl, I still found myself smiling at the lessons learned by the three girls. This was such a nice and quick read, I am so happy to have picked it up.

Despite the fact that these stories aren't really Schwab's usual fare, you can tell these stories are written by her almost immediately. In her other stories, V has a tendency to not write "heroes" and infuses her plots with a lot of nuance. Similarly, Aria approaches each of her common, but still heavy, situations with nuance as well. Rather than "fix" what each protagonist believes is the problem, Aria instead guides them to approach the situations differently and teach coping skills that will not only help in the moment, but will serve them well throughout the rest of their lives. Even as an adult I found a lot of wisdom in the stories.

Me parece una completa lastima que este hermoso libro no tenga una traducción para los lectores hispanos que no pueden leer en inglés, porque es imperdible!
La historia tiene como protagonista a Aria, un ángel de la guarda en misión para conseguir sus alas. Es literalmente un ángel, tierna, nueva en el mundo y tan predispuesta a ayudar a todos, no solo a las chicas que la necesitan y que le daran sus alas.
Como siempre, la pluma de Schwab no falla, te atrapa, te llena el alma y te pasea por los pensamientos más profundos y reconditos que pueda llegar a tener una persona.
