Fox HATES winter! His friends travel south, hibernate, or just disappear, and he's left in the cold - ALONE. Then one special pal teaches him that the season does have a few wonderful things to enjoy.
I quite like this series. This particular one made my one-year-old grandson laugh. He particularly liked the snowballs, the word "boo," and the listening page, all things he is familiar with.
Another funny addition to the Fox series. In this story, Fox is bored and lonely now that all his friends have migrated or hibernated for the winter. He tries to fight winter, but winter comes up on top. What's a lonely fox to do? With short, simple sentences and lots of humor in the illustrations, this is a great pick for very beginning readers and a series I'm quick to recommend to new readers.
We love the fox boxes because they are not just your pointless run of the mill easy readers. There’s a lesson taught, the pictures are great, and fox is easy to love.
Fox is sad as his friends leave to spend the winter months down south or in hibernation. How can he face the long, cold, days by himself? We can tell that he is an extrovert who doesn't handle loneliness well. He tries making snowfriends but it isn't quite the same. Then he sees something, it might be his friend rabbit covered in snow. It is! He asks what Rabbit is doing and discovers that his friend likes to be alone and listen to the soft sounds of winter. Fox is impressed and asks if they can be alone together. Like a true friend, Rabbit says yes.
Inspite of some glaring scientific inaccuracies, this is a really cute story. Fox is a loveable lug who doesn't like to spend time alone and who decides too late that he should have gone south with everyone else. All readers can sympathise with the feeling of being left behind, of not being able to join in, and of hours spent trying to entertain oneself when what one really wants to be involved in something fun. This little gem would be a great way to communicate with small children about feelings of loneliness and feelings of being left out. It would also be a good way to address giving sibling and parents some time alone. Children don't always realize how overwhelming their needs can be, but fox is a safe third person to help them understand that everyone needs some peace and quiet. A genuinely sweet little novel.
I like this early reader series of Fox and his adventures. This one might be my favorite so far. Fox tries hard to work through his cold weather winter troubles. I like the pieces of repetitive text to support early readers. And I too, like Fox, dislike winter. I laughed on the page of Fox and his flamethrower.
Winter has come, and fox is bored and lonely. All of his friends either traveled south or are spending winter sleeping (hibernating). What is a lonely fox to do?
Fox versus Winter is a heartwarming tale of courage against difficult odds and finding strength through adversity, simple, ideal for new readers. The story begins as the other animals are hunkering down for winter, but not Fox! She decides winter will not get the best of her. Fox starts by building a snowfox, but winter melts it. She then makes an igloo, but winter finds its way in. Each time winter outsmarts her, Fox tries something new with the fearless creativity of a child - fishing for food, riding a sled, making a fire. Although winter proves a formidable foe, Fox's resilience and ability to adapt are inspiring.
Fox's friends are all going South or going to sleep for winter. Fox is all alone, and very bored. After trying to sleep, he gives up and decides there's nothing left but to fight winter.
Well that was unexpectedly delightful. I know some people who totally would join Fox in fighting winter right about now in the areas that have had their fill of snow and are more than ready for spring. I also love the positive solution, and the reminder that there are unexpected joys in some quiet time every once in a while. As an introvert who treasures quality time with others, I am all aboard for the together alone concept. Sometimes it is just enough to be near someone. A very cute and humorous addition to the Fox leveled readers. Hand this to someone fed up with winter or who needs a laugh.
I read this ebook with my student Ad. Ad found it manageable because the reader read it to her 'karaoke' style, and she could repeat (like a parrot) right after. I asked these questions during the read-aloud: why did the animals go South? (she replied "because it's warmer there during winter"); why was it not fun for Fox to play with his new friends? (she replied "because (the snowmen) could not move); what would happen when Fox tried to fight winter? (prediction, cause & effect); why did Fox say "it was not so bad after all?" (she replied "because he found a friend"). I should have asked this question after reading it: What would you do in winter especially when all your friends have left for their holidays?
This is my second Fox book and I didn't really care for it. I did like that it shows (in a roundabout way) that some animals migrate or hibernate during the winter. But the rest of the book was kind of meh to me. I guess it's also cute that . I wouldn't discourage anyone from reading this book but I'm also not going to run out and buy it for my school library.
First sentence: Fox does not like winter. In winter, Elephant and the Birds go south.
Premise/plot: Fox does not like being all alone in the winter. He misses his friends. Can he scheme a way to bring them back? Can he fight winter and win? Maybe. Maybe not. Perhaps he can find something to like about winter....if he looks hard enough.
My thoughts: I LOVED this one so much. It was such a fun read. The illustrations were hilarious (in my opinion). I loved the idea of him fighting winter.
Oh, Fox, I adore you and understand completely how you feel. The flamethrower took me aback but made me laugh. I loved how this explained hibernation and migration very simply and amusingly. Thank you for this series. Thank you for skateboarding mice and friends who will let you be alone together. Thank you for Fox.
I enjoyed this author illustrated book about Fox, who finds himself alone and lonely when all his friends leave the winter forest for warmer climates. His comical fight against the winter season made me laugh and his discovery of Rabbit, who usually likes to spend winter alone - but will make an exception for Fox, made me smile. I plan to read more books by Corey R. Tabor.
Cute, simple story about a fox who is sad when his friends fly south and hibernate during the winter. Fox tries to go south, sleep, build snow-friends, and fight winter with a fire shooter!
Then rabbit shows him that if you sit quietly, you can hear the snow falling and the animals moving underground. Rabbit likes to be alone and listen, and now Fox likes to be alone with Rabbit.
Cute easy reader story that will fit right in with the current library unit: snow. Love the pic on first page of Fox with his hand/paw in his fur pocket! Also love how Fox fights winter - wish we had that flame thrower to fight our big Texas snowstorm last month!
Excellent beginning reader with a good story line and excellent illustrations and one also very subtly learns that a few animals sleep in winter. Also some imagination is present as fox overcomes the long winter.
I love these Fox book by Corey R. Tabor. Poor Fox is all alone. His friends have either gone south or are hibernating. Winter is boring AND lonely. Maybe if he fights winter, it’ll go away and his friends will come back. So that’s the plan. How will it turn out?
Fox gets lonely in the winter because all of his friends except for Rabbit either go south or go to bed. Fox learns from Rabbit how to appreciate the winter time. A thoughtful picture book to read on a snowy winter day.
Another fun addition to the Fox books! I look forward to sharing this with my toddlers at Storytime. I enjoy sharing early chapter books with young families and this is a terrific series.
In the book, Fox wants winter not to happen because his friends are not around. He built friends out of snow. And then he tries to fight winter. - Mary
