If anyone is a beginner to astrology I would definitely recommend them this book! I’m a bit more advanced so I didn’t learn anything new however I bought this book as a quick reference to things like sign correspondences or planet themes. It has beautiful illustrations and colors throughout and is very accessible.
I am no stranger to astrology, the level of this book was just perfect for me. When I mention astrology, people who haven't studied it just thinks I am talking about the horoscopes you read in the Sunday paper, and how it is a bunch of nonsense. What they don't know is astrology consists of more than the month you were born, and each person's personality is made from many different aspects of the astrology - sun sign, rising sign, venus, mars, etc. If they read those things they'd realise how accurate astrology is, not necessarily for "telling the future", but as a way to understand yourself even more. This book does just that. It lets you do your own chart and you go in depth.. what is your style of love, your attitude towards. finances/money, what are some things to work on for improving yourself, etc. It is an interesting read. It isn't very hard to "write" your own horoscope and is a great book for any astrology enthusiasts. Although I'm somewhere in between the beginner and intermediate astrology level (whatever that means), I still learned a lot from this book. This is a book I plan to keep for a long time because I also love reading up on my loved ones, and I'll be able to read up on the personality of anyone new that comes into my life down the line. Astrology is truly one of the coolest thing ever.
I really enjoyed this book. I knew a lot of information before hand but that doesn’t mean I didn’t walk away, learning something. I love how each section was broken down and I learned that Venus also rules or has dealings over money, so that’s cool also. This book is definitely something I would recommend for someone who doesn’t know where to start.
I really appreciated the illustrations, they were really nice to look at. I do wish that the charts inside the book were explained a little bit better. Like where the author breaks down how an energy / aspect can manifest in your chart. I kind of figured it out to be that if you have a planet aspecting a planet in your natal chart, then it will manifest in a way, but what I don’t understand is the strength by or weakened by parts. Like if a transiting planet is aspecting a planet in my natal chart, does it get strength in whatever house and sign it’s in? Like for example, Mercury transitions and aspects my moon, does it get strengthened if Mercury is in Cancer?
Those are the only questions I have, but other than that, I have no complaints about this book. I truly enjoyed reading it and I love how I was able to get a different take on transitioning planets verses just forecasting.
I've been getting really into astrology lately (a fun way to pass the time in quarantine), so I was excited to be approved for this title. Struthers is very clearly an expert on horoscopes, but unfortunately, a lot of the information went straight over my head. The book is designed to give you information about each of the zodiac signs, and I got a lot of benefit from these passages. However, it was also written to help you do your own birth chart, and this is where the explanations seemed too complicated to me. People with some background (or who are smarter than me!) would probably have an easier time deciphering the different terms and coming up with a successful birth chart.
At the end of the day, I think it would be easier to book a reading with an astrologist or use one of the online guides to determine my birth chart so that I could be sure it was 100 percent accurate. I would recommend this book to someone who has a large understanding for zodiac-related stuff already or who needs to learn how to write a birth chart on their own.

Have you ever checked your horoscope in a newspaper or magazine? Seen some nonsensical or vague advice aimed at everyone who shares your sign? If your are interested in astrology, this book is for you! Logically organized and beautifully illustrated, Write Your Own Horoscope gives you a clear understanding of what your horoscope means and how to use it to guide your future.
Jane Struthers begins by showing how astrological signs are related to the planets. She lists the personality signs we associate with each sign. To those broad descriptions, she adds modes and elements using thorough explanations. Chapters on love and sex, work and career, money, and friends and family follow. For example, you’ll learn which three planets influence the way you deal with your work and career. The final chapters on fulfilling your potential and planning your future are followed by an excellent reference section listing online sites, books and astrology programs to use. This is an excellent guide for a beginner or more advanced astrologist. 5 stars.

Write Your Own Horoscope is the perfect book to take the beginner astrology buff to the next level. Jane Struthers breaks down the various planets, houses and aspects of your natal chart and applies them to specific categories like love and career. She takes the more complex layers of astrology and simplifies them so they're easier to digest and grasp. I found it easy to follow and although it was still difficult to put all those parts together in the end - I found it easier to understand than many other books I've seen. By the end of the book I felt I definitely learned a lot about how to break down a natal chart and give an in depth reading and feel like I have a stronger foundation to take my learning to an even more advanced level. This is great for people who already have some knowledge and interest in astrology and are looking to build their skills as a reader or give themselves an in depth natal chart reading.
I'm not going to lie, flicking through this book before actually reading, it felt incredibly intimidating and complicated. Lots of diagrams, lots of text - lots of astrology technical terms. I thought this book would be too much for a beginner like me.
However, these thoughts were quickly squashed as I began reading. It was so well written, and so easy to understand. The diagrams were super useful and the illustrations were a lovely touch too. Using this book, I feel so much more confident at looking at my birth chart (which I used to find baffling!) and predict things based on the chart. This book is all you will need if you want to discover more about astrology and horoscopes. I absolutely adored this. I was given an electronic copy to review, but I have already pre-ordered the hardcopy of the book for when it's released next month!!
For anyone interested in diving into the snapshot of the moment they were born and how to interpret their purpose, this breakdown is done very well. I will find my self revisiting it, because throughout my research of birth charts it's not something that will be understood at first attempt of reading any book. I especially find the five major aspects and orbs difficult to understand but the author clarifies it in a way that I haven't seen in other texts. I would recommend for beginners once they have a general understanding of birth chart, this book was intimidating at first but the illustrations help to visualize and pause for analysis of your own birth chart.
Best book I have found that actually teaches the patterns, symbolism, and correlations of astrology, with plenty of visuals and charts. Very useful and easy to use. I felt like it launched me into another level of understanding quite rapidly, particularly when it comes to Houses. I appreciate that it doesn't oversimplify or overcomplicate, but strikes an approachable balance. Good stuff. Highly recommend to anyone seeking to not just take for granted the many horoscopes out there, but instead learn to interpret the alignments of the planets and stars for one's self.
The artwork throughout the text is gorgeous. I was intrigued to start figuring out mapping my different cycles and charting where my emotions might land in the different houses and rotations throughout the seasons. I was also able to evaluate my own relationships more while discussing this with my boyfriend. This is an enlightening, creative read that I think many open-minded readers will enjoy. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.
I enjoyed skimming through this book, and it was interesting. As someone who only knows the basics of astrology, I found some of it a little confusing and hard to follow. I think this is a good book for intermediate astrologists, a little complicated for total beginners, but probably too basic for those who already have some knowledge.
Finally an astrology book that brings us deeper into natal chart interpretations! I struggled finding a book that went past the big six, but Struthers is clearly incredibly knowledgeable and shares some amazing niche aspects of the natal chart!
