A cute and fun read. The quirky personality of the author shines through in this adorable tome. As others have pointed out, there are some editing issues--so don't take this as a precise & empirical reference.
It was a cute read. Jammed full of interesting facts about the history of the Royal family. As an enthusiast, I knew much of this already, but it did not make it an unpleasant read. It’s a great book for your coffee table. Loses a star for the basic grammar, spelling and date errors made! It stated that Queen Victoria was married in 1837 before her proposal in 1839, and in a later chapter in 1840! These things should be checked before printing. Good book, though.
I do love the Royals (well...some of them) so I thought this would be a fun entertaining read. It was. The book itself is super cute. I loved the size, color, and illustrations. I already knew most of the facts and royal trivia but I still enjoyed reading it. It was a cheery and charming guide to the royal family. It was amusing to read all of the little details about the royal residences, jewels, wedding dresses, and family pets. The book is now a bit dated with both Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip having passed away and a new baby, Lilibet, joining Harry and Megan's family.
A delightful, easy to read guide to the royal family. Also, happens to be accurate, which pleases me. Read at a time of lots of work hours and this was a welcome escape even if I could only read five minutes. My favorite part is her accurate description of how titles work. Example: Catherine is not Princess Kate. If she used Princess as a title she would be Princess William of Wales—she is not a blood Princess. A title for her name would be Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. If you are still confused or write for People Magazine read this book.
A quick read - one sitting. This little book is filled with lots of fast facts about the British royal family, so that was not new information. I did like the details about all the family's tiaras and other jewels, plus the royal palaces. Written in 2020, so keep that in mind. Things have changed since then. Also, it's filled with great illustrations of the royals, the corgis, the jewels, the palaces and more. A fun read or a great gift for a friend who is obsessed with the British royal family.
The Royals are a subject unto themselves. Their lives, their comings & goings, the "rulers" are full of variety as there are stars in the sky. No matter how much status, formality, or decorum, Royals are human. Fashion loves them, people follow them. I have followed the Royals all my life. Fun facts & historical details & a lesson on the family tree in accordance with succession to keep one on top of trivia.
I bought this book on my birthday, which also happened to be the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. It was the perfect purchase for the day. This little book is a quick-hits encylopedia of all things British Royal Family. While I was familiar with much of it, I did learn a thing or two about royal residencies, tiaras, and weddings. Nothing super special here, but a nice gift book for the royal-lover in your life.
The drawings in this book are adorable but the writing felt like it was geared towards a YA audience. Lots of exclamation points too! I agree with other reviewers who pointed out historical errors; I found two myself. But, so far, this is the first book I've read where the author explains the line of succession and also royal family titles and how they work, in a manner that this American completely understood. Therefore, three stars.
this was a cute and quick read about some basic royal facts. nothing particularly new for me but it's nice to have it all in one place. i particularly enjoyed all the illustrations accompanying the text. what put me off a bit were some very obvious typos and wrong information, that could've easily been solved by another round of editing. but besides that, a nice read!
I do not LOVE the Royals but I am fascinated by the history. This was a quick read filled with things such as titles, family succession, royal residences, descriptions of wedding dresses and tiaras and important pieces of jewelry. Light, cheeky descriptions and cartoony illustrations make this a good read and a starting point for looking up other info on the royal family.
Cute book, cute illustrations, charming comments and entries about members of British Royalty, their families, pets, homes, historic events. I loved the cover and I'll probably keep it by my bed for reference. The hewer was my favorite, or maybe the dogs? Great gift.
If you are a royal watcher, you seriously should consider buying this! It was so fun and so interesting! I really enjoyed it. Beautiful illustrations along with interesting facts and history on the royal family made it a perfect addition to my royal watching hobby. Loved this!
I don't know why I care about the Royal family. Maybe it's the palaces, or the gorgeous dresses, the glittering tiaras and jewelry....probably the glittering tiaras and jewelry. This was a fun quick read about them, and it includes the glittering tiaras and jewelry!
This was a cute, quick read! I didn’t learn much that I didn’t already know, but did learn a few new tidbits (especially about the jewelry) which was fun. I LOVE the cover, and loved the trim/format and great illustrations!!
Well written, fun and interesting, especially if you’re a newbie to learning about the British royal family. If you do know a lot about their history it’s still an entertaining read but with nothing especially revelatory.
This was a fun, quick, and interesting read into the basics of the British monarchy. I especially enjoyed some of the details behind some of the famous pieces of jewelry and a quick overview of the royal residences.
If you know nothing about the royals then this book will get you up to speed. No gossip, no digging for the dirt just a straight up telling of the different people and how it all fits together.
