Explore 99 of the world’s most beloved, delicious, and misunderstood foods in this charming culinary compendium from artist extraordinaire Stacy Michelson.
Eat This Book is part celebration, part education, packed with bite-size nuggets of knowledge about unique farmers’ market finds, kitchen pantry staples, and fascinating global ingredients. You’ll gain a new appreciation for seemingly familiar foods, and learn the backstory of some that have always seemed a bit more mysterious. Whether you’re a novice cook or completely food obsessed, there’s plenty here to feed your curiosity.
This book probably isn't everyone's cup of tea (or coffee, or matcha, or mezcal) but I really enjoyed this. Each page or so is devoted to a certain food - 99 to be exact - illustrated in Michelson's unique, colorful style. I learned quite a bit - that cold brew has more caffeine and is better on your stomach; that gelato has less fat than ice cream, which means more flavor (oh wow, that IS true!), that canned pumpkin ISN'T REALLY PUMPKIN (at least what we think of as pumpkin). I'm not going to tell you what is in that can - you need to go read the book to find out.
This was very interesting! I learned a lot that I didn't know I didn't know. The highly illustrated design of it is also great. It might be good for older adults with visual or short term memory challenges. For the most part, the text is very large and each series of pages covers its own subject. You can pick it up or set it back down whenever and learn interesting factoids. There is a strong visual component to every page.
This was so fun to read!! It took me a little bit of time to get through because there is a lot of information in it. I initially picked it up because the pictures are so fun and it looked entertaining. But I actually learned a lot about this history of certain foods, where they come from, how they became famous, and other stuff. It inspired me to try some new foods and recipes!!
This book is so good! You will want to eat it! Stacy did a fabulous job of researching, drawing and sharing information about common and not so common foods. I learned a fun fact about ever single food covered. It was such a fun read. I recommend this book to foodies, eaties and everyone else.
Fun book to pick up and browse! You are guaranteed to learn something new about a favorite food and maybe decide to try a new food. Interesting graphics, with one to two pages for each of 99 foods. Foodies Enjoy!
I loved this book! It was so interesting and informative about a variety of different foods from all over the world, the artwork and hand lettering are delightful, and it made me want to try all sorts of new and interesting foods.
This book was so fun! Learned a lot about different foods and enjoyed the cheekiness sprinkled in as well as cute graphics. There were a few pages that were very dense text or had black text on a dark color making it a bit difficult to read, but otherwise would recommend to anyone who loves food!
I learned so much about food and it definitely has made me think differently even about the food I’ve eaten so much of before reading it. There are things I now want to try. Easy read but very informative.
