The Story of Daniel THE DEVIL’S MINION, or the boy from Interview with the Vampire - a chapter from the book Queen of the Damned by Anne Rice. ( Volume three of The Vampire Chronicles )
This chapter reveals quite a lot about the relationship between Armand and Daniel.
What Daniel had always felt for Armand was “ravening and hopeless desire.” To feel this for a vampire which is a creature who is essentially death walking among and feeding upon the living … well this is the type of situation that will get messy. Especially since Armand kidnapped, imprisoned and stalked Daniel. But aren’t the Anne Rice vampire relationships we like the best usually the messy ones?
Before this book I don’t recall “the boy” having a name.
We find out “the boy” is named Daniel and he wants Lestat to turn him into a Vampire. So Daniel goes looking for Lestat but finds Armand instead.
Armand has not had an easy life. We don’t find out the horrific circumstances until later books but we can glean enough from his behavior up until now to know the scars of his trauma run deep which is why he acts the way he does. Armand needs CENTURIES of therapy to undo his emotional damage, but Anne Rice vampires don’t seek therapy, they seek chaos. Which is why reading about them is such fun. 😀
The Armand/Daniel love story is beautifully messy and complicated and sweet.
This quote made me burst out laughing while reading …
Daniel had roared. "You're five hundred years old and you can't use a telephone? Read the directions. What are you, an immortal idiot?
