Linda Ford grew up devouring books and making up stories in her head—often late at night when she couldn't sleep. But she hadn't planned to write. Instead, she dreamed of running an orphanage. In a way, that dream came true. She married, had four homemade children, adopted ten and lived (at times, endured) the dream.
Writing first took her to non-fiction human-interest articles for newspapers and eventually a non-fiction book about tuberculosis set in the 1930s and 1940s (Touched By The White Plague). But romance had always been her first love and she turned to writing love stories. She is multi-published in the CBA market.
She lives on a small ranch in Alberta, Canada, where she can see the mountains every day. She and her husband continue to enjoy their children and grandchildren.
A dnf at 19 %. Theresa our heroine is supposed to come across as a strong woman with a lot of pride. Instead she comes across as an idiot. She can barely stand from a head injury. She's dizzy, wobbling and 9 months pregnant yet she keeps going on to our hero that she's going to town and then traveling to some fort. How? She has no money. nowhere to go and can't even hold her own baby (after she delivers the baby herself of course)without fear of dropping her. But does she listen to our common sense hero who says rest up a few days and I'll drive you to town. Nope, she wants to go NOW an hour or two after giving birth. Idiot.
By the way how she stole the hero's horse is never quite explained. The horse is temperamental, hard to handle and dangerous and shes's 9 months pregnant . Personally I found childbirth exhausting. Afterward I just wanted to take a nap not a trip to town. No pioneer spirit I guess. So a dnf at 19 % and in the future this author's books are safe from me.
In this second book of the Cowboys of Coulee Crossing, Cash searches for his missing horse and feels responsible for the pregnant woman who get injured in the process. He helps deliver the baby and convinces Theresa to stay at his family ranch and recover. During the time spent with the family, Cash and Theresa can't ignore their developing feelings for each other. Harsh realities of domestic abuse are compared with those of a loving Christian home. The verses discussed and Sunday services in the home kept faith a constant thread throughout the story. Important elements in the story were trust and dependence on God.
When Cash finally finds his horse, he cannot believe what he has seen. Thunder is in a corral and has knocked a lady down – a very pregnant lady! He rushes to her side and rescues her from thundering hooves. After taking her home with him to care for her until she recovers, a lot of things are revealed. Number one: She is not a horse thief! Number two: They both have a lot of regrets to work through. Loving this series with the Hoopers.
I could have loved this story so much more if only Theresa would stop trying to make Cash into another Sherm. I didn’t understand why she refused to see Cash was a good and kind man. Especially near the end when her friend, Lydia, helped her realize a revelation…don’t want to give any spoilers!
Other than that, Cash’s interaction with her and little Rosie was so sweet and tender. The Hooper Ranch and family seem like such an idyllic place to live!
Great book , loved returning to Coulee Crossing. I love how the author lets you into the hearts of each of the characters. Cash was a wonderful hero, Theresa did get on my nerves at times, I didn’t understand how she could think Cash could be anything like Sherm. But Cash helped her learn to trust, love how he went after her. Also really loved seeing Connie and Jake’s loving marriage, Megan and the sweet funny brothers.
This was a lesson both Cash and Theresa needed to learn. Forty
Cash and Theresa both needed to come to this conclusion. Each had things in their past that needed to be laid at the Master's feet before life could bring them what they longed to see.
This is a story of learning to let go of old hurts and wounds and also learning to love and trust again through the characters in the book and by embracing God’s promises and love for us, even when it seems He has abandoned us. I enjoyed reading this book and think yo will too. You can’t get too many handsome cowboys and ladies in distress.
I've read many books by Ms Ford that were terrific, but this wasn't one. The hero, Cash, was a jerk. And selfish. The heroine, Theresa, had already suffered enough, before she met him. The fact that her situation was probably historical true, made the story worse. Two stars only because I like the author.
I really enjoyed this book so very much 😊. Theresa was a mail order bride and her Groom lied to her about everything . When he died on the trail home she felt shocked then relieved she was free of him . CASH'S PROMISE, COWBOYS OF COULEE CROSSING, ROMANCING THE WEST BOOK 2 BY. LINDA FORD. I recommend teens and up.
This was a good book. The second in the series. I enjoyed reading this book just as much as the other book Linda Ford has written. I am looking forward to reading more in the series
I enjoyed reading this book. This series has written well. Looking forward to reading the other books in this series.
This book was just as good as the first one in this series. In truth it was almost identical. I hope the next book is different, although the prelude suggests otherwise.
I have sincerely enjoyed reading these two books of the Coulee series. The characters are believable and t their stories are presented in a clean Christian format. I look forward to reading this entire series.
A sweet love story. I enjoy second chances and stories about those who renew their Faith in God. A clean story that is easy reading and fast paced. It does mention spouse abuse.
I enjoyed Cash's Promise very much and I am looking forward to the next story in the saga. I admire these people. Thank you for introducing them to me.
Characters finding strength and hope in the Lord admits tears and tragedy from a horrible relationship. Learning to trust God again and others is the lesson learned here.
This was a nice clean read. Cash felt responsible for Theresa's care after an accident with his horse. Little did he know that he was going to fall in love with with mother and child
This is really a 3.5. Another easy-read, enjoyable book, this one is about Theresa and infant Rosie, the traumas Theresa experienced as a mail-order bride, and of Cash, brother of Jake in the previous book in this series.
She fell in love with a man thst didn't exist, and she lost all trust in men and herself. Cash finds a horse thief, but what a thief. This book is about loving and trusting God. Forgiving yourself when you make a mistake. Good clean romance.
What a great read. Full of past pain and trauma, current hardships and needs, a loving family with godly principles and room for others to be a part of it. Some really good lessons and points included if you have a mind to accept them. Loved it.
A wonderful, well written story that fills your heart and soul. Scriptures, sweet family, a lost and abused woman with a new baby. And then, God’s love
I highly recommend reading these series written by Linda Ford! She weaves a story that draws a picture of the old western days showing the trials and tribulations along with love and faith. Very good reading for several ages.
A cruel, deceiving husband dies, leaving her with child and alone. The man who saves her, takes her home to a dream. Will it shatter? Can they both conquer the fear through love? Highly recommended for all readers. Remarkable story.
Some of the hardest things to do is to have trust and faith. The characters in this book have to learn how to trust each other but God mainly. Also have faith in God's plan.
Although you know the ending it is still good reading. Experiencing the emotions of life with the characters makes you take time to think. Heart warming.
I loved this book and enjoyed reading Cash and Theresa’s story very much. I am looking forward to reading the other brother’s stories. I highly recommend this series.
