Dove cannot get over the feeling she is being watched. And guys that show interest in dating her mysteriously disappear. She thinks it is her but she doesn’t know she has a “guardian angel” who watches over her every move because he feels that she belongs to him. Zane loves his Dove. He has for a very long time. And he will do anything and everything to keep her safe, even kidnap her.
This is a great stalker/captive romance. I really enjoyed reading it although there were some editing issues here and there (not sure why that irks me but it does). Very well written and although I wouldn’t classify it as erotica it is definitely dark with violence and light BDSM noted if that is your trigger. It ends on a cliffhanger and I can’t wait to see how Dove and Zane’s HEA ends.

'CRUEL OBSESSION' is the first full length novel in J.L. Beck's 'The Obsession' duet. Spoken in 'Dual Perspectives.'
I went into this thinking that I was going to get my dark little fix but for me this didn't hit that spot, but it still made for a good solid read.
Zane was a borderline psycho, and over the top obsessed when it came to Dove, he went above and beyond what a normal guy would go to, too stalk the girl he wanted. or in his own words loved. A trained killer, contracted to take out people from an early age. Ruthless, calculating, but likeable when you saw a softer side emerge.
Dove had had a hard life, she's constantly being watched, she can feel it, the hairs on the back of her neck stand to attention, she feels eyes on her everywhere, even in her own apartment. And when it comes to meeting guys she doesn't have the most luck at all, they disappear. Even a guy that was following her home one night, one minute he was there, she turned around, gone..
But when Zane is handed a hit list and her name is on it, things start getting interesting, and from that point onwards my eyes were glued to my ipad.

This was pretty good. I was intrigued that this was a romance between a stalker and the girl he's obsessed with. This was super short, though, and nothing really special. I think a reveal was pretty obvious from very early on and I wish it wasn't that obvious, but this was still an entertaining dark romance. Some parts were a little boring, which really shouldn't be the case for a book this short. I'm not sure if I'll pick up the second in the duet, though.

This book had my attention from the start. I was so intrigued by it that I read it a few short hours!
Dove felt broken. Always has. She couldn't fathom why no one was there for her and sometimes when they are it's only for a short amount of time. She had no idea that there was someone working behind the scenes. Always making sure she was safe and taken care of. Always watching, always plotting.
Zane, oh Zane. It's a love/hate relationship with him. It took a bit, but he has softened my heart and I truly feel the love and devotion he has for his Dove. All that he has done has been for her, to keep her safe, to always put her first. He loves her, but loves her from a far as that is how it has to be for now. He knows in his heart that one day she will be HIS and only HIS. He stalks her in her apartment and outside of it. She is essentially never alone --- even if she feels like that constantly.

Holy Hell! What a freaking book! Cruel Obsession is intense, gripping, sexy and absolutely amazing! It grabbed hold of me from the very start and never once let me go. It was angsty, suspenseful and more than checked off all the marks for me. This dangerously dark and delicious tale will have your heart racing while keeping you on the edge of your seat.
Dove spent most of her childhood in the system. It wasn't a good experience, but at least she had William. He held her hand and tried to protect her every step of the way. But when tragedy struck, she was removed from the home and eventually adopted out by a kind woman. One who gave her the life that she deserved. A life of simplicity and normalcy. At least it was until the night she was kidnapped by a scary, yet handsome stranger.
Really that's all you need to know before going into this intriguing psychological thriller. Although it was easily predictable that didn't change a thing for me. I absolutely loved it. Cruel Obsession was skillfully crafted with a perfectly executed plot and characters you couldn't help but love. I hope that many of you will join me on this crazy journey and delve into the twisted minds of J.L. Beck and C. Hallman. So please, buy this book, read this book and then I beg you to spread the word to others. 5 stars for Zane, Dove and Cruel Obsession!

I really liked this mafia/stalker book. Its labeled as dark, but for me it was no so dark as I expected it to be, so I will label it as a stalker extra possessive hero mafia book.
Zane is truly a psychopathic man, his obsession with Dove is on another level. I mean no normal men would do what he did for Dove, he goes above and beyond in his quest to keep her controlled, he considers this love, but I m not quite sure yet to be honest.
He works for a mafia boss as a hitman , and when his new assignment is presented to him, things take a deadly turn.
Dove has always been different, she had a hard life, growing up in foster care until she was adopted. Now her life seems good, having a job that she enjoys, a few friends and an adoptive mom that she loves, but she always felt like being watched.
When Zane makes his appearance in Dove's life things became very interesting and I was glued to this book. I will read the second one in this duet because this one ends with a cliffhanger.

Cruel obsession indeed!!!
Well, this was a good story, even though it wasn't my normal reading prefference...
The story was built in a good and steady rythm, but sometimes, i was feeling that the heroes were a little bit wooden in their behaviors... And that their thoughts weren't matching their actions, but i'm very curious of how the things will play out on the next instalment, cause the ending in here was leaving you a little bit on edge...
"I don't want her to be mine. I need her to be mine."
Well, Zane was very obsessed with Dove... Literally!!!! And the crazy thing was that he didn't see it as an obsession, but love!!! Wow!!! But i can inform you that obsessive is the right word with a side of love...
So, he thinks that he has a sort of connection with Dove and that he is her protector... And he is in a way....
Also, Zane is a trained killer for the mob. Ugh!
So when the things are taking a wrong turn, he is abducting Dove in order to protect her...
"I was put on this Earth to protect her, to ensure her safety as long as I lived."
Dove is a low profile girl who just living her life calmly, since her early years weren't the best and they are still hunting her memories...
But strange things always are happening to her and she is having this feeling all the time that she is beeing watched...
And then, one day her tidy world is turning upside down and a beautiful but ruthless stranger is taking her away from her life and locked her down in a place that she doesn't want to be...
"Whoever this guy is, he's never going to let me go."
Well, who is this stranger that he knows so much about her and her life???
How she will get away from him???
Why is he so obsessed with her???
And why the hell, she is feeling some sort of calmness near him???
"The power he has over me is terrifying. It entices me."
"She doesn't know how dangerous this is for her. How easy it would be for me to let go and ruin everything."
Well, as i told you above the idea of the book was really good....
I just wanted a little bit more realistic approaching from the one hero to the other...
Yep, Zane's obsession with Dove was scary in many aspects and honestly, i don't know if i liked him, even though he had his sweet moments too... But all this shit was so unhealthy and scary as hell!!!
Dove from the other hand, was determined to fight him off, but in a way, she wasn't fighting as much as she should, i think!!!!
Maybe that's why it felt a little bit rush to me.
Overall, honestly, i can not wait how the things will end up after all!!!! I'm way too much curious for Zane and his Dove!!!!

Dove is being watched and protected by Zane. Until one day, Zane must act. He kidnaps her, taking her away from her world and introducing her to his.
I’m not new to Beck & Hallman! This story is part of a duet. The next instalment in the Cruel Obsession Duet is called Deadly Obsession and it comes out March 20, 2020! Watch out! I sure as hell will because this story ends in a cliffhanger that is very very naughty. Why do authors do this to me? I ALWAYS BECOME A CLIFFY VICTIM. This was another quick Beck & Hallman read for me. It had less steam than I’m used to from these ladies and it felt like a nice change, to be fair. The story focused on how Zane approached Dove and how Dove is taken out of her environment. Their chemistry is good, but it’s not at an all time convincing point for me. Perhaps book 2 will enlighten me further into why I should ship these two.
I recommend this read to anyone who enjoy the lovely reads by Beck & Hallman, stalker romance, innocent leading ladies and obsessed leading males willing to risk it all for their lady.

CRUEL OBSESSION by JL Beck & C. Hallman is the First book in The Obsession Duet Series. This starts the story of Zane and Dove.
Dove for most of her young life was in the system where she didn't build connections but to one friend who protected her..William. William was a little older than her but he said he would look out for her. Now Dove is around 21 years of age and hasn't seen William in a long time but she still feels someone watches her. Zane is a dangerous man who boarder on some really dark things but the one thing that he is obsessed with is Dove. When he learns of the danger she is in he goes into taken her instead of watching from a far.
This hero is a dark obsessive male hero who does evil except to the women he wants. Loved it and can't wait for the next installment of their story!!

Quite boring. I find these dark mafia books laughable. The guy repeats too much of the same thing. His inner beast, his steel rod lmao at that one. I though it would be a good one with the whole obsession but nope.

If you love stalker romance then you will hit the motherlode with this one!
Zane is the perfect stalker, but when you find out all the reasons why... well, I’ll warn you now... you will fall for him. I loved Zane and I’m not even sorry bout it.
Dove, she was okay for me. She did all the things a normal victim would in her situation, but she eventually annoyed me with her back and forth.
I am ready to delve more into her past and get a better look at her because I feel my feelings could change when that happens.
The story was steady moving, steamy, and left just enough bread crumbs to make you want to turn the page. Coming up to the end, I knew things were going to hit the fan, but I wasn’t prepared for what actually happened. I need to know what happens! I can’t wait for the conclusion!

I liked the idea of this story but the execution was bad. The h needed to be consistent in her fear of the H, instead she couldn't stop staring at his muscles. Plus, her attempt to seduce him was baffling. This guy his a complete stranger to her.

This novel grabbed my attention from the first chapter , I was enthralled by this story !
It's a thrilling and obsessive read .
Dove, is a young woman who has suffered a traumatic childhood ; which has irrevocably scarred her, both physically and psychologically.She lives a simple and monotonous life .

Zane , is complex and complicated ;flawed and obsessive with underlying traits of a sociopath .He is a hitman for the mob and takes his assignments seriously .He executes his targets with little to no remorse . The only important person in his life is Dove ; he has dedicated his life to protecting her and providing for her; unbeknownst to her .She is the only light in his life ,the fulcrum that keeps him balanced .

DNFed and skimmed a lot. I can predict the whole story, the plot has nothing new. Zane is a double standard asshole and Dove is plain Jane, BORING.
He had his eyes on Dove for many years and he fucked a lot of women who looked like Dove. Then eventually he stopped fucking... Yet he fucked. He made sure she never had boyfriend or never find a date😑

I really did love this book until the unnecessary cliffhanger. Even worse is Book 2 is just stupid. This book by itself, I’d definitely read again.
Dove Miller (21, virgin, student) has a pretty good life, despite how crappy her childhood was. She bounced around foster care for a while, watched as the boy she cherished was killed at the hands of an evil foster parent, then later she was adopted by a nice foster mom. Now she attends college, works at an animal shelter, and can’t figure out why every guy who asks her out just disappears.
Zane Brennan (23, hitman) makes good money killing people. He enjoys the flexible hours and 401k. Plus, he has all that extra time to do his favorite thing…. stalk his one true love. He runs into a bit of a problem when he gets the info on his latest target. Ooops. It’s none other than his lady love, Dove. So what’s a guy to do??? Whisk her away to his underground bunker, of course!
Our lovely couple spend a lot of time disagreeing about their current living arrangements, they start to find a little bit of a balance, they have a few touchy-feely moments, lots of weightlifting, and then an emergency which requires them to leave their love hut. This ends on a cliffy that I didn’t want.
SEX: These two authors’ generally write meh sex scenes. This time, the sex was actually pretty sweet. Zane absolutely loves Dove, and he doesn’t keep that a secret. The last thing he wants to do is hurt her, so he’s very tender with her during their first time, which is at 79%. I’m not sure why the fuck their books are always slow burns, but let me tell you, I don’t appreciate it. There are no condoms used – yippee! Plus, there’s some decent butt sex. Yay! The only thing that irked the fuck out of me was that Zane said he’d fucked other women before Dove. Considering how obsessed he is with her, it didn’t make sense, and it also lessened the potency of his obsession.
DOVE: She’s not bad, despite always trying to kill Zane. The majority of their issues could have been resolved if Zane had just been honest with her from the beginning.
ZANE: I love his sweet little psycho heart. The way he took care of her made me swoon. I need that sort of devotion in my life!!!!
CLIFFY: This is what really ruined things. If they had just wrapped it up with this book, then I’d definitely recommend this to friends. The entire plot in B2 was just stupid as fuck. I think they were trying to tie this into some of their other mafia books, which I didn’t need. I’m putting that info in spoilers so you’ll know what you’re getting into if you decide to proceed. Eventually they do get an HEA.
AUDIO: For whatever fucking reason, Book 1 and Book 2 are narrated by different people!!! Tell me how that makes any sense!?! With B1, Wen Ross and Kai Kennicott narrate and honestly they’re both pretty good. On B2, Marcio Catalano and Shiloh James narrate and they aren’t horrible, but they’re not as good as B1 narrators. I still recommend reading if you have the time, but if audio is your best option, then you’ll still be ok. Your ears won’t bleed or anything.

This book is a no go for me.
This is not even literature.
It read like a school essay, written by a teenager showing passion for dark love stories yet having no life experience and developed a broader horizon to execute it.
The book cover, the blurb and the first few pages were engaging and interesting, the basic concept was nothing new but intriguing.
When the story early on started to primarily focus on the interactions between the two main characters, the book took a nose dive.
The time alone between the characters showed the massive flaws, while the reader isn’t distracted by the common plot.
An editor would have been helpful to condense the text and delete the repetitions. And maybe point out the boring parts, as well as the small inconsistencies in the plot.
Which would have probably resulted in those two books being one with a decent length instead of two short stories.
It was simply immature, I am sorry to say.
The thought processes of the characters turned in circles and were immature, even missing common sense at times.
The main male character was definitely a big talker and never really delivered on any of it. He throws threats and big words out left and right, making him out to be a big shot, I kill them, I kill them all, I kill them slow and painful. Every single time he is bested and remains behind looking like an idiot and amateur.
The characters were poor and one dimensional. The woman begs and cries and begs and cries and begs on repeat, her whole vocabulary seems very limited. Her whole thought process is very limited. And the role of the victim without dignity, the damsel in distress that needs constantly rescuing coupled with her impulsive and not thought through actions are tiresome and repulsive.
The world building is non existent or chaotic.
The writing below average with a limited vocabulary.
Sorry, but passion for writing isn’t enough for me.
There is no psychological concept although the whole interaction between the two characters while being isolated is based on exactly that.
There doesn’t appear to be much knowledge of how to create a character on paper with all its flaws and strengths, letting them act accordingly.
The plot is based on the lack of communication between the characters, ergo bloody boring.
One word: William
And the whole first part would have been unnecessary.
This is the second book I read by this author and it appears there is a preference for weak and ancient roles of women I don’t conform or like.

Good lawd with this duet. I knew with the whole mafia romance title it would be a cheese fest, and it was that and more.
It’s so formulaic I am actually a little embarrassed for this author. Dove was bounced around foster homes, met a little boy in one of the really bad ones and they shared like a moment or something. Fast forward years, and Dove seems to be the luckiest girl ever. Gets a great job with no experience, a fabulous apartment for next to nothing, when her adoptive mother needed to go into a care home, an unexpected and unknown insurance policy pays out for it. Zane is a mafia hit man, I know, and is obsessed with Dove. Follows her everywhere, cameras in her apartment, always intervening to keep her safe. Until one day his mob boss passes him a file of his next target. Guys, you ARE NEVER going to believe this...but it’s Dove! IKR
A couple ridiculous twists and turns that make little to no sense, some bad proofreading, repetitive phrases, some semi hot sex scenes...bam!
The best parts for me were the typos. Like how “he planted a CHASED kiss on her lips”, or that one time they had to be “VIGILANTE” and stay on their toes for the next shoe drop. Or that time she thought she had the “FLEW”, but turns out it was just a cold. Ok, I made up the last one, but you get the idea. It got two stars for a couple of hot scenes, but I can get those anywhere and they don’t take much skill to write. Hard pass this one!

𝒁𝒂𝒏𝒆 kept lurking in the shadows and protecting 𝑫𝒐𝒗𝒆 for so many years now. Until he was forced to reveal himself to her, because his own boss haired him to kill her.
And this is the part where things gets existing !!!
𝒁𝒂𝒏𝒆 kidnaps her and keeps her locked in a safe house with him .
I loved how she was always drawn to him even though she knows it's kinda wrong and weird. And the way 𝒁𝒂𝒏𝒆 acts with her is just soooooo cute !!!

𝒁𝒂𝒏𝒆 is obsessed with 𝑫𝒐𝒗𝒆. Literally. He goes beyond boundaries with his Obsession. He Interferes in her life in so many ways. He follows her, has cameras in her house, he even has a key to her house which he uses A LOT. And yes, SHE HAS NO IDEA ABOUT THIS!!!
He's a hitman, he kills people when he's ordered to do so. He kills and tortures without mercy. His only weakness is 𝑫𝒐𝒗𝒆.

𝑫𝒐𝒗𝒆 workes in an animal shelter. She was raised in a foster home, she had an accident when she was young that left her with a trauma and a big scar in her stomach.
She is paranoid and always has this sensation of being watched. Which later on we discover that it was 𝒁𝒂𝒏𝒆 watching her from the beginning. .
𝒁𝒂𝒏𝒆 kept lurking in the shadows and protecting 𝑫𝒐𝒗𝒆 for so many years now. Until he was forced to reveal himself to her, because his own boss haired him to kill her.
And this is the part where things gets existing !!!
𝒁𝒂𝒏𝒆 kidnaps her and keeps her locked in a safe house with him .
I loved how she was always drawn to him even though she knows it's kinda wrong and weird. And the way 𝒁𝒂𝒏𝒆 acts with her is just soooooo cute !!!
