North England 1395 – Falsely accused of witchcraft, ever-optimistic Viviane is sure the truth will set her free. But when her execution is imminent, only a wish on an unusual moonstone pendant bequeathed by her father offers any solace. Thinking it harmless, and sympathetic to her plight, the knight escorting her to the execution grants her request – and is shocked when Viviane disappears.
Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, 1999 – Suddenly Viviane finds herself in a wondrous realm she believes is the legendary Avalon. Befriended by some rather eccentric locals, she quickly finds the warmhearted island community happily compatible with her sunny disposition. But the hand of justice soon reaches across time and space to bring her back. The hand, however, belongs to the same handsome knight responsible for her freedom. And soon this powerful man, devoted to upholding the law, finds himself caught between duty and a far more powerful emotion…
Deborah makes her home in Canada with her husband. When she isn't writing, she can be found knitting, sewing or hunting for vintage patterns. Deborah Cooke has always been fascinated with dragons, although she has never understood why they have to be the bad guys. She has an honors degree in history, with a focus on medieval studies. She is an avid reader of medieval vernacular literature, fairy tales and fantasy novels, and has written over thirty romance novels under the names Claire Cross and Claire Delacroix.
I enjoyed this story. It was a lighthearted and fun read. If you enjoy time travel romances, especially when people travel 600 years into the future from 1390 to 1999, it can be quite comical! Yes, the heroine was over the top, but she was cheery and sweet and the knight (who was taking her to her execution when she vanished) who follows her into the future can't help but fall in love with her and wants to return to the past so he can help prove her innocence; and she doesn't want to go back, puts up a fight and all hell breaks loose. Misunderstandings and funny situations abound in this entertaining story which I thought was a refreshing escape.
Once a noble knight, the hero is shamed after a defeat which resulted in damaging his knee and now works for the archbishop brings prisoners to their execution. He hates what he does but must support his wanton sister and her 7 children. One prisoner changes everything. The heroine is by far the most cheerful, pleasant and bubbly prisoner he's ever met. He instantly falls for her charms but fears for her sanity. She's been taught all her life by her mother that no harm will ever come to her if she thinks positively. She's 100% sure that when she speaks with the archbishop, the whole witch misunderstanding will be cleared up. But it soon becomes quite clear that she's been lied to and already sentenced to death. She tearful pleads with the handsome knight to give her father’s necklace where she makes a wish to be as far from this place as possible. The knight, charmed by the heroine and saddened to know that she'll soon be dead grants her wish and in the next second the gemstone as sent the heroine forward in time to present British Columbia. As naïve as she is, the heroine instantly is positive that she's in the mythical Avalon as surrounded by immortals. She finds employment as a book shop and life is generally pleasant. The hero is tasked with bringing her back to face justice and in their absence, the hero has become convince that she lied to him and put him under some spell. He uses the gemstone to follow her. But the instant he sees her again he falls under her charms and knows that he'll never be able to bring her back.
I can understand why some would dislike the heroine. She's horribly naïve to the point of stupidity, she's very clingy to the hero and tends to cry at the drop of the hat. But she's also innocent, kindhearted and cheerful. Her positive attitude towards life was refreshing and you could feel her enthusiasm for the new world around her. The hero was the complete opposite in every way. He's grim, serious and dower for most of the book but he's very intelligent and though he knows the heroine is deluded about magic and witches and such, he's patient with her and isn't insulting. When he finds himself in this new world he takes the time to investigate everything around him. He's fascinated with how things work you get the feeling that he could make a name for himself in the present. That being said, he was just as naïve as the heroine when is came to the archbishop. When he reads about the historical events that will lead to his sister’s death, he drags the heroine back to clear her name but of course the bishop is an asshole and won't listen. I could have told you that! I did like this book. At time I disliked the hero because he had a tenancy to use sex to get what he wanted from the heroine and became upset when she refused him but overall, I think he was a good guy and he had to have the patience of a saint to deal with the heroine and her blinding chirper personality.
The Moonstone by Claire Delacroix is an interesting time travel romance. It is very unique that more than one character actually travels to the future. I don’t think I have ever read how the hero follows the heroine. Of course, he is not following her because of love but of justice.
I found this to be a fun, flirty type of time travel read even though the hero is a court appointed warden deliverer for the executioner. Somehow Claire Delacroix aka Deborah Cooke managed to keep this story from veering too far into the dark. I can’t say that I have ever wondered what happens to permanently injured knights but found this to be believable. No matter the time period, one’s life after a shattered dream is difficult. Thankfully, Niall’s future brightens up by the end of the story with more than a little thanks to Viviane.
A wonderful, lighthearted read with its hint of magic along with a hero who needs saving much more than the heroine. Then The Moonstone has a satisfying happily ever after that I thought was the icing on the cake, so to speak.
4.5 Stars The author provided a copy for an honest review.
WOW! While this isn't my favorite Claire Delacroix book I don't think it is as bad as the other reviews would make it seem. In this time travel story, Viviane, accused of being a witch travels forward in time from 1390 to 1999 using a moonstone pendant. She dropped the pendant when she disappeared and Niall is sent on a quest to find her. He uses the Moonstone to travel to wherever she is. She thinks they have traveled to Avalon, a magical kingdom but Niall recognizes that there is no such thing as magic. Although they are attracted to each other, Niall knows they must return while Viviane wants them to stay. They love, they fight, and they do return only to be in even more trouble than when they left. The villian of this story was not very believable and kind of ruined it for me but overall, the book wasn't too bad.
The Moonstone is another of Ms. Delacroix’s time travel novels. In this novel the travelers go from the late 14th century to the late 20th century. Viviane is condemned to be executed in Northern England. Sir Niall of Mallory grants Viviane her one request to wish upon her moonstone necklace and suddenly disappears. She lands in Salt Springs Island, BC thinking it is the mythical Avalon. Niall, and honor-bound knight, feels compelled to find Viviane. While still holding Viviane’s necklace he wishes to be with her and appears by her side. The events of the present day alter the events of the past and Niall must decide what the most honorable action to take is. I found this a most enjoyable story and look forward to similar stories.
This was a well-written, enjoyable book. Viviane lives in North England in 1395 and is falsely accused of witchcraft. Niall, the knight appointed to escort her to her execution allows her to make a wish on her necklace, bequeathed to her from her father. She disappears from 1395 and finds herself in 1999! Niall follows her through time and finds himself torn between his duty and his feelings. This is a standalone story, though it is part of a Time Travel Romance series. I loved this book and can't wait to read another in this series! Copy gifted by the Publisher in exchange for an honest review.
The Moonstone, a time travel by Claire Delacroix/Cross was a chore to read. I did like the hero and the heroine and supporting characters, but the writing (after a promising start) just did not hold my interest. I still had to finish, because I always hold out hope for the end. The ending was ok, the epilogue mostly about two of the supporting characters instead of the H/h. Rating about 2 1/2 stars-Not a keeper!
This is a humorous and light-hearted story with a twist toward the end. Viviane is the person I want to be; always happy, seeing the good in others, friendly and outgoing. And a believer in true love! Niall seems to be her opposite and a liar. How many chances can a girl give, even for true love? I was given an ARC for an honest review.
