I was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. I joined the Air Force, and my career took me from coast to coast before depositing me in the St. Louis, Missouri area for several years. After a tour in Korea and a short return to the St. Louis area, I retired and moved to the greater Denver, Colorado metropolitan area.
I write speculative fiction, mostly science fiction and fantasy. My favorite writers over the years have been Robert E. Howard, Philip K. Dick, Roger Zelazny, and Michael Crichton.

I really enjoyed this fourth book of the Shadow War series. Faith Benson, recently promoted to the rank of Captain, is now commander of the Kedraalian fleet. Her mission is to go to the shifty Gulmar and seek an alliance against the aggressive Azoren which the Kedraalians narrowly defeated. Along the way she must find a way to convince the older officers who resent her promotion and position to align with her, keep the fleet safe from a new enemy, and somehow convince the corporate-governed Gulmar that it’s in their best interest to fight the Azoren, whose fleet nearly destroyed her homeworld.

I also enjoyed the spy craft used by agent Lt. Brianna Stiles as she seeks to uncover the reasoning behind the two secret societies waging a shadow war to bend the Kedraalian government to their own hidden agendas.

The leader of the enemy fleet was an interesting and sympathetic new character - a man trying to make the best of the situation he’s found himself in. Certainly not your typical antagonist out to destroy the heroes of the book.

This is a fast paced series about an officer that had been sidelined in her career suddenly thrust into awful situations, where she must make the right decisions to keep herself and her crew alive, and defeat those who seek the destruction of her stellar nation…and the hidden manipulators pulling levers behind the scenes.

I’ll end this review as I have others - I’m really looking forward to the next book to see what happens next!

Commander Benson has command of the Valor, and the fleet. She also has diplomatic duties to perform and when a fleet of potential allies are discovered destroyed, she sets about liaison with those in power. The goal, to form allies against a greater threat, if she can.
The Gulmar think very differently, Benson needs quick thinking, strength of character and help from someone else if she is going to succeed in forging an alliance with anyone.
Elsewhere, other Kedraalian's are working on ensuring future peace. But wherever you are, whoever you are, the risk to personal life and safety is high, whenever you get involved in war and peace games.

P R Adams writes a highly engaging story. I've followed Benson's career and relationships and find it thoroughly involving to the extent that I lose track of what I should really be doing! I anticipate that the next installation will be awesome and suggest that you read all the preceeding ones as soon as you can.

I received a free copy of this novel from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review.

The allied spies seemed to be involved in a different story, although there was a slight connection, maybe next episode. The enemy spies, on the other hand, seemed to do extraordinarily well for their side. Mostly the story was about expected and unexpected battles, with no final resolution.
