A Reunion at Mulberry Lane by Rosie Clarke is Book 6 of this fantastic series! I just loved this new festive installment in this fun and fabulous series I have come to love and enjoy looking forward to. Love revisiting the characters I have grown to love and enjoy reading about. Though the books could be enjoyed as a stand alone, reading the series truly gives the reader the overall feel of the characters and really builds up nicely from one book to the other. There is a reason this series is such a best-selling success!
Though I read this book in the middle of a heat wave in Los Angeles, my mind certainly was in the festive wintery mood especially reading about the ice skating scenes, food and the markets. I really truly was transported to Mulberry Lane with Peggy and everyone else.
This was such a feel good read that I truly enjoyed and I recommend this series to everyone. If you like small towns, family and a community that care and support each other, a beautifully researched historical fiction, everyday lives of people in that era, and just a nice escape read that will warm your heart, this is it.
Thank you to Boldwood Books and Rachel's Random Resources for having me in this fantastic book tour and having me spend time again in Mulberry Lane.
A Reunion at Mulberry Lane by Rosie Clarke is the 6th tale in The Mulberry Lane Series. I believe it is best if this series is read in order. Each book builds upon the previous one. There is a great cast of characters in this series. Peggy is the matriarch who brought them all together. She has been through so much and deserves the happiness she has with Able. Changes may be in store for Peggy as Fay discovers she is a natural at ice skating. I enjoyed catching up with Peggy, Able, Maureen, Sheila, Pip, Rose, and Tom. Each family experiences the good and the bad that life has to offer. I thought A Reunion at Mulberry Lane was well-written and it moves along at a steady pace. I like the authors descriptions because I feel that I am experiencing things with the characters. I could imagine walking around the market picking out bits and pieces for Christmas or pulling a pint at the pub. There is an abundance of food in this tale. They are eating well now that the war is over and more items are available to them. These ladies are wonderful cooks and bakers. I can see why the pub and the two cafes are crowded. Mulberry Lane is such a cozy place where people look out for each other. The people are there to help pick up the kiddies from school, take food to someone in need, or help out in the pub. There are changes being made in the East End, but it has yet to affect those who live and work on Mulberry Lane. I enjoyed reading A Reunion at Mulberry Lane as I do all of Rosie Clarke’s books. It was lovely spending Christmas on Mulberry Lane with this group. A Reunion at Mulberry Lane is a saga with family, friendship, drama, romance, hardship, heartbreak, grief, and fun. This is what I call a comfort read. I would love PBS to make this into a television series. A Reunion at Mulberry Lane is a charming historical novel with countless cakes, a spoiled skater, a melancholy mother, unpredicted prospect, matrimonial misfortunes, and a cheery Christmas.
What a lovely delightful book to read and i have loved catching up with Peggy,Maureen,Sheila,Pip,Able,Rose and Tom.I have loved the stories of Mulberry Lane from book 1 to this new one and to have Peggy,Able and the twins back in the lane is fabulous. The stories in this book are so good as the characters pull you in as if you are actually there walking around the market or in the pub.I can and will highly recommend this book Peggy has come home.5*
A Reunion at Mulberry Lane is a charming family drama set during the Christmas season, and I liked it a lot.
Before I start talking about how I enjoyed the story, I will mention the reason for my 4 star rating. This is partially my fault, but I did not read the previous books in the series. Hence, it took a lot of time for me to form the connections between the characters. There are a LOT of characters spanning across different generations, along with multiple plots, and I got into the groove only after around 30% into the book. In fact, I drew a family tree while I was reading so I wouldn’t lose track.
However, once I got the hang of the story-line, it was extremely entertaining. Coronation Street was my go-to soap opera back in the 2000s, and this story made me nostalgic of my soaps. The story is very dramatic, where you have the archetype lovable couple Peggy and Able. I adored these two as the staple couple.
Similarly, the author does a beautiful job highlighting the trials and tribulations of the other couples. I enjoyed Sheila and Pip’s relationship revolving around her pregnancy scare. Also. I liked the story-line between Tom, Rose and the conniving Jim (who made an entertaining villain). However, I think my favorite story-line was Janet and Ryan and how they try to survive their relationship after his secret comes out. I liked this story-line because the author beautifully showed how their scandals affected their daughter Maggie. Moreover, I liked the plot around Shirley and her innocent young love for Richard.
The author has a beautiful style of writing family drama and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Had I read the earlier novels, I would have loved it even more.
I have read and loved all of Rosie Clarke's books to date. I eagerly await each new book that she releases. Rosie's latest book is called 'A Reunion At Mulberry Lane' and it was released on 27th August 2020. It is another amazing addition to the Mulberry Lane series and I thoroughly enjoyed every single minute of it but more about that in a bit.
I love the cast of characters that we find in the Mulberry Lane series. They represent a snapshot of the characters you would find on any street. There are some characters you will like and some you won't like. Well you get the picture. I love the way in which Rosie features strong female characters, who face adversity but at the same time they face it with great courage and their friendships help get them through.
I soon got into this story. In fact by the time I got to the end of the first couple of pages, I felt as though I had reunited with old friends in the shape of the ladies of Mulberry Lane. This was one of those books that proved to be unputdownable. The Kindle wasn't exactly glued to my hand but it might as well have been because it travelled everywhere with me. I just couldn't bear to miss a single second of the story. The pages turned increasingly quickly as I worked my way through the story as my desperation to find out what happened steadily grew and grew. I wasn't able to read this book in a single day but I did manage to read it in just under 2 days, which is still pretty quick for me.
'A Reunion At Mulberry Lane' is well written but then I have come to expect nothing less from Rosie Clarke. She grabs your attention from the start and draws you into the story. Rosie has one of those writing styles that reads more like a chat between friends rather than reading an actual book. I hope that makes sense. I love the way in which Rosie writes emotional stories that will make you well up one minute and then the next will make you smile. I felt as though I had been on a bit of an emotional rollercoaster ride by the time I got to the end of the story.
I thoroughly enjoyed 'A Reunion At Mulberry Lane' and I would have no hesitation in recommending this book other readers. I will definitely be reading more of Rosie's work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.
What an absolutely lovely book A Reunion at Mulberry Lane was to read. This is the 6th book in this series but the first one I have read. It does work very well as a stand-alone.
I met several characters who are family and friends of Peggy and Able. These two have left Mulberry Lane, also known as The Lanes, to run a cafe. They work hard but do miss their family and friends back home. It is set just after the end of WWII and the effects of the war are still being felt there are those who are suffering from we now know as PTSD and have a very hard time adapting. But on the whole, it is a time when people are gradually getting back to how things used to be, there are still some food shortages but the country is getting there.
The family and friends of Peggy are a wonderful group and there is an obvious bond between these characters that have been built up over the previous books in the series. The sense of belonging and having people to turn to for support and also the reactions when news is shared gives a wonderful feeling for the reader.
The storyline is a gentle one as such because it is one about the everyday lives of people who work hard and support each other. There is a wonderful feeling of belonging and being loved between the characters and this is what makes this book so special. There are some fabulous characters that I have met and I soon found myself getting to know them and remembering them.
Considering I have come to this series quite late on, I was surprised and also delighted at how quickly I found myself invested in this book. There are mentions of things that have happened in the past and the author gives just enough to make me aware but without giving too much away.
While this book works very well as a standalone I do wish I had begun this from the very beginning as I think the reading journey with the resident of The Lanes would be wonderful. I really enjoyed this book and I think readers of historical fiction and family sagas will absolutely adore this if you haven't read any of the books I would say read from the beginning as I think this would be a wonderful series to settle down with. I Would definitely recommend A Reunion at Mulberry Lane.
In the last instalment of the series, A Reunion at Mulberry Lane, Rosie Clark continues the story of the characters we have seen throughout the series.
The novel starts placing us right back into the story the residents of Mulberry Lane.
I have reviewed some books from the series and enjoyed them all.
The characters and atmosphere are well created and although Rosie Clark does have a lot of back story in her novels , it is all relevant to the plot and engaging informative shocking or heartbreaking depending on what's going on within the novel.
I thought the twins were very well portrayed in this novel as well as their love of ice skating.
One thing about Mullberry Lane is that it is welcoming realistic and there are also a lot of caring people and housewives with mouthwatering traditional food who fight to feed their families and are also conscious of the terrible plight of those who have less than them.
As I have not received the whole series but have reviewed a few of the books,
I think that each of the books is a good stand-alone but in order to really understand the ins and outs of every character it is a good idea to get hold of the entire series.
I am sad that the series has finished what a book to finish it on. I will remember the Mulberry Lane series for years to come. I am looking forward to going back through the series listening to the books that I have reviewed again and also listening to the books that I haven't listened to from the series.
Rosie Clark has a terrific talent for creating a believable historical saga with characters that will make you think feel and root for then. Obviously there will be some characters that you like more than others but that's very true to life as well and I can't praise Rosie enough for the Mulberry Lane series.
Thanks to Rosie Clark, Rachaels random resources Boldwood books and my ARC in exchange for and honest and voluntary review.
Although I have not read the previous books in this series, I have read other books that Rosie Clarke has written, and since I enjoyed her stories and this was a Christmas book, I couldn’t pass it. And I now really want to read the previous novels so I can see the entire growth of the story and characters, because I’m definitely curious.
I love stories that follow a group of characters, and not just one of two characters in a main view. And reading this book, it was like watching a movie, about Peggy and her family, about a community. And it made me excited to see more, so I will have to go back in time with the series and read the other books because although I didn’t felt like I missed much, my curiosity is asking me to learn more.
I also love stories that are set during Christmas. I truly think that this novel made me interesting in reading the other books because of how the holidays gave me the perfect moment to meet the characters. It gave me the opportunity to see the relationships, what the characters wanted to accomplish.
The plot allowed me to see the daily life, and all that comes with it. The excitement, the goals, the obstacles… It allowed the reader to feel a part of the community during this time, in a soft way.
Overall, I enjoyed it. As I have said previously, I will be reading the other books because this book made me want to know more about this place, this group of people and their lives during this time period. Plus, I have already liked Rosie Clarkes’ writing, so I was already sold.
[I want to thank Rachel, at Rachel’s Random Resources, and Rosie Clarke for the eCopy of this book and for allowing me to join in the fun and being a part of the blog tour with my honest review of the book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.]
It's always exciting when we get to revisit Mulberry Lane. A Reunion at Mulberry Lane is the sixth book in this fabulous series, and I've been fortunate enough to read and review them all!
A Reunion at Mulberry Lane is set in 1949. The war is over, and the women of Mulberry Lane are working to rebuild their lives with their families.
Peggy is settled in Devon with her adoring husband Able and her nine year old twins. When Fay insists she wants to figure skate, Peggy realises that in order for her daughter to follow her dreams she may have to relocate back to London. Whilst her son Pip and his wife Sheila would welcome them back, she is worried about her daughter Janet who is dealing with her own issues. A visit over Christmas to Mulberry Lane is just what Peggy needs to work out where her family should settle.
It was so good to revisit the ladies of Mulberry Lane and see where life has taken them after the war. Peggy is of course the matriarch of Mulberry Lane, where she has been sorely missed these past few years. But it was also great to find out where Maureen, Janet and Rose are in their lives. As expected, it is not plain sailing for any of them as life throws each of them curveballs. In the spirit of the wartime East End though, these women all come together to support each other as they have many times before.
I loved this novel, and I love this series. Whilst you could read A Reunion at Mulberry Lane as a standalone, personally I would recommend that you read the whole series, starting with The Girls of Mulberry Lane. Doing that will give you the opportunity to really get to know these women as they each develop into the thoughtful and supportive women that they are in A Reunion at Mulberry Lane.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.
Reunion at Mulberry Lane by Rosie Clarke was an absolutely charming slice-of-life novel featuring Peggy and her husband, Able. This novel takes place in the 50's, after the war but while there are still many wounds to heal. Peggy and Able have moved their twins to the countryside where they run a very successful cafe. Peggy has two children from her first marriage, to Laurie who was lost at war. Pip, now an airplane designer, lives in London with his wife and son; and Janet, who lives a few hours away with her husband and daughter, also from a prior marriage. Multiple other people trip out of Peggy's life, mostly in London, but not all. Much of the story takes place while the family is visiting London for the holidays. They close the cafe for three weeks that time of year, to rest. Lots of things happen, just like real life.
Real life can be challenging, as Clarke portrays in this novel. The characters are endearing and suffer some, some in large ways, as they navigate their lives. War cost them all and some are still paying the cost. Marriages suffer. Some succeed, some don't. Clark paints a very compelling portrait of real marriages and the daily strains of living. Reunion is a simple story but one that keeps the interest of the reader as daily lives progress. These are good people, with legitimate feelings and life is not always easy. She shows us this as she tramps through a year or so of the lives of simple people, middle-aged people, trying to survive. It was a terrific read. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I recommend it.
I was invited to read Reunion at Mulberry Lane by Netgalley. All opinions and interpretations contained herein are solely my own. #netgalley #reunionatmulberrylane
A Reunion at Mulberry Lane is the sixth book in The Mulberry Lane Series by Rosie Clarke. It can be read as a standalone but I think it would be even more special if you have read the other books in the series first. I haven't read those books and wish that I had because it seems like the reunion is a wonderful coming together of all the couples/families that were written about previously. That said, despite knowing the present of all the families written about in this book I fully intend to go to the start and read each book in order. Maybe I will even read this one again then. Rosie Clarke has just become a favourite author of mine and this series is a must-read for me.
This book tells you all about various friends and family members all connected to Peggy, a main character in the book. It's about their lives, their children, their marriages and how life is slowly coming back to normal after the war. There is romance, drama, sad times and fun, frivolous times too. As the story culminates at Christmas that helps to make this a wonderful feel-good story which will leave you with a smile on your face.
I will admit that to start with I had a little trouble remembering who was who and how they fit into each other's lives, which probably wouldn't have happened if I had read the other books first, but once everybody connected in my head I was there, I was among the family and friends and was wholly immersed in their stories. I think this book and the previous ones could be turned into a TV series which would run for years. I would be one of it's biggest fans! Somebody get a hold of Netflix!!!
I adored this book and I am more than happy to recommend it.
A Reunion at Mulberry lane by Rosie Clarke is a book whose blurb got my attention.
Rosie Clarke writes an engaging novel where so many lives are brought out in the book.
I have read lots of books by Rosie Clarke so I was very excited to try this particular book because the author takes you on a journey and you can’t help falling deeper in love with historical sagas.
Welcome to Mulberry Lane. Themes of friendship, family and moral support among others were navigated here.
There are lots of characters I had a hard time putting them into place.
I love Peggy and her friendship with Maureen. I love how both took their motherhood seriously while working for a living.
The book cover is beautiful, I must admit.
All those food mentioned in this book made me hungry. I was craving for an apple pie with iced bun. I would love to try that.
Mulberry Lane seems like a cozy place full of communal love. Everybody is so thoughtful.
Some quotes I love from this novel are; “…I think there must have been something in the air this Christmas…”
“A little bit of Christmas magic“
I love the Christmas season in a year. I used to think extra miracles happens at Christmas.
I am rating it 4 stars. Rosie Clarke did a good job taking me on an adventure to Mulberry Lane.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are mine.
An excellent continuation of this heartwarming series, bringing things full circle.
Peggy and Able live in the country now with the twins, running a successful business but it doesn't stop Peggy fretting about her two eldest even though they are now adults with children of their own. With the decision made to head back to the Lanes for Christmas, Peggy is looking forward to meeting up with all her friends again - letters just aren't the same! Able is a quiet, contented husband and father, but not much escapes him - would moving back to London make life easier or not?
It's wonderful to be back with this cast of characters again; Rosie Clarke's excellent writing makes each one come alive and she has the period details spot on. With a little bit of upset, unhappiness and a huge dollop of love this is a marvellous read and one I have really enjoyed. Being reminded of all the residents in and around the lanes is most entertaining and it's lovely to catch up with them all again. A delight to read and a series I recommend to all lovers of sagas set during, and just after, the second world war. For me, this is well worth 4.5*.
I received an advance copy of this book from Netgalley for which I am very appreciative.
This was the first book I had read by Rosie Clarke but certainly will not be the last, as i enjoyed the book very much. This was a holiday installment in her Mulberry Lane series, set in England in the post-WWII period. The book centers around Peggy, her American husband Able and their young children visiting their former neighborhood in Mulberry Lane, London, where Peggy’s eldest son lives. They reunite with not only their own family but also old friends there, Maureen, Rose and their families. Ultimately through a series of events, the couple decides to return to London from the country for family reasons.
What struck me about this book was that it is what I would term a “comfort read” with a similar tone to some of Debbie Macomber’s and Maeve Binchy’s books, full of love and friendship and happiness despite life obstacles. I enjoyed it very much.
Rosie Clarke has a wonderful way with words and I loved visiting the ladies of Mulberry Lane again. I haven't read all of the books in this series but they are all written as stand alone reads as well. It was great to visit the lovely selection of characters dotted between Mulberry Lane and Devon. I love reading a book that just sweeps you along and after the first few chapters introduce you to everyone, I was catapulted into a Christmas at Mulberry Lane. Christmas is one of my favourite times of year as I love the family time and this book really focused on family and it's importance throughout. Another wonderful read from Rosie Clarke set in the years following World War II as Britain started to recover. I love the attitudes of Peggy, Sheila and Rose in this story and how they don't shy away from a bit of hard work and have nothing but admiration as they paved the way for later generations.
This is the sixth in the Mulberry Lane Series and if you have read them, you will be familiar with the main characters. If you haven't, there is a lot of detail supplied in the early chapters giving background information on everyone as they are introduced. I haven't read any of the earlier books so I was grateful for this and it helped a great deal. As the story got underway, I enjoyed finding out about each of the characters, particularly Peggy and Abel's family.
This is set in December and billed as a festive read but it does not dominate the mood. There is plenty afoot as the different family members find that their lives are going to take a surprising turn. This family saga takes you through the ups and downs of family life. There are births and deaths to consider but it is underpinned by a real community feel and lots of period detail.
In short: Family and friends are reunited. Thanks to Boldwood Books for a copy of the book.
I have never before felt the need to write e review having only read 15% of a book!
I have really enjoyed the Mulberry Lane saga and was delighted to find there was a 6th book in what I thought was a 5 book series.
I really wish I hadn’t bothered. This book feels like it has been written by a different author.
At the end of book 5 Peggy and Able set off for their new life in their cottage with their new cafe in Hastings in the Sussex coast.
Rose’s first child is a girl named Molly in honour of Maureen who delivered her.
Book 6 opens with Peggy and Able somehow transported over 200 miles from Sussex to Devon and it would appear her daughter has performed the same magic as she is still only an hour away!
Rose’s daughter has been renamed and is now called Jenny.
It is not just these inaccuracies, but characters personalities have changed too.
All these changes are evident in the first few pages of the book, I dread to think what is to come.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
As Christmas 1949 comes along, Peggy & Able decide to close their cafe for 3 weeks over the Christmas period. During this time, Janet had been worrying about her husband might have gone off her after she had been through a couple of miscarriages and been miserable with everyone. He decides to take her and Maggie to Scotland for Christmas. Peggy upset a little as she was going to visit Janet, who decided to go en famille and return to Mulberry Lane instead. Then plans are afoot... Peggy is after a return, and her daughter Fay wants to be an ice skater. How will it come about? There is also more drama with Rose & Tom. After she catches the eye of a costermonger in the pre Christmas rush. Love the characters and looking forward to reading more about them.
I only read this because I read the other five in the series. Clarke has a tendency to repeat repeat repeat. There are tons of typos and grammatical and punctuation errors. It is quite annoying. As well, Able, being from the U.S., would not say things like shan't or refer to vacation as a holiday. Americans (I am one) don't speak like that. I felt like I had been reading this for five years. Very tedious and slogged on and on. I hope this series is complete now. I don't think I could rehash everything again and again. There's more history of who did what with whom than there is a new plot. If this had a proper editor, it could be cut by about 150 pages.
I've read all the previous books in this series and this one is my least favorite, most the book is rehashing the previous ones of the series, but I found it most annoying that the Christmas gifts, the exposing of what each person was gifted, and then again from the recipient point of view, I kept sliding through the pages, I can't stand it when authors put in that excessive amount of fillers ! I also strongly dislike Maggie and Fay, it seems strange that they are allowed to call the shots they way they do especially during those times when parents still had authority over their kids, and don't get me started on Janet....... Think I'm over this series and have to move on !
I really enjoy reading Rosie Clarke novels and this one was no exception. This is book 6 of the series and really enjoyable. The thing I liked most is that the characters follow through with the storyline and Rosie pops in “gentle reminders” of their past history so it is so easy to remember. I sometimes find it very frustrating when authors do a series of books and you cannot always recall their history. This story is based on the main character Peggy and how she is trying to do her best by looking out for her family and friends. It’s just a lovely story of family, friends and life’s ups and downs which we can all easily relate to. Thoroughly enjoyed and would highly recommend.
I was disappointed with the sloppy writing in this book, it was as though the editor has been on holiday or in a rush. Able put his hands over his ears to drown out the planes in this book- whereas anyone who has followed the series, or reads the rest of this book will know that Able only has 1 hand! Apart from the reunion described in the title, this book moves the story forward very little, and is more just a reminder of what has happened in previous books and the same few phrases repeated over & over in a few pages, before moving into another phrase & doing the say again. It’s a shame as this used to be a great series- but should have stopped a couple of books ago.
It was lovely to catch up with everyone from Mulberry Lane again. You could read this as a stand-alone but why would you want to when there is a fabulous series of all the neighbours, friends and family that live in Mulberry Lane. I have absolutely loved following the lives of Peggy and her family as they have dealt with a lot of difficult situations over the years. I hope there will be another book in the not too distant future fingers crossed. A well deserved 5 star read
I love this series and I love Christmas book so this was a perfect match. It was great to catch up with the characters and read about the development in their life. This is a perfect Christmas story and I loved the great characters, the vivid historical background and the well crafted plot that kept me hooked. Can't wait to read another story by Rosie Clarke. Highly recommended. Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I really love the characters in this series, and it is fun to revisit them over and over again. This time, it is post WWII and things are starting to settle down. Many of the strong female characters are proving over and over that setting your mine to something will end in triumph. Well written and what a trip to visit the cafe! Recommended.
I adore this series and each time I pick a new book up I’m just back in Mulberry Lane which I love. The characters are just so familiar and I can’t say I have a character I’m not keen on. The storyline as always took some twists and turns which I didn’t expect but as always I finished the book feeling so content and happy! I feel like I can’t go into too much with the review as I don’t want to give any spoilers away but I just love each book I picked up and love being back in Mulberry Lane.
This is the sixth book in the Mulberry Lane series by Rosie Clarke. I would recommend reading the other books in this series first. It was an absolute joy to be back with Peggy and Able and their family and friends. I just loved this book as much as I’ve loved the others in this series. A lovely easy read, perfect for cosying up with a cup of hot chocolate in a winters day.
The latest in the Mulberry Lane series and like the rest is a charming but realistic read based after WW2 that continues the story of Peggy, her family and friends. It has it's gritty moments which makes it stand out from other books in this genre. I do hope that this isn't the last book in the series.
Another good read from Rosie updating on all the happenings in Mulberry Lane. I do hope we are going to get another sequel to this chapter in their lives. We are left a bit high and dry here, what happens after this?? Please say there will be another book
Loved reading all these books a lovely group of people and so well written. It's almost like sitting down with old friends and having a cuppa and some Apple pie! This book is set a few years after the last book as Peggy and her friends return to Mulberry lane. The same fantastic characters are there and it does feel a cosy read.
