White Teeth is the story of three very different families who live close together in London in the 1980s and 1990s. The Bowdens are part-Jamaican; the Iqbals are from Bangladesh; and the Chalfens are white. The story looks at how people's pasts affect their lives now, and the lives and futures of their children.

Really good book about immigration, racism, family, day to day life. Written in a witty and funny way, the plot follows the life of three generations of jamaican and bangladeshi immigrants in the UK and nicely describes their struggles, wishes and and dreams and how ironically, everything turns out differently in the end.
While the writing style sometimes seems like a satire or comedy, the writer has an incredibly sensitive and authentic way of inviting the reader in the minds of the main characters, to share their different views, respectively.

bought book as required reading for uni... read before 'study' thoroughly enjoyed ... read a second time while 'studying the text' ... and enhanced my (positive) encounter with Zadie Smith

This book had some good storylines and a lot of boring ones. Too much repetition, too many characters and sub plots.
