For some, suffering less is as close to being happy as they’ll ever get.
Alessa Dean is a girl who’s used to suffering.
She was someone’s daughter, sister, niece. She was whole... once. Now, she’s got nothing left to lose and a choice to make that could change her life forever.
A choice given to her by three men who belong to the Wayward Kraken motorcycle club. Three men who give her a way out and a chance to start over.
Will she take that chance and possibly find the ability to not only love someone else once again, but to love herself?
And maybe, just maybe, suffer less...if only a little.
*This is a Dark Contemporary REVERSE HAREM Romance with moments that will make cringe, laugh, and sometimes cry.*
TRIGGER WARNING: This books contains themes some may find sensitive including: overdose, violence, and attempt of rape.
DNF @ 28% "This is a Dark Contemporary Reverse Harem" I must be missing the "Dark" portion of this book. Seems pretty sunshine and cotton candy so far compared to most of the MC books I read. Her childhood wasn't perfect, she has gone through some rough patches and some bad things happen to her but by no means is it Dark. The MC Members in this book are composed of a Pediatrician, Firefighter and a Psychiatrist. I prefer my men more 'you may not walk away with your life' in my MC Romances. The only reason they could even be looked at like they are scary is they ride, have a vest and one has tattoos. They are worried 24-7 about her feelings and are uber polite and don't even swear around her. It is very hard to find an MC RH Dark Romance and sadly this one just didn't hit the mark for me.
First of all I have to say, I missed the dark part of this book. Does it need a trigger warning ? Maybe. But would I classify it as dark ? No way.
After the first couple chapters it was pretty much a typical contemporary romance. The heroine took a new start, learned about the guys who, let's be clear are part of the MC as a hobby, and basically moved on with her life after the difficult years she had.
It was a nice story but it wasn't what I was expecting so I'm a bit disappointed. A good read once I got over the fact I didn't need to wait for something dark.
Alessa does not expect life to be good. Life is full of pain. She's lost everyone she ever cared about; she's lost a piece of herself. It's not that she has given up on life, not at all, she's just given up expecting happiness. It would be enough to just suffer less. Then she's offered a chance at a new life. An escape from the town that judges her, a new beginning with three unexpected men. A new home, a new family, a new beginning with the Wayward Kraken Motorcycle Club. Maybe a chance at love, maybe a chance to be whole again.
This book was unexpected. Alessa is a unique lead female and a much appreciated one. Her strength and resilience are admirable. Her life was so relatable with it's everyday struggles, crappy jobs, drug addictions, unexpected deaths, and the severe judgement of others. These are things many of us face. Then add in her personal characteristic as an amputee with it's own set of hardships. It was eye-opening. We take so much for granted. I loved how this was just a piece of Alessa. She never felt sorry for herself or allowed it to become an excuse. It was another aspect of her self like her lavender hair or her curves. I need to reiterate how much I appreciate that this wasn't treated like a disability that ruined her life but a challenge that had been faced and had been incorporated into her. Differences among us should never be a negative focus. We are who we are and we are all beautiful. This story delivers this message perfectly. Each of the men were multi-faceted. Their intelligence, their compassion, and their love for one another was plenty to like; add in their bikes and they all become super hot. Their relationship with Alessa was fast but worked. She gave them each something that they needed, something they may not have even realized was missing from their lives. In return they gave her family and made her realize that life wasn't all about suffering and surviving, there are moments of brilliant happiness as well. This is an emotional story well worth the read.
Suffer Less by K.B. Everly I received this book from the author for an honest review. Alessa…man her life is not awesome. Its full of everything bad and painful and you just feel for her and her struggles. When she can leave town with the Wayward Kraken MC she jumps. She doesn’t know what will happen, but she knows she will be living a new life from what she had in the town. This story is not for the weak at heart. Its dark and deals with subject matter that not everyone wants to read. K.B. doesn’t shy away from the difficulty’s life can hand someone. She tackles subject matter like drug addiction, feeling not whole and wanting more than they have. The MC Brothers show Alessa that she too can be whole even with missing parts of herself. They give her love and most of all a family. The story is not for the faint of heart but it is a great story to make your eyes leak and you cheering for the whole “love to conquer all” philosophy.
I absolutely loved Suffer Less, and think that this could be her best one to date. ( yeah I know hard to believe). The writing/story is one that will stay with you long after you have finished. There is so much to learn and feel from this story, I am sure it will wrap around your heart just as it did mine.
Alessa, what can I say about her but that she is one tough cookie. To go threw what she has in her life, and not to mention and amputee. Congrats KB on writing a heroine with this. Alessa has lost her parents, and is all alone. She meets three bikers one day while working. There her life changes forever. They take her in, show her what love is. What it is to find a family. But things are not fully sunshine yet. There is still danger around Alessa. Overall this is an exceptionally good read that is dark and beautiful. You will follow Alessa's journey to happiness, and know she fought like hell to get there. Well done KB, i cannot wait to see what you come up with next.
This was such a great read. This is not a rainbow and sunshine kind of read but it is intense and dark but no worries we get a HEA at the end. This story pulled me right in and I could not put it down. Loved Alessa. She was such a great character, strong and fierce but at times vulnerable...human. She had such a difficult life struggling to survive in the chaos her life is until three amazing men came along and helped her find friendship, family and happiness. This story as multiple POVs from Alessa and her men. I don't know about you but i Love POVs!! Another amazing read from KB Everly.
We can't get over the women-hating-other-women thing. Sex work is real work. You're a waitress. If you're that hateful, go waitress literally anywhere else.
Also, for the blurb to paint her as "so so broken", but it's just cause... she has a prosthetic leg? OhhhOHHhh, so we hate disabled people, too? *eye roll*
Alessa is the main character of this book, and she has a traumatic past. When she was a teenager she was in a car crash with her parents. Alessa was the only survivor, and the crash resulted in her losing part of one of her legs. It is a few years later, and she now works at this gross and grungy bar. She gets assaulted by a man one night but is saved by three rugged guys. All of them are instantly infatuated with her, and ask if she wants to ditch this small town to move across the country and live with them. She agrees, and they all go on a motorcycle road trip to their home.
The beginning of this book was so promising, but it ended up falling flat for me once they reached their destination. There was also just a lot going on in this book honestly. I also just did not really care for the romance. I mainly loved the disability rep in here, and how believable it was. I try;y felt the heroine's feelings about being an amputee. I loved that representation so much.
So unfortunately this was not my favorite :( I still have not been able to find a RH that I can give more than three stars.
TW: SA, car crash, death of a loved one, kidnapping, death, overdose
TROPES: caretaking scene, damaged heroine, kindle unlimited, mc romance, reverse harem. disability rep, PTSD, small town
Suffer less was definitely different from what I initially anticipated. I expected something dark, unexpected and to an extent rather triggering. What I discovered is that this story is tender, genuine and rather down to earth. The MMCs are not the regular bikers, they have their own careers and the club is kind of like a family, community unit. To be fair, I liked them and it was a good change from the usual growly men that tend to captivate my imagination. The guys were so lovely with the FMC from the very beginning, there was no resistance, self- doubt, push and pull- they were all very open and honest with her. To be fair, it was rather refreshing to have relationships develop without the additional drama. The main heroine has her own backstory and despite the harsh reality of her past, she has managed to remain vigilant and hopeful that life will change for the better. The plot offers a bit of a twist, which in a way added a bit of angst into the entire storyline, but what really stood out for me here was the very level- headed attitude of the male characters. Quite glad I picked up the book.
I was suffering from a major book slump and decided I needed to read a reverse harem to get me out of this slump, so a few nights ago I searched standalone RH on Amazon and Suffer Less was one of the many books that came up but this one stuck out to me the most because of that gorgeous cover. I mean, just look at it! I want that woman's gorgeous hair color. 😍😍😍 Anyway, I digress. 🙈
I read the blurb for Suffer Less and realized that Alessa's harem involved three men from a motorcycle club and I was immediately sold. Who doesn't want three hot MC men? 🤷♀️ I sure do. Kidding. Kind of. lol
I went into this story expecting it to be dark but I have to be honest, it's not really dark. Some messed up things do happen along the way but I wouldn't label them dark. I honestly think this book is mislabeled and is just a contemporary RH BUT it's still a great story and I did enjoy reading it and getting to know Alessa and the three men who came to her rescue when she needed them most.
Suffer Less is more of a sweet story about a woman who falls for three incredible bikers who all bring something different but good to her life. This story is not your typical RH. They never share her all at once (I wish! Sorry, not sorry) BUT it's still a great story nonetheless, so if you're in the market for a sweet romance with three hot but total softy bikers, read this book. It will make you laugh and smile and may even make you cry. I sure did. There was one moment that really called for tears. At least, I think so. 🙈
Overall, I give this story 3.5 stars and would recommend it to anyone who loves RH and sweet bikers who look intimidating on the outside but are total teddy bears on the inside.
Let's start with a warning in case you read reviews but not blurbs. This is a DARK CONTEMPORARY. There are several different things that could possibly trigger someone. There was no time at all that I was bothered by what I read but that's me. You know you and if you have a question about the triggers, hit me up and we can talk about them before you jump in. I'm happy to do it.
Now, on to the good stuff. Alessa Dean. This girl has had some shit happen to her in her short life. Most people don't deal with the amount of loss she has in their entire life span and she's had it all before 22. But she is strong. She is DAMN STRONG!! This girl puts on a brave face every day and does what needs to be done to get through life. Not all heros wear capes and not all heros have to do amazing things. Less is a hero for me b/c she survives. Even with all life has thrown at her she is still there, she is still kicking. I mean, come on, she's an amputee who rides a freaking motorcycle. You know she's bad ass!! I really feel like I could go on about Less all day so let's move on.
A small incident brings three members of the Wayward Kraken motorcycle club to Less's little town. They instantly take a liking to her, how could you not. When tragedy strikes Less's life once again, they offer her something she never thought she'd actually get. A way out. An escape from that small town and the evil in it. After not much thought, she takes them up on it.
Now we can't just go into this new life without having a couple hiccups can we? There is so much I really want to tell you about this book but I can't!! I don't want to ruin anything. I will say that there are some twists heading your way. Some major drama. Action and...I wouldn't really call it adventure. A definite trip though. There is heartache and pain. There is love and hope. There is strength. SO MUCH STRENGTH.
What it all boils down to is K.B. did an amazing job with this book. The passion in the words. The reality of the story. You can connect with this book on so many levels and you just fall into their world. Read it and find out for yourself.
Lately I have been reading a TON of paranormal romances, so a dark contemporary romance was a refreshing change for me. And yes, this is a DARK CONTEMARY ROMANCE incase you were unsure so if you missed the trigger warning there may be some aspects of Alessa and the guys story that might be tough to read. Don’t complain about it! You have been warned! So, I don’t want to give too much away but story is well worth the read. It has a real feeling to it like Alessa, Nash, Jude and Grey could be real people out in the world living this life. While their story is a dark contemporary romance standalone don’t worry there is a HEA at the end. Now let’s talk about Alessa! She has had a rough life and has gone through more in her life than any one person should. Now even though Less has been through some stuff she keeps her head up and is strong. When a small mishap on a ride with their MC, Wayward Kraken, the guys must stop in Alessa’s town where they meet and form an instant connection. After meeting the guys Alessa gets her chance to not only leave her town and be free but she also gets a chance at real love and family. Not to say everything is rainbows and unicorns (I mean it says it on the cover this is a DARK romance) so there are a few bumps in her road to happiness. I am a huge fan of K.B Everly and I will read anything she puts out, but this story is one of my top favorites from her!
It's not every day that I can say I relate to the struggles Less has gone through. No, I'm not an amputee and my heart goes out to her. But the struggle she endures with Shelly and her bad jobs and the people she dealt with. That. That I can relate to. Less simply doesnt see how strong she really is. Everyone of worth can see it, but to her, it's just a reality of survival. Three amazing guys give her the glimpse of what she deserves. And that is happiness. Granted it's never easy, but it's possible. Monte is my favorite. Hes mine. I claimed him. You feel all the emotions every character goes through whether it's Less, Jude, Nash, Grey or Monte. Sure there's other characters that are great too, but you have to read to enjoy their qualities or loathe them. All of it is well done and you can genuinely believe it really is something you could watch on the news as happening instead of reading it as fiction. The author put a lot of consideration and thought into the plot and characters. From their emotions to their flaws. There are a few aspects that make it hard to read at times, hence it being a dark contemp, but the story wouldnt be the same without those aspects. Even with the difficulty of those situations they're still well done and very realistic. I would recommend this book over and over and over again
4.5 Stars I really enjoyed this story. I read this book in one sitting and was satisfied throughout. Suffer less is the first book of K.B. Everly’s that I have read. I found the writing style easy to follow, the characters likeable and the storyline enjoyable. Alessa Dean is a young woman that is stuck in a rut. Stuck in a town she desperately wants to escape and working two jobs to survive. Having lost her parents and her brother, she only has her drug-addicted aunt as family and being an amputee, her life hasn’t been easy. When three handsome bikers arrive in town, they instantly click with Alessa and she has her saviours and her escape. I really liked Alessa. Her life wasn’t easy but she never complained. She got on with her life despite the ups and downs. I also liked that she was an amputee. She didn’t let it hold her back. I don’t think I have ever read a story that has a female amputee in it. It was a nice change. I really liked Nash, Gray and Jude. They were bikers but had good jobs. A fire fighter, physiologist and a physician. I liked them with Alessa. I liked seeing their feelings towards her grow. The storyline for this book is easy to follow and an action packed read.
I’ve read a lot of books in 2019, but this was hands down the best. It’s honestly a masterpiece. Alessa has been dealt a crap hand in life. Having been an amputee, losing all of her family and feeling she will always be alone and living in the hellhole town. Three sexy bikers roll through and get life is forever changed. She finds love, a family and real family. She is tormented by a member of another MC club and for reasons that will blow your mind. It is dark, riveting and more than I expected. The feels it gives and the empathy you feel. You will root for Alessa and the guys. This is the kind of story that sticks with you for years. If I could give it more stars I would.
I loved this book! It has a very 'real' tone to it, that it could happen, that these characters could exist. Less is a fantastic FMC, strong of mind, will & heart but with a vulnerability that warms you to her and made me root for her throughout. Her guys fitted to her personality well, each bringing something different which is what you want in a good RH. Even the minor characters were well developed. The book drew me in and I must admit I finished it in 2 sittings! (would've been in 1 but...kids). Highly recommend.
With everything that you find out Alessa has been through I'm so glad she found Jude, Grey and Nash. That is a lot to go through alone. This was an emotional reverse harem story, making you feel all the feels right alongside Alessa and her guys, as it's multiple POVs. Always a bonus in my eyes! I enjoyed that it was a standalone story. Sometimes you just need something short and sweet with a good ol' happily ever after. Great read.
One of my favorite books by KB Everly!! I love how raw this story was and deliciously dark and sexy. I am so happy KB went here and took things to a certain level. Loved this story, couldn't get enough of it. I can't pick a favorite guy, its stuck between 2 (not gonna tell you, you just have to read and figure it out haha). Definitely recommend this book! I want more already hahaha. If you are looking for an awesome MC book, look no further ❤️
I loved this book so much. It was filled with heartache, love, adventure, tears and finally a HEA. K.B sure knows how to write! Less, Grey, Nate and Jude are some of the best characters I've met in a while. I love how Less goes through her....transformation. See what I did there? It was a great book and I would love to visit this group again.
So this was a really good read. I cried quite abut imagining everything Less had gone through in life.
The characters were amazing, writing style was amazing, different relationships were awesome. I just wish there was more. I want to know what happens to them all now that they have a child!
This book is amazing and emotional and just all around phenomenal! I have read and reread this story so many times and each time I fall in love with Less more and more and her men! It’s a powerful story that evolves a lot of healing and growth
This is a well written story, but not what I was anticipating.
I thought this was going to be a dark and gritty romance with some dangerous bikers who do whatever it takes to protect their woman. It’s not.
Maybe it’s my own fault for assuming that a book containing a mc club automatically meant we’d be skating on the outskirts of the law. So imagine my surprise when the mc club was described as a ‘hobby’ and that our three heroes—Nash, Grey, and Jude—were a firefighter, psychologist, and pediatrician, respectively.
As for the ‘dark and gritty,’ well that’s relegated to the very beginning of the book and the very end. The heroine has lived an extremely hard life, but once she leaves town with the heroes’ the tone of the story becomes hopeful and upbeat. Sure, Less’s past is mentioned and interferes a few times with her new life, but it’s never used as a chain to hold her back from happiness. Instead, it is used as a point of reference to indicate how far she has come since then.
The ‘dark’ part of the story doesn’t come from Less’s men, their relationship, her own mind, or her new friends/family, but from an external conflict which doesn’t really cause any issues until the end of the book. Not to say that there aren’t any triggers—because there are many—but they’re absent from the majority of the book.
Since this book wasn’t the dark romance I was in the mood to read like I thought it was, I was disappointed despite the story actually being pretty good. The romantic relationship was a bit too instant and convenient for me, and there were some plot points that I would have preferred to be further explored, but this didn’t detract from the quality of the story.
If you know that this book is better suited to be labeled as a sweet contemporary romance with themes of recovery/redemption before you start reading, then you will probably really enjoy it.

I recently found K B Everly when I read her new release The Faceless, a pnr rh rom, and loved it so much I decided to check out her other works. I chose Suffer Less to see how I would like a non-pnr by her. I loved Suffer Less as much as I loved The Faceless. K B Everly has a way of writing that makes reading the story easy and the characters seem real.
Suffer Less is about a girl who has suffered greatly in her life and wishes to suffer less. After losing everything she decides to accept the offer of starting a new life in a new city with three gorgeous men who are currently riding their Harleys on a journey to different bars in the US. Nash, Grey, and Jude are each drawn to Alessa (Less for short) and she's drawn to each of them. There are sex scenes with these three hotties, but what I truly enjoyed and what has me already choosing my next K B Everly book is the exciting story that had me in tears and cheering Less on. Everly weaves details of the past into the story to build the character(s) and progress the storyline. Then Less finds herself in a dangerous situation that not only reveals what truly happened to another young lady years ago but threatens to have history repeat itself with Less as the current victim. Having suffered so much in her life will Less be able to survive? Will she get her HEA? For a twisting, thrilling tale read K. B. Everly's Suffer Less!
Alessa Dean's life is changed forever the night she meets the three bikers while working as a waitress, though it's more a matter of all the wrong things in life converging just as it's offering up an escape route. No part of her personal story is light, and yet she manages to pull herself through it beautifully. At no point in the book does it feel like any one character is less important than the other, something not always easy to do in harem stories. Everly gave each of them distinctly different styles and yet in ways that each of them complimented each other. You could see why they were friends, and also how they could all fall for the same woman without ever begrudging one another.
I did listen to this one on audiobook and really want to give the narrator her due respect. I've gotten really used to books having more than one narrator if the characters all take turns as the narrators. I was incredibly impressed with Schwairy as a narrator. I realized early on that while there was not an obvious change in her voice, there was a subtle on there as she did the male characters versus the female character. I thought maybe I was just imaging it, but I made my husband listen at a couple different spots and even he thought it was a different person, despite it being a subtle shift. I will definitely be looking for more things that she narrates.
This book goes hard with the wish fulfillment fantasy aspect of the RH genre, to the detriment of the guys. They don’t have defined voices, and come off as interchangeable, generic fantasy men with dream jobs and who love nothing more than to talk about how sweet, funny, strong and kind the heroine is, even when she’s throwing a tantrum and not leaving her room despite being a grown-ass woman purposefully missing work because throwing a fit is easier than dealing with life.
It was predictable to the point of being boring. It held no surprises, not even the at the end. Still, I didn’t hate it. Talking about it to someone, they described Suffer Less as a ‘palate cleanser’ and I find it fits, mainly because it made me hungry for a real story to sink my teeth into.
BTW I found the whole reason behind the title to be cringy and pretentious, more fitting for a Wattpad book written by a tween exploring her feelings. I also didn’t find this book to be ‘dark’. It has a couple of rough scenes but nothing deserving anything more than trigger warnings.
I was agreably surprised by this book and especially the two or three original points it contained. First, I like the idea of a FMC with a disability (she has a prosthetic leg). Alessa aka Less is a survivor. Life has never been kind with her and she suffered and fought in silence with an extraordinary bravery. What I appreciated as well is the concept of the "good" MC. The guys are nice guys, serious, and have good job. Nothing to do with the classic MC with criminal activities and men drinking and f*cking girls in front of each other. Here the MC is more a pretext for a group of friends to gather together and ride their bikes. But, when I finishes this book, I didn't really feel totally satisfied: something was "wrong" and I found it eventually. It's terrible to say but the guys are too nice! Yes, it's possible. They were too sweet, too much accepting, a kind of "doormat" guys... In fact the interaction I loved the most was in the epilogue, during the childbirth scene😂 A nice read, I recommend it but I would have appreciated guys a bit more sassy.
I had no information on this book before reading it. It popped up as a new release and on a whim I downloaded it. I am thrilled that I did! What a difference this book was to all the other dark and disturbing books I currently have been reading. This book touched on so many different topics mental health, drug addiction, physical disabilities, adoption, polyamory, but most of all LOVE. There were some dark undertones to this book from horrendous circumstances that happened to Alessa but 3 strangers she happens to meet by chance at the lowest point in her life. Possessive, protective, loyal, romantic, funny, caring and never giving up on her, they go the extra mile for her. To watch this emotionally & physically damaged young woman become a pillar of strength warmed my heart without having to read about being bullied or abused by the men whom love her! This story was unexpected but well worth the read, definitely pulled at my heart strings!
Suffer Less is a sweet contemporary RH. It’s also a standalone with a HEA ending.
Alessa ‘Less’ Dean has been dealt a shit hand in life and I guess that is why she has such a strong personality, she’s a survivor. A great thing about Less is that she doesn’t let her life harden her she is strong but with a heat of gold. After one too many hits she succumbs to the despair hidden deep within her not knowing what to do with her life, enter three guys that feel a kindred spirit within her and convince her to follow them back to their home town and see where things go. Less finds a love that trumps all the bad things that has happened in her life and also finds closure, closure she doesn’t know she needed🥰
