I barely pay attention to the Fantastic Four but even with my scant familiarity with the comic books (haven't even watched the movie) I had always known that Reed Richards is a bit of an asshole. #TIL He's an even bigger asshole than I originally thought. Tony Stark is an adorable angel in comparison.

And we also have Sue Storm as a white, blonde version of an overprotective Asian tiger mom? Not looking great for Franklin Richards. Run away, bub. Find a safe space where you can be who you were born to be, far away from a dad who stealthily altered you on a genetic level so that you don't present as a mutant, and from a mom who thinks that because you currently can't replenish your mutant powers you'll one day stop being a mutant altogether and you will get used to being human, i.e., "normal."

If Franklin's mutant genes were an allegory for being a trans teenager, this story gets worse. The dad wants to suppress the transness of his son, and actually achieved it with perfidy and without the son's consent or knowledge, while the mother forcefully prevents the son from having a support community of fellow trans under the seemingly well-meaning guise of "no segregation" when what she truly means is she wants her son to be cis, living among cis. Integration not segregation, but on her terms. What's telling is that neither parent gives a shit about what their son truly wants. Or even bothered to ask him.

3.75 stars. Even though I enjoyed this and it seems like the whole run will be good, I sometimes have a problem with versus books. Characters can get irrational or escalate things way too fast. As far as the art, some of it was good and some of it felt rushed or unfinished. But all in all the story seems interesting and I’m on board for the journey.

The first mini-series in the Dawn of X era...And it's a really damn good start. I love the Dodsons and Dexter Vine's art here too...perfect for a story about rebellious teans.

Super great. I didn't know how they would tie the two teams together, forgetting the link that already exists between them: Franklin Richards. I appreciated the references to the old X-Men vs Fantastic Four miniseries, with Kitty and Franklin's bond. Kitty and Xavier both had especially good voices here. I was less enamored with Reed and Sue, as their role is simply "overprotective parent" thus pitting them as practically the villains in this issue. But oh well. The art was, of course, beautiful and amazing. Good stuff, can't wait for more.

This is gonna be fun!
Gorgeous artwork, Kate has so much personality in her face.
I thought Valeria had powers? But I know next to nothing about F4 so I guess I was wrong.
I'm undecided on how I feel about this plot. "Krakoa is for all mutants" ok cool recruitment is different though. Why do they want Franklin? Because he's an Omega level mutant? Because that's creepy. The professor didn't seem to mind Beak and Angel living in Nebraska, didn't go after them personally. Then everyone acts like jackasses, yes including Kate, you can't just take a teenager to another country without his parents knowing.
Marvel did a poll last week asking how Franklin should choose. I picked his parents, I've raised 3 teenagers now & they need parents. Don't you think Charles has screwed up enough teenagers?

Now this was a tale. Franklin Richards has been aged up…again 😂 and they are bringing back the fact that he’s a mutant! Love this. Surprised that Valeria isn’t a mutant herself. How she was conceived and her circumstances of her birth were very similar to Franklin. She better at least blend that magic and science like her Uncle Doom.
