Lauren:
Graham is my brother's best friend. He’s always been my protector and my confident because he accepts me the way I am—and not many do. I can’t imagine not having him in my life.
Our weekend together was supposed to be a celebration. I graduated from college, Graham got engaged and signed with a pro football team, and my brother landed his dream job. It should have been the best time of our lives.
Except that the weekend started with me walking in on Graham's fiancée going down on my brother.
I complicated the situation by having sex with Graham after that, but I wanted to comfort him and, damn, when I saw desire in his eyes—for me—I couldn’t say no. I’ve wanted him for so long.
Now he doesn’t want to see me. He says he has a darker side he needs to protect me from.
Where do we go from here? Do I try to pretend to be his friend again or push him to open up to me and possibly lose him forever?

We never should have crossed the line of going from friends to lovers.
There's too much Lauren doesn't know about me, and I care enough about her that I don't want her to share my pain and the darkness that never sees daylight inside me.
I want her, but she's a woman I can never have. She's too smart, too sweet, and way too good for a guy like me.
Unfortunately, pushing her away becomes much more difficult than I'd planned...

Well Played was a friends to lovers stand-alone by JS Scott and Ruth Cardello.
Lauren was the little sister to Graham’s best friend, Jack. They too were also besties with Graham having always taken the protective role with Lauren. Graham was Lauren’s hero and she secretly crushed on him. The book opened when Lauren walked in on her brother and Graham’s fiancé in a more than compromising position.
Scott and Cordello then took us through Graham and Lauren’s dynamics as the main storyline. Lauren was a genius - as in literally, so they included her thought processes and how that affected her daily life. Graham had a rough life and he overcame it through hard work, determination and a focused goal of being successful in the NFL. The storyline was well written, detailed and included a lot of inner dialogue with a serious vibe to it while tackling some mental health issues.
In the end, it was enjoyable and a fairly quick read. Although currently billed as a stand-alone, we’ll get Tyler’s story in Well Received.

Lauren caught her brother Jack red-handed with his bestfriend’s fiance on his bed. Not a sight she’d ever wanted to see nor imagine, specially from her brother. She was torn if she’d tell Graham about or let them discover the truth. But Lauren’s conscience was guilt-tripping her. Graham was also her friend… more than a friend… he was the man she’d been crushing on forever. But Graham didn’t look at her that way. Star football player Graham had already planned his life – professional football career, marriage and a happy home. Lauren was his bestfriend’s sister, extremely smart and a smashing beauty, but he kept his distance. When her brother stole his fiance from him, he was devastated and could never trust again.
I had such a marvelous time reading this. I liked that this wasn’t an insta-love kind of relationship although I didn’t approve of how Graham immediately slept with Lauren after the whole betraying fiasco. Felt like it was a revenge sex and I couldn’t help but feel bad for the girl, even if she was full on board with the idea. Graham’s anger issues and ugly past really did a number on him, and I understood how this prevented him from believing in true love. How these two struggling lovers faced their personal demons was what made this story all the more engaging to read.
This story is great not only for sports fans but also to those who like best friends turned to lovers trope.
Ruth Cardello and JS Scott sure know how to make women swoon. Well Played was a well written book and I commend these talented women for a job well done. I couldn’t tear my eyes away from the book once I started reading it!

I love when two well-known authors get together and write a book. I wasn’t disappointed with J.S. Scott and Ruth Cardello writing as both are gifted writers.
Well Played has the making of a movie, a friend who been betrayed by his best friend and fiancé, the sister of the best friend who secretly loves the one betrayed.
Graham an upcoming football star gets the surprise of his life when he goes to visit his best friend. Hurt and vulnerable he turns to his peanut (Lauren) for comfort.
As Graham works through his problems, Lauren has her own insecurities to work through as she is a genius with some social handicaps. As things heat up, Graham runs the other way leaving Lauren to pick up the pieces.
Lauren decides to go a journey of self discovery and is determined live her life. Can she ever forgive Graham for abandoning her?
I enjoyed seeing Lauren grow and Graham come to terms with his own problems. This is a wonderful read full of passion, tears, courage, forgiveness and love and I highly recommend this book.

Well done! Ms. Scott & Ms. Cardello have written a truly entertaining & steamy book. Graham & Lauren each have their own unique challenges in life. Although Graham has had more than his fair share. I loved the flow of their developing relationship, but I did think the focus on parts of Graham's past was a bit overdone. Overall, I’ve always enjoyed the friends to lovers type stories.
I’ve always liked knowing the “hows” and “whys”, but felt the reasoning behind Hope and Jack’s betrayal was lacking. But that is probably just me, but I was disappointed there wasn’t really any visible start of a resolution between Graham and Jack, they were supposed to have been best friends after all.

Authors J.S. Scott and Ruth Cardello have delivered a perfect TOUCHDOWN!!
I read this book in one sitting. I am a lover of sport romances and friends to lovers too and this beauty just offered me all that and more.
After finding Graham's fiance in a very (what shall we call it) compromising position with her brother, Lauren is stricken with the burden to be the one who will possibly destroy Graham's heart by revealing the truth. She loves Graham, she has, ever since she was a kid, he has been as much as an important part of her life growing up like a brother, only those sibling feelings were becoming something more complicated lately and she didn't see Graham like a brother, she ached for his touch and the realisation of what her brother had done hit her like a freight train, could she possibly have a chance to get closer to Graham?
Graham has had to overcome many obstacles to be the man he is today. His success came at a hefty price and he has worked damn hard to fulfil his dream of becoming a pro football player. There are two people who have always been at his side and supported him from early age, Lauren and her brother. They have been best friends forever and he sees them as the family he never had. Now with his life in order and a future with his fiance things are looking up, however as we all know what they say about the best laid plans, nothing prepares Graham to find out of the betrayal of the two people who supposed to love him the most, the confession from Lauren lips about what went down between her brother and his girlfriend leaves him cold. The feeling however, is not a prolonged one, and he suddenly realises the relationship wasn't based on love, he is almost relieved. Never in a million years he was prepared to all of a sudden feel something so powerful for Lauren, is like a blindfold was lifted from his eyes and he was seeing her from the first time.
When the two of them act on their emotions, this brings a world of complications and doubts. One thing is for sure though, they are both up to an unchartered territory and neither imagine what life suddenly has thrown at them. Graham thinks the game of football is a challenging one, he never expects to find himself fighting for something bigger. Lauren finds herself asking if Graham could be an eligible receiver of her love and devotion. Only one way to find out..
All I can say is this story was wonderful. Well written and with plenty of unbridled passion, of course its is not surprise coming from these two magnificent writers.
Well Played is certainly a must read of 2018 and I can't wait to read the next book by them.

Fabulous book.. I loved the combining of the two authors, really you could not tell, they have gelled perfectly.
The relationship between Lauren and Graeme was believable, I enjoyed the way the story gave us insight into their past relationship, it filled it out and gave us a greater understanding of both.
Transitioning from child hood hero worship and being like a brother, through teen years, to adult and all the mixed feelings that can evoke was enjoyable.
Lauren's quirky ways, being a geek, brilliant and her issues was well written.
Having someone at your back that has their own trials like Graeme was very believable.
I would definitely recommend this story, it has all the emotive things you need for a great read. Heart break, longing, romance, achievement, lust, connections, love..
Well done to both authors.

This will be short. Not because I didn't like the story. Not because there was anything particularly annoying about either character.
It was just average. Nerd girl falls for life long best friend of her brother. Things get weird then things get better. Grovel grovel and then HEA.
A little too much inner dialogue. Repetitive thinking patterns on both sides. Not lots of action.
An average romance story. Sorry but that's all I got from this one.

Made it to chapter 3.....had a really hard time getting into this book. The characters felt very one dimensional.

Well Played is written by J.S. Scott and Ruth Cardello, and I must say that they make a terrific team. This book is about a brother, sister, and their best friend, but bad decisions on the part of Jack, the brother has caused a rift between the friends, and put Lauren,the sister in a bad position. The friend, Graham, has not always had an easy life, and just when he thinks things are going his way, BAM, he hits a bump in the road. All of his well thought out plans are destroyed along with his trust in one of his best friends in the world. Lauren and Graham decide to not let what happened with Jack destroy their friendship, after all Lauren doesn't have a lot of friends and Graham has always "celebrated her best and somehow understood her worst". Once Graham sees Lauren as a woman instead of the little girl from his childhood, it is impossible to unsee her, and that is when things get complicated.
I hope to read more from these two authors as a team, I would like to know what happens with Tyler and even though Jack was a bit of a pain in this book, I would like to read more about him.
I highly recommend this book to all romance lovers, there is passion, angst, romance, love, forgiveness, friends and family. And speaking of family, you are going to love Lauren and Jack's dad!!
I hope to read more from these two authors as a team, I would like to know what happens with Tyler and even though Jack was a bit of a pain in this book, I would like to read more about him.

This was an emotional book about 3 friends in which 2 are siblings. A friend name Graham who has went through obstacles from childhood to adult. A best friend Jack who do the heard of to disappoint his friend and sister. A sister Lauren who was gifted and knowledgeable. Graham and Lauren went from friends to lovers with hurt that eventually turn into being trusted and stronger.

Graham grew up in foster homes under difficult circumstances because of this he’s determined to have a better life as a professional football player, but along the way he’s stepped on some people which he’s not proud of. Graham is also keeping a very personal and painful secret from Lauren.
Lauren is brilliant but she’s very insecure about herself. She’s see’s herself as not very attractive and needing to loose weight. Graham is her best friend and he also has her heart, but has no idea. The weekend they are supposed to be celebrating starts something between the two of them that’s always been there but Graham refused to let himself love Lauren because of his personal secret he’s kept from her.
Lauren and Graham start a journey together and learn a lot about themselves and each other. I loved this book it’s very heartwarming and deals with a subject that affects many people.
When reading a collaboration between authors you can sometimes tell the difference between the two while reading, but Well Played is so well done it flows together seamlessly. Don’t miss out on this book.

Great idea for story but telling fell short
“Genius and jock”, great idea for a story with much potential for romance and humor. Add an unlikely friendship for these two since childhood adds a sweet dimension with further potential. Too bad, in my opinion the authors fell short. I thought Lauren’s character was terrific, a genius who was empathetic, sweet, beautiful in her way, and who looked for the good in others and was ready to use her brain power to help. Graham her friend and love interest was another story, a vulgar, self absorbed, athlete/pro football player who seemed to be totally controlled by the organ between his legs. No matter how much the author ‘s tried to make this character more palatable by throwing the sympathy card with his bipolar disorder, it didn’t work for me and I think he was right about one thing , “Lauren was too good for him.” I thought some sections of the book were mechanical and read like a third grade reader. Unfortunately about midway through this book it became the train wreck that you had to see how it ended. You could predict the end but since I didn’t buy the relationship I could not wait for it to end, which is not the kind of book I read to escape.

When is a mistake not a mistake? When it's meant to be? Well Played is the ultimate double team. J.S. Scott brings the heated complications of romance and Ruth Cardello brings the humor and heart. Betrayal sets the stage for an emotional roller coaster ride. Lauren is caught up in the storm of love, secrets and loss. Graham is her heart's desire, but the event that brings them together is rapidly tearing their friendship apart. What once was precious is on the verge of becoming a battlefield. Will these soul mates survive the war? No one does love like J.S. Scott and Ruth Cardello. Separately, they make their mark, together they are a force to be reckoned with. Grab hold of your heart because, this love story is going to be a bumpy ride.

It’s different when u read this, not her usual style, a little bit long n repeated, maybe they r co-writer. The lines not that bad but just don’t get into the points when it needs, not clearly cut when it’s necessary.
The character ty is interesting. The childhood friendship, support each other even they were young.

Well Played is a sports Romance with a difference, we have Graham coming to meet his two best friends at Aspen for skiing. Also he is looking forward to introducing his fiancee to his only friends.

Sometimes, I just need a really good "falling for your brother's best friend" romance and this did not disappoint.
I honestly loved just about everything. Lauren is painfully intelligent and it has always made her a bit awkward and a bit of an outsider. Graham is an outsider of his own making. He had a rough upbringing and a closely guarded secret that's always made him choose his inner circle carefully. Lauren and her brother have always been a part of this circle until it's discovered that her brother slept with Graham's fiancee.
Under the guise of distress on Graham's part and comforting on Lauren's they sleep together once and Graham ghosts her after stating that she needs better. Lauren has always been in love and Graham is much slower to get with the program. Not only does it take him longer, but he's secretly been dealing with something his whole life that he's extremely hesitant to share.
So the story gets a touch frustrating at times, but it reads as really sweet and you really find yourself rooting for them and will be satisfied when you get to the HEA.

I had a hard time getting into this novel. Don't get my wrong the characters are great, it was just kind of lack luster after the first chapter. The first part intrigues the reader but after that it fell flat...
My favorite part is how Graham always calls Lauren peanut. It's super cute.
Graham is probably my least favorite character. I don't feel like you could count on him, especially after the first hump and run. He has some serious issues so I guess he sort of gets a mild free pass but still.

5 Crazy Ass Stars!!!
Call me surprised! I just wasn't expecting this story at all. I have read Scott and Cardello's works before so I was expecting a storyline along those lines but, damn, what these two created together was brilliant. I love it!
This book fed a few of my guilty pleasures...best friend betrayal, best friend's little sister, friends to lovers, and topped all off with a sports theme. Yup, I am one HAF bookwhore!
This was shocking, angsty, emotional, sexy, and even had little doses of humor splashed in that broke up that serious tone. I am just so pleasantly surprised who well the Scott/Cardello duo work together. The story flowed between POVs and never felt choppy. This is a collaboration done right. This bookwhore just added a new duo to my faves tostalk, I mean, keep an eye on.

Although this story started out with a bang, it seem to fizzle out 3/4 in. Graham and Lauren had great chemistry but most of the conflicts in the story were under developed. Jack and Hope absolutely did not pay for the pain they inflicted on Graham. Graham is such a good guy and it is horrible that his mother, his aunt or any of the foster families he bounced around from, never loved him the way that he deserved. Can Lauren be the healing Graham so desperately needs? (Nook Edition)

Well for a blind date with a book this one hit the spot 🥰 the characters really draw you in and the story was simple and easy to follow, the ups and down and pace was perfect. There was even an opening for another possible book which I would also devour if these two fabulous authors decided to indulge us 😉

Oh my God what a book, well it had to be perfect when two of my favorite authors got together and produced suck a fantastic book! Well developed family/friendships dynamic and perfect love story! Fascinating characters that really made you feel every passion and pain on it!

Lauren has loved graham in one way or another her whole life but now she knew she was truly in love with him. But she was more than smart enough to know she couldn’t force him to see her the way she saw him.
Graham and Lauren are so adorable both navigating their own insecurities and learning how to trust each other and overcome past mistakes. When they finally learn to trust each other fully they both end up with exactly what they need.

Graham, Jack and Lauren have been friends ever since they were kids. Graham is more like a member of the family than a friend. Jack does something that breaks that friendship. Lauren is crushed because she has always loved Graham, even though he doesn't look that way at her. A night of drinking between Graham and Lauren change that forever. This book is so good. I read it all in one day I couldn't put it down. You will love the way both authors have written this book. It is a must read.

Well done to both authors. I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I loved getting to know Graham and Lauren, they were both great in their own ways. This was a friends to lovers romance with it's own unique twist. Each struggles with their own personal demons, but together they learned to deal with them. I look forward to reading more from both authors.

This was one deep storyline. Friends to Lovers sure but the depth of the fight to get there is what made this story enjoyable. Graham secrets and Lauren fight to prove her devotion and get answers was just phenomenal. I don't know which mind thought it but watching Graham accept his worth regardless of a diagnosis was genius. I wanted another ending but will settle for what I received.

WELL PLAYED is a soul-deep best friend’s little sister tale by that left me begging for a replay! I am a huge fan of J.S. Scott’s Billionaire romances, and wasn’t sure what to expect with this sports-themed collaboration, but I must say her pairing with Ruth Cordello was pure gold!
This emotionally-charged tale delivers on all the juicy drama, feels and swoon that I have come to expect from Ms. Scott’s books but it also provides a satisfyingly angsty, steamy read as well! WELL PLAYED is chock full of love and lust, pent up longing, heartache, betrayal, smoldering passion, and searing romantic discord! I was truly swept up in a rollercoaster ride of emotions as these two lifelong friends navigated their way through the highs and lows of falling in love!
All these years Graham has been Lauren’s “honorary brother from another mother,” her protector, her confidant. There has always been a genuine affection and easy rapport between them— I just MELTED INTO A PUDDLE whenever he would clean his little peanut’s glasses with his shirt!— but after their botched drunken encounter it became clear there is a real spark between these two that goes way beyond platonic friendship.
Both these characters were vibrantly drawn, with rich backstories and a wonderful shared history that's chronicled beautifully via poignant flashbacks that are woven seamlessly into the present story.
Pro ball player Graham was PURE BROODY ALPHA MALE PERFECTION! Growing up in foster care, he has had a tough life, has mega trust issues, and is prone to violent outbursts, but tries to keep his inner demons at bay. He knows he isn't anybody’s hero, except as far as his “little Peanut” is concerned, the man she’d worshipped since she was 4 years old practically walks on water! And the best part? He worships her right back!!!!
And as far as heroines go, Lauren was a TRUE JOY! I found her endearingly quirky, sweet and so relatable! Her “logical” approach to life was so unique and charming and you can’t help but cheer for this socially awkward brainiac, who has always felt out of Graham’s league, to land the hunky football star of her dreams!
Together these MC’s were MAGIC! Their soul-deep connection resonated deeply, there was palpable push pull throughout and their passion interludes were blazing hot! But brace yourself because there are definite major interceptions along the way. Graham’s best friend's betrayal cut real deep, rousing deep-seated anger issues, reopening old wounds, and resurrecting his fear that he is incapable of giving or receiving love. But Lauren has always been his anchor in his storm of chaos and vows to stick by him, through good times and bad, even when he tries to push her away!
Ultimately, these two have a ton of rooting value because they truly bring out the best in each other! I relished how Lauren always sees the good in Graham, and loves him unconditionally. Even when he can’t recognize his own self worth. And, in turn, he helps her see herself not as a freaky misfit but as a uniquely beautiful woman—HIS woman— who should step out of her comfort zone and live life to the fullest!
