Human beings are the greatest natural resource on the planet. If it sometimes doesn’t seem that way, it’s because our inherent wealth is hidden under layers of confusion. Much of what we mistake for reality is really a jumble of the tendencies, attitudes, and preconceptions that are part of our individual human baggage. Although we may understand this, we usually believe our thoughts accurately reflect reality. This hidden assumption is a major cause of confusion, which gives rise to conflicts—in our society, in the larger world, and at times within ourselves. But it is possible to untangle confusion and deal with conflict productively. Meeting Your Mind explains how human beings can direct their attention, detect their own patterns, and deliver benefit to the world.
I liked it. Meeting the Mind opened MY mind to plain sense examples of fostering kindness and dealing with conflict using mindfulness practice as the starting point for living humanely and successfully. Carol Hyman weaves key Buddhist concepts such as no-self, awareness, basic goodness and living in the present moment into this engaging manual for enabling courage and understanding of self and others in real life. I especially enjoyed the exercises on working with fear and recognizing our own "storylines".
Great book on mindfulness and meditation. I have been able to explore my meditation practice and inner space more deeply since reading this book and participating in Carol’s classes. She is a wonderful resource and has incredible wisdom. I felt like I could underline each sentence of the book because it is so thoughtfully written.
