God of the Long View: Trusting a Timeless God in a Hurried World

Rate this book
WHAT IF GOD ISN'T IN A HURRY?
WHAT IF THE WAITING IS PART OF HIS PLAN?
WHAT IF DELAY DOESN'T MEAN DENIAL? Humanity tends to gravitate toward the quick solution. If it can be cooked faster, delivered faster, or fixed faster, we're all in. But this is just one of the infinite ways that God is different from us. God has no problem taking His time. He loves to work in ways that don't match our manic schedule. He isn't always the God of the immediate, but His timing is always perfect. The stories in God of the Long View reveal a Creator who does marvelous, miraculous, instantaneous things! But they also reveal a God who is just as content to work over decades, lifetimes, even centuries to heal, save, and build His Church. This book explores the God who is active even when we can't see Him designing blueprints that span generations in order to accomplish His will. God of the Long View will inspire believers and skeptics alike. The Creator is orchestrating His epic narrative! We may not fully see it today, but rest assured, His agenda is worth waiting for.

How good IS this timely word!
Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2022
Solomon spoke of the joy that fills a man’s heart when he is able to give an “apt reply” and then says, “and how good is a timely word!” I hope that David Wiggington finds joy and encouragement in knowing that this gem, “God of the Long View” was both an apt and timely word for me right now. I have had this book on my desk for more than a year but once I started reading it, I did not want to put it down. It encouraged my soul and helped me square my shoulders back again and know that I was where God wanted me to be. The last two years have been hard for many of us but the God of a long view was never surprised and never shaken. This book reminds us of that and calls us back to faithfulness to a call and trust in a faithful God. As a pastor for almost four decades this book says so well what I have for so long felt but could not articulate and calls the people of God to a faith that is solid not sensational and a hope that is both patient and eternal. I have read hundreds of books but this is my first review. I have ordered copies for my church and I look forward to seeing the hearts of those I pastor be encouraged by David’s timely word!

What a spectacular reminder to trust the God who has eternal perspective! I believe the author wrote this book especially for me. Of all the books I have read this year, this one was my favorite, because it offers the view that we focus so much on keeping score and winning, but God cares about us finishing—and finishing well! The world (cultural norm) wins by killing but Jesus (followers) win by dying. We will most likely not see all the seeds that we plant on earth, and that’s ok, because the God of the longview has a distinct plan to restore His Kingdom, and He uses us in that long process!

Reading this from West Africa was inspiring and encouraging. Remembering that God sees things with a long view, so different from our own close up view. Definitely worth spending some time digging into this book!

MUST READ!

Many of us in Christianity get stuck chasing the instantaneous move of God, but while God does move instantaneously, throughout Scripture we see the God of the Long View. A God who moves over days, or weeks, or years, or even centuries. Are you faithful to plant and wait?

An excellent, biblical, engaging read! A lot of the church today only wants to focus on what God is doing in the here and now, right in front of our eyes. While God is certainly moving in that way, people often neglect to consider that many of God’s good plans take much more time to carry out than we usually expect or want. God of the Long View brings a great balance and a new perspective, and will leave you inspired and in awe of such a powerful, good God.
